Design Capture of AS400 "Database" Files

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with the Desaign Capture of AS400 file information. We are using Designer 6/6i and we have the Transparent Gateway running on the AS400. We can access and download data from the AS400 easily because the the Transparent Gateway makes files look like ORACLE tables. But we cannot seem to connect using Designer.
Any help would be appreciated.

I read some place that sql loader doesn't support filemaker. You might have to export FMP to access than to Oracle. PowerDesigner might help also.
Sorry not much help.

  • E-R Design Capture for a Database.

    Hi.
I am using oracle 8.1.7, and all the tables for my application is owned by a user
    newscott.
Now I want to create E-R diagram for my application in other words reverse engineering.
which all tools I will need to do this.
and which steps I have to follow.
I will appreciate it very much for the
    help provided .

    Sachin,
The Design Editor is the place to start. Reverse engineer your tables into the Designer Repository. From there you can then do a table to entity retrofit. This is a simple one to one mapping and will require further manual work to arrive at the true logical data model.

  • Designer10g R2 Design Capture of SQL Server DDL file Failed

I have been using Designer 10g R2 to design capture Oracle Database Schema into the Server Model Diagram with no problems at all.
I have a SQL Server 2005 exported DDL file into an ASCII text file. I then import the DDL script into the Server Model Diagram but ERRORs.
I use SQL Server 2005 to import the DDL script and then create an ODBC to connect to the SQL Server. I can then design capture the SQL Server schema into Designer.
What has gone wrong? Does Designer 10g R2 support design capture from SQL Server DDL file directly to Designer?
By the way, if I want to generate MySQL DDL script or design capture MySQL DDL script into Designer, how could this be done as there is no ODBC driver for MySQL?

  • Design capture of report files of type .sql

Hope someone would be kind enough to help me out here.
I'm trying to reengineer some report files using Oracle designers (release 6) Design Capture facilities. The facilities allow me to capture report files of type '.rdf' but it does not allow me to capture report files of type '.sql '.
Would you know a way i can capture these files into the repository. Whats the trick? if any.

    Hi,
First of all put an exception block and see what exact exeption it is throwing and then post that exception. You also have to check wheather you have created a directory and it has sufficient privileges.
create or replace procedure verify as
    declare
    ACTIVITY_FILE UTL_FILE.FILE_TYPE;
    log varchar2(600);
    begin
    ACTIVITY_FILE := UTL_FILE.fopen('/dacscan/Mani',log,'W');
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN others THEN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(SQLCODE||SQLERRM);
    end;

  • Database Design Capture

I've got an interesting/frustrating exercise ahead of me next week, as I attempt to perform a design capture/reverse engineer of a third-party application. I had many unhappy times try this with Designer 6i, and now "the powers that be" have decided that Designer 9i needs evaluating for it's design capture capabilities.
The package that's being captured is SCT's BANNER Student Management System (don't worry, we're licenced to do this!), and I wondered if any of my fellow Designer jockeys had any advice or hints-and-tips to offer? BTW, there's about 1800 tables, and several hundred views and packages involved.
    Thanks.

    Hi Andrew,
My initial advice is to perform the design capture in
stages: Designer won't lose sight of the relationships
etc you are capturing. Breaking it up into a few more
manageable stages helps to reduce potential problems.
We often get similar questions and there are a few old
postings here on the forum with some good advice. The
Designer online help also contains a lot of topics on
    each stage of the process.
Try searching the forum. I also hope some of our other members out ther can offer some tips. Anyone..!?
I'll see if I can find any useful posts too.

  • Can I sync database files over to Mobile Me and then from MobileMe to iPod?

Many programs will allow you to sync over Mobile Me and but not over a USB connection. Can I sync the files on my Mac to Mobile Me and then sync them to my iPod when I am somewhere that has a WiFi connection? I am asking this because the place I work does not have WiFi and I need to have a WiFi connection to sync database files (such as OmniFocus, Billings, and Bento.)

"I hope they fix this in a later update."
I don't think that it is broken. I think that it is intentional ( by design). Possibly to make it more difficult to use ipod touch to pirate/steal music/movies/etc.
The ipod touch and iphone have never had this feature.
    Who knows?

  • Problems in setup of designer 6i against 9i database

    hello there,
i did installed 9i database on NT4 operating system and it is running very well. then i installed developer 6i on WIN98 second edition and make a connection between developer and server and they are running and working well.
then i installed designer 6i on win98se and tried to create the repository over 9i database, then the creation failed due to missing views,i opened the two scripts that create these views and put the word constraints between two qutes and regenerated the views again.the two files are (cdwidevw, cdrootvw).
there is no missing objects, but when i tried to open the designer tools it asked me about a workarea when i tried to create a new one the system gives me errors in some installed packages " the package body of them are compiled with error"
such as: ciiexp ,ck_fdtree,jr_name and jr_rm_ins the errors was in difference in the default values defined in backage spec and package body.
but still a package i couldn't fix it named "ck_fdtree".
till now i can not work with the installed designer with the 9i database.
    the designer version is 6.5.52.5.0
    repository 6i product 6.5.52.5.0
    and 9i database release 1
how can i make them work together ??

    Hi Mostafa,
The Designer/Repository 6i versions you refer to (6.5.52.x) are not
    supported on Oracle9i.
Using a 6i client and 9i repository together, or vice versa, is NOT
supported. You should use Oracle9i Designer for a 9i repository (or
    a Designer 6i client for a 6i respository).
Secondly, Oracle9i Designer is NOT supported on Win98. Please see the
Designer Certification Matrix (Note 60705.1), available on Metalink
    for more information.
    Hope this helps.

  • Accessing the same database file using different handles/cursors

Will there be any problems accessing the same database file using different DB handles in a transactional environment? We have implemented a process which have multiple transient threads coming up and initiating DB opens and read/write operations to the same database file using different handles and cursors?
Can this potentially create any problems/bottlenecks? Can someone suggest the best way to deal with this scenario?
    Thanks in advance.
    SB

    Hi,
Berkeley DB is well suited to the scenario you describe. You need to ensure that Berkeley DB is configured correctly for transactional access, the best information describing the requirements is in the Reference guide here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/programmer_reference/transapp.html
If there will be multiple threads operating concurrently, then you will need to design your application to detect and deal with deadlock situations.

  • Identify database file usage

I would like to identify over the last X seconds how much data has been written and read from each database file by SPID, is this possible? I want gather information on our busiest files and processes.
Id like to be able to do this in TSQL rather than using profiler.

    Hi Jameslester,
We can capture the information about reading and writing transaction log file via DMV or SQL Server Profiler when your perform any database activity. We will run a few DML scripts to check how data insertion, updating or deletion is logged in the database
log file. During this operation you can also track how a page is allocated or de-allocated. For example, page splits like how many times page splits occur, on which page and during which operation. However, personally, we could not
identity how much data has been written and read from database file in the last X seconds by using T-SQL.
There is more information about how to read the SQL Server Database Transaction Log, you can review the following article.

  • File.ftp.FTPEx: 501 Unexpected reply codeUnknown extension in database file name

    Hi Folks,
I am trying to place file in the iSeries library folder and for this I am using a receiver file adapter with the following config, FYI, I am not using any FCC
    Target Directory : /QSYS.LIB/XXXXX.LIB/
    File Name Scheme : FILENAME.FILE
As I am doing this config for the first time I am using the following SCN discussion as my reference,
File FTP to AS400 Library folder | SCN
but i am still getting the error message at the receiver channel as below
Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server 'XXXXXX:21'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 501 Unexpected reply codeUnknown extension in database file name.'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
Please let me know if anyone has anymore suggestions.

    Hi Kalyan,
The File Name extension that you configured is incorrect I think.  Can you try to change the extension to .txt and try once.
    File Name Scheme : FILENAME.FILE
    Thanks,

  • Designer 10.1.2.02: failed using batch design capture

    Hi,
running Oracle 10g on Solaris server release 9, and Designer on Windows XP SP1.
I tried to capture the current database model but it always failed with a windows error.
The report contains the following data:
    AppName: dwzrun61.exe     AppVer: 101.2.6.18     ModName: domdll61.dll
    ModVer: 101.2.6.18     Offset: 00013b4a.
Do anybody knows the reason of such error ?
Do I need special patch to my service pack ?

Designer 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2) is certified with Windows XP SP2. [Check metalink for complete certification information] Assuming that your installation is not corrupt and other Designer tools are working correctly, you could try installing SP2.

  • Reg Design Capture

    HI,
i tried to capture an existing database which is really huge.
my machine had gone for a task.what are the prerequistes for capturing an existing database and what is the system configuration needed for this task?
    help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dinesh

    Hi All,
    Thanks for the reply.
    let me explain the requirement
My client wants to capture on real time basis, at the time of entering A/P Invoice we need to capture information from a web cam, the image of the Lorry alongwith Entry time and date, Exit time and date and default information which needs to be captured in SAP (like Item code, Qty, WarehouseCode, Tax etc).
As i said already, currently the process is to first capture the image and save as a file then link the image in SAP for the UDF type as u2018Generalu2019, Structure as u2018Imageu2019.
Gordon: Can you be little more clear on what you had suggested?
Please suggest whether we can take the image from SAP itself and save the file into SAP specified folder.
    Regards

  • Want to allow designated clients to upload pdf files to a designated page on my cs4 website

want to allow designated clients to upload pdf files to a designated page on my cs4 website. want those files to be live on that page when their upload is complete. this is so I dont have to receive their file and upload it myself.
    appreaciate the help.

Everything you have described can be done using PHP (assuming your website is on an apache server). There are three separate "sub-projects" to your overall project:
    1. Log-in system. Secrity is an issue here. There are several ways to accomplish this.
    2. File upload routine.
    3. Display of directory contents in a dynamic webpage.
Fortunately, each of these tasks is explained in the book PHP Solutions, by David Powers. It even presents several different methods for handling the log-in password routine and security. Since your project doesn't require a database, you will want to choose a password storage method that doesn't require one.
The way I would handle this is to create a directory for each client. Maybe the directory name will be the client's ID, like 27, 28, etc. Then the upload routine will use a varible based on the client id, so it will put the right client's files in the right directory.
Overall, this is not a very difficult project, especially if you get the Power's book and read through the appropriate chapters.

  • Should I care about "Damaged Database" files in ~/Library/Syndication/ ?

    Hi, friends —
    I haven't used RSS much.
I'm curious: What is the purpose of the database files contained in the ~/Library/Syndication folder — and is there any reason to save the several "Damaged" Database files that are retained there?
At the moment, this folder contains a "Database3" and four "Damaged" Databases (~old), one of which is labeled "Broken." Each file is ~8–20 MB.
From the name and contents (I opened and perused a "Damaged Database" file using TextEdit), I'm guessing these are associated with RSS...?
    Thanks!
    Dean

Hi, macjack and Dr. Smoke —
Muchas gracias to you both for your thoughtful replies!
I'd just finished restarting my eMac after removing the Damaged Databases to my desktop per macjack's suggestion when I saw your message, Dr. Smoke. Thanks for your analysis and for the citation.
I had also searched the KnowledgeBase (9 results) and ADC (3) for resources on syndication, but hadn't had a chance yet to read the Safari RSS Developer Release Note. As you've noted, it comes to the point of my question —
Quoting from the Note for anyone who stumbles across this thread and is interested:
    "Purging the Database
Safari RSS stores all news articles in a database. There is not yet any mechanism to control how long articles live, or to delete articles on demand, so the database will grow monotonically.
If the database is taking up too much disk space, you can use the following workaround to delete it. You won't lose any of your subscription data (that's stored in Safari's bookmarks) and the SyndicationAgent will re-fetch all current articles the next time it runs, but older articles will be lost.
        1.   Quit Safari.
        2.   Quit the SyndicationAgent process by entering "killall SyndicationAgent" in a Terminal window.
        3.   Move the directory ~/Library/Syndication to the Trash, or delete it."
    [Emphasis added.]
Thanks for pointing out the potential for growth of this database; it may be worth keeping an eye on for some folks — depending on RSS usage, I guess. Seems an odd design concept to me.
My current Database3 file covers ~ the last 9 weeks — but this may not be comparable to others', since I haven't too big a collection of RSS feeds.
I was ~surprised to find so little documentation about SyndicationAgent on Apple's website (no Man page, etc.). Does that color me naïve?
I scanned through my (Text-archived) log files without finding any close correlations between SyndicationAgent or Safari entries and these databases (in terms of time). Since the latest "Damaged Database" file is dated 4-½ months ago, this issue isn't a big concern — as I said, just curious...
    Thanks again!
    Warm regards,
    Dean
I edited this message...   But probably not enough!

  • Why did the latest update (31.1.2) delete database files for primary email account in profile?

After restarting TB to apply the 31.1.2 update, all of the database files for my primary email account were apparently deleted. Restarting TB again got it to start syncing with the IMAP server again, but it has to download around 100,000 messages again because of this. Was this a design decision or is there a problem with the update itself? And why did it only affect my primary email account and leave the other 4 (much smaller ones) unscathed?

Account5 is the one affected which is still attempting to sync. It also appears that my sync choices were altered without permission or notification. I always keep the Deleted folder and the POP subfolder from Hotmail accounts disabled since it is merely duplicating content in other folders. When re-checking the sync settings because it was taking so long, I found that the POP subfoler was selected for sync again.
The crash report is from a later TB crash, the first one ever on this system.
    3. Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition, Cox Communications (shouldn't matter whatsoever), the affected account is Hotmail/Outlook.com, unaffected accounts: 2 GMail, 1 Yahoo, 1 CenturyLink
