Deserialization not creating default objects

Question

I have a class which contains some fields which should not be serialized. I've marked them as transient.
These fields are currently being assigned values before construction. However, when I create an instance of this class by deserializing an instance of this object, my transient fields are not being initialized. Is this suppoed to be happening? My non transient fields are being initialized fine.

I think, though, that if you are deserializing a
class whose superclass is nonserializable, then that
superclass must have a no-argument constructor, and
that constructor will in fact be invoked during the
deserialization.As demonstrated in this simple test program:
