Desktop for home computer

Can I have a desktop on my home computer, backup all info to it for my work blackberry without any conflicts?

Hi, I just post a new thread about this but you guys might be able to help. Do you see any issue with my using my PC and laptop to sync/backup etc my BBerry. I've only used the PC until now as I keep all my music etc there. I just think now that it'd be handy to have the device synced to the laptop as well.

My problem is the opposite. My desktop apparently removes the mail from the mail servers before my iPad can read it.
One of my email accounts is a POP account. mail has a setting to leave the mail on the server, but I can't see that it makes any difference. The mail going to that account still doesn't make it to my iPad. I also have an IMAP account, but I don't see a similar setting.
I would like to be able to use my desktop as my main email platform, but I also want to see the latest using my iPad when I am traveling.

What type of imac for home computer?

Looking to purchase our second iMac, previous one is 7+ years old. I need our next iMac to have enough memory to handle 10's of thousands of pictures. They all seem to come with 1 TB of hard disk storage but it is teh 2.9 vs3.2 vs3.4 GHz which is what I am more confused about. I currently back everything up to a 1TB time capsule.

Wpa 2 or encrypted network. Very secure I use it and works great.

Appropriate MAC for Arch on home computer?

Since I'm looking forward to switching from Fedora to Arch, I wonder about Mandatory Access Control in Arch.
On the wiki four different MACs are mentioned, AppArmor, Tomoyo, Grsecurity and SELinux. However looks like all of them are disabled in default kernel (both linux & linux-lts) and only grsecurity is enabled in pre-build kernel linux-grsec.
Building custom kernel takes significant time each upgrade, SELinux requires to build a lot of packages from source also. Grsecurity kernel looks like hibernation-incompatible and may cause problems with third-party drivers (vboxhost, nvidia, etc). So I need a MAC that
(1) doesn't require significant packages to be compiled from source each update, especially kernel (even localconfig may need 30-60 minutes or more on a slow netbook),
(2) support hibernation and everything that normally home computer can.
(3) support for all modern kernel modules.
Looks like there is no such kind of a MAC in Arch. Why?
And is using of a MAC really important for home computer at all? How risky to left system "as is" in case of attacks from local (ISP) network, unwise web browsing by inexperienced user, etc?

I don't know. Unless someone is willing to compile the packages for you, there's only really grsecurity in [core]. I certainly have the space in my repository to host them, but I'd rather ask the package maintainer whether they're fine about my hosting pre-built versions and then there's the number of packages I already host...
Well, there is linux-ck-pax, which I provide (ninja'd by Trilby XD), but that's not a full MAC system (it's a big part of grsecurity, but grsecurity is a MAC system). It's more system to provide least privilege protections patched with CK to try and get some more performance.

It's all well and good having the MAC there, but if you don't configure it, well then I don't see any advantages. As for the other bits, well you've got your Firewalls and Responsible Browsing speeches.
EDIT: I had a look through the configs for linux-lts31{0/2}, and those still have TOMOYO and APPARMOR enabled, but those are older LTS kernels, which may/may not be so good.

How to change the "home" computer for a iPod touch 3G (iOS 4.2.1) and an iPad 2(iOS5)? Music library has been already moved to iTunes on the new computer.

I have a iPod Touch (3rd gen) that has not upgraded it's OS beyond iOS4.2.1 even if I have tried connecting it into iTiunes I have a iPad2 which has been recently upgraded to iOS5 . Both were connected to a laptop computer that my husband will take with him when he moves to a different city. I will most probably buy a second laptop sometime, but meanwhile I want to tether my iPod touch and iPad 2 to my desktop PC for now. Before I took the plunge, I had a few questions which I am hoping this forum will help me answer
1. How to switch the Home PC for these devices? I have already transfered my Music library on to my Home PC and then downloaded and reorganised with iTunes. Since I am reorganising the library anyway I don't minding removing all my music from the iTouch and set it up from scratch for the music. However, I removed all musci from theiTouch, changed it to manual mode and connected it to the desktop- It's detecting it fine- but it still is not the home computer for the iTouch- everytime I try to put new music in it- it is deleting everything old- I can't see the same controls as I see from the laptop at all- how to rectify this? To I need to set this up as a new iPod (restore route)?
on the touch I have very few apps and don't care about them. on the iPad I do have a couple of valuable apps that I want to hold on to- so have n't tinkered with it at all- what is the smoothest way for thsi transition? The iPad doesn't have any music on it at this time, but what to do if I want to transfer some?
2. Is there a way I can store the organised iTunes info in any way- like I said I might buy a new laptop in a few months but do not want to reorganise my iTunes over agaoin- it' a fairly large collection most of which is n't purchased from the iTunes store.
3. Why sin't my iTouch 3G upgrading- it's stuck on iOS4.2.1 but iTunes doesn't show any updates- even with chck updates button iTunes show that it is a current version.

The recent release of iBooks 1.2.1 has corrected the problem of the missing Dutton edition of Winnie-the-Pooh. It may have been there with the previous install of iBooks but it would never display in the bookshelf. After updating iBooks to 1.2.1, the Dutton version (the one included with iBooks) suddenly appeared on the bookshelf. So it was a software glitch after all and not a fix Apple chose to document explicitly in the update.

how do i transfer music for one computer (desktop) to a laptop via home sharing? the home share is switched on but cant see how to transfer music over
i cant see the little house on the left hand side under where it says genius, 90s music classical music etc, there is also no import or export botton at the bottom of the screen.

I downloaded Motion 5 onto my laptop for working while on the road. I want to put it my desktop for use at home how do I transfer the software to the desktop?

First..the easy ?, I want to transfer the software from laptoip to desktop for use at home.
Second, I bought this to try to animate a steam engine and the various implements that it can power. I started with a jpeg and then wanted to make a flickering fire in the cumbustor, show the heat rising up through the boiler, piston moving etc.. does that need to be done in separate layers like in photoshop elements and then attach the behavior or separate groups?

Reply to "First ... the easy?" Hopefully it is easy. If the desktop has the same log-in to the App Store as the laptop then all you have to do is:
1. boot up the desktop and log in.
2. go to the App Store and check for software updates (click on the apple in the upper left corner - it's a Mac, isn't it? - and select "Software updates ...")
2a. If it isn't a Mac, then go to the App Store and log in with the same name and password as what the application was bought with,
3. With a Mac, the App Store will check the computer for for updates, discover Motion 5 isn't there, and let you download it.
Unless there is something unusual, that should about do it. Hopefully I haven't muddled a step, but if so, hopefully you can work your way through.
As for the Part B of the post, the flickering flame, that's going to take more work. Sounds like an interesting project, though.

Remote Desktop to My Home Computer

LinkSys Wireless Router Model WRT110. Windows XP SR3.
On my home computer before I was connected to the internet with the WRT110, I was connected directly to my service provider's router, which provided a fixed IP for me. Hence, I was able to do a "Remote Desktop" connection to my home computer from work. Now that I am connected using the WRT110, I received a "local" IP (192.168.1.x) on my home computer and am no longer able to do a Remote Desktop. Is there a way that I can program my WRT110 to allow me to once again do a remote desktop, or is there a procedure whereby I may accomplish the connection? Thank you for the help.

You need to forward port 3389 on your router for Remote Desktop...Also you have to Enable Remote Desktop on your XP Computer...

Do you know what happens if you delete the icloud account from an iphone 4s? Will it delete the pictures, documents, etc. from the phone, or just unlink the icloud from the phone? I want to associate a different icloud account to the phone.

I recently updated to Yosemite and never had this issue before.

I'm not 100% sure of the ins and outs, but it's some sort of known issue between Yosemite, Airport and wifi. All you can do is wait for a fix and keep restarting your equipment as and when needed, unless you have the ability to connect your Mac via ethernet.

So, I have created my home sharing from my base computer to my laptop. On my lap top I see the tab for home sharing but it will not let me connect to my computer to share my music over. I have done everything iTunes has told me to but it still won't work.

I got some more info that may help.
I put a cd on my laptop, and was able to share it to my computer... So the problem is only from my computer to my laptop. I tried the firewall thing and it did not help. I read the rest of the trouble shooting page, and nothing else applies. iTunes is an execption and already was. I can not think of anything else being my problem. Do you think I should re-install iTunes or would that be a waste of time? At this point I am about to just call Apple for some help because I am getting to stressed over this.

The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.

Is your "home computer" the same as your laptop or are these two different machines?

near zero.
Buy a very old computer or move to a new application.
