Desktop wont startup black screen

i have a hp desktop computer. It is vista ultimate. Quad core processor. 64 bit. The computer won't startup. I checked my monitors and they all work correctly. What do I do? I understand there is a windows vista installed on the hard drive. I have reinstalled from the desktop before. However I can't this time due my computer not working correctly. I don't want to do recovery disk because I have tried that before on another computer brand and it did not install, it kept freezing.

  • HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista black screen - need help please!

I have an HP Pavilion a6000 desktop with Vista.  Yesterday it was working fine and today we have the black screen that reads:
    Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright (c) 2000, Award Software, Inc.
    BIOS ROM checksum error
    Detecting IDE ATAPI device...
Found CDROM, try to boot from it...Fail

    Detecting IDE ATAPI device...
    Detecting floppy drive A media...
    Drive A error.  System halt
I am not a techie, but looked at online forums and have tried f10 at startup with no change to the screen other than it stops after the first four lines and does not try the floppy drive.  I also pulled out the round battery, waited and then reintstalled.  Same problem.
Also, computer emits a single, repeating beep after startup.
    HELP!

I saw your post and wanted to comment. I'm not an expert on these types of situations but did some digging around and found the following at Tips4PC.com.... read below
"There are two types of computer black screens that can appear in Windows. One where the computer will not boot up but you have a beep sequence sounding to let you know what the problem could be, and the other has nothing at all. No beeps, no cursor, no logo screen, and no choice to boot to safe mode or access the bios.
If your computer will not boot up and you get a beep sequence, I am not saying it is good news, however it is a step in the right direction towards solving this problem. This is a message from your computer that can be understood by looking up your bios (the brand) beep code. For example you may have an Award Bios, Ami Bios, Phoenix BIOS, Compaq, Dell, or Acer Bios. This list goes on and on.  You can search for Bios beep codes in Google. Here is an example of results in Google search"

Also  I went into the Troubleshooting Guide for the A6000  and found the following information.  You need to use F11 for recovery. See below
Starting System Recovery from system startup
    1
Turn off the computer. If necessary, press and hold the On button until the computer
    turns off.
    2
Remove the HP Personal Media Drive if your computer includes one. Disconnect all
peripheral devices from the computer except the monitor, the keyboard, and the
    mouse.
    3
Press the On button to turn on the computer.
    4
During the startup, do the following to enter the Recovery Manager program:
When the blue screen with the HP Invent logo appears, press the F11 key on the
keyboard. (You have only a few seconds to press the F11 key before the normal
    startup process continues.)
    5
The computer starts the Recovery Manager program; wait for the onscreen instructions
to display, and then follow those instructions.
    6
Complete the computer startup, finish the registration process, and wait until you see
the desktop. Then, turn off the computer, reconnect all peripheral devices, and turn on
    the computer.

  • Desktop stuck at black screen with cursor in normal mode but boots fine in safe mode after updates.

After running some updates the other night my laptop stopped loading the desktop and just gets stuck at a black screen with a cursor after I log in to the user account. The only thing I can do from there is do ctrl+alt+delete, then log off or restart.
I can't open up task manager. I tried creating another account in safe mode thinking there was an issue with the account but I still have the same issue. In event viewer I have two warnings one is

    besides restoring to factory settings?

    Hi,
We may try to reinstall Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for a test.
In addition, let us perform the following steps.
    1. Click Start, Run, type lusrmgr.msc then ENTER.
    2. Select Groups in the left pane.
    3. Double-click Users in the right pane.
    4. Click Add, and then click Locations. Scroll to the top of the Locations dialog and select the local computer name, then click OK.
    5. In the Enter the object names to select field, type Interactive; Authenticated Users (separated by a semi-colon). Then click OK.
    6. Restart the computer.
Or we can run the following commands from a command prompt:
    Net localgroup Users Interactive /add
Net localgroup Users "Authenticated Users" /add

    Hello.
    My T60 2007 QPG froze.
Pushed the power button to shut down.
Now it wont boot: fan starts then stops, just a blank black screen, no beep or beep sequence.
After reading the board i removed cmos battery, ram, hdd: no beep indicating an error.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks

    Hello mate,
If you have no beep when you remove the RAM, your motherboard is dead.

  • Startup - Black Screen

Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem when they start their iMac? Recently i have noticed that after i push the power button i get the start-up noise as normal but nothing actually happens on the display - then after about twenty seconds the grey apple screen appears witht the revolving cog and the rest of startup is as normal.
I cant quite say when it first happened as i rarely shutdown my comp but i first noticed it after installing the new itunes and quicktime (after system restart). I have repaired permission and have cocktail so have executed daily, weekly and monthly maintenance etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I may just be over-worrying but i just thought i would check.
    Garry
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Garry - I had exactly this problem recently and nailed it down to a problem with one of my USB peripherals plugged into my hub.
    Here's the thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=641973&tstart=50
Have also since discovered that rather than having to start up in safe mode to see what's going on, if you open up Console and then look at the system log you may see an entry something like:
localhost kernel: USBF: 71.947 AppleUSBEHCI[0x1c93800]::MakeDevice error setting address. err=0xe000404b device=0x2389d00 - releasing device
that repeats for the duration of your Black Screen during start up, indicating that the problem lies with a USB device or its driver.
Anyway - cure for me was simply unplugging the device and reinstalling the drivers. First thing just unplug everything except for keyboard and mouse and see if that sppeds things up, then go looking for the problem device.

I have reinnstalled my mac one day ago but got the same problem

    Hello Fredrik,
Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.

    Hi there!
My computer broke down a couple of week's ago and i have been using my laptop meanwhile.
Now i finally got some new parts to my computer.
    So the current computer:
    AMD Athlon X2 250, 3,0 ghz, AM3, 2MB, 65W
    MSI GF615M-P33, Socket-AM3, m-ATX, GeForce 6150se, DDR3, SATA II, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
    Sahpire Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express 2.0, DVI-I, native-HDMI, HDCP, Lite-Retail
    Kingston ValueR. DDR3 1333MHz 4GB, CL9, Kit w/two Matched ValueRAM 2GB DDR3
    Samsung HD501LJ, 500GB, 7200rpm, 16M
Windows XP Pro 32 bit, right now, will upgrade later to Windows 7 Ultimate.
    Huntkey Delcato PSU-422 450W DC Output: "+5V=35A(RED), 12V1=15A(YELLOW), +3.3V=30A(ORANGE), +12V2=17A(YELLOWBLACK), -12V=0.5A(BLUE), +5Vsb=2.0A(PURPLE), PG(GREY)
So the problem is that when i inserted all of my components and then just went to boot it, it gave me 3 beeps and a black screen.
My flatmate has the same motherboard and i tried the RAM, CPU and Video card on it, and it worked fine with one beep and i got a screen and came to BIOS.
I tried his RAM, CPU and Video Card on my motherboard and it still gave me 3 beeps and no screen.
So i have no clue how to troubleshoot anymore.
Tell me if you need anymore information
    Please help me!
    Thanks in advance!!

  • Ipod touch 4g wont start - Black Screen

I bought an Ipod touch about 2 weeks ago. I never dropped it and water never fell in it. It HAD iOS 4.3.5 (had because I can't turn it on). When I try to turn it on, it won't start. Apple logo doesn't show, it only shows a black screen. When I connect it to the computer (Itunes) it doesn't recognize it. I don't know what happened. I have tried Re-charging it, but nothing happens. I've also tried to put it on DFU mode but it doesn't even shows the screen.
What can it be? Does the warranty covers this?
If you need more information about this tell me.

If you just got it, contact Apple and get it serviced.

  • HT4818 StartUp black screen

Hello, i have a macbook pro mod: 2009, the last before unibody. I have upgraded it to Lion OSX and installed bootcamp for windows. When I choosed from mac operating system to start up with the mac driver, the screen turned black and since then its black. I tried to use shortcuts as: command+alt+P+R, command+V or command+S, nothing happens. Also took off the battery and power cord, and pressed the power button for a while, nothing, still black screen. I can hear the disk starting but the screen remains black. Also the start up sound which normally it would do, doesn't sound anymore. WHAT should I do?

Try an SMC reset. Follow the procedure "for a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • IMac wont boot--black screen.

I have 2 iMacs (1.8gHz). Im familiar with the display problem with lines and artifacts.
So I sent both boards to a guy on ebay who fixes (replaces) the leaking capacitors for $50. (I wasnt going to pay $1000 to Apple)
I put installed the MBboards back in both Imacs.
One booted fine then to a crazy lined screen and froze. Subsequent restarts it got worse till now it sounds like its starting but NO display, just black.
The other iMac makes the start chime, then just seems to go dead to a black screen.
I order 2 inverter boards on eBay (new). Installed both.
Now both iMacs sound like they are running but display is totally black...
    Whats going on? Stumped.

    Steve-
Has your black screen iMac situation been resolved? I too have a very similar problem currently:

  • T60 wont go past Windows XP startup black screen

    Hi guys
I am computer noob so take it easy on the flaming. I got a 2 yr old T 60 laptop with 1gb of mem, 80 gb hard drive and XP Home Edition.  I had finger print protection and everything to make it secure and my cousin wanted to use my compter when I am not around and I did not know how to disable figer proection so I restored the computer to factory state.  It was working fine until 30 min ago when I shut computer off by just pressing the off button for 5 seconds.
Now it just stops at WINDOWS XP screen and wont let me even access the THINK VANTAGE page to restore to factory state.  It's not letting me access safe mode either.  I am an idiot and did not make a bootable disk since computer companies are being cheap these days and not giving one like they used to.
Please help me fix this problem.  Thanks in Advance.

  • Satellite C855-S5194 wont start, black screen, fan pulses

I've seen many posts and youtube videos on this subject, but not with the specific symptoms mine is having.  I've gone through various troubleshooting steps already so don't bother telling me to do a power reset or whatever its called.  Here's the specifics:  When trying to power on the laptop, the fan tries to start, but then pulses on and off with increasing intensity and then dies down and builds up again. Screen is black, power light is on.  I removed the hard drive and same thing.  Here's the strange part:  There is a 4G RAM in slot A and 2G in slot B.  If I remove the 2G from B and leave 4G in A then I get just a single beep, no fan.  If I take out 4G from A and replace with 2G card, I get the single beep.  This model is supposed to work with only slot A occupied.  If I reverse them, 2G in A and 4G in B I get the same beep.  It's only if 4G is in A and 2G is in B that it at least pulses the fan on and off.  I thought it unlikely that it is the RAM and it's just due to another fault that this strange thing happens.  So I stripped it down to get out the motherboard for inspection.  I found a suspect looking solder joint next to where the battery connects, there is a double-pin solder joint that looked like a cold joint, so I resoldered it and put back together.  It basically still does the same thing except the fan does not pulse as quickly just one pulse about every 10-15 seconds, so it seems I changed something.  Anyway, I'm at the conclusion that I need a motherboard reflow, unless it is the CPU which I wouldn't know how to test.  One other thing I noticed when I took it apart was the CPU appeared to have way too much thermal compuound on it [from what I read] It looks like they just blobbed a whole bunch on top and the heat sink squeezed it out all over.  Just wondering if that may have been the cause of overheating that damaged the motherboard or perhaps both RAM cards?  That RAM symptom seems odd.  I didn't feel like ordering new RAM when it didn't seem likely to be the problem, now I'm second guessing.  So does it seem like motherboard or RAM... or the CPU?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!
OK, so the motherboard reflow didn't work.
I found another motherboard online for $130 and that worked.
I think I'm going to get a cooling pad now in case overheating was the problem.

  • IMac wont startup (grey screen of death??)

Hi my iMac G5 wont start up. When I power on I only get as far as the first all grey screen. The fans are running continiously until I have to shut it down. I tried inserting the recovery disk after rebooting but no joy (and now I can't eject the recovery disk).
    Any ideas?

    1. Have you tried the SMU reset? (Disconnect every cable from the back of the computer and leave for a few minutes; then reinsert power cable while holding power button in and hold power button in for at least 10 seconds; then release power button and press it again to power on the Mac).
    2. Do you have OS X installed on an external HD ? If so, power on and hold down the Option key - if you get the screen with your eHD listed with OS X across it, then click that and see if it boots from that.
If neither of these work, and you've tried Safe Boot, and the Install disk, then it may turn out to be the logic board :-( (if it was your HD you should get as far as a grey screen displaying a folder with a blinking ? ).
