Desktop-Mail

I discontinued mail service with optonline, but keep getting a pop-up asking for the password. Any suggestions on what to do, or how to change the email provider?  How do I stop the pop-up?

Ann,
I'm afraid you're a bit confused.  Your post claims you have a PowerMac, and this is indeed the PowerMac forum; but it also shows you're running 10.6.8. That's just imposible: Snow Leopard (10.6.8) will not run on a PowerMac.
You must have a Mac Pro, not a PowewrMac.
Are you using Apple's Mail program?  All you have to do is re-configure your mail account, or delete the old account and create a new one with your new provider.  Do you need basic information on setting up a mail account on your MacPro?

  • Can't retrieve sent messages from my Desktop Mail application

    Hi,
Whenever I use a computer away from home to send email, I always click the option to save the sent message in the sent folder. Then, when I get home, I used to retreive those messages from the iDisk icon on my Mail, and then move that message to my sent folder on my Mail, in my desktop at home.
But now, I don't know why, when I drag them to the sent folder in my desktop, these messages just disappear. There is NO way I can move them to my sent folder on my desktop. I tried several things, but I admit I am not good at all with computers, so here I am ... It's funny because I tried to drag those sent messages to my Inbox folder and it worked, but I want to move them to my sent folder, as I used to do.
    Thanks for your help!

ok lets see if my solution fits my undertsanding of your problem.
A .Mac account is essentially an IMAP account. This means that Mailboxes and the Mail in them is replicated identically on the Server every time you synchronize (either manually or in Preferences). Mail is deleted when you do it manually, or automatically - again as part of Preferences. Mail you send through the browser should be replicated on your desktop Mail.app next time you synchronize.
If you create a Mailbox under your user account, this Mailbox is replicated on the server. If however you create an Mailbox that is "On my Mac", and move mail to it, you are effectively moving it off the server and onto your desktop, which may explain why it is disappearing.
Realistically with a .Mac account you should not have to drag Sent Items anywhere.
Because it is a .Mac account, check these things.
    In Mail.app on your desktop:
    1) Preferences/Accounts/.Mac Account/Mailbox Behaviors. Check "Store Sent Messages on the Server and then an option for deleting them. This will ensure Sent Messages remain on the server.
    2) Preferences/Accounts/.Mac Account/Advanced. Check Automatically Synchronize Changed Mailboxes if you want the Server to be updated immediately. Leave it blank and mail will be updated when you log on and off and if you Synchronize manually.
    Through .Mac
    1) Log onto .Mac through the browser - to Mail. Go to Preferences/Composing and ensure that "Save sent messages to" - (Sent Messages) is checked. Save your settings.
Send one test mail using Mail.app and then one through the browser. Your sent mail should appear in the Sent Mail folders on both Mail.app and the server, and you should not have to drag sent mail from or to anywhere.

  • Mac account on desktop mail program has been disabled

Hello, would appreciate any help. Yesterday I ran my desktop mail program and it would look like it was connecting but would have a box appear to "check the settings as it was having trouble getting mail," but then the new mail was there, so didn't think there was a problem. I ran the disc permission repair as I have to do this periodically and today when I clicked on mail in my dock only my ISP mailbox was there. When I click on Preferences it shows my Mac account as "inactive" and it is grayed out. It will not let me "enable" the account or bring it back online. If I click on "edit" to check the settings it won't let me back out because "there is no user name in place" but it won't let me add one. I must click on cancel in order to get out of that section. Is there a way to get this account back on line without removing it and then re-entering all of the information again? If I have to remove it how do I know what to put where in order to get my mail coming to my desktop again, as I am not sure if the ones on the "disable account" are correct at this point. I checked with my ISP just to make sure everything was working on their end and it is, they said it is an Apple problem and to get help from them but their recommendation was to delete the account and start over. In order for me to check my mail to get an answer, I am going to have to keep going to the Mac.com website so would appreciate a prompt reply. Thanks for any help.

  • Desktop mail 'connection failed'

getting an error message on desktop mail on both my accounts:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “.Mac” or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “mail.mac.com” on port 993 timed out."
However, on same computer I am able to login to my mobileMe mail etc through a browser.
    Any ideas?

Yes, I've been having this issue daily with Mac Mail for over 2 months. My email accounts (including gmail, and godaddy accounts, and others) in MacMail just spin and spin and say they are offline. I can easily connect to them through the web or through my gmail account so it's obviously a problem with Mac Mail.
I would like to use the Mac Mail interface but it's incredibly frustrating to have the server timeout 5 different times a day and have it just spin and spin and spin trying to make a connection.
It worked fine over the summer, though last spring it experienced server timeouts everyday.
I advised a friend to get mobile me, reasoning that mobile me and mac mail should work seamlessly since they are both apple products. Unfortunately, in only her second day with Mac Mail she experienced and continues to experience a port 993 timed out error message.
She didn't change any of her settings from when it worked to when it didn't. This is an ongoing issue for Apple and it needs to be solved once and for all.
I've seen many many discussions of this on the web and some of the discussions even say this issue is resolved. Hardly.
MAC MAIL is becoming as frustrating as using a PC.
Please somebody at Apple take responsibility for this and don't stop working on it till it is really resolved.

In case anybody was looking at this and wanted to know the result, there is an undocumented limit to how many characters can be inserted into the "body=" portion of the mailTo URI. (I figured out it was around 1700 characters in my case). To solve my specific problem, I had to delete the stack trace and allow the user to copy/paste it in, since we didn't want to use JavaMail for attachment capabilities.

Well, a SSCCE is quite trivial:

  • Mail Setup Fails- Pop, Exchange and Imap- Desktop Mail works fine

I dont know whats going on with this iphone. I cannot configure mail to connect to any of the connection styles. We use exchange. owa, pop and imap are enabled. Desktop mail client connects fine to POP and Exchange.
I double checked all the settings. No luck. I get an error saying the server is not responding. I've tried the ip address as well.
On a whim, i disabled FBA on the exchange server. no luck.
Security setting were checked. Password was authentication method. Just like the desktop.
We are using exchange 2003. Anyone have any info to share.

Rebooting the Mac fixed the problem. I have no idea why. Still unable to locate the mail ssl certificates.

    Kirk,
Below are the instructions on how to create a message on the SMP.  If you do not know what your S-User information is you will either need to contact your Administrator, or you can contact the CIC at
    1-800-890-7686.
Creating a Message on the SAP Service Marketplace (SMP)
    1.  Go to http://service.sap.com.
    2.  Click on SAP Support Portal.
    3.  Enter your S-User ID and password and click u201COKu201D.
    4.  Click u201COKu201D on digital certificate.
    5.  Enter your S-User ID and password again and click OK.
    6.  Click OK on the following screen.
    7.  Setting up your Single Sign-on allows the site to remember your login and not prompt for it so frequently. To do this, click my Profile at the top of the page. Then click Maintain my Single Sign-on Certificate on the left of the page and follow the instructions. (See Tips and Tricks for more information.)
    8.  After the Single Sign-On, Click on Help & Support and click Report a Product Error. Under System Search, click the drop down arrow next to your installation and choose your system, and click Search and then click on the BOB link.
    9.  When creating a SAP message it is required to search for Notes. (Knowledge Base articles) to see if you can find an answer to your question without having to log the message for support. In the Search Terms area, type your question and click Continue.
    10. If you do not see any Notes pertaining to your question click on Create Message.
    11. Choose the correct Component for the product you are creating the message for. The component is the support Q that your call will go into so the correct team can assist you.  To do this click on the icon next to the icon next to the Component window to see a drop down list.
    12. Click the arrow by BOJ-EIM to see a more detailed list. By each component the names of the u201Cproductsu201D you are using are listed. Choosing the correct component will get your Message logged for the correct support team.
           For example:
BOJ-EIM-COM is used for DeskTop Mailer, Business Edition, Presort, PrintForm, Label Studio
    13. After choosing the component, fill in any remaining required/optional items. **Required fields under Problem Details are flagged with a red asterisk.
u2022     In the Short Text box, enter a brief description of the question or issue.
u2022     In the Long Text box, you can go into further detail about what you are seeing or questioning.
u2022     On this page also you can select to attach files if needed (please zip your files).
u2022     When you are finished you can either click on Save Message or Send Message. If you click on Save Message, the message WILL NOT be sent to support, it will remain in the Draft section of your u201Cmy Inboxu201D for you to send later.
u2022     If you want to send the message to technical assurance now click Send Message.
u2022     You can see the messages you have u201Csentu201D to support by clicking My Inbox and viewing your Sent Items.

  • Desktop Mailer truncates address field to 30 characters w/ Lorton NCOA

My database fields include a primary address field and a secondary address field, both with 48 characters maximum length.
After running the Lorton NCOA process using Business Objects Desktop Mailer Extended Services, data in the secondary address field had been truncated to 30 characters.  A Lorton technician assured me that Lorton had not done it, but that it was apparently a problem with Desktop Mailer.
No truncation appears to take place for the primary address field when data length > 30 characters.
Can anyone confirm this behavior and present a solution?

    Harry,
This is actually a limitation of Lorton.  This was included in the users guide for 7.90 on page 124
"When you perform Extended Services NCOALink, DSF2, or ZIP4 processing, Lorton Data returns 48 characters for the Address Line 1 field and 30 characters for Address Line 2 u2014 except in the case of move-updated records. If your Address Line 1 field and Address Line 2 field are set up longer than 48 and 30 characters, respectively, data in those fields will be truncated, and you may lose data. Move-updated records receive a total of 48 characters split between Address Line 1 and 2."
We are working with Lorton hopefully change this in the future.
    Thanks,
    Kendra

  • Desktop mail message quick look

I have seen on a colleague's mac that when she receives a new mail message, the message itself is visible on her desktop (not as part of the mail program per se). She can see a "quick look" type preview of it in the upper corner of her desktop. It's transparent, like a sticky note might be. Someone else set it up for her and she can't remember what he did. Has anyone seen this option and if so, how can I set it up to work on my mac?

  • Apple desktop mail sync with iPhone mail more than 200 emails

I want to have all my 8GB of email on both my iPhone and Apple desktop in sync.
Currently I have several tens of thousands of emails on my desktop Apple Mail but iPhone only holds 200.
My iPhone is 32GB has plenty of room. My desktop Apple mail folder is only 8GB.
The best solution so far is Easy-Email proceedures and use OneMail on the iPhone.
But Easy-Email requires several hours of somewhat complex set up and unfortunatly relies on Gmail to work.
How to sync all my email on iPhone and desktop Apple Mail as easily as syncing using iTunes?
I already know the answere, there is no solution.
Any guesses if/when that will ever be possible?

Your second paragraph is not relevant. No one would expect to download thousands of messages via cellular.
The intial download of my thousands of messages would be via the iTunes sync. Any new mail in or out would be downloaded the same as it is now.
Other persons starting new accounts wouldn't see anything except their mail boxes growing normally.
My email ISP is POP. I've had the account for 14 years. I don't want to change my email address so I'll live with the problem and keep investigating alternative ways to have all my email on my devices, not just in the cloud.
Though Apple's new cloud attitued does give me some hope that I'll be able to purchase extra GBs to keep all my Apple downloaded email devices in Sync and with the mail files accually on them even when not connected with the internet.
By the way I do receive 300-500 emails a week. Due to the 200 message limit I have to check my iPhone often which is a pain. I get only 2-3 spam emails a week.

  • .me mail wiped out from iPhone. Restore desktop Mail from Time Machine how?

Wife using her iPhone (OS 4.0.2) for some reason choose delete all on the mobile me account, which wiped out all of our old email on our iMac. Very important email from many years !
Fortunately, We are running Time Machine on a NAS, so getting the files back isn't a big deal. What I don't know is what I'm supposed to copy over. If I look at users-->library-->mail-->Mac(username)-->INBOX.imapmbox-->messages.. I can still see all the same messages that are showing up in time machine. Is there another file or trick I need to do for the mail app to get all of these messages back in the inbox and everything back to normal ?
    Thanks !

Start Mail and while looking at the mail window, start time machine.
It should come up with the "star field" and you will have all the accounts and mailboxes available as far back as your TM backups go.
From there you can restore your mail.
    Cheers

  • Question for sending a PDF Form with desktop mail

    Dear all,
I try to create a PDF form and use it for a Workflow.
Therefore I created some "Send" Buttons and put into the Properties/Actions/Submit a Form the comand "mailto: [email protected]".
The second "Send" Button contains another mail adress which is also shown while putting the mouse over the button.
But after clicking this one the PDF is still send to the Mail-Adress from the first button!
Any idea, what went wrong or where the issue is?
    Thanks for a quick feedback
    Thomas

    Hi try67,
    thanks for the tipp.
I already renamed all send-buttons -> but it still does not work!
This morning I deleted them all and created new one - now it seems to work.
BUT: it only works as long as there is no digital signature on the document.
As soon as the first signature is placed - all send buttons change to the same email adress.
    ???? Looks quite strange....

  • Can iPhone Mail redirect mail to subfolders like the Apple desktop Mail app

In my Mail app on my computer, I have Rules set up so that certain emails from various people get moved to a few different subfolders I have set up. However, in my iPhone, they all come to my primary email address. Is there any way to make iPhone mail behave and redirect certain emails to subfolders? I belong to a few beta test groups and the amount of email is staggering, so I've rather have these emails redirected. Any advice? Thanks.

No - the iPhone does not include a rules feature to sort recieved messages by category, and you can't create mailboxes with the iPhone's Mail client. The iPhone's Mail client is a compliment to the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, not a replacement for.
With an IMAP account along with storing all user created mailboxes on the server for sorting recieved messages by category, all server stored mailboxes will be available with the iPhone's Mail client and kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. If you keep the Mail.app on your Mac launched and running, any sorting of received messages to user created server stored mailboxes based on rules with the Mail.app on your Mac will be reflected automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client. This is not possible with a POP account.

  • Desktop.mail  Mailto with HTML formatted email

I'm trying to make my application send an email with an HTML formatted table in the body. I've got the text to be visible in the email, but it doesn't format according to the tags and the tags are visible. HTML email is turned on in the email client.

    Then substitute line
    msg.setText(content);

    msg.setContent( content , "text/html");
it should do in simplest form.
