Designing Dynamic FAQ Pages for website

I created an FAQ page for a website at work using the Spry
Collapsible Panels. Everything is working great but I would like to
put in the + and - sign to show when a panel is opened or closed.
This design is on the Adobe FAQ pages. Can anyone explain how you
do this function? Is a graphic used and then coded in the
Javascript? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your requirement isn't very clear here.
Do you meant that is userA is trying to logon, he must see different logon pages at different tims he tries to logon?
Thanks Hermann, I too was thinking about the same...just need to have some clarity on what really needs to be achieved. Also unless the whole logon page needs to be different then cookies are best -- if its just some images then some javascript would be good enough.

Sign in page for website in development

I was wondering if ADDT could be used to create a blank sign in page for a website beta for clients to sign in without the rest of the world seeing it...

That should be fairly easy to do using ADDT's User Login Server Behaviors. You can configure the Login Settings at the ADDT Control Panel. There are a lot of options and I use these behaviors often.

So you would create a page with the user login and that would redirect your user to the website beta file/folder on a successful login.
You would also use the "Restrict Access To Page" ADDT User Login Server Behavior. This will make sure others can't get to your pages by typing in the URL directy into the browser. The only drawback here is that all your pages would need to be .php and not .html
Another option is to use your web hosting control panel to restrict access to a folder on your site that contains your website beta. This would be the easiest because you would not have to add code to all the pages to restrict access. Your server would require a username and password when someone goes to that address(example: www.mysite.com/websitebeta).
Unfortunately, the ability to do this depends on your hosting package, so you would need to check that in your hosting control panel. The drawback here might be that you would have to give everyone the same username and password to use. Otherwise you have to add lots of users to your server hosting directy and that might be an issue.
If you use ADDT's user login behaviors, you can gather lots of information about the users activity in your user login stats table. Also, if your website is going to have user accounts anyways, this would be the way to go.
If you just want a simple login to showoff a website, I would give everyone the same user/pass and try to restrict access to a folder using your hosting's control panel. That would much simpler for this scenario.

Do I need to design on just one page for a scrolling "single page design?

Hi I want to design a single page scrolling website but I have quite a bit of content. In Adobe Muse tutorials such as this one: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/adobe-muse-layers-panel-may-2013/ it looked like she was designing multiple pages but the preview shows it functioning as one long page. I understand how to use anchors and pins but do I have to design my whole website on one long page or am I able to design seperate pages and "stack them" if you will?

I am not a complete expert on this, but I have been using Muse since Day 1 and I believe that you do need to create the site on a single page if you want it to scroll with pins and anchors.
It is possible to create an anchor on a separate page, but would not have the scrolling effect that you describe. It looks more like you're just loading a second page.

Home Page for EP6.0 SP9

Hi,
We are in process of designing the Home Page for our EP version 6.0 SP 9.
Our design of Default Page looks like the Home page of the http://service.sap.com
When we use the MIME Objects and the Links on this page, it has to route to the corresponding Iview/Page (URL derived from the User ROle).
Is there any weblog / Guide avilable for developing the Page which has the links to the IViews as the URLS derived dynamically.

In EP6 SP2, if you remember, we used method like

And this message something used to get printed in the Portal_Logger in the Loggin Console in Monitoring in System Admin.
Now can you please exaplin in detail, like what happens now in SP11/SP9 in would write the same statement. Where will this message get printed?
Atually our problem is that we have migrated from SP2 to SP11. We used the above code for debugging if any error occured in whole of the PAR file. I have also heard that these are some new loggin/tracing API's but we now cannot change the whole code for this reason. So i would like to know where will the above code write and how to see that easily.
You have mentioned abt the .trc files but they are too many in number. Can i have the logs in only one file?How?
Also can you please explain in detail, what is the best & fast (java developer's viewpoint) method to use logger with SP11. And i would also highly appreciate if you explain the new logger methods with some simple sample code and steps for configuration.

Do Web pages for phones have to be Apps?

I do not own a mobile phone that is web enabled, and I never designed a web page for phones, but now due to the steep learning curve, I need a quick fix.
Reading the help in Dreamweaver 5.5, there is lots of information about creating the best mobile sites, though at the moment, I don't understand a lot of it - but that's my fault.
However, when I use someone else's phone to look at most existing sites that are just designed for computers to view, the phone has facilities that make the sites available.
Lots of zooming and such which is a pain, but you usually can view them.
It occurred to me that perhaps there is a position mid way between a stock web site and a fully fledged phone app could be a stop gap solution until the whole mess of media queries, and other phone related stuff is understood.
My suggested solution is as follows:
Provide seperate sets of pages for both types at suitable sizes ( max 320 wide for mobiles).
Keep all graphics for phone pages to a minimum size and well optimised to allow for quick page loading.
1.On the index page of the site, put a large link to the phone pages and one to the computer pages so that its easily seen by phone users
2. Design the index page and all phone pages so that the content would fit on a 320 pixel wide screen.
3. Have the first page after the index purely as the menu screen, with a list of links.
4. Each link leads to a deck of stacked pages that that are serially linked back and forth, with a "return to first page" on each one, with the navigation being at the bottom (or the top?) of the page.
To view pages, the phone user would have to select the phone link on the site's index page, then select from the menu to get to the first page of a topic. He can then flick through the linked set of pages and go back to the menu from any. The pages would fit most mobile phones, and no phone specific stuff wopuld be needed.
I appreciate that this method would not provide the most sparkling of mobile web sites, and would require two sets of pages, which is a maintenance problem, but it ought to help phone users to surf my site until I can get up to speed with the mobile stuff.
Question is - would it work?

FAQ Pages - Best Way to set up with Muse

I need to design an FAQ page. What is the best way to format it? What are my options?

In order to design a FAQ page in Muse, the simplest way could be by using the Featured News widget available. Refer to the below screenshot with settings that should work for you and give a nice feel to it using the various transition options available.
Another alternative would be using link Anchors so you can have all the questions listed somewhere at the top of the page one after another (just like a normal FAQ page we see on any site) and link their answers with the help of the anchor tag somewhere around at the bottom. So now when somebody clicks on Question 1, he would be smoothly scrolled down to Answer 1. Refer to the screenshot below.

I am working on concept of anonymous user. For this I have created a Anon user group and it is working succesfully . Now i have to design a Logon page for this group of users.

The portal provides a form of anonymous logon with u2018namedu2019 anonymous users. Named anonymous users are users that exist either in the user data store or as service users. You configure the names of these users in the UME properties. These users are automatically assigned to the group Anonymous Users. You can assign roles containing anonymous content to the users individually or to the group Anonymous Users.

Free 20Mb database for website

Hi,
I can see how to add a Free 20Mb SQL database to Windows Azure Mobile service. Can I create a free 20Mb SQL database for website use, I see it is detailed on the pricing page for websites, but I cannot see any option in the management portal in the websites
section or the database section to create this / these 20Mb SQL databases.
Update: I can also see how to link to the DB created in the mobile service in the Linked Resources. So not a hinderance I guess, just not intuitive to me.
I'm probably missing something simple :-(

Ok so here is how i did it!
Create Mobile Service with a free 20MB database. I used North Europe
Create an application in Visual Studio (select host in Azure and ensure authentication is selected)
Publish your site and ask it to create a website in azure for you
When publishing your site, in the settings section, you can insert a DB connection string there. Ensure the site is created in the same region as the database else your site will be slower and you will be charged for bandwidth (i found this out in
azure when playing around with creating a mobile service and database)
Go into azure and select your database then "show connection strings"
Copy the string, put your password in and paste into visual studio before publishing.
Test it and it should work. If it doesn't, in Azure, you can add a firewall rule in the same window you copied the db connection string from.
Publish your site
In Azure, go to your website then select linked services and ensure ONLY your free database is in there. I found it sometimes creates a GB database. You don't want that in there as it charges you as you populate it.
Then again in your website area, go to "Configure" and scroll down to connection strings
Paste your conn string in there as well as a key value. The key being the conn string name in visual studio web.config and the value being the conn string
Thats all I did and it works.

To view reports in new page for each cutomer using Report Designer

HI all
I have a requirement to view the data (key figures) for each customer in a new page.
I have created the same using the Report Designer tool.
Now there is setting for this Group Header 'Customer' i have selected the option 'repeat group header on each page'
still the query when generated, gives fine results for certain cases but not for all.
like it will show the each customers in a fresh page for some pages , then in midst there would some 2-3 customers in the same page.
There is no relation between these customers , they are same as the other customers, no difference at all.then i am not able to figure out the reason why it is behaving so odd.

right now there really is no way to solve what you are looking for. There partial solutions, but you will not be able to force a page break in a dynamic report.
Here is what I have faced, and what I have come up with so far:
I have a series of reports that have the same column heading, but spread over 5 pages in a fixed structure. I need to be able to re-use the header and the general report design with 6 reports. Here is my solution:
1. Create an outline of the report. I did all the formatting by creating a report section for each page. You can force page breaks between the pages. Upgrade to patch 1502 (came out last week) and you will see some new functionality (such as fit to page, page numbers, etc).
2. Insert all you page breaks and do all the formatting.
3. Insert an infoprovider. Once in, you can just drag and drop the key figure cells into your formatted report.
4. Create additional modification for formatting as needed.
This fixes my problem (for now), but I had to do a lot of work to come up with this. Also, the latest patch (1501 and 1502) has created an issue for me - there is a null exception when I try to use a variable or a filter value in the report body - I can't save the report. I have an OSS message out, but our BASIS guys are going to be taking the lead on troubleshooting this.
The reason that you are seeing some customers on the new pages is probably because of "how the cookie falls" - they just fit that way.
I am trying to be positive and overcome the limitations that are in place right now. If my technical issue is solved, I would recommend upgrading to the new patch (1403 is the latest stable one in my opinion)

Most likely, but it could be any page in your site.
Don't people usually add an additional page to a website for people to see?
Not always. It depends on what you want this for.
Use File > New > HTML page to create a new site page with text, images and navigation on it. SaveAs some_filename.html
If all you're doing is linking your home page to a full size image, you don't need to create a new page for that. Just link to the full-size image file.

Is it wise to chage site design from multiple page to single page scrollable design for SEO?

I have a current site with multiple pages created in Muse. From watching some tutorials I am beginning to believe that converting the site to a one page scrollable format would be more applicable for table and mobile applications. My questions are these:
By adding anchor points and links to the stacked pages will this act the same as independent pages for SEO, or will I lose all of the current web traction I have earned and be starting over?
Is it commonly accepted that by converting to a one page format that it will be easier for search crawlers to rank my site?

Single page websites can be great for new sites or for some special projects, but I won't recommend them as long-term solutions and, if you already have a multi-page website, I do not recommend switching to a single-page site.
If your single page site has great content and good structure, google might provide same treatment as it does for various sub pages website.

Search engines will index all the pages of your website, providing multiple opportunities for your site to come up in searches. When your site consists of only one page, a single page is exactly what you’ll have indexed.
That means if you have many services, many products, single page design will really compromise your rank and result in search engine.

You can do this using a meta refresh but the problem is you have to add it to the html file for the page very time you publish changes.
A better way is to create a splash page and upload it to the server outside of the folder produced by iWeb. Example HERE.
The meta refresh is added to the head section of the html file...

But essentiall, you will need to create a table, place each URL in its own row, Tap the header to select the column, and select Sort (ascending).
