Derived column transformation from varchar(8) YYYYMMDD to DATETIME column
It seems I have tried everything, but all I need to do is change a column from varchar(8) to DATETIME. Some lines are blank, zero length strings, and some have dates such as 20140829. All the rows go to an exception table or it just bombs altogether. The
only thing I can get to run is NULL(DT_DATE), but obviously, that won't work in the end.
I tried LTRIM(RTRIM(MyDateColumn) == "" ? (DT_DATE)"1900-01-01" : (DT_DATE)(SUBSTRING(MyDateColumn,1,4) + "-" + SUBSTRING(MyDateColumn,5,2) + "-" + SUBSTRING(MyDateColumn,7,2))
I got truncation errors on that.
Sometimes I got an error: An error occurred while attempting to perform a type cast.
I tried DT_DATE, DT_DBDATE and DB_DBTIMESTAMP
I even tried putting GETDATE() in there or a literal date such as "2014-08-29" like (DT_DBDATE)"2014-08-29"
This wouldn't even compile: MyDatCeolumn == "" ? NULL(DT_DBDATE) : (DT_STR,10,1252)((DT_DBDATE)MyDateColumn)
I tried many variations on these. I either got truncation errors or the transformation would turn red and stop, or the expression wouldn't work (turns red when you leave the row).
Review:
Source MyDateColumn VARCHAR(8) NULL; Target MyDateColumn DATETIME; Source values in format of "" (blank) or "20140829". The blanks should end up null, or maybe a literal date like Jan 1, 1900, and the actual dates should be transformed
to DATETIME.
Should not be that hard. Thanks in advance for help.
Hi duanewilson,
Please create a Derived Column transformation and a new column, then use the following expression for the expression field:
(DT_DATE)(SUBSTRING([MyDateColumn],1,4) + "-" + SUBSTRING([MyDateColumn],5,2) + "-" + SUBSTRING([MyDateColumn],7,2))

How to get only column names from different tables as single table columns
Hi All,
I have one requirement in which we want only column names from different tables.
for example :
I have three tables T1 ,T2, T3 having
col1 clo2 clo3 --> T1 ,
col3 col5 ,clo6 --> T2 ,
Clo6 col8 col9 --> T3
columns i want to get only all Column names from all table as single Resultset not any data from that how can i get that empty resultset
because this empty result i want to bind in datagridview(front end) as Empty resultset
Please tell me anyways to do this
Niraj SevalkarIf I understand you want an empty result set, just with metadata. SET FMTONLY do the trick:
SET FMTONLY ON
SELECT Col1, Col2, Col3, ....., Coln
FROM
T1 CROSS JOIN T2 CROSS JOIN T3
SET FMTONLY OFF
Another alternative is to include an imposible contition
SELECT Col1, Col2, Col3, ....., Coln
FROM
T1 CROSS JOIN T2 CROSS JOIN T3
WHERE 1 = 0
If you are using a SqlDataAdapter in your client application. You can use the FillSchema method. the select command may be any select statement that returns the columns you want. Under the covers FillSchema will call SET FMTONLY ON.
If you are using SqlCommand.ExecuteReader you can pass SchemaOnly to CommandBehavior argument. SET FMTONLY ON is called under the covers. Again the select command may be any select statement that returns the columns you want.

Derived Column Transformation Editor and a Date
My vendor file used to have "N/A" in the Date field and I used a Derived Column Transformation Editor to feel this out with the following expression...
PAPER_STOP_DATE == "N/A" ? NULL(DT_WSTR,50) : PAPER_STOP_DATE
Now the vendor has also decided to pass nothing in there. So I honestly don't know if it's a "" or a <NULL>. It's coming from an Excel spreadsheet.
Is there any easy way to add "" to this expression and how? Or is there a way to determine if this field is a proper date format?
This is the date that exists in the cell...
03-aug-2014
After I determine if it is a "N/A", I am doing a Data Conversion on it and it is properly loading to our SQL Server Database.
Thanks in advance for your review and am hopeful for a reply.
ITBobbyP85If i understand correctly you want to derived a column to NULL if the input "paper stop date" is "N/A" or "" or a NULL else the actual "paper stop date". Right ?
PAPER_STOP_DATE == "N/A" || TRIM(PAPER_STOP_DATE) == "" || ISNULL(PAPER_STOP_DATE) ? NULL(DT_WSTR,50) : PAPER_STOP_DATE

SSIS: Using CASE Statement Within A Derived Column Transformation Expression
The following is my Data Flow:
Ole DB Source > Copy Column > Derived Column >Ole DB Command
My OLE DB Source has the following SQL command task:
SELECT *
FROM Repair R
LEFT OUTER JOIN Vehicle V
ON R.SN = V.SN
AND R.Reg = V.Reg
LEFT OUTER JOIN Product P
ON R.PID = P.PID
This yields a column of concern for me named PartNumber, which are represented by the following 2 formats:
The following are my Copied Columns:
Input Column = PartNumber
Output Alias = Copy of PartNumber
The following are my Derived Column expressions:
Derived Column Name Derived Column Expression
Name Replace 'PartNumber' LEFT(PartNumber,FINDSTRING(PartNumber,"-",1) - 1)
Copy of Name Replace 'Copy of PartNumber' RIGHT([Copy of PartNumber],LEN([Copy of PartNumber]) - FINDSTRING([Copy of PartNumber],"-",1))
So My PartNumber Column is Replaced with ######### of type
string and the Copy of PartNumber column is replaced with
#### of type int
As I stated earlier PartNumber also is in the format of %-%-% which raises the following question:
How can I replace PartNumber Column with NULL if in format of
%-%-% and take the PartNumber and put it in new column named
SubPart while keeping all the logic within SSIS objects?
So in essence I want to do something like the following:
PartNumber = CASE
WHEN 'PartNumber' LIKE '%-%-%'
THEN ABC = PartNumber AND PartNumber IS NULL
END
I have tried the case statement in a Derived Column expression and is not working. Would I add the
CASE statement to the SQL command task in my OLE DB Source?
I hope this question is concise for you.If it must be in SSIS, I would put a derived column stage earlier in the process to do my check for me. Then in the second derived column stage do the check against each output column (part, subpart, copy of part) to decide which way it goes
PS Not sure if it's a 2012 function but SSIS has a function called TOKEN that will allow you to pull your subparts for you rather than the left/right you are doing -

Desc doesn't show datetime columns from SQl Server
Hi Everyone,
I have working db link to sql server using hsodbc:
Oracle 10.2 on AIX using freetds odbc driver version 0.82.
I can access tables on sql server but oracle sees only varchars and numerics columns in a table.
Is there a way to select datetime columns from sql server using hsodbc?when hsodbc does not show a certain data type it is commonly related to the fact that HSODBC doesn't support the related ODBC data type.
In general you have a data type in your SQL Server which is mapped to an ODBC data type by the ODBC driver. HSODBC then maps the ODBC data type to an Oracle equivalent and when the ODBC data type isn't supported by HSODBC it just drops it from the select list.
So for a root cause analysis an ODBC trace is required to determine the mapping of the FreeTDS ODBC driver.
With this info we can then compare the mapping documented in the HSODBC manual and if the ODBC data type isn't listed as a supported data type you then need to cast the data type on the source side to a different data type (for example varchar/char).
So please post the ODBC trace and I'll have a look.

Changing a column postion from say 5th to 1st
Hi there,
i need some help on changing a column position to a preferred
position.
Can an 'Alter' statement do it. Whether yes or no, how?
---My table
create table new_employee(
empno number(4),
ename varchar2(25),
job varchar2(15),
deptno number(2),
title varchar2(2)'
sex varchar(1)'
constraint pk_new_employee primary key (empno),
constraint fk_new_employee foreign key (deptno) references dept);
How can I make 'title' column become the first column.
Much appreciation in advance.
AyoThe only way to physically change the order of columns in a
table is to drop the table and re-create it with the order you
want. This is, however, completely unneccessary. The physical
order of the columns is meaningless in Oracle. You can index on
any column or set of columns in any order regardless of where
they are in the physical order.
If you want to get title as the first column, you simply select
it first when you query the table.
SELECT title, empno, ename
FROM new_employee
The only time that the physical order of the columns matters is
when you do an insert statement without a column list. For
example, given your table, and the following data:
empno 123
ename SMITH
job CLERK
deptno 20
TITLE SR. CLERK
SEX M
This insert statement will work:
INSERT INTO new_employee
VALUES (123,'SMITH','CLERK',20,
'SR. CLERK','M')
This one will not:
INSERT INTO new_employee
VALUES ('SR. CLERK',123,'SMITH','CLERK',
20,'M')
This one will:
INSERT INTO new_employees
(title,empno,ename,job,deptno,sex)
VALUES ('SR. CLERK',123,'SMITH','CLERK',
20,'M')As long as you tell Oracle in which order the column values are
passed, you can populate the columns in any order. -

For some business requirements, users want to extract values from a multi-value enabled lookup column
and add items to another list based on each separate value. In contrast, others want to find duplicate values in the list and merge associated values to a multi-value enabled column and then
add items to another list based on the merged value. All of these can be achieved using SharePoint Designer 2013 Workflow.

Things to note
Steps to create Workflow
How to
extract values from a multi-value enabled lookup column and
add items to another list based on each separate value using SharePoint Designer 2013.
For example, they have three lists as below. They want to
extract values from the Destinations column
in Lookup2 and add items to Lookup3 based on each country and set Title to current item: ID.
Lookup1:
Title (Single line of text)
Lookup2:
Title (Single line of text), Destinations (Lookup; Get information from: Lookup1 in Title column).\
Lookup3:
Title (Single line of text), Country (Single line of text).
Important action
1. Loop Shape: SharePoint Designer 2013 support two types of loops: loop n times and loop with condition.
Loops must also conform to the following rules:
Loops must be within a stage, and stages cannot be within a loop.
Steps may be within a loop.
Loops may have only one entry and one exit point.
2. Utility Actions: It contains many actions, such as ‘Extract Substring from Index of String’ and ‘Find substring in String’.
Three scenarios
We need to loop through the string returned from the look up column and look for commas. There are three
scenarios:
1. No comma but string is non-empty so there is only one country.
2. At least one comma so there is at least two or more countries to loop.
3. In the loop we have consumed all the commas so we have found the last country.
Things to note
There are two things to note:
1. "Find string in string (output to Variable:index)" will return -1 if doesn't find
the searched for string.
2. In the opening statement "Set Variable: Countries to Current Item:Destinations" set the return
field as "Lookup Values, Comma Delimited".
Steps to create Workflow
Create a custom list named Lookup1.
Create a custom list named Lookup2, add column: Destinations (Lookup; Get information from: Lookup1 in Title column).
Create a custom list named Lookup3, add column: Country (Single line of text).
Create a workflow associated to Lookup2.
Add conditions and actions:
Start the workflow automatically when an item is created.
Add item to Lookup2, then workflow will be started automatically and create multiple items to lookup3.
See the below in workflow History List:
How to merge values to a multi-value enabled column and add item to another list based on the

For example, they have three lists as below. They want to find duplicate values in the Title column in
Lookup3 and merge country column to a multi-value enabled column and then add item to lookup2 and set the Title to Current Item: Title.
Lookup1:
Title (Single line of text)
Lookup3:
Title (Single line of text), Country (Single line of text).
Lookup2:
Title (Single line of text), Test (Single line of text).
Important actions
"Call HTTP Web Service"
action: In SharePoint 2013 workflows, we can call a web service using a new action introduced in SharePoint 2013 named Call HTTP Web Service. This action
is flexible and allows you to make simple calls to a web service easily, or, if needed, you can create more complex calls using HTTP verbs as well as allowing you to add HTTP headers.
“Build Dictionary"
action:
The Dictionary variable type is a new variable type in the SharePoint 2013 Workflow.
The following are the three actions specifically designed for the Dictionary variable type: Build Dictionary, Count Items in a Dictionary and Get an Item from a Dictionary.
The "Call HTTP Web Service" workflow action would be useless without the new "Dictionary" workflow action.
Things to note
The
HTTP URI is set to https://sitename/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('listname')/items?$orderby=Id%20desc and the HTTP method is set to “GET”. Then the list will be sort by Id in descending order.
Use Get
d/results(0)/Id form
Variable: ResponseContent (Output to
Variable: maxid) to get the Max ID.
Use Set
Variable: minid to Current List:ID to get the Min ID.
Use Copy from
Variable: destianation , starting at
1 (Output to
Variable: destianation) to remove the space.
Steps to create Workflow
Create a custom list named Lookup1.
Create a custom list named Lookup2, add column: Test (Single line of text).
Create a custom list named Lookup3, add column: Country (Single line of text).
Create a workflow associated to Lookup3.
Add a new "Build Dictionary" action
to define the http request header:
Add a Call HTTP Web Serviceaction, click on
this and paste your http request.
To associate the
RequestHeader variable, select the Call action property,
set the
RequestHeaders property to
RequestHeader:
In the Call action, click on
response and associate the response to a new
variable: ResponseContent (of type Dictionary).
After the Call action add Get item from Dictionary action to get the Max ID.
Add Set Workflow Variable action to get the Min ID.
Add Loop Shape (Loop with Condition) to get all the duplicate titles and integrate them to a string.
Create item in Lookup2.
The final Stage should look like this:
Start the workflow automatically when an item is created.
Add item to Lookup3, then workflow will be started automatically and create item to lookup2.
See the below in workflow History List:

http://sergeluca.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/calling-the-sharepoint-2013-rest-api-from-a-sharepoint-designer-workflow/GREAT info, but it may be helpful to note that when replacing a portion of the variable "Countries" with a whitespace character, you may cause the workflow to fail in a few specific cases (certain lookup fields will not accept this and will automatically
cancel). I only found this out when recreating your workflow on a similar, but much more complex list set.
To resolve this issue, I used another utility action (Extract Substring from Index of List) to clear out the whitespace. I configured it as "Copy from
Variable: Countries, starting at
1 (Output to Variable: Countries), which takes care of this issue in those few cases.
Otherwise, WOW! AWESOME JOB! Thanks! :) -
How Can I get multi column values from dynamic search help?
Hi Gurus;
I'm using dynamic search help in my program.
I want to get multi column values from search help. But I dont know solution for this issue.
I'm using F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST FM.
How Can I get multi column values from dynamic search help?
Thanks.Believe it or not, the same FM worked for me in a dynpro. I will try to explain here how it works in custom screen and then you can do your work for other screens or program types. I am not going to write my actual work but will explain in general.
I have 4 fields (FLD1, FLD2, FLD3, FLD4) and i made the search based on FLD2 and when user click on a line (could be any field), then this would bring the line on to the screens.
There are like 3 steps.
You have your value_tab for my fields FLD1, FLD2, FLD3 and FLD4. This is just the data that we pass into the FM. (data: IT_VALTAB type table of ZVAL_TABLE)
Next map the screen fields into an internal table (data: It_dynpfld type table of dselc ). I also have other internal tables defined (just to keep it straight, i will be putting here) data: It_return type standard table of ddshretval.
Next step is to call the function module. Make sure you have values in IT_VALTAB.
call function 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST'
exporting
retfield = 'FLD2'
value_org = 'S'
tables
value_tab = It_VALTAB
return_tab = It_return
dynpfld_mapping = It_dynpfld

else.
perform get_selected_fields tables It_return.
endif.
The code within the perform GET_SELECTED_FIELDS - We need to map the result fields after user selects it. The code goes like this. This is step is to update the dynpro fields.
I need a internal table as well as a work area here. like,
data: lt_fields type table of dynpread,
la_fields type dynpread.
field-symbols: <fs_return> type ddshretval.
so fill out LT_FIELDS from the IT_RETURN table
loop at lt_return assigning <fs_return>.
la_fields-fieldname = <fs_return>-retfield.
la_fields-fieldvalue = <fs_return>-fieldval.
append la_fields to lt_fields.
clear: la_fields.
endloop.
Call the FM to update the dynpro
call function 'DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE'
exporting
dyname = sy-repid
dynumb = '1002' "This is my screen number. You could use 1000 for selection screen (hope so)

How to derive Budget Period from Delivery date in PR/PO
Hello Gurus,
I have activated the Budget Period functionality in FM (BCS). I am deriving the budget period from Posting date but in case of PR/PO I want to derive it from Delivery date instead of Document/Posting Date.I know it is not possible while standard derivation. Could any one help me with some suggestion like if I can use some exit/BaDI in MM. Also I am creating a PM order and at the time of release of PM order system creates the PR in background hence I need to know some kind of exit/BADI which can be called to update the Budget Period field in PR.
Thanks in Advance!
Regards
Rohit GoelHello Eli,
I have one more query to ask on the above scenario.
The scenario is my delivery date in PO is say July but I did good issue in May hence the Budget Period should be May and not july in my GR and IV.
Now when I am doing GR in May then system is showing the Budget Period as July in GR document but in FM Document it is populating as May. I have defined a derivation strategy to derive budget period from posting date so may be because of that.
But when I am doing IV then it is again moving the amount from May to July. It may be right behaviour that system is deriving all the account assignment from Source document but is there any way to overwrite.
I have defined the derivation strategy with the condition that overwrite with new value if already written (Deriving from Posting Date to Budget Period).
Please guide me on this if possible.
Thanks in Advance

Return data from all columns apart from a certain data type.
Bit stuck on something, hope somebody here can help:
I want to do a 'select * from ' a table, to return all columns except ones of a certain datatype. ie. I want to return data from all columns, excluding columns of datatype 'SDO_GEOMETRY'.
This gives me the list of columns:
SELECT COLUMN_NAME
FROM USER_TAB_COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'ORDER_ITEM'
AND DATA_TYPE <> 'SDO_GEOMETRY'; But I can't seem to take it any further...
Now if I knew the columns beforehand, then of course I could just list them, excluding the geometry column, but this is to be used for a plug-in for MS Word, where a user can pick database columns to dynamically fill a report from - but I don't want the geometry columns as these can't be handled in this way.Hi Reggie,
> connects to the database and presents a list of tables
My guess is that this macro is written so it selects from all_tab_cols.
Change that plugin and let it select from a view like the one above. That way, the users won't be able to see/pick anything that you are not able/willing to present for them.
Edit:
You could even tease your users, and let them see the columns, but not being able to pick them.
create or replace view available_tab_columns
as
select decode(pickable.data_type, null, 0, 1) pickable
,atc.* -- narrow down yourself
from all_tab_cols atc -- or maybe user_tab_cols
,(select 'CHAR' data_type from dual union all
select 'DATE' from dual union all
select 'NUMBER' from dual
-- complete positive list, yourself
) pickable
where atc.data_type = pickable.data_type(+);Regards

I am looking for a way to essentially import a select group of values from one table into another. If, for instance, I have a list of names in Column A and a list of colors in Column B, I would like to be able to compile a list of the names which coincide with each distinct color, and do so in a new table specific to that color. Probably an obvious solution, but I'm a relative newbie with Numbers and my spreadsheet experience is fairly limited so I apologize if this is embarrassingly rudimentary. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
You can extract a subset in a separate table by adding a helper index column to your table with the original data and using a formula in the separate table.
But first, have you tried just using a filter on the table to view a subset of the data? You would simply filter on a color in your Column B and would immediately see the names specific to that color in Column A. And you could copy-paste those names elsewhere as needed. No extra columns. No formulas. No fuss.
