Deployment of BI Beans demo webapp

I have downloaded and installed the Jdeveloper rc2 with accompanying BI Beans, and I have completed a BI Beans tutorial, except for the last step: Deploying a JSP Application.
The JSP run fine in the embedded OC4J environment, my problem is when deploying it to my IAS server.
I have downloaded the oc4j_extended.zip from 25. march, installed it on my solaris 2.8 server where my oracle 9.0.1.2 databases are running, and started it with:
"java -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -jar oc4j.jar &"
as per instructions in the tutorial.
Pointing my browser to http://myhost:8888 gives me the default version 9.0.2.0.0A startup page, with a link to some samples etc..
I am able to run the NumberGuess sample without any errors.
Furthermore, I have followed the instructions and created a deployment profile in my Jdeveloper BIWorkspace, and tested the connection successfully.
Now, when I try to deploy the project, Jdeveloper creates a .ear and .war file locally, but they are never transferred to my oc4j server. Neither has the server.xml file etc. been updated to include my application jsp.
These are the messages from the deployment message window:
Wrote WAR file to C:\ora_misc\jdev9i_rc2\jdev\mywork\BIWorkspace\Project1\webapp.war
Wrote EAR file to C:\ora_misc\jdev9i_rc2\jdev\mywork\BIWorkspace\Project1\webapp.ear
Invoking Oracle9iAS admin tool...
C:\ora_misc\jdev9i_rc2\jdk\jre\bin\javaw.exe -jar C:\ora_misc\jdev9i_rc2\j2ee\home\admin.jar ormi://sunset/ admin **** -deploy -file C:\ora_misc\jdev9i_rc2\jdev\mywork\BIWorkspace\Project1\webapp.ear -deploymentName webapp
My PC chugs along for a while, the stops working, with no error messages.
More worrying is that on the server, in the window that started the oc4j server, the following appear:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.io.ObjectInputStream.inputArray(Compiled Code)
at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject(Compiled Code)
at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject(Compiled Code)
at com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInputStream.readType(RMIInputStream.java:118)
at com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIConnection.handleMethodInvocation(Compiled Code)
at com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIConnection.run(Compiled Code)
at com.evermind.util.ThreadPoolThread.run(Compiled Code)
Any advice on how to proceed to:
a: Fix the automatic deployment...
b: Deploy manually.
Jens
Ps. The steps I am following can be found in the document: http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/bib/tutorials/building_a_jsp/9_deploy_JSP.html

This was solved by the guys over in the j2ee forum. summary of solution is:
A. Make sure to invoke oc4j server using jdk1.3.1
B. Allocate enough ram to the oc4j server by invoking it with:
java -Xmx128m -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.inprise.vbroker.orb.ORB -jar oc4j.jar
Hope this can help someone else as well....

    hello there
    when u are deploying ur component there will be a screen that will show components present in ur jar/ear and will ask for JNDI name.U will have to fill the JNDI name manually and deploy the bean..
    If even after that u are facing the same problem, use AAT(Application Assembly Tool) to create ur jar / ear ... there is a seperate link for giving JNDI names (namely JNDI Bindings) .use this tab to specify ur JNDI name and create the jar/ear.deploy as such in WAS and i am sure the error will not occur

    - to create an EAR file with "platform=Glassfish" in the deployment profile but with the same result (I have read in the ADF docs that for ADF applications deployment of WAR files only works witin EAR files)
    From my knowledge the ADF Faces Component demo should be deployable on the certified and supported version of Glassfish as it consists of ADF Essentials features only.
    Anyone already succeeded with deployment of ADF Faces demo application on Glassfish?

    Okay, so my problem was that the URL I was using was the OC4J launch url (http://host/applicationname and my welcome-file-list was
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    I tried these two variations
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>LoginPage.faces</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>faces/LoginPage.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    and neither of these worked either. (I did restart the OC4J node between each attempt.)
    I finally created an index.html file for the application with an automatic refresh content="0;URL=faces/LoginPage.jsp" and this is working.
    Should the welcome-file-list have worked? Am I doing something wrong here?
    Thanks for the help. Mark

    Hi,
    I think you are trying to test the Hello world EJB example shipped with the product. As a first
    step I would recomend you to go through every line of the document on deploying this application,
    since, I too have experienced many errors while trying to deploy the sample applications, but on
    following the documentation, I subsequently overcame all the errors and have been working with the
    applications. So please follow the steps in documentation and let me know, if you still encounter any
    issues.
    Regards

  • Can I deploy the session bean to 9i in the JDeveloper3.2

    dear ONT
    My JDeveloper3.2 can't find the method to deploy the session bean to 9i.
    sk

    I'm not sure that's entirely correct.
    Personally I run both EJBs and servlets/JSP in OC4J. OC4J has all the 'web' features of IAS, including full SSL support.
    From a speed perspective, running the EJBs and web components in the same container will give you a huge benefit.
    Also I'm not sure what you mean by "you can't deploy EJBs into OC4J yet" - I do it daily? ;)

  • Hot-(re)deploy of managed beans

    Using JDeveloper 11 (I know, preview, but my question targets lots of versions..)
    When I change a .jsp the file is automatically redeployed.
    When I change a .java file (for example a managed Bean) and compile it into a .class, the old version is used.
    To see the result of my change I restart the OC4J (takes lot of time).
    --> Is there an easy way to hot-(re)deploy classes on OC4J / JDeveloper? (for example: something in my memory tells me Tomcat can run in a special mode, in which classes are also checked for updated versions and loaded when needed)
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    this question is better asked on the OC4J forum because JDeveloper consumes what is provided from them. I know there were plans for hot deployment, but I am not sure this is in 11 yet. So you better ask on this forum. In preview JDeveloper 11 doesn't have hot deployment for managed beans.
    Please send questions regarding JDeveloper 11 to JDeveloper and OC4J 11g Technology Preview

  • Deploying a JSF 1.2 webapp with an EJB 3.0

    Hi,
    I am trying to deploy an EAR file that consist of an EJB 3.0 stateless session bean and a mdb and JSF 1.2 and i get the following exception,

    Even being into spanish I think is easy to understand. The EAR file is developed in Eclipse IDE so I have got the libraries for the JSF 1.2 that are in the build path
    instead of WEB-INF/lib. I am not sure if that is the problem. I have been googling and have not answer (a lot of opnions but no answer)
    So please, what is the problem?

  • Bug! Hot-deploying the same bean more than once results in a DeploymentException!

    Hi all,
    Anyone else having this problem? When re-deploying an EJB within a
    running WL server 4.5.1 w/ sp9 more than once results in the following
    DeploymentException. The first time we re-deploy it works fine, but any
    re-deployments after that fail.
    This is potentially fatal in that if we have to make more than one
    change to a bean over time and re-deploy those changes, we have to cycle
    the server, which is NOT acceptable for a production environment!
    Any clues or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks!

    how about undeploy an already deployed bean first and then trying to redeploy.
    becoz i know there's an option like that with DDDeploy. I am talking of 5.1 but the
    logic should probably work in 4.5 too.
    Try doing it and see what happens.
