Deploying CR or BO to Web - NOT Using J2EE components or Web Services

I'm looking for a way to publish canned reports to the web from Business Objects/Crystal Reports, WITHOUT requiring access to any underlying server directories (which looks like it leaves web services out of the running).  Reports must be stored/accessed through the Business Objects repository (which eliminates J2EE components).
Reports will need to be available in both PDF and another format (either HTML or RTF is okay).  Reports must be 1)able to be visible through a web browser and,  2)linked to directly from an application residing on another application server (read: should not display as part of a Business Objects or Crystal Reports interface).
The report designer must be able to make/save changes on the BO server within BO (or Crystal Reports) and have the changes display in the above linked-to report/page.
I've looked through the documentation and the forums, and I'm not finding anything that does this - could someone point me in the right direction?
Our environment is Business Objects Enterprise Release 2 XI, with either Crystal Reports XI or Business Reports XI on the desktop and/or server (we have report designers using one, the other, or both).  These are new products for us.  As stated above, Developers do not have access to any underlying server directories so will need to be able to do this only using the BO/CR interface(s). (We will be linking to the page(s) from a java application on another application server).
Can this be done?  If so, what search term(s) should I be using to find documentation?  (A direct link is helpful, too
We are a java shop.
Thanks for any assistance!

No, but I have investigated it in more detail. I am fairly certain that it is a bug in wsdeploy, the evidence for which is the number of other bugs for this tool noted in the forum. Since wsdeploy takes as input the portable war file, I tried manually editing this file to remove the culprit...to no avail. My next attempt is to try manually ADDING a bogus file to the war file, and see if that does anything. If that doesn't work, I may try going back to xrpcc and see if that has any sucess. I suppose I could always buy Visual Studio.NET (<gr>).

  • Deployment is failing on creating web service proxy in portlet.

    Hi All,
    I am using a JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0.
    1) I have created a application (portlet producer application), which contains few jsf pages (not jspx).
    2) I have added a web service proxy ( using New>Business tier>Web services>web service proxy, provided a wsdl) for accesing a service which is exposed on different server.
    The above combination works perfectly fine.
    But When I convert the JSF pages to portlet (right click on JSF page and select create portlet entry option), and tried to run it throws following error.
    Note: soainvgpkg is the package which is generated when I create a web service proxy.
    It is generated under application resources.

  • Deployment of AM as a web service on the OC4j server raises issues

    Hi,
    I need to create an application with BC4J components. The AM needs to be exposed as a Web Service. Then, some of the VO s and some custom methods would be exposed as Service Methods.
    I have followed these steps:
    1. Created the required application.
    The AM has a VO(say, VO1) and a custom method, say, getSum.
    The signature of getSum is:
    public int getSum(int a, int b)
    2. I have included getSum method and the GetByKey method of VO1 in the Service Interfaces editor.
    3. Created a Business Components Service Interface deployment profile in the project where the service interface is defined .
    4. At the Application level, created a EAR Deployment profile whose "Application Assembly" section includes the "Common" and "MiddleTier" Jars from the Business Components service interface deployment profile above .
    5. Deployed the application using the application-level EAR Deployment profile.
    Deployment completes successfully.
    When I try to access the Service methods, the Invocation comes up fine.
    Two issues crop up after that:
    a) If I invoke getSum, by passing in 2 valid integer values, the following error comes up:
    <env:Fault>
    <faultcode
    xmlns="">env:Server</faultcode>
    <faultstring
    xmlns="">oracle.j2ee.ws.common.databinding.common.spi.DatabindingException: java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: int.<init>(java.lang.String)</faultstring>
    <faultactor
    xmlns=""/>
    </env:Fault>
    b) If I invoke the GetVO1() method, by passing in the valid key values, it throws the following error:
    <ns1:serviceErrorMessage>
    <ns1:code>30003</ns1:code>
    <ns1:message>JBO-30003: The application pool (oracle.apps.model.am.DOOAppModuleService) failed to checkout an application module due to the following exception:</ns1:message>
    <ns1:severity>SEVERITY_ERROR</ns1:severity>
    <ns1:exceptionClassName>oracle.jbo.common.ampool.ApplicationPoolException</ns1:exceptionClassName>
    </ns1:serviceErrorMessage>
    I am using Jdev Drop4. I have already gone through the release notes and set the "Allow Deployed Module access to OC4J internal classes" checkbox to checked, but the issue doesn't get resolved.
    Anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks in advance!

  • Deploying a VB dll using some web service and accessing it through java

    I'm new to Web Services Based Programming. I would like to know whether this is possible and if so has anyone tried it. I want to create a vb dll that contains the remote methods that the client will access from a java program. After going thru a lot of articles, I'm still unsure on how to do this. I found one method was to Create a VB program/dll, deploy it in a web service and create the java program that accesses by another web service.
    I'm doing this as part of my lab syllabus. The thing is My lab exercises do not state anything about the technologies that I can use to do this.
    This is all that is stated there:-
    Creation Of DLL Using VB And Deploy it in Java
    I just cant get any ideas other than deploying both the parts as web services. If anyone has Better ideas for this, I would really appreciate it.
    I dont know anything about CORBA for languages other than Java and I'm already using the servlets and EJB's in my normal life. I'm also learning the ORB based programming in java. Therefore your help will probably help me learn something new then what I know.

    Sorry I wasn't too specific in my last question.
    This is my java class calling the native method print
    //HeyWorld.java
    class HeyWorld {
    private native void print();
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    new HeyWorld().print();
    static {
    System.loadLibrary("HeyWorld");
    In this case, my C method for calling a C++ method: HelloWorld.cpp
    #include "jni.h"
    #include "stdio.h"
    #include "stdafx.h"
    #Include "HeyWorld.h" //this is where i get my function prototype
    #include "Test.h" //this is the C++ header where the print method and the Test class is
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL
    Java_HeyWorld_print(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
    CTest a; //CTest is the print class I created
    a.print();
    //This is the header for Test.h
    class CTest: public CWinApp
    public:
         CTest(); //constructor
         void print(); //our method
    //And this is the implementation of the class Test.cpp
    void CTest::print()
         printf("Hey World!\n");
         return ;
    I could compile the Test.cpp, HeyWorld.cpp successfully. However when I tried to compile HeyWorld.cpp using
    cl -I<path of jdk include> -I<path of jdk include win32> -LD HeyWorld.cpp -FeHeyWorld.dll,
    the VC++ 6.0 compiler gave me this error:
    HeyWorld.obj:error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public:_thiscall CTest::CTest(void)"
    HeyWorld.obj:error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public:_thiscall CTest::print(void)"
    Thanks for the help.

  • Deployment Error due Web Service

    Hi,
    I try to create a WebService based on the JEE 5 Server. If I create a very simple WebService everything works quite well. But as soon as I try to create a more complex web service I receive a deployment error. The web service method contains a parameter that represents a data object. This DO contains two lists, that are accessible using getters and setters, the DO contains a standard constructor as well.
    The deployment exeception I receive is:

    Can anyone help me? The deployment trace looks like there is a problem with the serialization framework. But my DO is totally Serializable, meaning all  referencing interfaces and classes implement Serializable.
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Martin,
    It's good that you have come to the cause of the problem by yourself. Yes, the Sun serialization framework does not support interfaces as web method parameters. This is "hidden" in the exception
    com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 1 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions
    I agree that it's not quite obvious from the exceptions in the Deploy View Console, however if you have had a look into the server log files (in <Install_Dir>/JP1/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/log) you would probably have found more detailed information about the root cause.
    Regarding the second issue, this is exactly how the WebService specifications define the case. You are probably right to some extent in your assumption about the WebMethod annotation, but the specs seem to treat it in a bit different way. See Web Services. The bottom line is that all public methods except those annotated with @WebMethod(exclude=true) will be exposed as web service operations.
    Hope that clarifies a bit!

  • Web Service do not work after save in Designer ES2 SP1

    Dear all,
    I am trying to migrate 8.2.1 process to ES2.
    Although it have some bugs, but the process are working fine when using ES2 without any SP.
    One day we installed SP1 for ES2 and hopeing for some bugs we found fixed, but find none of them fixed... oh well, so we continue the migration.
    And the problem happen when we try to modify the form for some testing, we find that even we *did not* modify anything in the form, if we pressed the save button and deploy the form, all the web service related code in the form will stop working.
    Anyone have any idea about this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Bill

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for the suggestion.
    Already tried to update the dataconnection by right click at data view, and choice "Refresh Data View", but that doesn't help, would like to know are there any others way to do so?
    I already open a case with the support, but it seem that the engineer in APAC region have a very slow response time...
    Just wonder if I can send the case to others support center with better response time.
    I tried to compare the form before and after save and find that some information may missing in the post-SP1 form.
    In the pre-SP1 from, I can find a <dd:dataDescription> section for every web service used in the form, but in the post-SP1 form they are missing.
    I tried to add that section back and it will make the web service usable again, but the problem is I need to do that every times I modify anything, and I also need to create this section for a every new web service added to the form...

  • How to deploy JAR as a Web Service

    Hi,
    I am new to BPEL and interested in building Web Services using BPEL. For this I am using Oracle BPEL Process Manager(JDeveloper).
    I have a standalone Java application (which I run from command prompt) and ant script which generates the JAR file. Can I deploy this JAR as a web service using Oracle BPEL.
    I have seen the examples given by Oracle BPEL and it was mentioned that using WSIF we can create WSDL file for our java class and call this WSDL as a partner link in my BPEL process. But how should I replicate it to my application.
    Can you please direct me in proceeding further.
    Thanks
    /Kiran.

    Hi,
    This is a forum for BI Beans questions - your question seems to be purely related to ADF and BC4J, not to BI Beans..

  • Web Service: Deploy: Issues

    Hi, I am trying out the basic tutorial 'Developing, Deploying and Managing Web Services Using JDeveloper and Oracle Application Server' located at http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/ws/wsandascontrol.htm#t4
    I am getting a weird error when I try to deploy the WebService.Deploy to oc4jconn.
    This web service does not use any db connection. myjdev is configured to jdev and I can run other applications connecting to mysql. Any pointers will be great I am stuck with this error.
    Here is the full error stack:

    #### Deployment incomplete. #### Oct 7, 2006 11:08:53 PM

    I had the same problem and found the issue.  This post is to help anyone else that runs across it.
    If you get to this point you probably did the following:
      Set up a deployable proxy DC.
      Added all the entries to the various xml files.
      Had a problem with deployment of the ear due to the reference type being set to 'hard'.
      Changed the reference type to 'weak' to get the deployment to work.
    The Reference type really needs to be set to 'hard'.
    The issue is that the Reference target name needs to be set to the deployable proxy name.  For example, if the proxy DC is named 'testprxy' then the Reference target needs to have this name.  If you are using NWDI tracks (not a local DC), then the name will include the SC name (ex. abc~testprxy where abc is the SC name).
    Also, the provider name should be the same as the vendor name used for the DC.
    If the proxy DC full path name is: com.myco.abc.proxies.TestProxy -
    Summary of names and paths to use for the various entries:
      In ejb-j2ee-engine.xml - Server component JNDI name
        /wsclients/proxies/myco.com/abc~testprxy/com.myco.abc.proxies.TestProxy
      In application-j2ee-engine.xml - Reference target
        abc~testprxy  (or just testprxy if it is a local DC)
    Use any name for the Application local JNDI name in the ejb-j2ee-engine.xml.  But this is the only place in the xml files where this name is used.
    If you use MyTestProxy as the Application local JNDI name, then the reference in code for the context lookup would be 'java:comp/env/MyTestProxy'.
    Just remember local DCs don't have an SC name to include (which was 'abc~' in the examples above).
    When in doubt about the JNDI name (full path), use Visual Administrator to look at the JNDI registry (start at wsclients which is at the bottom of the list).
    Hope this helps.

  • Failure to deploy Multiple Web Services per EAR deployment

    Hi,
    I am developing web services using EJB 3.0 beans using annotations. The deployment of EAR fails when I have more than ONE Web services in a single EAR file. The exception I get is as below. Can anybody tell me if it is not possible to package more than one service in a single EAR and each web service and its supporting classes have to go in separate EAR file.
    When I deploy One Service per EAR, the deployment works fine.
    Regards,
    Vikrant.

    Hi,
    Is the problem solved?
    I am also facing a similar issues and getting the following error
    "Unable to extract web services deployment data for archive ".
    Further, its a Java EE application and it doesn't contain any web service. Why am i getting this error while deploying?
    Any body can help me out in this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkat.

    This is a known bug which is fixed in WLS 6.1 SP2.
    The workaround is to change the complex data types
    to have more than one level package names.
    for eg: change ....
    package foo;
    class Data{}
    to :
    package foo.bar;
    class Data{}
    -manoj

  • Deploy J2EE Web Service with otherwise than SUN1AS

    Right now i have a webservice up and running on a Sun1 that comes with J2EE1.4 tutorial.
    But if i try to deploy the war to other AS (say OC4J), saving the web.xml transformed to 2.3, the call to this WS fails because it says the Servlet is not a Servlet (wich is quite right). So, what is going on?
    Can't I deploy a WAR containing a WS generated with deploytool to other AS?
    Thanks and thanks again,
    Mariano.

    Things I've learnt these days.
    1-) J2EE is still too new for many Application Servers.
    2-) Developing web services is a tough, long way to go.
    I finally realized war's containing web services are not that portable at all.
    I had to download Jdev's 10g preview in order to deploy 1 miserable JAX-RPC web service in OC4J.
    And I still can't return a java.util.HashMap in the service's response...not to mention trying to add its mapping in JDev's web service creating process...
    So, hold still gentleman, for it's rough.
    Thanks,
    Mariano.

  • Using Web Dynpro authentication for a Web Service call

    Hi all,
    I want to develop a Web Dynpro that calls a Web Service running on the same Web AS (7.0). The Web Dynpro will be integrated in a Portal. The web service that has to be called is automatically generated when we create a guided procedure :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/44c59fd7c72e84e10000000a155369/frameset.htm
    In my Web Dynpro, I imported the WSDL of this WS and created a model.
    The first time I tried to call the WS in my Web Dynpro I got an authentication error :
    Service call exception; nested exception is: com.sap.engine.services.webservices.jaxrpc.exceptions.InvalidResponseCodeException: Invalid Response Code: (401) Unauthorized. The requested URL was:"http://<myHostName>:50100/GPRuntimeFacadeWS/GPProcessExposing?style=document&pid=CA544E9B629A11DB91480017A48D672A&pver=0.5"
    So I hard-coded an HTTP authentication :
         model._setUser("myWASuser");
         model._setPassword("myPassword");
    And the Web Service call now works.
    Now the next step is that the WS call is made by the user that runs the Web Dynpro. So I found this documentation :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/59/e8e95d1eba48dfa86ae91ad8816f5d/frameset.htm
    It would resolve my authentication problem, AND the transport issue : at the moment the Web Service URL is stored in the Logical Port of the WD model, and at transport time, a rebuild of the WD project will be needed.
    So I applied what is said in the doc : from the point of view of the Web Service consumer, I just had to add :
        model._setHTTPDestinationName("STARTGP");
    (where STARTGP is the name of the destination I created in the Visual Administrator with a "Logon Ticket" authentication.)
    before the execute(), and I removed my hardcoded authentication.
    Unfortunately, nothing changes... I still get a 401 authentication error.
    Does anyone have an idea about this ? Or maybe a workaround ?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
    Regards,
    Julien

    Hello Julien,
    I have a scenario similar to yours. A client webdynpro application accessing a EJB methods exposed as web service. Those EJB's methods calls R3 RFC's. The client requirements' was to allow SSO through all the layers (Webdynpro -> EJB WS -> RFC). The Webdynpro and EJB's are deployed on the same WAS.
    Solution:
    1 - Create a RFC Destination on Visual Administration provide the R3 connection parameters and set the Authentication for "Current User (Logon Ticket)". Save your Destination;
    2 - In your EJB Project open your Web Service Configuration, on the Security page, set:
        Authentication Mechanism: HTTP Authentication
        Basic (username/password)
        Use SAP Logon Ticket
    3 - In your EJB, implement the following code to create JCO Client for the RFC invocations:
    Object obj = ctx.lookup(DestinationService.JNDI_KEY);
        DestinationService dstService = (DestinationService) obj;
        RFCDestination dst = (RFCDestination) dstService.getDestination("RFC", "<YOUR_RFC_DESTINATION_NAME>");
        Properties jcoProperties = dst.getJCoProperties();
        JCO.Client jcoClient = JCO.createClient(jcoProperties);
    4 - In your EAR Project, open your "application-j2ee-engine.xml" and add the References:
         "tc/sec/destinations/service" as Service
         "tc/sec/destinations/interface" as Interface.
    5 - Create your EAR File and Deploy;
    6 - Check if the web service now requires Authentication: go to http://<host>:<port>/index.html and click on Web Services Navigator. Test your Web Service. Your Web Service should requiere you to log in before execute the test;
    7 - Go back to your Visual Administrator and create a HTTP Destination. Provide your WS URL (should be something like "http://<host>:<port>/<WS_NAME>/Config1?style=document"). Choose Authentication: Logon Ticket. Save your Destination;
    8 - Go to your webdynpro project, import your WS Model. (If you have already created it, you have to delete it and import it again, refer to this blog on how to reimport WS Models: /people/bertram.ganz/blog/2005/10/10/how-to-reimport-web-service-models-in-web-dynpro-for-java  How To Reimport Web Service Models in Web Dynpro for Java );
    9 - Open your model's Logical Ports node, go to the Security tab, and choose "Use SAP Logon Ticket";
    10 - In your webdynpro code, before you call the ws invocation (should be something like that: <YOUR_NODE_DEFINITION>.modelObject().execute();), include the following line:
    <YOUR_NODE_DEFINITION>.modelObject()._setHTTPDestinationName("<YOUR_HTTP_DESTINATION_NAME>");
    11 - Save All Metadata and deploy your Webdynpro App. Test your results.
    I hope it helps you, as the documentation on how to implement this scenario is scattered through the SDN and all the SAP help portal.
    Best regards,
    Paulo.

  • Deploy "command-line like" argument to a web-service possible?

    Hi,
    I have an axis web-service, and I need to give it a kind of "argument parameter" when I deploy it, like which configuration file it has to use.
    I don't know if this is possible, but just like a java Main method takes "String arg[ ]" params, would it be possible to pass a String argument to a web service when I deploy it and then the web-service can access the string during run-time?
    Any solution, like maybe putting something special in the axis .wsdd deployement file?
    Any help welcome!

    Hi Peter,
    You cannot replace the proxy jar generated by the Oracle Web Services runtime with your own version. If you want to provide your own version, you will have to handle it as a classic resource in your .ear file, and advertize the location of this resource using some other mechanism.

    Are you using the deprecated Web Services model or the new adaptive web services model?
    Take a look in this document: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b2bc0932-0d01-0010-6d8e-cff1b2f22bc7
