Developing under SDK 3.0

I have installed the latest 10.6 OS (snow leopard, full of bugs, yuck), and have installed the latest SDK for 3.0 but now I find that my 2.1, and 2.2.1 SDK stuff is long one, and I can't seem to install them now the installer won't run. I don't care about developing under 3.0, but I don't want my apps to require iPhone OS 3.0 because there are a lot of iPod touch users who are still running 2.0 because it costs $10 to upgrade... so how do I build under 3.0 but still let it run on 2.2; where does the minimum version get specified in the build info, I can't seem to find where to set it, or how to install the 2.2 SDK...

Your issue fortunately or unfortunately (depends on how you look at it) is a very simple one. X3.2 for snow leopard does not support all or really most 2.0x SDKs, so you cannot develop your 2.0 apps with it. 3.2 is meant for developing 3.0 apps only. Go to the iPhone Dev Center and read the before installing "read me" file for snow leopard. The last two sentences of page 1 says exactly the above.
So it is simple, you need to return to a lower SDK to develop your 2.0x apps.

Once you’ve gotten logged in, go to Downloads, select “Java” on the right hand side of the page, and download the Java SE 6 beta. Note: this is only available for Intel Macs running Tiger or Leopard — if you’ve got a G4 or G5, you’re out of luck right now

IPhone development under Tiger (10.4.x)?

Hi,
I would like to start developing iPhone applications and just had a look which tools are provided by Apple for iPhone development. Meanwhile I have received the impression that all tools require running 10.5.x. Am I right, or are there also tools available which could be used together with Tiger?

Should I develope on SDK 2 or SDK 3?

I have an experience in programming, but I'm only starting to get know the IPHone development world.
Do anyone know the market share between IPhone OS 2 and IPhone OS 3?
I understand that SDK 3.0 developed apps won't run on IPhone OS 2, so I have concerns as for which SDK is better for me to start with, if I want to release the app in the middle of 2010 or before that?

Risking that you may not define 'functionality' the same, I'd say no. The 'old' OS is the old OS. An SDK is updated to take advantage of an OS that has been updated...they go hand-in-hand. That's their job and the concepts in play depend on that type of evolution.

Possible? Perhaps. The real question is if it is practical overall.
Imagine you are in charge of the OS (software) and the platform (hardware). You can spend your time just trying to squeeze more out of the existing software team, but you're sitting on some generous new functionality the hardware team wants to release. To do that, usually, you have to do much more than just 'squeeze' the current software. Do you pull the trigger and fire up the entire process just to advance the software a bit, or do you take advantage of the situation and roll out those (minor) software changes along with bigger ones as part of both an OS and SDK release or do you wait for new hardware as well? Making these types of decisions is why they get the big money
Typically, the managers in charge of such moves try to incorporate everything in concert. Users/customers have motivation to move ahead...marketing has something to crow about and all those tweaks sitting in the labs can see the light of day. Wash, rinse, repeat.
My point to the dev is to look ahead and be agressive when it comes to the SDK. Things move quickly and Apple has ultimate control over driving users towards the most current hardware and software. Devs need to take advantage of that, not constantly/specifically worry about who isn't current. My opinion of doing good for the user is to encourage them to stay current by putting out attractive apps that leverage the most current functionality...this effort isn't under Apple's direct control...it is under yours.

What to keep in mind whilie developing under the new IOS PLA

Hi everyone.
I found out the the new IOS PLA was introduced on June 2nd. I could not spot any noticeable differences from the previous one.
The fellow developers at my office are quite acquaint with the previous PLA, however the release announcement sort of created confusion among them. They all wonder what to keep in mind while developing and publishing the apps under the new PLA.

Very simply "wired for internet" just means that you have, probably, Category 5 (CAT5) ethernet cables and jacks prewired in the home. These cables should all lead to one common location, hopefully in a patch panel or box. In order for this arrangement to be of any use you need a multi-port router and/or switch. I doubt whether the contractor provides this router/switch as part of the deal. Anyway the router/switch would connect all of these cables together as well as your internet service (DSL, Cable Modem, whatever). Plugging into any of the jacks in the home would connect you to the router/switch, which in turn would issue your device an IP address and connect you to the network. Internet access, as well as file sharing, would be controlled by the router/switch. Very basic home network and nothing complicated. Your Apple TV will work just fine with this network. You could also connect a network storage device, such as a large capacity hard drive that could be shared by all users on the network. Getting more complicated involves having a dedicated server machine running OS X Server for example.

I am new in this type of development! i.e. using SDK Tools to enhance my SAP B1 functionality.
I have developed many solution using Oracle Forms Developer
Forms are highly integrated with Database and we have to just put our business logic in triggers!
Now what I have found using B1DE
Forms can be made easily using VS.Net Platform.
We can Insert data, Updated Date, Find Data ( Very Easy using B1DE )
The Problem is using SDK Tools B1DE
How can I create relationship with Tables like
I am designing a form with includes input of Items
1*** I need integrity constraints in my form e.g. with Itemcode from OITM Table
2*** Also I want to select these Items from List (using Tab functionality) not from Formatted search
3*** Also I want to add some additional fields i.e. not Database Fields
I haven't found any help from the SDN for these issues
Or
I have to do all things manually from the code of VS.Net
I have viewed third party add-ons i.e. Payroll which have all these functionalities
Like SAP B1 basic forms.
which tools they are using i.e. ( Manual coding using UI API, May be ABAP or something else or Axel Windows Components )
Or should I develop my forms in VS.Net using Axel Windows Components
I am so confused which path should I select!

Flex License for object developed on sdk 4.6.0

if I use Flex 4.6.0 Sdk for development of some charts then after development can I use swf object for selling?

I would recommend hiring a lawyer to review the licensing, but several folks sell components that extend the Flex SDKs.

i wondered weither it is possible or not to use Workshop and weblogic8.1 on Dev Stations and efficiently beneficiate of Ant technology to deploy under a weblogic 6.1 server.
Does any of you ever try such dev case ?

You need to do 1 of 2 things to get WLS to notice it has a new webapp component:
1. undeploy and deploy the webapp or
2. use the webapp component refresh tools as follows:
java weblogic.management.tools.WebAppComponentRefreshTool [options]
running this with no options prints out a usage message.

Why my LV 8.6 (Englsih version in WIN 7 English OS) can not open programs I developed under LV (Chinese version)

I just installed LV 8.6 (English version) in my new laptop (WIN 7 English OS). I found under LV 8.6 environment I can not open some programs I developed using LV 8.5 (Chinese version). These programs are saved in folders with Chinese names (subvis for some programs have Chinese names). If I take these programs on the desktop and chang the Chinese name into number or English name I can open them usingL LV 8.6. However, all Chinese words in opened programs can not be identified.
What should I do?

I was replying into a recent message thread where the user posted a VI that had some oriental characters in the VI name and I was not able to open it as a result until I saved the file and renamed it using normal alphabetical characters. It is not a problem with LabVIEW but with windows not knowing what to do with a strange character set.
The only solution I know is to go change your file and folder names so they don't use chinese characters. You could also try opening them on a chinese version of Windows. Maybe Microsoft has some download you can install that will allow english Windows to work in a chinese environment.

How to publish an application developed under eclipse in Web-to-go

I developed a program under surround eclipse. as my wtgpack does not function I am obliged of create a .jar gravel bank and script SQL how then if it is possible I can publish it under Web-to-go

Step 1. You can use free hosting Oracle Apex on http://apex.oracle.com (first you have to register)
Step 2. You have to export database objects from development environment and import to apex.oracle.com.
Step 3. You have to export Application from development environment and import to apex.oracle.com. (if you created app with Supported object option, you don't need step 2)
If you talking about non APEX application you have to install Oracle on server with Public IP and import logical backup there (use exp and imp tools)

Is Internationalization broken under sdk 1.4

Since upgrading to 1.4 I've been having problems getting hold of my default locale EN_GB.. after some digging around it appears that both the sdk and the international version of the 1.4 jre runtime only seem to contain EN, EN_US locales??
I've thrown together a webstart test for this -- which dump out the results from Locale.getAvailableLocales(); which should tell me whats installed. The test is availible here http://213.48.113.194/tmp/ click on the .jnlp file (as I don't have my own signing key, so I've inculded the source).
So far both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 both fail. Of course only do this if your webstart is using the 1.4 sdk or you've got j2re-1_4_0-win-i.exe installed.
Is this effecting other users? It's a real showstopper for us and our users.. and looks like a major blunder on Suns behalf, if true..

Right so it looks like there are issues with the 1.4 jre under windows (bug 4638772 & bug 4639932). So our multi-lingual editor application was hit hard as it allows users to edit records in a Locale of choice from Locale.getAvailableLocales().
Because we're using webstart the workaround I'd envison having to take is to create a 1.4 branch in the jnlp, take a copy of localedata.jar, sign it with our key and distribute it with our application.
Must admit to feeling wary about it's route cause though, it looks like sdk1.4 URL.getFile() now returns filenames with spaces in urlencoded form (with %20) so internally "c:/program files/java/j2re1.4.0/lib/ext/localedata.jar" is returned as "c:/program%20files/java/j2re1.4.0/lib/ext/localedata.jar" which the file routines can't handle and say dosn't exist.. How this effects other rotines and extensions I would'nt like to guess.

Apple Developer Under 18?

I wanted to sign up for the developer program but I'm 17 not 18 and I would sign up under my parent's name but the problem is I'm not going to sign up and have my apps say the seller is someone who isnt me. No matter who it is. Would I be able to change the app seller name? Hypothetically, I promise I wouldnt do this, what would happen if I did sign up with my own name? Would the contract just not be legal because I legally cannot sign for it, therefore voiding the contract and have my apps be taken down from the store?

In theory, you could make that change when you turn 18. It would probably be a real hassle though. It would be far easier to just create a new account under your name name. If you have any apps under your parents' account, you can transfer them to your account.
Since you are already 17, are you sure you really need an account? You can get most things from a free developer account. How soon do you expect to be in a position to test on a device and release something in the store?
If you do choose to go the parent route, make sure to have them create a new Apple ID for your developer activities. You don't want to mix your developer activities with their Apple ID.

Using two computers for development under one account

Overview->Development->Obtaining your iPhone Development Certificate->Saving your Private Key and Transferring to other Systems
Basically, you can just copy your developer certificate over using Keychain Access.

Solution to connection resets in SQL Developer under Windows 7

I recently ran into constantly lost connections while browsing my schema with SQL Develop. I found this Re: SQL Developer: Not able to view tables by John McGinnis how to work around this bug.
To whom it may now concern, here is the solution:
This bug has been fixed by JDBC driver 11.2.0.3 with ID 9373409 SUDDENLY JDBC THIN GOT CONNECTION ABORT ERROR ONLY WINDOWS 2008 OR VISTA ENV
I have double-checked this with My Oracle Support and it's really fixed now. Everyone should replace that JAR in the jdbc/lib dir of SQL Developer.
Saved me from sorrows.
