Deployment of Java Mobile Application

Dear All
Can anybody tell me the apparoach for deployment of a J2ME application on Mobile devices running on Windows CE/Mobile. I would like to know is it possible to deploy my application in multiple jar's and dowload to the client only those modified jar file.(somthing like webstart, but prefered a smarter webstart!)

Hi Karthick and Lakshmi
Thanks for the reply
Karthick: I have referred to the weblog which you have sent
I have few doubts which are listed below:
In the weblog it has mentioned that we should have the user name which is same as in web console but <b>we are working on NWA</b> and how to get the device ID.
From Where do we can get the setting details
Host - J2EE host -
port -J2EE port --- ??
System- WebAS system --- ??
After giving the above details, I have saved the things and went back to home page
Started Synch.. - > asked for a password -- > then I got few messages as listed below
• Synchronization started
• Connection set up (without proxy) to: http://mytecsap05:50100/meSync/servlet/meSync?~sysid=XIM&
• Connection to server failed.
• Synchronisation problems: Transport-layer (http) sync exception raised (root cause: Exception while synchronizing (java.io.IOException: Not in GZIP format))
and a continue button along with the above mentioned messages
In order to rectify the above message <b>I want to check the settings details once again</b>
So Please tell me how to check the settings details and how to move further
<b>Karthick :</b> Can I have your phone number inorder to communicate to you once and get clarified with my doubts on MI.

    Hi Shay,
    Thanks for your response.
The following is what I did:
    1. connect JavaDB on my C drive by using generic jdbc
    2. create EO, VO and AM manually based on one JavaDB table (Please note: When I use the BC4J wizard, I can only create VO, the EO is empty)
    3. run BC4J tester to insert and update data
    4. created an ADF Swing application by dragging the EMPview from data control to the editor
    5. save the project and run java class
    6. create the deployment profile by following your instruction,
and select all libraries from the Contributors list when I create the file groups
    7. deploy the jar file without any error
    8. run the jar file and get the following error:

  • Deploying a Java CORBA application in Web Start

I am a novice to Java Web Start. I have a sample Client-Server application with CORBA as a middle ware. The front end (Client) is in Java and back end (Server) is in C++. The application is run and tested with jar and batch file. Now I want to deploy that application in Java Web Start and JNLP.
I have configured the same by creating a JNLP file and signed jars.
Now as all knows any CORBA application needs a domain file ( .cfg ) and some org.omg classes to communicate with the server by RPC.
I am stuck with how to specify these domain file name, path, CORBA classes etc in my JNLP. Not even that, I can't understand exactly what configuration will make the CORBA apps work properly in Java Web Start so that it can communicate with the server as well. All the Orbix jars's, IDL Stub jars are present and signed. I am giving my JNLP file as a reference. Actually I have tried adding these domain files and CORBA classes as parameters. But as usual it is not working and after running the JNLP the Java console suddenly gets disappeared.

The firewall is present and allowed to access apps. When I am running the jar of my application from batch file then everything is running fine. The CORBA Server is a remote RHEL5 (Enterprise Linux 5) machine whose 'IP' and 'Hostname' is specified in *"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"* file. Server is running fine and after starting the Client the Server side remote method is invoked. Data fetched properly and everything is working like a charm.
When running from batch (.bat) file using jar My applications folder hierarchy is something like this.
    Test_CORBA_App
------+config ( contains resources file and domain file )
    ------+lib_6.3 ( contains all Jars)
------+log ( will contaiin the generated log files )
    -------runCORBA_App.bat ( the batch file I am running )
As depicted above the folder hierarchy, my domain file resides in "config" folder. The contents of the batch file are as follows :
    runCORBA_App.bat
    C:\jdk1.6.0_14\bin\java -Xms64M -Xmx512M -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.iona.corba.art.artimpl.ORBImpl -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.iona.corba.art.artimpl.ORBSingleton -jar lib_6.3\UI_Fall_Test63.jar -ORBdomain_name VOIAMODOMAINNEW 1
    pause
The following things are specified in the batch file :
    1. JDK path : ( C:\jdk1.6.0_14\bin\java )
    2. Java VM arguments for max and min memory : ( -Xms64M -Xmx512M )
    3. ORB class name: ( -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=com.iona.corba.art.artimpl.ORBImpl )
    4. ORB singleton class name : ( -Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=com.iona.corba.art.artimpl.ORBSingleton )
    5. Jar file name to run : ( -jar lib_6.3\UI_Fall_Test63.jar )
    6. Domain Name : ( -ORBdomain_name VOIAMODOMAINNEW )
    7. Main function args : ( 1 )
I am trying to deploy this simple CORBA application in Java Web Start and JNLP. I kept this in my tomcat server web apps. The folder hierarchy is as follows :
    tomcat
    ---+ bin
    ---+ conf
    ---+ ..
    ---+ ..
    ---+ ..
    ---_ webapps
    ----------+ host-manager
    ----------+ manager
    ----------+ ..
    ----------+ ..
    ----------_ Test_CORBA_App
    -------------------+ config
    -------------------+ lib_6.3
    -------------------+ lib_6.3-Signed
    -------------------+ log
    --------------------CORBADemo.jnlp (.jnlp file)
    --------------------index.html (.html file)
As you can see I maintained the same folder structure as it was when running from batch file. The jars I am using is signed and kept in lib_6.3-Signed folder.
    My updated "CORBADemo.jnlp" is :
    CORBADemo.jnlp

As desired the Web Start application will make a call to the remote CORBA server on RHEL5 machine by initializing the ORB and resolving the CORBA NamingService. But exception is occurring as I posted in previous post i.e exception while resolving NamingService.
Now my query is whether the domain file ( DOMAIN.cfg ) is reading/ accessing properly from my machine while running the JNLP or not. Because I presume in Java Web Start special attention is required to read any .cfg file. If everything is fine why the error is occurring.
*@ EJP :* The ORB is desired to run and running on the CORBA Server remote macine i.e RHEL5 machine, because from batch file it is working fine.
Is it so that I need to run the Tomcat Web Server and CORBA Server from the same machine.

  • Login Java Mobile Application

    hi all....
I'm implementing login application using NetBeans 5.5. But the problem is that the success form is always displayed whether the ID+password is right or wrong.
    Can anyone help me please?

i have ever encountered the identical problem you have.
do you use the httpconnection that connection to the web server?
and check the name and password in the database?
if so,i can tell you the solution.
you can use URL like "localhost://pagename.jsp?name='"nametextfield.getString()"'"+"&password=''"passwordtextfield.getString()"" to connect the server.
    <form>
    <input name="name">
    <input name="password">
    </form>
    <%
    String name=request.getParameter("name");
    String password=request.getParameter("password");
    %>
    using sql statement
select * from logintable where name='"+name+"' and password='"+password+"'
    rs=stmt.executeQuery(sqlstatement);
    while(rs.next()){
    out.println("1");
then let the midlet read the data from this file and check if there is a "1"
printed out,if true, login to the mainform.
Hope my tip can help u.

  • What is Mobile Application?

can someone tell me bowt mobile app?
what software do i need to create one?

    Hi vicious,
To learn successful Java Mobile Edition, time is needed!
You must be cool (having a correct plan for when learning what), permanently optimize your learn - method and improve your overall understanding of Java Technology.
Java Technology is a fine organized structure, build up of many (sub) technologies like
         Java Programming language
Java SE, Java ME, Java SE platforms
Those, common to Java platforms like JXTA, ..
Generally - based on my own experience - to learn Java ME:
You must: have a solid understanding of Java Programming language and be familiar with Java Standard Edition (having some experiences with its APIs, specially those APIs re-used in Java ME, even modified to meet the requirements of mobile devices)
    Also to start:
    1.     Setup correctly your development environment (IDE and other needed tools).
I can only recommend the NetBeans 5.0, NetBeans Mobility Pack 5.0 and Sun Wireless Toolkit (first WTK 2.3 later 2.5 Beta). Note that correct choice and professional use of development tools is very important for a beginner.
You need time to know each of these feature-rich software enough good!
NetBeans IDE, Mobility Pack and Sun WTK are at SDN available for your free downloading!
You have also to download Java SE SDK (JDK 5.0) and install it first, than install NetBeans IDE and finally the Mobility Pack.
Note, that Mobility Pack is the embedded WTK into NetBeans IDE. But I recommend you to install WTK (after JDK5.0-installation) and work with it for a while. This will speed up your learn process!
    2.     After you setup your development environment, start the learning of Java programming language by use of NetBeans IDE and through development of simple applications, targeting Java SE platform.
There are several sample applications (incl. source code) in the IDE integrated and ready to use.
You need time to learn Java language (its a powerful means) and know the Java SE (its extensive, but at beginning reduce it to subset of APIs common to Java SE and ME for example APIs, located in packages as lang, util and io)
    3.     When you feel you are enough familiar with Java language and Java SE platform, you can use WTK to learn about Java ME.
WTK has many interesting sample MIDP-applications. Its recommended to be focused on samples and APIs related to CLDC-MIDP runtime execution environment. Without solid understanding of CLDC-MIDP you will never become a good mobile Java software developer. To my eyes, thats the most important part of your Java ME - learning process.
After you become familiar with CLDC-MIDP APIs, use other sample applications of WTK, relating to Java ME optional packages (OPs). There are many OPs in Java ME, all interesting but I recommend starting with Wireless Messaging API (WMA) , Mobile Media API (MMAPI) and Java Bluetooth API (JBTAPI), because they are supported by almost mobile phones.
Now you may go to use Mobility Pack of NetBeans IDE to develop your own Java Mobile applications. Its widely similar to WTK!
Note also: On SDN-site, there are a lot of professional learning materials about all 3 Java Platforms (SE, EE, ME). At Java ME Site under Technical Tips and Articles you will find additional sources of excellent quality, helping you to become a good Java ME developer fast and without unnecessary overhead
I didnt mention some details, which are not very important for you at this stage.
Its better to learn about Java technology daily and in team, if possible (together with other interested individuals)
So I hope, given you the right direction, to join soon the Java mobility, the top of software industry.
I love Java ME, its elegance and enjoy to see and understand - led by Sun Microsystems & partners - how it change the world of computing direction freedom and fairness in this-today-world.
There is a lot of work for everybody there!
    bye,
    Asghar

  • Questions on deploying Java desktop applications

    Hello,
I have searched the forums and been unable to find the information I need. I am not sure this is the appropriate forum to post at but had to start somewhere!
I have a Java desktop application which has only been used internally at my organization for R&D. We are now working with our legal folks on setting up various licensing options. The funding organization today said that they wanted the software set up such that deploying it externally would have behaviors such as:
    * preventing one CD being used to install on multiple machines,
    * preventing someone from copying the installed software from one machine to another,
    * have a way for the software to "expire" after a set amount of time.
I have never had to deploy software externally before (nor does it seem has anyone else at my organization - we do science R&D) and am at a loss as to how to best do this. I have googled around a bit but not found any solutions. Has anyone here done this and could perhaps give me some pointers?
    Much Thanks,
    Keri

Given you new not only to deployment, but also
posting to these forums, I will take the opportunity
to point out that I let this post be for a couple of
days since in had no Dukes assigned. To my
eye, dukes indicate how important a question is
to whoever asked it, and I do not generally have
time to answer questions that are not important.
You can add dukes to a thread at any time.

Web start apps. are usually deployed directly off
a server/internet site. Although deployment off CD
is theoretically possible, it is uncommon.
The basic answer to all your questions as asked is 'no'.
However, if the legal people can take a slightly different
line, and that server/site has some 'active' element to it
(e.g. it is generated using servlets), there might be other
    options worth considering.
The basic approach would be not to sell licenses
per machine, but per 'use', in the sense that if
I were to sell you a license, it would be for 'nn users',
rather than 'nn machines'. This means that if you
had a license for 'two' users (let's call them Bob
and Harriet), both Bob and Harriet could use any
PC in the organization to use the software,
but once they were both logged in, no further
users of the software would be allowed.
The way to achieve this is to have the application
'phone home' to the server and tell it the
    username(/password). Every 2-3 minutes,
the app. should get back to the server and
confirm it is 'still running..'. If the app. cannot
reach the server, it reports a problem to the
    user, and exits.
If the server does not get a 'still running' confirmation
in a time longer than that few minutes, it assumes
the app. is off-screen, and frees that 'licence slot'.
The reason to keep letting the server know it is
there, is that if Harriet were to be logged in, and
Bob accidentally trips over the power cord and
drops Harriet's computer in a screaming heap,
her app. will never have the chance to 'log out'
and inform the server to free the slot.
As such, it is important to allow her to log-in again in
'a few minutes' (which is probably about the amount
of time it will take her machine to reboot, and chide
    Bob for his oafish carelessness).
Using this system, the first & second requirements
above become redundant - as it is not the number of
PC's that we care about - just the number of users.
The third requirement could easily be handled on
the server-side, checking licenses as users
log-in, and confirming that license is still valid.

  • Error in deploying the java studio creator application to tomcat

    Hi,
I'm trying to deploy my Sun Java Studio application to Apache Tomcat 5.0.28.
A simple JSF web application built using the creator works fine after deploying the war file under tomcat/weapps directory.
In case of a application with databse connection I'm getting the
" com.sun.rave.web.ui.appbase.ApplicationException: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create JDBC driver of class '' for connect URL 'null' "
above error. My application connects to Oracle database using the Oracle Server type provided by the Studio Creator.
    I have copied
    jstl.jar
    standard.jar
    to webapps\%app%\WEB-INF\lib
The below url is currently not available ( Page not Found )stated as a solution in most of the querries regarding the deplyment to tomcat.

    Thanks for any help
    abhi

    I had similar problems.
I used mysql with tomcat and have mysql in my Creator environment as well but still had the driver message you experienced.
I found that simply copying the WAR file into the webapp directory in tomcat caused a faulty deployment (it was creating /etc/tomcat5/localhost/YourProject.xml as a directory, not as a file)
I updated my Projects/MyProject/build.xml to include a deploy target and I manually execute the ant deploy step (having not figured out how to tweak the internal ant within Creator)
Note that this requires two jar files (see comments in the ant definition)

This is an element ordering issue. env-entry is before resource-ref in the schema so it must be declared in the same order.

  • Problem with CORBA application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0.

Java Web Start fans and experts:
We have been using Java Web Start to deploy the client side of a CORBA-based application since the inception of Java Web Start ... including Java Web Start 1.0 right up through the present.
With Java Web Start 1_6_0, we see evidence that Web Start is "tinkering with" the IOR that CORBA uses to communicate. In all previous versions of Java Web Start, independent of the JRE which the application uses, the stringified IOR have been the same size regardless of whether the application is deployed locally or via Java Web Start. With Java Web Start 1_6_0, the stringified IOR is much longer than the "real" IOR (again, regardless of the JRE used by the application itself). To me this smells like a bug in Java Web Start 1_6_0. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Here are some specifics .... I've run the same client application with various JREs both with and without Java Web Start as the deployment mechanism. The application was compiled and runs against servers that are running JDK 1_5_0_09.
Here is the summary of my results from a Linux box running various JREs, various versions of Java Web Start, and also running as a non-JWS deployed application. I've listed the length of the stringified IOR in each case.
    JRE 1.5.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
JRE 1.6.0 non-JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344 ... this, I think, excludes the JRE as the cause of these problems.
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.5.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 344
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.6.0 JWS client: stringified IOR length = 1568
Java WS 1.6.0, JRE 1.5.0 JWS cleint: stringified IOR length = 1568
In all cases, the stringified IOR length is determined by the service receiving the message and is always running JRE 1_5_9_09 and is
always the same 344 characters in length UNLESS it was deployed
using Java Web Start 1_6_0, in which case it in nearly 5 times as big!
To me, it sure looks as if there is a problem with Java Web Start 1_6_0 to be adding so much to the stringified IOR. Note: it's hard to tell how different the underlying IOR is in the JWS 1_6_0 case because, unlike most other ORBs, the Sun ORB doesn't have a tool to extract the IOR into a human readable structure. However, I can think of no good reason why the identical application deployed using Java Web Start 1_6_0 should have a stringified IOR length that is different than that of the same application deployed in non-JWS form or should differ from the behavior seen in all previous releases of Java Web Start.
Any clues or suggestions? Has anyone else observed this behavior?
    Thanks,
    John

  • How can I deploy JBI Application in Sun Java System Application Server 9?

I developed a demo "Loan Processing Composite Application " in Netbeans.org(http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/loanprocessing.html).
The guide only show the deployment using Netbeans6.Now I want to deploy it directly using Server9 , how can I do?
How to deploy a soa application in Sun Java System Application Server 9? Is there any doc?
    Please~~I'm puzzled.

To deploy a JBI application to Sun's App Server, you will need a JBI compliant ESB installed. OpenESB would be my first choice here. Then as far as installing your components without Netbeans, there are two choices. 1) Copy your SA's to the JBI/ESB autodeploy directory and you binding components and service engines to the JBI/ESB autoinstall directory. 2) Use the ant tasks that the JBI specification (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=208) requires for all JBI implementations. OpenESB's JBI tasks are detailed here: http://wiki.open-esb.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=JBIAntTaskReference. These ant tasks can be wrapped with maven goals if needed.
