Desktop App as a Web App

Hi!
Just curiousity, is it possible to make an application that
basically made as an AIR (desktop) App be viewed as a Web
Application? (somehow embed into .html and get all its properties,
functionalities).

The difference between an AIR application and a browser
application is very small. Take a look at the Adobe training video
on this subject.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/videotraining/?sdid=DYOCT
In particular, the last part of day three. It's quite clear
and you can download the test setup for free. Be careful! I believe
that the Flex Builder configuration info is out of date, because
the paths for installation of LCDS have changed. I found a fix.
My notes, maybe a bit cryptic:
Make sure when you install LCDS, choose the Tomcat option.
This will install the server application.
If you're using the new version LiveCycle Data Services ES
2.6, you'll have to adjust a few things:
When you install LCDS, click the Tomcat option and continue
with the installation.
Instead of unzipping to C:\lcds\jrun4\servers\default.. use
this folder to unzip the server.zip file instead to
C:\lcds\tomcat\webapps\odt
Original adobe forum post:

Also, instead of using port 8700, the new version uses 8400.
1. Start the Server: Programs > LiveCycle Data Services ES
2.6 > Start LiveCycle Data Services Server. Allow the server to
start up.
2. Point your browser to
http://localhost:8400/ to test
the start page.
3. Your URL for this example will be
http://localhost:8400/odt/
Flex
I found that in many places you cannot use $(ENV_VARIABLE)
successfully.
Enter the exact string.
c:/lcds/tomcat/webapps/odt - for the training apps
Always, instead of /lcds/jrun4/servers/default/odt, use
/lcds/tomcat/webapps/odt
Start the data base
cd c:/lcds/sampledb
startdb.bat
LCDS local URL
http://localhost:8400/odt/adobeODT-debug/AdobeODT.html

  • Blend for Visual Studio's HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor only usable for Windows 8 apps, NOT for web apps?

    Hi there,
In the process of learning Visual Studio (VS) and ASP.NET, I initially thought that I could use Blend for VS's seemingly great HTML/CSS WYSIWYG editor to visually design the HTML pages and CSS for a web app developped with VS, whether it be with ASP.NET MVC
or Django (using Python Tools for Visual Studio).
But now it dawned on me that Blend for VS seems to only be meant to design HTML/CSS for native Windows
    8 apps, and not
    web apps.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed the case?
Thanks a lot in advance for clarifying this point for me.
PS: Maybe this a dumb newbie question, but from the outside, it seems rather counter-intuitive to offer a top-notch tool for web
standards (HTML/CSS) edition (Blend for VS), all integrated with a top-notch tool for web development (VS) but prohibiting the web developer community to leverage the productivity gains of both
the former and the integration. This is especially puzzling given that the latest components of the ASP framework (MVC, SPA projects):
    - Pushes for reliance on HTML elements and CSS instead of ASP elements and Skin files;
    - VS apparently also does not provide a visual design page view for ASP.MVC projects, which is sure to make many development teams wary of migrating from web forms to MVC.

I believe this the case, but I'm not familiar with asp.net development. As you point out: html is html so you can edit and copy the code. That said, the Windows Store apps forums are specifically about writing Windows Store apps. For discussion
of writing ASp.net apps and the best tools to use for that please post in the asp.net development forums on

  • Fusion Apps vs Fusion Web Apps

    hi folks.
yesterday in my workspace our colleague's start up with a worthy debate.. we may had contradictional points one another.. so please i would like to start the same..
    to be clearly and precisely...
Difference between Fusion Apps vs Fusion Web Apps.. from the core itself...
    thanks...

    Hi,
if you wanted this from the core, then you should have posted the question to teh right forum. This here is an Oracle JDeveloper and ADF forum and not an Oracle Applications forum (which also is here on OTN)

Posting this question to our forum here is like posting the same to the database forum ;-) We are not the core for this.

  • Link customer submitted web app to another web app

    Hi,
Just wondering if there is a way to insert data from one web app into another.
I have 2 web apps - one for business info (submitted and updated by the business), the other for recipes (submitted by the business).  They are both linked to the same user.
What I would like is on the page that displays the recipe submitted by a business for there to be a link that says Submitted by Business Name 1 and for Business Name 1 to link to their Business info page. And also on their business info page to have a link saying Recipe name 1 and for Recipe name 1 to link to their recipe page.
There will be hundreds of businesses so if this can be built into the web app and be automated that would be great without having to manually add the links to their business listing or recipe pages.
    Cheers

The only way I have managed this is to Extend the CRM and have duplicate fields and links. The CRM can be called when a web app is created. If that CRM has a business name and a link to the existing web app business, then they can be saved into the new web app. The tricky part is to encourage users to update their CRM with the appropriate fields.
Clumsy, but it works. I use it for connecting 'articles' and 'business listings' using the Authors name here: http://www.umbrellamag.com.au/view-umbrella-articles

  • Is iPhone email app or GMail web app better for gmail?

i'm a new iPhone user. i'm have a gmail account which i use almost exclusively through a web browser (i haven't synced it with Mail.app on my MacBook). setting up the iPhone i've used the default email app on the iPhone to check gmail (via POP). it seems to have started at the very first email i ever received 2 years ago and be downloading them in 50-message-at-a-time chunks. independently, i checked it via safari and used the iPhone Gmail web app (hoping that's the right term) which seems to have a fair amount of additional options (labels etc.).
has anyone got any guidance as to which is a better option?

I've used both but tend to stick with the Mail app so I can access both my mail accounts together. It's really up to you as to which you like better. You should change your GMail to IMAP instead of POP though... much better email handling and you'll never lose any emails.

  • Disable 'Apps' in Outlook Web App 2013

    Hello,
We have just finished a migration to Exchange 2013 and have noticed that within OWA users can install 'Apps' from the Office Store (click the Gear in the upper right hand corner and go to Manage Apps).
We would like to be able to disable the ability of a user to install these apps.  Can anyone point me to where in the ECP or a powershell command?
    Thank you,
    Matt

    Hello,
In exchange server, we can't do this.
But we can use Group Policy to manage how users can install and use apps for Office.

  • How do I add web app tags to web app fields and have them render correctly?

    - I have a webapp field entitled "Status".
    - I have a webapp fields entitles "Status-Listed".
    - I want to have a tag in the description field that is {tag_Status-{tag_Status}} to where if the Status field is set to Listed the result will be {tag_Status-Listed} and will return the value in the Status-Listed field.
    - It works, and returns the value:
    <h2>Listed</h2>{tag_county} County<br />{tag_firstname} {tag_lastname} | {tag_address1}, {tag_address2} {tag_city}, {tag_state} | {tag_zipcode} | {tag_phone}<br />{tag_status} | <em>
    - However, this will display as the text entered when the tag is rendered from Design view. If I place the code in the HTML view it will render each tag correctly. What I am seeking to do is apply four different types of stylings to the listing, as in Listed, Not Listed, Rejected, No Answer, etc. That way in my directory I can have the status determine the type of look each listing has based upon the Status field.
    Any thoughts from the community?

I am not sure I follow what you are explaining, but, I will try to give you an idea. Wrap all of your HTML in a div with a class of {tag_Status-{tag_Status}}. you can then style as necessary. However, if this involves hiding certain elements, then I would suggest using a custom template for each type of listing.

  • Using Office Web Apps Server with SharePoint Foundation 2013

I want to know whether I can configure Office Web Apps server to edit Excel documents on a SharePoint Foundation 2013 site.
I came across a TechNet article that states that "When used together with SharePoint Server 2013, Office Web Apps Server provides updated versions of Word Web App, Excel Web App, PowerPoint Web App, and OneNote Web App".
However, later in the same article, it states "If your organization licenses Office 2013 through a Volume Licensing program, you can enable Office Web Apps editing for SharePoint 2013 on-premises" (without mentioning Foundation or Server).

    Hi Lemesnil,
The Office Web App server should support the Edit licenses for SharePoin Foundation 2013, Office Web App is free to
download, you can also try installing and configuring in a test environment, see more from the below article applied to SharePoint Foundation 2013.

  • Can not open file download prompt in portal web app.

    Hi folks,
I am migrating existing Struts app into portal web app and currently stuck on the following problem.
In existing app, Struts action calls servlet that generates excel file, sets response headers:
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename=thename.csv");
that brings up "file download" prompt window.
In portal app, the same code writes excel file content into browser window instead of the prompt.
Has anyone had to deal with similar problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Alex.
Version of portal used is 8.1 SP5
    Struts - 1.1

Problem is resolved. For those who might be interested - specifying redirect=true on forward to servlet did the trick.

  • How do I add image upload to web app edit template?

How do I add image upload to web app edit template. When creating fields I am selecting image from the field type. But the only way to upload and image is when I create the web app item within the admin. The option to upload an image is not available when the user submit web form opens.

On the Details tab of the Web App setup, under Web App Item Options; have you ticked "Allow File Upload" and specified a Default Upload Folder?

  • Office Web Apps broken in IE11 after CU installation

We just installed the Oct 2013 CU and during testing found that Word and PowerPoint Office Web Apps now do not work in IE11 only. IE 8-10, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari all still display documents fine using Office Web Apps.  Excel Web App doesn't display
an error, but it also seems to have issues and doesn't always display the ribbon menu with IE11 only.
The error being displayed is "Sorry, we ran into a problem"
Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing or has seen a similar issue?
    Thanks.

  • Office Web Apps farm - how to make it high available

    Hi there,
I have deployed OWAs for Lync 2013 with two servers in one farm. When I was testing, e.g. the case when other server is down I found out the following error:
Log Name:      Microsoft Office Web Apps
    Source:        Office Web Apps
    Date:          17/03/2014 22:59:54
    Event ID:      8111

    Description:
A Word or PowerPoint front end failed to communicate with backend machine

Does that means, that OWAs cannot setup as high avaiable when using standalone OWAs only? Above error appeared when the server OWASrv01 was rebooting.
    Petri

    Hi Petri,
For your scenario, you have achieve a  high performance for your Office Web Apps farm but not high availability.
For performing a high availability Office Web Apps farm, you can refer to the blog:

  • Web Apps doesn't read Word, nor reads/edits Powerpoint, but allows read/edits Excel, Sharepoint 2010

I'll keep this short and sweet. Hopefully some light can be shed on my scenario and a solution.
I have a Server 2008 R2 with Sharepoint 2010 and Office Web Apps setup. The installations went off without a hitch, and I setup a Site Collection with several other children websites beneath it.
Currently, the three different file types have three different kinds of  behaviors. These behaviors are assuming the user has full control of the document from AD/Sharepoint's point of view.
Spreadsheets can be read in browser and edited in browser. Everything works fine here.
Word documents cannot be read from browser, but they can be edited normally like one would expect. After sitting there for ~two minutes, it gives the error: "Word Web App cannot open this document because the server is still processing the document."
PowerPoint doesn't let any user read or edit any presentation. When trying to read, it says "Either network connectivity has been lost or the server is too busy to service your request. Check your network connection." when trying to edit, it says
"PowerPoint web app encountered an error."
Odd. =/ What bothers me is that the behaviors aren't consistent, they differ among all three. If it were the same I'd think connectivity or permissions issues. Ie, content db only allows read, thus all 3 services only have read permissions on the db, that
sort of thing. To my understanding, during the installation the default pools/accounts were used("Sharepoint Web Services Default", "NT AUTHORITY\Network Service", etc).
This is what I've tried so far:
Back to square 1: Is it installed? Is it activated? Yes to both. It installed normally and it's activated in Site Collection(Site Col Admin -> Site Col Features -> OWA is active).
Restarted the PP and Word viewing services. No change. (I tried deleting the service app and making a new one with the same name, no dice. Also tried making sure the Word Vieweing Svc App was under the existing application pool, entitled "Sharepoint
Web Services Default". Even tried making a new application pool and having it under Predefined -> "Network Service", and trying other pools still got me nothing)
Under Manage Service Connections (App Management-> Manage Web Apps), the Word Viewing Service, Excel Service application, and PowerPoint Service application proxy were all checked(among the other things checked).
(One thread I saw on Sharepoint Stack Exchange said trying to change browser file handilng from strict to permissive didn't work either.)
What could be going on that's restricting those actions on Word/PP documents? Only potential thing that might be screwing things up is my SQL server that houses the content DB for my web app is on a different server than Sharepoint/OWA. I don't know what
would be interfering however. Is there a different permission set for the different OWA services? How would I check what OWA is using to connect to the content DBs(and which ones are they using, along with what permissions they have vs what they should have)?
Is there something I missed? Will uninstalling and reinstalling OWA help in any way(as long as I don't lose my documents!)?
Anything to get me at least on the right track would be appreciated, thanks =)

Anybody have any ideas at all? At this point I'm willing to try just about anything..
