Detection state unknown for some updates

Hi
I am trying to run reports on whether certain patches are applicable in my estate. However, running the reports results in large number of clients reporting 'Detection State Unknown'. However, I know the client has run a scan as it has already sent back
data relating to other patches. I can also force a manual refresh of the scan using the control panel applet and check the logs to confirm the scan has completed successfuly.
However, I still receive 'detection state unknown'. This currrently represents over 50% of my servers.
Can anyone help as I am pulling my hair out with this?
Thanks

this is one I use:
Option Explicit
On Error Resume Next
Call RefreshServerComplianceState
' WScript.Echo "Finished"
Sub RefreshServerComplianceState()
    ' Initialize the UpdatesStore variable.
    dim newCCMUpdatesStore
    ' Create the COM object.
    set newCCMUpdatesStore = CreateObject ("Microsoft.CCM.UpdatesStore")
' Refresh the server compliance state by running the RefreshServerComplianceState method.
    newCCMUpdatesStore.RefreshServerComplianceState
    ' Output success message.
'    wscript.echo "Ran RefreshServerComplianceState."
End Sub

  • Adding new Updates makes Reports show compliance status as "Enforcement state unknown". Old updates are still installing though.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and resolved it?
Basically, 2012 Software Updates have been working fine for over a year. Last months Patch Tuesday updates were fine too.
However, this week I added a new update to a Software Update Group/deployment. This update did not deploy, and when I run a report, I get "Enforcement state unknown" for ALL clients in the collection. This happens to any deployment I amend. And
also if I create a new update group and new deployment - same thing - "enforcement status unknown".
However, updates previous to this week continue to download and install fine for all deployments. Deployments which I have not changed appear to continue to report correctly (unknown, compliant, pending system restart, etc).
In the SCCM console for Software Updates, the "required" and "installed" figures are still showing correctly.
Custom software packages continue to download and install too.
All servers have sufficient disk space. Most collections dont have maintenance windows, and the deadlines are correct.
Not sure what this could be, a problem with the Management Point? But I can see any errors in the "monitoring" view on the server. The client log files like "wuahandler.log" and "windowsUpdate.log" appear fine also, no obvious
    errors.
I cant see any evidence of a group policy conflict. The WSUS entry is still correct in the local group policy (GPEDIT.MSC/admin template/windows comp/ windows update).
    Any ideas here? Thanks

There were absolutely no errors in WUAhandler.log on existing machines - all looked normal, which baffled me. Machines with newly installed SCCM client only had machine and user policy update, so could not check for Software Updates.
However, I through web searches, I found a solution on another discussion here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1cefa9e0-a7f9-48d1-83b9-34d2293bab64/sccm-2012-r2-problem-with-device-deployment-user-deployments-ok?forum=configmanagerapps
Basically the issue was described as a "corrupt PADBID in the database". A SQL query code detects if the issue is present, and another SQL code fixes the issue.
What lead me to this fix was searching for this error in "CCMEXEC.LOG" online: "System task 'PolicyEvaluator_Unlock' returned error code 0x8000ffff".

  • Detection State Unknown - SCEP DEF

I have an ADR for SCEP definitions to automatically be deployed.  I'm noticing a significant portion of devices in the graph as "Unknown" (269 compliant, 800~ unknown).  My other SUGs don't have this same issue.  The last state message
from a majority of the devices listed as 'unknown' is yesterday.  Is that not recent enough for SCCM to determine if they are compliant or not?  At what point does a system become 'unknown' versus compliant or required for an update?

    Hello,
First, check if these updates are installed on the clients. Test communication between clients and MP. You can manually refresh computer settings via control panel.
Check if there is any GPO override SCCM settings.
I know communication is fine because SUG's containing Windows updates are reporting fine as far as compliant / non-compliant.  I'm wondering if SCEP is unique because of how often it's updating per day.

  • Compliance State Unknown for entire collection of servers

I'm trying to run a software compliance report for a collection of about 100 servers. The software update group I'm checking them against is for Server 2008, 2008 R2, and 2012 and 2012 R2 operating system (about 80 updates).
All the servers report as "Compliance state unknown" even though I issued update scan cycle against them and waited a day.
I checked WUAHandler.log on one of the servers and it's reporting:
Group policy settings were overwritten by a higher authority (Domain Controller) to: Server http://WSUS-01 and Policy ENABLED
    WUAHandler 6/18/2014 7:13:53 PM

Is it because these servers are configured for WSUS that SCCM 2012 R2's Compliance Reports cannot evaluate these systems to check against a software update group in SCCM?

Yes, but not your MP, your WSUS server where you SUP is.
Here are a couple of blog posts I did a while ago (they're for 2007 but are completely applicable to 2012):

  • Detection State 'Unknown' in SCCM 2012 Software Compliance Report

My management is looking for windows patches compliance reports from SCCM 2012
When I am trying to prepare Compliance Reports with SCCM 2012 for windows patches, I am noticing that I have lots of patches, where "Unknown" state is showing against many Windows Patches. I was expecting the reports to show “Not Required"
    instead of "Unknown".
Please tell me, where the issue might be and how to rectify it.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply Jorgen. Is there anyway I can initiate a " Software Update Scan on all Clients from SCCM Console? If yes, please let me steps- how?
As a test, I run "Software scan from a client and client report back to server. However on WindowsUpdates.log I can see some unhappy logs.
Does it mean that WSUS server and clients are having some issue?

That means that one or more of these apps was obtained using that ID. All apps are forever tied to the ID used to originally obtain them & they cannot be transferred to another ID. Your only option is to delete this content, then re-purchase using your ID.

I'm trying to update my Photoshop CS5, but continue to receive the same problem every time. The application manager update dialogue box simply states "some updates failed to install." There's no specific error code, but a link to contact support for further assistance. It doesn't take me to customer support, but does take me to a screen which states. "Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product." I've checked my account and the product serial number is associated with my account., so I don't see any problem.  I have not been able to find a resolution to this problem, so I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.  Thank you!

  • Hello all.   Hope someone can help me. I recently downloaded some  updates for my imac.  Since doing this the computer starts up but I get no logon box.  The home screen opens but I can't open any programs or files. I've tried rebooting, no joy. Help!!

Hello all..   I hope someone here can help.  I recently downloaded some updates to my imac.  Since then the computer starts but I get the home screen opening without the logon box.    I can't open any programs or files and if I click on the Safari tab it disappears from the dock.  I've tried rebooting with no joy.
I contacted technical help at Apple and was told to hold down the ctrl and alt keys with two other keys, I think the S or P keys when powering up. This worked
and the computer seemed fine but now the problem has reappeared.  Is there a way to removed downloaded updates from the computer or revert it to an earlier state?   Sorry for the long question. Hopefully one of you clever people can help.   Simon

Hay thank you for your time . I do that every time I know I am online. It says that I am up to date . I have found that I have 10.4.11 version, and that my boot version is 10.6.2, and that my kernel version is 8.11.1.
I have a hard drive icon on my desktop that says 10.6.2....
I use to have iphoto, it doesnt open anymore, it says there is 1.2gigs on that disk. There are many things on here that are the same way. Where do I start?
It's always good to go with one thing at a time and stay focused on that. Let's start with the OS you're running. Click on the Apple menu > About This Mac. What does it say under Mac OS X version ?

For some unknown reason I have two Apple ITunes/ID Accounts in operation.
How do I completely delete one of these Accounts?

I have a similar situation.. in my case, I started using an Apple ID a while back, then when MobileMe was introduced, I got an account there, and somehow that is the account that is mostly used when making updates or purchases.
Sometimes when making updates, it prompts me for the PW for one account, and sometimes for the other.
This is a real pain - is there anyway both these accounts can be consolidated into one?  When I asked an Apple rep, I was told 'no', but they have been known to make mistakes when giving advice.  So, is there a way?  Technically, I don't see this as a problem.. but Apple seems to be of the opinion that this would lead to having apps 'shared' amoung users. I think all that would be necessary if for me to provide the necessary proof that both accounts are indeed mine, and not belonging to someone else.
If not, what about deleting the apps registered to one account, and then re-purchasing them with the other account?  To do this, I would need to identify which apps are registered to which accouts - is this possible? Most of my apps are free, but there are a few I paid for.. not many, so this possible solution might work and not cost too much.  Ideas?

For some unknown reason my application "Remote" no longer works.  I deleted it from my phone.  Signed out of Itunes and back in.  Turned back on home sharing and all that jazz but it says it cannot find my itunes library.  Is anyone else having this problem and if so how did you fix it?  Thx.

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

does not let me add text to my verizon website. This adding text feature works well on internet explorer. I can click on add text, the box opens up but I can not type in the box for some unknown reason. What can be done to correct this problem ...

I didn't search before, but "you are not alone" (the thread [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/747424 In Verizon's Sitebuilder for webpages, I can not edit text boxes when using Firefox. I do not have this problem if I use Internet Explorer. Is there a setting I can change in Firefox to correct this problem?] has 18 votes for "I have this problem, too).
I can only guess about the reason... Firefox works with many websites' "rich text" editors, but ones that haven't been updated for five years may assume that Firefox is the old Netscape browser and use scripting techniques that don't work in Firefox.
If Verizon has a different "basic" or HTML editor that you can tolerate using, you could try that. It might not be subject to the same incompatibilities.
If I someday get a Verizon account, I will surely be looking into this further, but for now, it's hard to suggest anything else.

  • Can't see updates for some Apps

Hi! I have a problem with the Apps in iTunes.
I know that TomTom have released yesterday a new version (1.7) of all their navigators. I have TomTom Italy and TomTom Western Europe. For some unknown reason, when I checked for new updates, it only displayed the new version for the Italy app (and some other apps, of course). So I updated it, thinking that maybe the WE version would be available in the next hours. But still, after more than 24 hours, I have no updates for the Western Europe App.
I've already downloaded updates for some other Apps, so I don't know what's going on.
I've checked in the TomTom page in iTunes and the new version is there but I don't want to download it, because I want iTunes to see it, otherwise I can't trust it anymore for all my Apps updates.
What can I do? Is this a knows issue?
    Thank you so much. Bye!

    Please, can someone help me?
I'm not the only one having this problem:

  • Running SQL stored within a varchar2 for an update statement

I have a table that stores option settings for different programs that run in our system. It just has an id (number), name (varchar2(4000)) and value (varchar2(4000)). I will have one record (id=1) that stores sql code to generate a date that is converted into a character format, something like "to_char(sysdate-60,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')", and I have two records that store dates (id=2 and 3) as text.
I want to run something like "update options set value=(select value from options where id=1) where id=2;", but I know that will store my sql code ('to_char(sysdate-60,''YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'')'), and not a text-formatted date ('2009-04-16 13:04:05'). Is there any way within sql that I can use an update statement to store the results of value and not value itself? I generally use C++, so if I had to write a function to accomplish this, I would probably place it in the C++ program instead of a pl/sql function.

    "triggers...<shivers>
Are you allowed to change database-side functionality?"
For the most part, yes. We're a small group, and I still do most of the DBA work, despite being a C++ developer and having a part-time DBA. The few triggers we have created are for record id numbers on data that a customer will input through APEX, and I will have to keep those. They're only on inserts, do nothing if the id is populated, and don't exist on this table. The trigger here seems to be something deep within oracle that I cannot change.
    CREATE DATABASE LINK LOOPBACK USING '(description=(address=(protocol=beq)(program=/your/path/to/bin/oracle)))';
    UPDATE options SET VALUE = dbms_xmlgen.getxmltype('SELECT VALUE FROM options@loopback WHERE id = 1').EXTRACT('//text()').getstringval () WHERE id = 2;
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "TEST"."OPTIONS"."VALUE" (actual: 65, maximum: 55)The "VALUE" column is a varchar(4000). I'm guessing something is too large for one of the oracle functions or there is a problem with a datatype, but I haven't found any answers. Will using extract affect my data in any way, say if my formula has a less than character for some strange reason? I happened to see a comparison between extract().getstringval() and extractval() at [http://pbarut.blogspot.com/2007/01/oracle-xmltype-exctractvalue-vs-extract.html], which makes it look like EXTRACT('//text()').getstringval () will change the less than to '&lt'. I can run tests to check once I get this working, but I'm not sure I can switch the procedure to extractval().
