Depreciation for IFRS requirement

Hello experts,
Could anyone explain me the configurations required for IFRS related to depreciation. My company is following Indian GAAP in Leading ledger. The non-leading ledger is also active. Now I want to make the relevant changes for depreciation for IFRS and assign that to the non-leading ledger. Please also note that the depreciation is already posted till date in leading ledger which is also reflected in non-leading ledger.
It would be great If some one could send the detail configuration document to me at sangramc at rediffmail.
Thanks in advance
Sangram

Hi,
The following changes needs  to be made for you chart of Depreciation.
Define How Depreciation Areas Post to General Ledger
Here you have to specify the your Depreciation area real or derived and you have to specify the Post to G/L account and  target Ledger Group.
Assign G/L Accounts - here you have to assign GL accounts as per your depreciation area.
Define Currencies of Leading Ledger :
Check your company code settings for Define Currencies of Leading Ledger.
Delta Depreciation Area :
You have to define Delta depreciation area to post the differential in you IFRS and LGAAP.
this depreciation area should be derivied Depreciation area.

What are the required depreciation areas for IFRS in asset accounting.
    Regards,
    Vani.

    hi
You should use the local rules for depreciation area 01 = local book and
set up your group rules in another depreciation area such as 30 where you can use different GAAP & use relevant depreciation Key.
    Assign points if useful,

  • IFRS requirement , minority interest calculation and accounting for in SAP.

    hi ,
We need  financial  consolidation with full consolidation , equity interest, minority interest as per  IFRS requirements  along with inter company eliminations
Will it be possible thru ECCS or we need to go to SEM suite.
    thanks
    KR

    Hi,
With Virtual Ledgers in Ecc 5.0 and 6.0 we can customise few things and connected to ECCS module.
If you have BI,SEM modules implemented then it is better to go with Consolidation modules rather than ECCS.

  • How shadow accounting for IFRS can be done

    Hello all,
When cost of implementation of IFRS are huge and requires new G/L, Is it possible to have a shadow accounting practise.
Lets say we create a financial statement version based on IFRS accounting structure.
    1. how the apc posting to be made for IFRS depreciation ares.
    2. how the depreciation will be posted in this case if the IFRS depreciation area is made as real.
    Regards,
    Keith.

Hi Keith --- First a couple of points for you.  I would not necessarily assume the cost of IFRS adoption will be "huge" as the cost and complexity of the project will be dependant on your own existing landscape and the industry and country where you will be adopting IFRS.  Really the best way to scope the complexity and cost of the IFRS adoption project is to work closely with your audit/consulting partner and SAP to really determine what the best course of action should be.  Basically, the sooner you engage the better as it will save time and money.
Regarding you second point regarding the SAP General Ledger (NewGL).  Although it is the recommend solution it is not a requirement.  There are other solutions available that utilize a single ledger approach.  For example the use of the "Account Based" configuration approach for the GL and utilizing the reporting capabilities found within SAP BusinessObjects may be the best approach for your situation.  See SAP and IFRS: FAQ document at https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/60eecedc-7ff0-2b10-b2be-c329c1114298
As far a reporting from a "Shadow Accounting Practice" the SAP General Ledger does offer the ability to set up multiple ledgers which can be used for reporting on different accounting standards.  For example set the Leading Ledger to report on IFRS and another non-leading ledger to report on Local GAAP.  If it turns out that the adoption of the SAP General Ledger is not the best course of action at present then you could use the tools found within SAP BusinessObjects to report on the various legal options.
As far as IFRS reporting from the Depreciation Areas goes, this would require the set up of multiple deprecation areas tied to separate ledger or specific account groups within your Chart of Accounts.   Again for more specific information regarding this questions I would suggest contacting your audit/consulting partner or SAP Field Services for further guidance

  • Parallel Accounting Method for IFRS

    Hello all,
My company would like to explore the parallel accounting method for IFRS. Currently we are on ECC 6.0 with classic GL.
Currently we have both US GAAP and local GAAP reporting running in the same ledger. We use a similar method (setting up additional H accounts which are used in local GAAP reporting only) to segregate local GAAP from US GAAP as recommended by SAP.
We set up 2 different depreciation areas: 01 (post to US GAAP accounts) and 02 (post to local GAAP accounts). The problem we ran into at year-end is pertaining to Retained Earnings. Because this a complete replacement method (US GAAP reporting will ignore all the H accounts which are set up for local GAAP and visa versa), we can't simply roll all the P/L accounts into one Retained Earnings account. We have to set up 3 Retained Earnings account (one for US GAAP only accounts, one for common accounts and another one for local GAAP accounts).
If we add IFRS into the mix, we will need to set up even more Retained Earnings accounts which is not ideal. Also, we plan on including more countries into our SAP environment which requires us to generate additional local GAAP reporting. So my thinking is that this will become very hard to manage.
Also, this method will fall apart if the common accounts are not the same for any of the reporting requirement (e.g. common accounts for US GAAP and local GAAP are different than IFRS).
My understanding is there are 2 ways to handle parallel accounting: replacement (which is what we are current using) or adjustment methods. Instead of completely replacing the US GAAP accounts, the adjustment method is to post the delta to the additional accounts.
    My question is:
    1. Giving current situation of my company, what is the best method to handle IFRS and also implement additional local GAAP reporting in the same environment?
    2. What is the best practice to handle parallel accounting method? Replacement or adjustment method?
    3. Since I'm already in the replacement method, can I easily switch to the adjustment method?
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Cassandra Wong

    Cassandra,
Check out this blog which has info and process map for parallel accounting. Theer's also a link for a recent SAP webinar about how we implemented parallel reporting for our own use.

  • Stop depreciation for an Asset

    Hi,
I understand when we create a asset master, the number of life years and the depreciation key are copied from the asset class it belongs to.
However, the finance side requires to pause depreciation for a asset, or they could want to stop depreciation for this asset, and how do we go about doing it? The situation now is that this asset already have depreciation posted.
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks

You can use the asset shutdown functionality so you can pause the depreciation for a given period of time.
AS02 > Time dependent tab , click the asset shutdown. In case asset shutdown is not available, check spro and customise fixed asset master data.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to do write-up of depreciation for AUC(investment measure)

    Dear All,
In one AUC asset posted some negative value, say -7000.00. After that posted 100000 through WBS internal AUC settlement. Posted the depreciation for one month. After that they have reversed this 100000 AUC settlement. For Book deprn it is 0% rate and for Tax deprn rate is 100%. So now Book deprn NBV is coming correct as -7000.00. For Tax deprn NBV is -21000.00.
    Requirements,
    1) I want to write-up the Tax deprn posted 21000.00 then
    2) Is it possible to transfer negative value -7000.00 to new asset.
For 1) I have tried in ABZU with T.type 712 but it is showing error as "Asset is investment measure, transaction type not allowed".
Is there any other transaction type I can use for this or do you have any other solution for this.

  • Calculation of Depreciation for Tax for India

    Hi
In India, there is a requirement that the Depreciation for Income Tax should be calculated based on the date of Acquisition. If an asset has been acquired before or on completion of 180 days of a Financial Year, than the calculation of Depreciation is allowed for full year. If the asset has been acquired after 180 days , depreciation is allowed only for 180 days. Hence for an asset acquired on 25/09/2009, system should allow calculation of depreciation from 01/04/2009, assuming that the fiscal year starts from 01/04/2009 and ends on 31/03/2009. However, if the asset is acquired on 07/10/2009, the system should allow depreciation from 01/10/2009. Sap has delivered standard depreciation keys for the same in reference chart of depreciation for India 0IN.
But if the asset has been acquired on 01/10/2009, still the asset has to be depreciated from 01/04/2009, since the asset has been acquired for less than 180 days into the fiscal year. The system is working fine for asset capitalized on 25/09/2009 and 07/10/2009. But we are not able to map the same if asset is capitalized on 01/10/2009 and 02/10/2009. For these two dates, the depreciation should start from 01/04/2009.
I have checked the period control setting and calender assignments and everything seems to be in place. How can we tackle the issue?
    Regards
    Sanil K Bhandari

    Hi
The same has been resolved.I Created a new assignment in Period Control IT for my fiscal year variant. For month 10, i added a new line item with no of days as 2 in addition to no of days as 31 for month 10.

  • Calculation of Depreciation for Group Asset

    Hi Experts,
I am getting a problem while doing depreciation for group asset
    Ex:  80,000;  Rate 10%
total depreiaiton p.a is Rs 8000/-
as per the Indian standards if it is below 180 days it should take Rs 4000/-, but in my system it is showing Rs 3333.33
my depreciation start date & capitlization date is 01.11.2007.
    Regards,
    Satya Vani.

    Dear,
    Reshma.
Looking at your Questions let us take explanation for Group Assets :-
1 ) We need to create new different asset class for Group Class in OAOA. Then permit the depreciation area for only Group Asset in OAYM as it is in your current scenario India  is Depreciation Area 15 Just select your company code in OAYM and check the Grp Asset field for respective area 15. Then go to OAAX here we have to maintain the assets classes particularly for Group Assets. So check your Group Asset classes for Group Assets. Cerate different Group asset classes for your said requirement.
In these depreciation areas, it is then possible to make an assignment to a group asset.  You make this assignment in the specifications for the depreciation area in the asset master record.  When you post an acquisition to this kind of asset, the system duplicates the line items from this depreciation area on the given group asset.
2 ) According to me you have to create different depreciation keys for Group Asset classes. Assign the Depreciation keys to your newly created Group Asset Classes in OAYZ and make sure you are deactivating 01 area which is Book Depreciation area.
3 ) As far as I know this is the only functionality available to handle Group Assets. How ever SAP does not have any standard Group Assets functionality. SAP does not supply asset classes to be used solely for group assets. It is we have to determine as per varying Business Process.
I hope this will clear your doubt makes you to understand. Please revert back for further clarification. Welcome you.

  • Unable to calculate depreciation for 2008

    Hi friends,
I would like to calculate depreciation for the fiscal year 2008.This is client requirement. He calculated depreciation 2008 and period-1.When he tried to execute depreciation for 2nd period he is getting problem
"Not all the documents in the last posting run were posted"
         Message no. AA 729
    Diagnosis
The posting session created in the last posting run was not completely
processed. The last posting run was in fiscal year 2008, period 001,
current number 01.  A new posting run is only possible once the posting
         session has been processed completely.
    Procedure
Process the session created by the last posting run again. If this
session no longer exists, you can create a new posting session that
contains the missing posting documents.  This function is found in the
menu under "Recreate session."  However, it is essential that no changes
have been made in the meantime to the Customizing definition of the
         document number range.
After that i have analysed this situation. When i check TABA Table system showing document numbers are updated but document posted indicator X is not showing.
I have also checked FI documents it is not showing.
I have tried to recreate session but my problem has not been solved.
I found one SAP Note : 926062 - Errors AU265 or  AA729 during RAJABS00  OR RABUCH00.It is the consulting issue.
Can anybody help me out resolve this situation and how can calculate depreciation ?
    Thanks in Advance .

    Dear Anji,
We had a similar situation. It was resolved for the period 1 and the once again system showed the same error while processing for period 3, same error 'Not all the documents.....
    Procedure followed is this.
T.Code : AFBD for recreation of the session.
T.Code : SM37 the job wil show as finished and display will show as waiting.
but in spool display the log's last line will inform us to proces the session wainting in SM35
T.Code : SM35 process it by checking on Display Errors Only, and enter the appropriate  transaction type (220)
After the above, we found the TABA table document number ranges are matching with FB03.
and the posting indicator is also updated.
    Warm Regards
    KV

  • How to reverse the posted depreciation for a particular period..?

    Hi Experts,
Please solve my problem, that my client users are changed the depreciation key in last month as per legal requirement. While changing the depreciation key they select the wrong depreciation key and run the depreciation in AFAB. But after running the depreciation they came to know that amount is wrong because of the wrong depreciation key. So now they want reverse the entry for last month only and post the new entry with changed depreciation key.
Please give me advise how to reverse depreciation for only Last month. That should effect the all previous posting.
    Regards
    Narendra

    Hi,
Depreciation Posted of only of the Previous Fiscal years
can be reversed using ABZU Write-Up.
    ABZU -->Reverse the Past
Dep. For current depreciation reversal you have no alternative except reversing
co code depreciation document posted using OAGL and then repost it.

  • How to stop Depreciation for some assets & start again.

    Dear Friends,
We have a requirement where we have to stop Depreciation for some assets as they are not in use and again post depreciation when they put in use.
For ex: Asset Value is 10,000 and monthly Depreciation is 100. Asset has been depreciated for first 6 periods in year with 100 each in every month & we want to stop depreciation for coming 3 months and post depreciation when they put in use. Asset should not be depreciated when they are not in use and calculate regular 100 if we run depreciation again if we put in use. So total Depreciation of the asset for the year should be 900 (First 6 Months & last 3 months).
Please explain step by step process to do this and your kind cooperation to solve this issue is highly appreciated.
Points will be rewarded for sure if my problem solves.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Naveen Kumar.

Go to AS03 Asset Master/Dep tab and observe the dep key
Goto AFAMA and select that dep key and click on assignment of calculation methods
You can see last row for shutdown field and select YES
Go to asset master at AS02/Time dependent data and select shutdown check box and enter period
If shutdown check box is not available goto as03 and goto menu environment-screen layout and master data and identify the screen layout number
Go to SPRO-Financial Accounting (New)-Asset Accounting-Master Data-Screen Layout-Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data-Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data-
Select your screen layout and click on logical field groups and select 3 (Time dependent data) and click on field group rules and make shutdown field as optional.
This will allow you to change the shutdownfield asset master data.

  • Stop Depreciation for a specific Dep Area

    All
I am able to stop depreciation for a specific period. My requirement is to stop depreciation for a specific Depriciation Area -01. My client has 4 dep area's (01,02 & ..). Depriciation has stopped in both the depriciation areas (01&02). I had activated Asset shut down and increased the useful life only for Dep Area 01 & not Dep area 02. Both Dep Ar. 01 & 02 use the same Dep Key. Client requirement is Dep has to be stopped for a specific period and specific Dep Area(01). I had stopped dep for a specific period but this has stopped for both the dep area's (01&02)..
Is there a solution to the above. Please let me know if any.
    Regards
    Sekhar

Check by marking indicator D-Default value from company code and depreciation area in definition of depreciation key in AFAMA.
