Developer question. Upgraded to 6.0 - javascript:window.close() no longer works. Works OK in other browsers. Banners on popup windows also seem confusing.

Popup windows no longer close using javascript:window.close(). Have to click the "X" to close the popup.

I was able to fix the issue here. Steps Taken: From the comand line I ran
dscl /Search read /Users/jdoe HomeDirectory
It returned # No such key: HomeDirectory
This was the big clue.... it should have returned
HomeDirectory: <home_dir><url>afp://files.hihllc.lan/Users/jdoe</url><path>/</path></home_dir>
I unbound the Mac from AD and ran the following command in terminal.
dscacheutil -flushcache
I then went into OS X sharing preferences and renamed the computer slightly, so it would create a new computer record in AD. I rebound the machine to AD making sure in Directory Utility Advanced, under User Experience that Force local home directory on start up disk was unchecked and Network protocol to be used was AFP.
I then ran
dscl /Search read /Users/jdoe HomeDirectory
and it returned
HomeDirectory: <home_dir><url>afp://files.hihllc.lan/Users/jdoe</url><path>/</path></home_dir>
I had the user reboot... which was necessary. When he logged in HomeSync fired up. He had quite a few conflicts, so I told him to select use files on this computer for all conflicts.
I checked the FileSyncAgent.logs and it was good.

Window.close no longer working

Having found the following here on the forums a few months ago we have been successfully using it to close our web browser when exiting our forms application:
Web.show_document('javascript:window.opener=self;javascript:window.close();', '_self');
However, in the last week this functionality has stopped working - but only a few users PCs. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sure its a browser setting (IE6), but which one?

Therefore, if you want to permit untrusted documents to access documents in the My Computer zone, you must add the source URL in the Trusted sites zone. Do so with caution and careful thought to prevent a potential security weakness."
Since web.show_document uses showDocument, this is the same problem you faced."
So, the use of Javascript to close the browser window is something that will no longer be supported in IE when issued through web.show_document? I'm deferring to your knowledge really as I don't quite understand the implications of what I am being told.

Error when clicking other button after displaying Popup window

Hi,
I'm developing a custom page which calls a popup window in r12, below is the error encountered.
Error: Cannot Display Page
You cannot complete this task because you accessed this page using the browser's navigation buttons (the browser Back button, for example).
To proceed, please select the Home link at the top of the application page to return to the main menu. Then, access this page again using the application's navigation controls (menu, links, and so on) instead of using the browser's navigation controls like Back and Forward.
On my base page, I have other buttons like Save, Back, and the button to invoke the popup window. I can display the popup window without error, but when i clicked on the base page's other buttons after invoking the popup window, the error above is shown. I'm not clicking any browser's navigation buttons. Please let me know how to solve this error.

The error occurred because I have isBackNavigationFired checking, this becomes true when clicking the other buttons in the base page after displaying the popup. Is there a workaround where I can make this work without removing my back browser navigation checking?

Why does my javascript code work fine in all other browsers, but not Safari

Previously, I have asked how Safari handles javascript trying to resolve a problem with a slide menu, (http://www.designoutput.com/testslide.html) being directed to validator. I have corrected as many things as possible and still have code work in other browsers. Why will my code work in all other browsers (IE 5.2, Firfox, Netscape, and Opera) and not Safari. It appears that Apple would address some of the problems that people are listing. Possibly, my problem is not with Safari, but my code, if so why does it work in all other browsers. Having more knowledge of how Safari accepts code or handles code differently than other browsers would be helpful. It would be nice if I could debug my code in Safari step by step to know where the problem is at. I'm just frustrated with Safari after working on my problem for over a month. Would be very greatful to anyone that could just being to get my code to appear in Safari (only a blank page in Safari, menu appears in all other browsers)

you seem to have deleted even more end tags. elements (<a>, <div>, <td>, etc.) need to be closed (</a>, </div>, </td>, etc.) to structure the code properly.
incorrect:

correct:
document.write(<font...><b>example</b></font>)
check out w3schools for html and javascript help.
the ilayer tag should only be in your NS (i.e. not NS6) code, but it too needs to be closed.
i don't use IE, but with these fixes i've gotten your page to display fine in safari, firefox and opera.

One of my app tabs for some reason opened in a new window; how do I get it back w/other app tabs on original window?

I have 5 frequently-used websites on app tabs on my Firefox browser window. I've had these since I first saw the update about app tabs, and I have never before had a problem with it.
Today, I was working in one tab, and realized I needed to check something on the website at another app tab. I have done that sort of thing many times. But for some reason today, when I clicked on that other app tab, there seemed to be a long wait like it was working hard to make the switch, then suddenly a new Mozilla Firefox window opened with the only tab being the "another app tab" that I had clicked on.
That particular app tab is now missing from my original browser window.
I must've clicked something by accident or hit another key while I was clicking with the mouse on the app tab that I wanted to look at. I have no idea why it opened in its own window and disappeared from my app tabs on the original window.
How do I get that app tab back with the others on the original browser window? Is there any way other than simply starting over and re-pinning that site as an app tab?
If I have to re-pin it on the original window, is there a way to make that app tab the 1st in sequence the way it was before it opened in its own window? It is my most-commonly-used app tab, so I'd really like it to be the first in line, so to speak.

Make sure that you do not drag a tab in the browser window.<br />
Firefox 3.5 versions and later have a feature called tear-off tabs.<br />
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.<br />
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.<br />

There are some CSS errors in the Tools > Error Console about font instead of font-family.
Font-weight is also wrong here:

Javascript is somewhat blocked on FF 6 while works OK w all other browsers

This is a browser compatibility issue
Main menu on my index page http://www.apexservice.ru/en/default.htm is not properly activated when mouseover with the new FF 6 (menu item is highlighted but does not enable/open the submenus), while the previous FF3 & FF4, as well as IE 7,8 and Opera10 all open the submenus correctly.
JavaScript is enabled.
I did not test with FF5 though as kept using FF4 and then leapfrogged to FF6.
Any idea what to tweak?

Firefox only supports innerHTML and not outerHTML, so you need to use other code for Firefox.

JavaScript Popup Window

Hi, has anyone done an example where you are at a page, say Page1.jsp that has a text box and a button, when you click on the button a javascript popup window must open(Page2.jsp). Page2.jsp has a text box and a button. The user will enter a value in the text box and when they click the button it must close the popup window and populate the text box on Page1.jsp with the value entered on Page2.jsp.
Is this possible in JSF, I have tried but it doesn't work. On the popup windoow botton I have javascript code that saves the value in the session, submits the parent page and then closes the popup window.
On the parent page init, I look for the value saved in the session var and set the textbox's text to it. When I read the value of the text box, it is right but on the screen the value does not show up at all,
Does anyone have any idea, I can't seem to understand at all what could be wrong here.

2. in the popup window you have listbox and a button.
When the button on the popup window is clicked, the selected list item is returned.

I did a Portal application using JSF and RAD 6.0 in the Portal page I have two portlets side by side the portlet in the right side has a link to open a popup window when I click in that link and the popup window opens the portlet in the left side is showing in the popup window is there any way to tell the popup np to show the portlet on the left side. Here is how to open a TitleWindow and initialize some values
in the newly opened TitleWindow.

setParentRef that accepts a window as an argument. Store the parm

Introduction
The following is based on the 'How To Document' - 'Build Custom Popup Pages'.
This How To will show the developer how to create Modal Popup windows with the ability to pass information back to the parent window.
Example Scenario
The example described in this how to adds a custom modal popup LOV to a form on the SCOTT.EMP table. Clicking the popup LOV link on the form page will popup a Modal LOV page that allows users to search by ENAME, JOB, and SAL. Selecting a value from this LOV page will close that popup LOV page and populate the ENAME, JOB, and SAL fields on the form page with the selected values. Additionally, had the user entered some data into the ENAME, JOB, and/or SAL fields on the form page, that data would be used in the initial search when the popup LOV page is first shown.
Step 1 - Create a simple form page on SCOTT.EMP
To create the form page, simply step through the HTML DB "Form on a Table or View" wizard against the EMP table accepting the defaults. For this example, create the form with a page number of one, and make sure to allow the ename, job, and sal fields to be editable. When the wizard completes, page 1 of the application should have the items P1_ENAME, P1_JOB, and P1_SAL on it as text fields.
Step 2 - Create a popup page with search fields
Next, create a page that's to be used as the popup window: Page 2. Ultimately, this page will have javascript, a report region, and some buttons. For now, though, just create a page 2 with the items P2_ENAME, P2_JOB, and P2_SAL on it as text fields.
Step 3 - Set Modal popup page header requirements
A) Modal windows by default cache the information they display. When creating a popup window which displays different information each time it is called or to allow searching the caching default must be switched off.
Add the following meta-tag to the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen for page 2 to accomplish this:

B) Modal windows by default open a new window when running any redirect calls. When creating a modal popup which passes back parameters to the parent window. The modal window has to be forced to fire redirect calls within its own window rather than open a new window for the redirect.

Step 4 - Add Javascript call to the popup page
Because the popup page should filter its result set based on any values that the user might have entered onto the form page, you need to add a javascript function that would pass those values off. </script>Though you don't need to know how to read javascript for this example, it helps to understand that this function only does one important thing: it opens a modal popup window of page two in our application while passing values to P2_ENAME, P2_JOB, and P2_SAL. It gathers those values to pass from the names of the HTML DB items provided to it. The call to this function will be added in the next step below.
Step 5 - Add a popup link next to the P1_SAL field on the form page
Add a link to the form page that will call the callMyPopup function above and pass it the values it needs. To do so, place the following HTML in the "Post Element Text" field attribute of the P1_SAL item:

Step 6 - Add the LOV report to the popup page
The next step is to create a report on the popup page based on the values passed from the form on page one. The tricky part of this report is providing a means for the selected values to be passed back to the form page. This can be achieved by having a column of the report render as a javascript link that would close the popup window and pass the ename, job and sal values for that row back. Start by adding a simple report region to our Modal popup page that uses a query such as:

Navigate to the Page Definition for page 2
Next to the name of the report region created in step 6, Click Q
Next to the column THE_LINK, click the edit icon
In the "Link Text" field enter the string "select"
In the URL field enter: javascript:passBack('#ENAME#','#JOB#','#SAL#'); Click the "Apply Changes" button
Step 7 - Add the javascript function to the Modal popup page to pass selected values to the (parent) form page.
In the previous step you added a call to a javascript function, passBack. Now add that function to the top of Modal popup page 2. In the same manner as step 4 above, add that passBack function to the page 2 by putting it in the "HTML Header" field of the page-level attributes screen. The function should look similar to the following:

Step 8 - Polishing
The basic functionality of this custom modal popup window has been created in steps 1 though 7. To make its usage a little more friendly, it's advisable to add Cancel and Search buttons to the popup window page. The Search button should just be added as a regular button that branches back to the page 2. Adding this button allows users to re-query for LOV options without having to return to our form page. The Cancel button should be created with an "Action" of "Redirect to URL". The "URL Target" of the button should be javascript:window.close(). As the code suggests, the Cancel button would just close the popup window (with no values returned).

so please help me so that it is opened in proper width and height in mozilla.

Calendar popup window

I have searched the forums to try to find an answer to my question with no luck.
In our application, the reps need to be able to use the date popup window to specify a date range. We need the ability to choose a date range for last year and this year. We are using a model node for our data. When we select the date pop up the window only shows 3 weeks of dates. We can scroll forward and backward by months, but the buttons are not visible. We found this by accident. Is there a way to control the size, functionality and visibility of the calendar pop up window?

The fields we are using are of type date.
I also tested the change in a test project. I created a value attribute of type date. I created an input field on my view and use bound the field to the date attribue (I hope I said that right. I am fairly new to web dynpro). When I executed the test view, I got the same result. The arrows are not present and the 4th week is half cut off.
Another developer has also been researching the issue. He believes there may be a bug with the java version we are using. Is this possible? We are using Java 1.4.2 and the Web Dynpro version is 7.0.09

Windows 7 on MacBook Pro Retina late 2013. Showing popup window as "Windows detected a hard disk problem"

I have installed Windows 7 64 bit version in my MacBook Pro Retina(13") late 2013 model . It was working fine from last 8 months but recently popup window showing as "Windows detected a hard disk problem" once login. Please check the following image.
I have contacted Apple Support team. They have tested the hard disk while booting from Mac OS and all the reports showing as hard disk is fine. Then I thought might be it was some virus and removed the Bootcamp partition and re-installed Windows 7 Operating System. But once updated Windows 7 with latest updates. This message showing again.
Would you please help me out to fix this issue. Anybody faced similar issue?

When I use the Mac disk tools from the startup menu, it see also the problem.
Now the big question is : Why I've this type of issue with 2 MBA and 1 Macbook pro 15".
Their configurations are the same : windows 7 with truecrypt.
Maybe Windows drastically reduces the lifetime of the Apple SSD drive.
The 3 Mac are used for less than 6 month !!!!

Jsf with popup window jsf and .xhtml?

In main form when click on button or link, i am opening popup window , and getting values
from popup window to parent window.
Here I need to pass some parameter or value to popup window without refresh the parent.
I know with how to do jsp. but i am looking sample
how to send parameters when we use parent and popup jsf forms with .xhtml.

As you can see there is not yet a way to set the Popup size.
You have to find the good combination of fields and length in order to get a nice UI.
