Destination volume for Reader 9

How do I get a destination volume to appear in step 2 of installation of Reader 9 on mac intel using firefox?

You can download the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ or ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.5.0/ (select your language).
I was unable to locate an update package for 9.5 non-MUI.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The hard drive is not formatted, and it must be formatted in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" in order to install OS X.
Close the OS X installer, and go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Disk Utility. Then, format your hard drive in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as Format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Finally, close Disk Utility and install OS X

  • Can't install 10.4.9 on my internal hard drive - no destination volume

    Hello,
I replaced the internal hard drive of my MacBook2.1 and am attempting to install Mac OS 10.4.9
    Here are the specs:
500 GB Western Digital BPKT Scorpio Black Internal SATA Hard Drive
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GHz
    1 GB of memory
I start up the MacBook and insert the Install disk. I encounter a problem when at the 'Select Destination' section of the install. It says to 'Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software' but there is no destination volume available to select!
This led me to opening the 'Disk Utility'. When the Disk Utility is open, it shows the hard drive (the SMART status is verified) on the left. However, it says the total capacity of the HD is 3.6 TB, which is not correct. I erase the HD with the 'Mac OS Extended (journaled)' volume format. I attempt to partition the HD with one partition with the same format. When I click 'Partition' a window pops up that says 'Partition failed with the error - Input/output error'.
Not sure what to do to prevent this error. I do have install disks for Mac OS 10.5.4 and can partition the HD with that, but still no destination volume available when tryint to install 10.4.9. The MacBook2.1 can with version 10.4.9 and I cannot install 10.5.4.
I had read some discussions about problems with External HD's but haven't read any on Internal. I am really hoping someone can help me with this problem as I bought this MacBook second hand (from my wonderful sister) and am unfamiliar with it. Do I need a particular HD to install 10.4.9 properly? I'm all ears.
    Thank you,
    Highlander

    Hello,
Was Highlander85's issue ever been resolved?A
I'm experiencing the exact same problem as Highlander85 except my system is an iMac and I'm attempting to erase/partition an internal Seagate Barracuda 500G SATA. I have tried everything that Highlander tried and still no luck. I also confirmed w/Seagate that adjusting jumper settings for this drive is not necessary. Is there a chance there is an issue w/my RAM or would you think it's time to open up my machine again and R/R myHDD while I am still within the stores return policy?
The spec's for my system per your last reply are below:
OS X 10.4.7 (Have original disks)
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM51.0090.B09
    SMC Version (system): 1.9f4
    Thanks in advance!

  • 4.6 updater doesn't provide a destination volume

Running on a Powerbook G4, 17" (first generation), 1Gb RAM, 100Gb HD. Running Tiger 10.4.5. Tried running the updater through the software update panel - got about 3/4 through, then said it couldn't complete the update. Rebooted, repaired disk permissions, then downloaded the updater for a manual install. Ran it, went through all the confirmation screens, but when I got to the Destination Volume screen, it was blank - no drives showing. Tried to run Disk Utility, and it won't open because of a background utility that failed to launch. Shut down the Powerbook, hooked it to my G5 in target disk mode and ran Disk Utility to repair disk and disk permissions. Everything completed successfully. Downloaded the 10.4.6 Combo installer for PPC, booted the Powerbook. Still no drives in the destination volumes screen. Rebooted using DiskWarrior, repaired the drive without any issues, rebooted in Safe Mode... still no drives showing.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here and what I need to do to fix this? The Powerbook is running fine otherwise, but I'd like to get this updater installed. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I've also had similar problems since trying to install 10.4.6 on my 15"PB (which was previously running beautifully on 10.4.5). After numerous problems, even after Archive & Install, the hard drive "disappeared." Someone on this forum posted this fix (see the 2nd post): http://tinyurl.com/zbgrk
Once I got the hard drive back, I reformatted the drive and reinstalled 10.4.5 (I just spent the whole weekend on this mess, and I'm not going to try 10.4.6 again! )

  • Problems installing, cant verify destination volume

I'm trying to install Tiger 10.4 and everything goes well until I get to the "install" phase. During "Preparing the Disk" when it's "Verifying Destination Volume" which I previously chose my HD when I was prompted in the beginning, it fails. If I restart like it tells me to, the same thing happens. Anyone know what this means?

    Hi frogtooth,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
There are too many possible reasons for your problem. Make sure you have the retail full install version of Tiger, then follow this procedure: 10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist.

  • No Destination Volume; Disk Utility problems too!

I have an Imac G5. I was having problems with my old OS (panther)--basically it was corrupted and kept crashing and then wouldn't even load. So I ran out and bought Tiger (as I had lost my original Panther install CD, I figured I might as well upgrade since I was doling out the cash for the software).
I did an archive install so that I could rescue my music from the old harddrive, which worked. Then I tried to trash the "previous system" folder but the computer froze each time I tried to empty the trash. I figured I'd better re-install Tiger (this time doing an erase install), since applications were running kind of slowly and I didn't want the stuff on the old software to corrupt my nice new Tiger.
In re-installing Tiger, however, the system seemed to crash. I re-booted the computer and now the installer doesn't recognize my hard drive--there aren't any icons to choose in the destination volume section.
I went into disk utility and ran first aid on what I assume is the harddrive (something which says 74.5GB and then some numbers). The error message I got was: "the underlying task reported failure on exit." From reading some other posts in this forum, this sounds like quite a bad thing. I tried to run techtools delux, but the computer didn't load it (not sure if it is the appropriate version for tiger anyway, since the version isn't listed on the cd or anywhere in my applecare literature).
Ah, she should zero out her harddrive, you say. Well, here's what I've done: I made a partition (sucessfully, I think) and tried to zero out the new disk (which, for some reason is called diskos3). Afterwards the installer should recognize my harddrive, right?
Wrong! Turns out the disk can't be erased due to the same error message as before: "the underlying task reported failure on exit."
Okay, that's the end of my sad, sorry tale. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

You probably will. It's possible that it became unplugged, in which case it needs to be plugged in again.

  • Cannot install or Update. No destination Volume appears.

Update installers and original Tiger disk will begin installation, but stop at "Select destination volume" with a blank window--I can't make any selection, as there isn't anything to select, and I have to force quit. This seems to happen with any update, and also the original install disk. My disk is Tiger 10.4.1 and my machine has done auto updates to 10.4.3--I am trying to get to 10.4.6, and upgrade other mac software that I use (iPhoto, iTunes). Disk utility stops at the end of it's process--with "unexpected exit" error, and "minor bit map error"--I get a message saying disk utility can't fix the problem.
I invested in Techtool Pro 4.1.1 (which did install without a problem), and then resolved the few issues it had when testing. It now runs the tests with no errors found, but I have the same problems as above (no installation volume), and anything I try is VERY, VERY slow. Any suggestions or what I can try short of erase and install?? I have 40 GB of stuff on the machine, and can't easily backup or move it without purchasing more hardware and software. Wait--I don't think I can even erase and install, as the process doesn't get that far to even let me select options. Help.

It sounds like you have a directory issue. What you might want to do is get a friends machine to backup your data to.

  • Moving copy of project laptop to iMac.  When I try to export my laptop project to either a thumbdrive or a SD card, the export fails and says 'file system of destination volume not supported'.  How to fix?

When trying to move a project from Macbook Pro laptop to iMac, the program says, 'file system of the destination volume is not supported.'
This is true for both a thumb drive and a SD card.  What is the fix? Thanks

Format them OS X Extended. Aperture libraries have to be on OS X Extended formatted volumes.
Use Disk Utility. Remember when you format a drive you erase all the data that is on it. So it there is anything you want on those copy it off first.

How do I change the volume for a single midi instrument in GarageBand 10? Every time I move the volume, it moves back!

Every time I move the volume, it moves back!
Check, if you have a volume automation set on the software instrument track.
If the track volume automation curve is enabled, the volume slider for the track will move with the automation curve.
Click the automation curves disclosure triangle in the track header and disable the volume automation.

  • Is is possible to use creative cloud as a shared volume for collaboration between incopy & indesign?

I'm a designer student and as a designer, I constantly have to make decks for presentations.  I typically work in a group of six and because I'm confident with graphic design, I tend to be the leader of these tasks.  I've found the best workflow for slide creation is Indesign.  Unfortunatly, I'm just an awful writer— so when I heard about Incopy's collabrative features(saw the post from indesign's facebook page) I saw oppertunity and got very excited.  My teamates and I typically all have subscriptions to adobe cc because of this, I was wondering (since I havent used it at all) if the storage given out from adobe cc was able to be that shared volume that is required for the live link between incopy stories and indesign layouts.
    Therefore,
Is is possible to use creative cloud as a shared volume for collaboration between Incopy & Indesign?
If this needs any further clarification I'll gladly write a more detailed question — lastly, if this is not possible might you suggest an alternative?  Please assume that we go to school together but we work offsite also.

You will not be able to use the Files page at https://creative.adobe.com/files for collaboration in this way. But you can share individual files in this way.
When folder sharing is available this will be possible.

  • "The volume for DSC_0001.jpg cannot be found"?

I'm a bit of a novice with macs but a new problem has occurred while importing photos from my Nikon D70s to iphoto. With the majority of images, it comes up with the caution "The volume for DSC_0001.jpg cannot be found" or whichever DSC image. If I press 'cancel' it imports the photo and I can view and edit it. If I press 'OK' or 'find photo' nothing useful seems to happen.
I have tried updating iphoto but I again get an alert saying "An eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location /Applications."
Any help with both these problems would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers.

This sometimes occurs if you’re importing a file into iPhoto and there’s already a file there with the same name. Digital cameras can produce many, many files with the same name over their lifetime, so it’s not uncommon to have several files called IMG_00543.JPG, for instance. Now you want to import one also called this.
What happens is that iPhoto compares the two files to check for duplicates. However, if iPhoto cannot find the file already in the database for comparison, then you get this message. It suggests that your database is damaged because iPhoto has lost track of this (or these) similarly named files.
A simple test is to rename the file you are importing - just add a character - IMG_00543a.JPG for instance. If this then imports with no issue then you might consider rebuilding your library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager  and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • THE VOLUME FOR "MOVIES" CAN NOT BE FOUND

Not sure if I posted this in the right place. I would appreciate anyone that can help.
I installed iLife 08 yesterday and everything seemed to go fine.
When I go to open my MOVIES folder I keep getting a : "THE VOLUME FOR "MOVIES" CAN NOT BE FOUND" message?
    What happened??
    More importantly....
On the left hand of my Finder window where it lists DEVICES, PLACES, and SEARCH FOR.... if I click on SEARCH FOR and go to ALL MOVIES....
I was relieved to find all of my movie files still in there.
    BUT HERE'S THE PROBLEM:
I was watching some of the movies... and I noticed as soon as I clicked off and started viewing a new movie... the previous movie would disappear from the ALL MOVIES FOLDER... and the number tally would decrease.
I finally realized after 10 movies that files were disappearing... or perhaps being deleted.
I used FIND to try to locate the lost files but no such luck. I can't find them anywhere.
It also appears to be only my WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER FILES that are disappearing.
What happened to my MOVIES folder? and where are these lost files going? Are they being deleted? UGH UGH UGH!
If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate. I'm very frazzled.

  • Ver.9.5 The volume for file name cannot be found

    HI,
My work Mac Book pro was recently upgraded to Mavericks from 10.6.8, with iPhoto 11 (ver. 9.5) also an included upgrade. One album of photos is no longer accesible - clicking on each thumbnail provokes the following window "The volume for <file name> cannot be found. The "Try again" option doesn't work, and the alternative, which is to use the finder to locate the file is useless, as the files are buried in a library spare bundle. When I copy the file name, and search on the volume with the library via finder, it pulls up tiny thumbnail size files.
I have a primary iphoto library on a dedicated USB external drive, which I back up not everytime I update the library (200 gbs spare bundle over USB2!), but regularly. I fear these recently imported files, have not been backed up before up erasing cards, and upgrading system OS, have gone.
Is there any way of getting into the library via finder, or elsewhere in iphoto to refind the original master files which are in there somewhere? These files opened perfectly in iphoto before the recent upgrade.

Thanks for the fast response. I've followed your directions and can't find the file in there, in Masters, Originals, or Modified folders. I found files in Thumbnails folder though. Some of the files from the same event are fine, so its not consistent. I'm also noticing that another file in the event has a totally blurred preview (Its a 24mbs Jpg from a Nikon D800) - not sure if this is at all connected.
The positive news is that my NeoFinder database of drives indicates I should have the 'missing' files on another computer in the office, but I'm still scratching my head on this.

  • Error message "The Volume for "IMG_5727.JPG Cannot be found.

    Help!
I have been recieving the error:
"The Volume for "IMG_5727.JPG Cannot be found.
Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and
wait for it to appear on the desktop, then try again."
It has been happening for months but I am editing/moving
wedding pictures(900 plus) right now and it is impossible to work around this. They are new images that were just down loaded from the card reader.
I can see the pictures right in the library
    Help!
    Kathy

You say you are "editing/moving" pictures from a wedding.
Depending on what you mean by that, it could be creating the problem you're having.
Are you physically "moving" your pictures within the finder, or do you just mean dragging and dropping within iPhoto?
Usually, the way iPhoto works is you upload them into iPhoto from a card or some sort of volume.
A new file is created in the iPhoto library.
That file never leaves the library as it is now the actual link to iPhoto.
However, if you physically move that file from the library, you will break the link and have lots of problems.
You can't move files from the iPhoto library.
However, if you're not physically moving photos from the library (manually, via the finder), and if you are uploading into iPhoto, and iPhoto shows you a thumbnail and when you click on it, it gives you that message, then there might be something wrong with the volume iPhoto thinks it's uploading pictures to from your card/source volume.
I would reestablish a new volume to save to and see if it's still having the same problems. Make sure you backup the original library though.
