Detecting a user abort in a Java Application

Hi friends!
I want to develop a Java Application that makes a back-up from a DataBase. If the application is aborted during the execution, It has to be concerned about the abort, for continuing the back-up in the point it was left, when the application is executed again.
I would like to know if there is any way for a Java application to detect if the user has aborted the execution. It will be used to write in a file the last register of the DB that was copied.

Please do not crosspost. If everyone started doing it, your own question would be pushed to third page in no time. Be considerate to others.

  • How to get Portal user from a standalone Java application

    Hi,
    I have a standalone Java application from where I need to fetch the Portal User Information like userid and email id.
    I am using the below line of code
    iUser = UMFactory.getUserFactory().getUserByLogonID("e017939");
    I have included the jar file com.sap.security.api , But it was giving me the below exception
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/tc/logging/Location
         at com.sap.security.api.UMFactory.<clinit>(UMFactory.java:55)
         at com.am.wcas.java.mailscheduler.kmaccess.FetchDataFromKM.getiUser(FetchDataFromKM.java:29)
         at com.am.ScheduleEmails.main(ScheduleEmails.java:89)
    and I am getting a pop Up message from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher, saying a Fatal Exception has occured and the Program will exit.
    Then I went throught he SDN threads and they asked me to include the
    logging.jar and com.sap.security.perm.api .
    I Included them, then also, it is giving me Exception
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/engine/lib/logging/LoggingHelper
         at com.sap.security.api.UMFactory.<clinit>(UMFactory.java:56)
         at com.am.FetchKMData.main(FetchKMData.java:30)
    Exception in thread "main"
    and I am getting a pop Up message from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher, saying a Fatal Exception has occured and the Program will exit.
    Kindly let me know if it is possible to access the User info using UMFactory in a standalone Java application. If yes kindly let me know where i am going wrong.
    Regards,
    Shilpa B.V

    Hi Shilpa,
    1. Check that you have added com.sap.security.api within the Your Project>Libraries folder (under navigation tab) and also added jars in the build path of the Your Project under project>properties>Build Path.
    2. In case you have a DC instead of Web Dynpro Project then you have to add the com.sap.security.api under Your DC>Used DCs and have compile time and runtime dependency added.
    Here java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError is caused basically due to only build time dependency added and reference to the jar missing at runtime. Rest the code to retrieve the current user id using UME API and getUserByLogOnID("....") method with/without portal environment would not be an issue at all.

  • Accessing User Name in a JAVA application from a PKI certificate

    Our JAVA application needs to verify the username from a PKI certificate. Is there any way to access this information. We are developing using Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle App Server and db.
    Thanks,

    I don't know if it is possible to run the main method from another Java app by simply calling it...
    But you could just copy and paste the stuff from your main method into a new static method called something like runDBQuery and have all the execution run from there.
    How does that sound? Is it possible?
    What I'm suggeting is:
    Original
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    }Revised:
    public class DBQuery{
    public static void methodA(){
    public static void doQuery(){
    methodA();
    public static void doMyQuery(){
    // Your method calls
    //Your initializing
    doQuery();
    // No main needed!!
    //public static void main(String[] args){
    // Your method calls
    //doQuery();
    //}

  • User Role problems in Sun Java Application Server Platform Edition 8

    I am having two problems setting up user roles in Sun Java Application Server Platform Edition 8. At first, I thought that it was a problem with the higher level features that I was using, so I created a very simple example using the simplest authentication I can use, but the problem still occurs. I am using the file realm and configuring the users in the App Server Admin Console. I create 2 users in different roles. One user should have access, the other should not.
    1) The first problem is that both users can access the page
    2) The second problem is that the isUserInRole() method returns false for both users with the role that it should be authenticating against.
    Here is a sample of my code:
    Users Configured in Console:
    username password roles

    user2 ********** noaccess

    Hi Jeanfrancois,
    Your suggestion has lead me to find my problem. There were actually three problems.
    1) First, you suggestion to reorder my xml file did not cause any errors to occur. I got suspicious that my web.xml file was wrong. I looked at some sample web-xml files and found that I was missing the header as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC '-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN' 'http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd'>
    2) When I added this information, the deploy feature failed stating the my web.xml file was out of order. I fixed the ordering. It now deployed, but the security still wasn't working.
    3) I then added the sun-web.xml file. This file was missing before hand as I thought it was unnessary. However, this file added the essential mapping from a role to a group. After adding this, it now started to work.
    Thanks so much for you time and effort. You really did help me.

  • Want to shutdown solaris 10 using java application

    Greetings all!
    I have been unsuccessful at creating my application to shut down a Solaris 10 server with a java application. I am hoping someone might be able to point me in a good direction here.
    I want to log on as a regular user and run a java application that monitors remote information (UPS battery voltage) and will gracefully shutdown the server if there is a problem. If I run my application as root all is well, except that I am running as root :)
    I can write code to access the shell:
    Process proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("ls");
    BufferedReader Input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(proc.getInputStream()));
    while ((s = Input.readLine()) != null) {out.println(s);}
    But I can't do a "su"?
    I've tried multiple examples out there of code that allows shell communication, and good examples of using Runtime.getRuntime()
    I think the conclusion is that you can't issue a su command via java application.
    I've also tried to telnet from a console to localhost and log in as root - no joy there either.
    Would someone have information that might point me in the right direction to solve this problem? Even better, if there is a sample snippet to go along with any help.
    Thank You very much!
    Ray

    Wow,
    Thank you for the very detailed response! I read the referenced web page last night, I'll read it again today too. RBAC sounds like a pretty complicated administrative tool. Coming from the Win32 domain, most of this security stuff is sadly uncharted territory for me (except for my mac).
    Let me see if I understand your method:
    Create a role, javarole, this role needs Primary Administrator priviliges (in order to invoke "shutdown -y -i5 -g0") only available to root
    Create a powerdown profile, essentially a script:
    this line creates the file:
    # echo "powerdown:::profile to powerdown server:help=powerdown.html" >> /etc/security/prof_attr
    I think this is the actual added script: (instead of the shutdown command just use init 5)
    # chmod 755 /usr/sbin/powerdown
    # cat > /usr/sbin/powerdown <<EOF
    #!/bin/sh
    /usr/sbin/init 5
    EOF
    This line is a bit confusing to me, is it also part of the script?
    # echo "powerdown:suser:cmd:::/usr/sbin/powerdown:uid=0" >> /etc/security/exec_attr
    I see the uid=0 (root)
    It seems obvious to me that I log in a root to create this script, which is the reason it has permission to shutdown...right?
    Also, I tried the su command using runTime.exec("su poweroff"); // a user I created to try poweroff scripts
    It seems that su is generally not available, I will create the role and try to telnet to it.
    What about creating a generic user script that includes the javarole name and password, and then run the script "/usr/sbin/powerdown"
    Yes, it leaves a role password exposed, however it is a very limited role, that is not accessible by a user login, but the turn off script is available to every user?

    Ray

  • How to let users run your Java application

    Hello,
    I'm writing an application using JBuilder7 and it's wonderful designer: so far it is composed by only 2 class and imports java.awt.* and javax.swing.* (SDK 1.4)
    Now, I've yet to finish it but I was wondering: "how will users be able to use it?"
    I don't want them to install 30+ Mb of SDK so I've looked into the forums and elsewhere and come up with several answers:
    1) Let them install JRE: but it's 10+ Mb and they would need to download it separately from my program.
    2) Let them use somehow their browser's JVM..(should I turn my application into applet for this? I guess so)
    3) Make an .exe: I know there are many programs to make .exe from java but they would make a one-platform-based file.
    Also there were many hints about using .jar files to get things easier.
    Is there a 4th option in which users have to download only a few mbs to use the application?
    And about .jar, how should I use it?
    Thank you very much for all your help :)

    Simply put - the users must download or be supplied the JRE. This must be installed before they can execute your java application.
    As to distributing the application itself - You can jar (Java Archive) your classes into a single file.
    You could as has been suggested create an EXE, but these generally are very large and tend to severely restrict the range of java technologies able to be used (EG Serialization, RMI, Reflection, class loading, ...)
    Java is not intended for little tools that get installed separately - It is intended for larger applications or small applets in which case the download of the JRE is a minor concern.
    Note that applets targeting Java 1.1.7 functionality work fine with most old browsers inbuilt JVMs - Your customers browser may not however have an inbuilt JVM and the user will still need to download the JRE to execute a SWING based applets.

  • How to check if a user session is active in Java application server

    Hi Experts,
          We have a online scenario with a third party system by which a portal user will launch the third party application in a new window from portal. The SSO will work at the third party web application with the dynamic key that is generated by calling a webservice for that user. Now, as the user works on the launched screen, they will have to check whether the user (logged in portal) session is still active. ie., they will be periodically calling a service hosted by SAP java application server to find out whether the corresponding user who launched the session is still logged in or logged out.
    So, my question is, how can i find out programatically whether a user/user's session is still logged in/active in SAP Netweaver Java AS? We are in version 7.3.
    Kindly help me in this regard.

  • Java application crashes due to some problem in native  code

    Hi All
    I have a Java application that calls APIs in a 3rd party DLL(I don't have access to its source code or logs) through my VC++ DLL(Win32) that acts as the wrapper DLL.
    The Application has many functionalities and is based on multithreading (both on Java layer as well as C++ layer). Most of the functionalities are working , but when I try to close the application, it crashes.
    Moreover the crashing occurs inconstently, sometimes it does not crash. Instead of showing any debug information , it simply creates a error file with disassembly code that I am not able to understand.
    Though the error seems like an java error, but actually it seems to be due to native code. I have try catch blocks in my code and also implemented settranslator functionality to get hold of structured/C exceptions. But still I am not able to catch any exceptions.
    I am pasting the the contents of the file here:

    The JAVA Application during initialisation establishes a connection with the host server for various devices. For each of the device it establishes a separate connection and keeps listening on these connections using multithreading.
    During App close, we need to close each of these connections one by one for each device.
    The opening /closing of connection is done by 3rd party DLL and call to there APIs is done through a C++ Wrapper DLL that I have built between the Java layer and their DLL.
    When we close the Application, I am always able to close the connections on the first 2 devices. Then all of a sudden it crashes either for the 3rd device conn. close or for the 4th one. The code is the same for all the devices . That too sometimes it just goes fine without crashing. If its a null pointer exception, why is it that it crashes on some occassions and not in other times. More importantly, why is it that it does not fail for the first 2 devices , but fails for the 3rd or 4th device connection close?
    Can please anyone help me. Please suggest me as to how I can determine the cause of the error.
    And is this error really coming in ntdll.dll or is it getting caused of my dll?

    The opening /closing of connection is done by 3rd party DLL and call to there APIs is done through a C++ Wrapper DLL that I have built between the Java layer and their DLL.The specific error indicates a pointer/memory problem.
    The first place that is likely is in your code.
    The second most likely place for the cause is because you are using the third party library incorrectly. For example before exiting you are supposed to clean up resources and you are not doing so.
    As a remote possibility, much less likely that either of the above, there is a bug in jnative or in the 3rd party library.

    Hi Sujana,
    For deploying Web Dynpro for Java application, J2EE_admin correct password must be stored in the scured area of config tool.
    Your error show that J2EE_admin information is not correct.
    So, Please ask your basis team to update new J2EE_ADMIN password or you can do it in scured area of config tool.
    Hope this will helps you.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Since the exception says "Are all referenced components deployed and available on the engine?"
    Check wether any DC is used as a used DC in the webdynpro component which you are deploying.
    If any used DC is available try to deploy that DC in the server and then deploy ur webdynpro application.
    If all reference DC's are avialable in server, still if you get this error try to rename the component and reload+rebuild the project and deploy it.
    Hope this helps you...
    Regards,
    Saleem Mohammad.

  • How to Deploy Java Applications

    I have developed an FTP application. The client program is designed as a desktop application using swing. The problem here is to deploy my client program. It should work on the machines dont having jdk.

    Have a look at:
    http://nsis.sourceforge.net/
    Its a nice install script program. You can read registry variables and thus determine the JVM version. There are examples when you download it of how to determine the JVM version.
    I automaticaly detect the version, if installed. I install a new JVM if there is not one installed or its not the correct version.
    Web Start will not do it for you, as clients will not have it if they don't have the appropriate JVM installed. However if you do have a web site, then you can automaticaly prompt the user to download the Java JVM if its not installed. And then you could use Web speed.
    James.
