mount -o remount,exec /home  or similar?
Why do you have your /home mounted with noexec in the first place though? And what do you have in your fstab?
And why are you not using abs to build the kernel?

  • [solved] TuxOnIce: Can't translate "/dev/sda8" into a device id yet.

Hi all, here's the full dmesg.
This error (as shown in subject) is in line 525, but it seems sda1-9 are only mounted properly in lines 597-602. My mkinitcpio has resume just before filesystems, as shown in the wiki, and the 'lzo' module is the first in MODULES. This is a custom-compiled kernel (stripped down config, with tuxonice patch) with all the needed modules built-in for my hard disc (I think). My resume device is specified by appending resume=swap:/dev/sda8 to my kernel boot line in grub.
Anyone has any idea what's the next things I should do? Quit odd that I can't seem to resume at all.

Thank you. Am surprised this has not been fixed. Downgrading fixes, though the simple change in the wiki doesn't. I thought this was no longer an issue since the wiki mentions 5.25 as the troublesome version and we've since gone on to 5.26. Will edit wiki appropriately.

  • Mounting /dev/hda1 on home/ftp/c failed on NI-8196 PXI controller.

    Hi folks,
I am having some problems in recognising a PXI controller ( NI-8196
)  and a field point unit on my host MAX. I know both of them are
on the same subnet. I have Labview RT running on the PXI controller. I
    don't know which version though.
The problem is while setting up the IP configuration for the PXI
controller in the MAX. It doesnt take the IP from either the DHCP
server or when I use static IP's. I have already checked the Switch
settings on the controller. All of them are OFF. The BIOS option for
the IP reset has been disabled too, still the controller boots up with
    0.0.0.0
While booting up it gives me the error:  "  mounting
/dev/hda1 on home/ftp/c failed:  Invalid Arguement. Booting in
    safe mode. "
With the field point unit, the MAX doesnt recognise it on the network. it doesn't show up under the REMOTE SYSTEMS panel.
My MAX version is 4.0, Labview version on the host is 8.0
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Sandeep

For the PXI chassis, I would start by trying a reformat. RT Disk Utilities in MAX>> Create format and boot disks.

  • [SOLVED] Mount /dev/sda4 (recycled) /home, when booting

    Dear Archlinux users,
I reinstalled Archlinux with the goal to reuse my /home partition which is on /dev/sda4.
What i did was i reinstalled Archlinux with the netinstall cd, i formatted /dev/sda1/2/3 (/boot swap /root) and kept the /dev/sda4 /home folder partition.
When i boot it does not automatically mount the /dev/sda4 to /home.
How can i mount /dev/sda4 to /home at boot automatically?
    Thanks for helping
I had to add the rule to /etc/fstab
    #/etc/sda4 /home etx4 defaults 0 1
    Sorry for the inconvenience

I should have added to my posting (instead of using this "reply" -  it is the server passwork it is asking for and I have never known that I had one and assumed it was the passwork I always used for this type of thing.

Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions.  Sorry if you are past these type of basic things.  But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2?  Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet?  Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening?  Same with your Router and any other networking device being used?  Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results.  Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC.

  • "The home folder could not be created because the network name cannot be found" error in AD users and computers

Our home folders are stored on a non-windows NAS device and with Windows XP and 2003 we've always got the above error when creating or modifying users home folders, even when the shares were al ready created and being used.
However this was never really a big issue as the error that popped up was really for information and finshed with a "we've modified the user properties anyway, please create the share manually" type message.
Unfortunately now we are moving to windows 7 and 2008R2, this last part of the the message is missing and it won't accept the correct value.
This issue may be in the way that the NAS device shares the folder, as only the username that matches the folder name can access the share.  This behaviour can't be modified.
Is there a way to get Windows 7/2008R2 AD users and computers to behave the same way that Windows XP/2003 does , i.e. don't try and create the share just set the value in the user properties  ?
The AD is still at 2003 level and we can still use Windows XP/2003 clients to make the changes but this is a bit of a limitation.

The KB article is almost what we have apart from theitalic underlined
    part
    Consider the following scenario:
You use a domain administrator account to log on to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
You use the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to connect to a domain controller.
You open the Properties dialog box of a user account.
The user account has sole access to a shared folder path that cannot be accessed by the administrator account.
You set the Remote Desktop Services Home Folderattribute to the shared folder path.
NoteThis attribute is located on the
    Remote Desktop Services Profiletab.
    You click Apply or OK.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The home folder could not be created because: The network name cannot be found.
Note If you click Apply or OK again, no error message is returned. However, the setting is not saved.
I think the important bit is
The user account has sole access to a shared folder path that cannot be accessed by the administrator account.
We manually create the shares on our NAS and then just want to enter the path in the profile tab, I suppose the question is how to we stop it trying to create the shares ?

  • I'm in Lightroom 4 and trying to type text into individual slides and the text box does not let me

In help Lightroom 4 tells me to go custom text pop-up in the slideshow module and choose a metadata option. All I want to do is add some text to some of the slides in my slide show. Since text and or caption options are not avaliabe I tried using the title option which brought up a text box that I could place on the screen but NOT type into, why not? what am I missing here? Also after editing the 490 photos I want to put them onto a DVD as an OTHG 2011 file to give to my backpacking group but Lightfoom does not explain how to create these DVDs. Thanks for your help. Hart

When you set that popup to 'Title', say, the slides will get a label that is filled in from the 'title' metadata, which you set for each photo in the Library Module.
    Try it.

You can take some of the steps here, #4, #5 or even trying a #18
Step by Step to fix your Mac
but I suspect your going to first have to create a data recovery drive
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
to get your data off the machine,
then do a #20 to eliminate the bad sectors as that's why your getting the "pinwheel" it's getting a delay reading from the drive, right when your trying to log in too, what a bad spot for it to happen.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

Are you using the same ID for homesharing on all devices.
By the way shared libraries don't show up under either 'Music' or 'Libraries'.

  • Ever since I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5, sometimes when I press the home button just once it will open the app switcher or even the assistive button. Anyone else have this problem? Is it an iOS 8 glitch? Please help - very annoying.

I updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 yesterday and now when I press the home button even once, it opens the app switcher (which is supposed to only open after pressing the home button twice quickly). Sometimes pressing the home button once even brings up the assistive button (which for me should take three button presses). This did not happen before I updated my software. Has anyone else had this issue? Know how to stop it? Very annoying and at this point feel like I should have waited before I did the update.

Hello ..do you have a history on the phone? did you get it wet? was it dropped? have you been using an authentic ORIGINAL apple charging cable?
this problem occurs when there is a short circuit  in the phone... you  most likely got  it wet at some point and maybe didnt even realize it? The moisture in the phone hasb probablly  oxidized one or several capacitors, integrated chips thereby short circuiting the phone. that is why he phone  is acting erratic because these short circuits inadvertently "activates" other circuits.. eventually the phone will not turn on anymore- the heat will stress the citcuit board and you will have discontinuity along your main power lines and the phone will cease to function..i see this alllll the time in our shop
the fact you upgraded to ios6 will even work the phone harder because its a more powerful operating system taking full advantage of the A4 chip..
