Development in AS10g like E-Business Suite

Hi!
Our telecommunication enterprise has paid for E-Business Suite consisting of big set of modules. Our regional department is planning to deploy many workstations working in various modules of E-Business Suite. Then our regional IT department is going to service and customize functionality of E-Business Suite for our special requirements.
On the other hand, now regional IT department have to design and develop for internal use some quite big application based on Oracle technologies including many remote client workplaces.
In order to reduce cost of learning many different technologies for administrators and developers and dealing with only non-obsolete technologies we decide to use in our application only technologies and design patterns that are common to E-Business Suite.
Now we have installed and running Oracle Application Server 10g on Windows 2003 Server and Developer Suite 10g on deveropers' Windows XP Pro. What are technologies we have to learn and use first of all?
With best wishes,
Igor Shulgin

Igor, the answer varies depending on the nature of the extensions or customizations you plan to perform on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i.
For example, if you'd like to generate custom analytic end-user reports against Release 11i, you may wish to invest in learning how to create Discoverer 10g workbooks.
Alternately, if you plan to extend existing transactional forms, you'll need expertise in both Oracle Forms and the Oracle Applications Object Library technology (and the associated database design skills).
If you plan to extend existing Release 11i web pages, you'll need to develop skills in Java, XML, and the Oracle Applications Framework technology.
Oracle University has a number of courses on these topics. I would recommend engaging an Oracle Consultant during your initial scope and requirements analysis. Oracle Consulting can do an architectural overview of Release 11i and help identify specific technologies that you'll need for your customizations, and you can arrange for training and additional Consulting help as needed.

  • Connecting Oracle Forms Developer to E-Business Suite

    Hi,
I have downloaded the Oracle DevSuite (10g) and BITools, I have managed to connect Oracle Discoverer to the db without any issues however, I am trying to connect Oracle Forms Developer 10g to our E-Business Suite 11i db and I keep getting the ORA- 01017 invalid username/password logon denied error message.
Should I be able to connect Oracle Forms Developer to the Oracle Business Suite databse without any issues or am I missing something,
any help would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks
    Chris

    Hi Chris
First, You should know that the developer certified version for Oracle Apps development is 6i patch 18 (there's a new patch 19 also). On Discoverer, it's Ok to use 10G.
Now, on the connection issue, by the message it is related to the user/pass entered. If in Discoverer You are using oracle apps integration You may be using and application user and password, but that can be used to connect to the database.
Ask in Your project for apps password (may be apps or welcome12 if and on demand environment) for the development environment, or check if there's is a custom schema defined for development and get the user/pass for that one also. You may try with applsyspub/pub meanwhile to check connection but it's a restricted user.

  • E-Business Suite - BizTalk Server Integrations

Our organization is implementing BizTalk Server 2010 to facilitate communication with an ERP under development in an Oracle E-Business Suite r12.1 “On Demand” environment. Some of the modules being developed in E-Business Suite include Payroll, Advanced Benefits, Human Resources, and AP. We are seeking information from anyone who has done something like this. In particular, we would like to know more about exposing and consuming web services to accomplish this integration. Our IT Department will be able to develop its own web services and BizTalk applications within our own domain, but we do not have experience with Oracle E-Business Suite. We understand that the Integration Repository/SOA Gateway may be used to expose some APIs but not all of them. We also understand there may be security and other issues with Oracle functionality that BizTalk adapters for E-Business Suite would have no knowledge of. To summarize, we need to know: (1) if integration between E-Business Suite and outside systems using web services and/or BizTalk has been achieved by anyone in this forum, and (2) if so, how the integration was achieved.

I think your concern is due to externally hosted EBS so that you need to find a secure way of integrating your applications hosted in your datacenter with it. The key here is to have a relaibale network infrastructure - either have dedicated network lines between your data center and on demand or have some high quality VPN between them. If you have this in place, you can treat EBS as another of your internal apps and apply the same security standards as your other internal apps if it is also supported by ebs.

  • Tools Survey: GUI Development for E-Business Suite

    Hi,
I choose four different tools that are able to create graphical user interfaces which are working in the Oracle E-Business Suite. Now I have to judge all the tools and take one 'winner'. For this I made some criteria list:
    1. Development
    1.1 Rapidness
    1.2 EBS Integration
    2. Application
    2.1 Performance
    2.2 GUI
    3. Miscellaneous
    3.1 Support of Oracle
    3.2 Community (-Size)
    3.3 Costs
    Now the four tools are:
    A Oracle Forms
    B Oracle APEX
    C Oracle Application Framework
    D Microsoft .NET Framework
I just want to ask if some users that have experience with one or more of that tools give me some judgements or hints. I want to give every tool 1 to 5 points and in the end I have a 'winner'. So it would be great if many users participate and give points for one or more tools (if possible with some small comments)... thx

Now that depends on what you want to achieve.
If you want to extend or customize a standard EBS screen, then the best way is to use OAF and Forms.
If you want to create new applications using new tables, etc that can integrate with EBS well that depends on your current skills. You can use all the 4 tools you mentioned, however using OAF and Forms (template.fmb) is recommended because it inherits Oracle EBS features as well internal libraries also it is created specifically for EBS so you can use EBS like feature like personalization or custom.pll.
However I've seen companies use other tools to create new applications, just that you might need to give more effort IMHO.

  • Developer License for DB and E-Business Suites

I was a fulltime Oracle DBA from 1982 until 2003. Since then I have only done occasional consulting, setting up RMAN, installing software, patches, etc. for Oracle products, and I no longer have a MetaLink account (disabled) as I am not currently a customer or working for a customer.
It used to be that CD Packs could be purchased (or you could download) and you could use the software for development purposes without paying for the license - under the premise of a "developer's license".
Now it seems that the "Trial Packs" are limited to 30 days and after that you have to purchase a full license.
I want to get back into my DBA role and need the software, on 64 bit Linux, in order to get back up to speed - and 30 days is not sufficient for my plans. I have never had more than fleeting exposure to Oracle financials, and I also want to install some of the E-Business Suite.
Is there sill a developer's license good for truly developing or self-training? and is there a way to obtain the necessary MetaLink account without being a paying customer? MetaLink was a daily destination for me as a DBA. I can't imagine it being any less so today.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Thank you Yingkuan. Oracle Express isn't a solution. I have worked with Oracle versions 2 through 10g and still have valid copies of 9iR2 (and others) that I could practice with. I need current, hands-on experience with the current products.
I have a 4 core, 8 GB RAM, 3 TB RAID setup with 64 bit Linux... not exactly the investment you put out for Oracle Express.
I said MetaLink was a "daily destination" (not a "day to day job")... when supporting between 12 and 20 instances, managing 3 to 4 junior to mid-level DBAs, supporting both production and development, and working with 10 or 12 developers, it always was a daily destination. Granted, there are a LOT of things answered by Google and other sites (like Werner Puschitz's site); but, Oracle is, or should be, the source.
    Thanks again for your response.

  • Learning forms development for E-Business Suite

    Hi,
I'm interested in learning forms development for Oracle E-Business Suite (specifically forms 10 as that is what I have installed on my vision instance). Other than the EBS developers guide, can anyone point me in the direction of some learning resources (books, online content etc) that I can learn forms from scratch? Specifically for E-Business Suite though as I'm aware that EBS forms development is significantly different than just standard Oracle forms.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just giving this a quick bump up as I'm still looking for information if anyone can help!?

  • Has anybody used JDev 10g to write an extension to 11i e-business suite?

We are looking to develop an application that can be called from within the menu structure of the 11i e-business suite and would like to use JDeveloper 10g.
I have read that the OA Extension for JDev 9 can be used for this, but I've also read that this OA extension has been replaced by ADF in 10g. Can we use ADF to obtain values such as user_id, responsibility_id, org_id from 11i?
Failing that, seeing as this is the only information from 11i that we will need in the new application, can we just pass these values in as parameters when initially calling the application?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we cannot find ANY documentation detailing how to link ADF into 11i.

Just to clarify OAF is not ADF.
e-Business is based on OAF right now, and the fusion generation of Applications will be based on ADF.
While OAF uses UIX and BC4J (an early version of ADF BC) it is not the same as ADF.
If you want to use OAF you better ask the question on the OAF forum on OTN.
for ADF development you should use JDeveloper 10.1.3. ADF first appeared in JDeveloper 9.0.5 but things had evolved a lot since then.

  • Run standalone applications on E-Business Suite Application Server

    1. Are there any documents available that would document best practices for such a scenario?
    2. Is it possible to create a standalone report server on the E-Business Suite reports server or is there a way to integrate the standalone application reports with the EBS report server?

  • Use of WD4A in Business Suite

    Hello,
a customer asked me where WebDynpro ABAP is used in Business Suite/ERP. I didn't find any information about this.
Do you have an overview for the Use of SAPGUI / WD4A / FPM in current versions of SAP products?
I just had in mind that within HCM many functions (for employees) are realized with WD4A...
    Regards
    Christopher

    Hi
In general Webdynpro Technologies  are used to develop the front end or user interfaces of business applications running
on sap back end system. For example if you take a business packages like ESS or MSS  the functionality is running on back end system where as the user interfaces where the users enters/views some data are developed by using webdynpro java or webdynpro abap
The front end developed by these webdynpro technologies are integrated into the SAP Enterprise portal where user login and use the applications
FPM is a kind of frame work used to develop the business packages front end applications

  • E-Business Suite Integration with Oracle Identity Federation for SAML

Has anyone developed a way to use OIF for e-Business Suite authentication through SAML rather than using the standard Identity Management stack of apps?
Today we have Oracle e-Business Suite 115.10.2 using OSSO through OID with WNA for zero sign-on (no login, just pass-through, based on AD credentials). Our domain controllers are Windows 2003 but we are in the process of upgrading them to Windows 2008 R2, where the OSSO stack is not supported unless we globally set the 2008 R2 domain controllers to use DES encryption instead of the default AES encryption. (See Oracle note 1076018.1)
When deploying OSSO, we encountered a similar issue with Windows 7 workstations would not work with OSSO unless we set the workstation policy not to use AES encryption. (See Oracle note 973190.1)
We are not inclined to continue to use DES encryption and we have obstacles moving to 11g iDM/OAM/OID from OSSO. I am exploring the possibility continuing to keep one 2003 domain controller in production, and pointing OSSO to that, until we can move to the 11g iDM stack.
Meanwhile, we have ongoing frustration with how complicated SSO is with the e-Business Suite. Sure, it works, once you climb the mountain to set it up, and we don't have that many issues in production. But the implementation of SSO for e-Business Suite is simply complex. The trip from the workstation back to an EBS session is operationally somewhat brittle. I guess some of us relish complexity. Certainly there is pride in understanding something like this. But, after a while, when the trickle of tickets from the Help Desk never completely dries up, you get tired of complexity and you seek something simpler.
    So, instead of this path:
    Workstation > EBS > OID > AD / Kerberos > Workstation
(and I didn't even mention F5 switch with reverse proxy servers ...)
    Why can't we have this?
Workstation with certificate > OIF with SAML > EBS session.
    Has anyone done that?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello JJ,
We are facing the same issue. Oracle has recommanded us to install
HTML-DB on the same database as our Apps 11i.
What we still have to figure out is whether is use APPS schema for the
HTML-DB workspaces, or use a different schema.
How is it configured at your site?

  • Adf mobile app accessing e-business suite 12.1.3

    Hi,
I'm very new with ADF development, let alone with building a mobile app. We are in an exploratory stages of building a mobile application on top of the e-business suite using ADF. Ideally, we will use the ebusiness suite login (FND USER) to login to the mobile application. I understand that we need the ebiz suite Java SDK to make this possible.
Now, our ebusiness suite (release 12.1.3) is only run through the intranet meaning no DMZ is installed to access it via the internet. The question is, if we build a mobile application, do we need a DMZ server so that the mobile can access the e-business suite in the internet? Is there any option in place other than installing a DMZ to access the application externally by the mobile app?
Any advise is going to be very valuable to us.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not entirely sure about that - there will be the requirement that your ADF (or more appropriately "WebLogic") environment will need to authenticate against E-Business Suite. There is a good (and recent!) article about that here:

You'll need to set up some type of server infrastructure that allows you to install WebLogic and an "ADF" environment to serve your mobile applications, preferably fronted by an HTTP server like Oracle HTTP Server (It's usually the HTTP Server that might be placed in a 'DMZ', with firewall rules governing how network traffic is allowed to move between the HTTP Server and the WebLogic Server.)
A good intro that can give you an overview of a deployment topology is one that I've referenced in the WebCenter documentation from time to time:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/core.1111/e12037/intro.htm#sthref47
.. there is obviously a lot more in that document than you wll be using (i.e. you won't be concenred with SOA, WebCenter or even the database), but there's a nice drawing there of the HTTP Server and a WebLogic environment to host your application and some discussion about what and when you'll want to consider clustering, etc.
    Hope that helps,

  • Integration with Oracle E-Business Suite

We're developing services around several of the Oracle APIs as part of creating resuable components in regards to our Hire process. I wanted to know if anyone had already developed canonical data models in relation to the APIs described (position, person, salary, assignment, or any financial or manufacturing related also) with the exception of just using all theAPI parameters.
[email protected] if you would like to respond directly.
    Thanks, Rob

I guess this depends on what exactly you mean by integration? What are your specific expectations here? The reason I ask is that Hyperion Planning (and I assume Performance Scorecard) can be integrated with any ledger system. It's simply a question of how you extract and load hierarchies and data. Most of my clients build custom extracts from their ledgers for the data. For the hierarchies, it's usually a combination of maintaining hierarchies manually in Hyperion Planning (or EPMA) and automated hierarchy feeds from the ledger (again, often with custom extracts).
There are adapters out there for the various ETL tools that may simplify integration, however you're still going to have to build the Hyperion Planning application itself. There is no simple integration that allows you to plug Hyperion Planning into your ledger (regardless of the version) and automatically generate a Hyperion Planning application.
The bottom line is that no particular version of Oracle's e-business suite will exclude you from using Hyperion Planning or Performance Scorecard.

  • Oracle 11i E-Business Suite Installation on Windows fails

All you Oracle 11i gurus out there, please HELP as I am at my wit's end.
I am trying to install Oracle 11i E-Business Suite (downloaded from the edelivery Website) on Windows 2003 Server with dual PIII CPU, 1GB RAM, and 150GB+ disk space.
My Oracle 11i install on Windows has been failing during Step 1 of 5 following the process of unpacking the 114 zipfiles for the 9.2.0 database even though all the diagnostic steps passed.
It appears the install is failing on the following step:
    InstantiateFile -d d:\oracle\visdb\9.2.0\appsutil\driver\instconf.drv
I have MKS Toolkit installed on C:\MKS and VC++ installed on C:\MVS\VC98.
I have renamed make.exe to gnumake.exe in the C:\MKS\mksnt folder and copied the linker (link.exe) from C:\MVS\VC98\bin to the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
The InstantiateFile step is executing some Java classes. I have also installed the JRE on C:\jre1.5.0_06, although it's doubtful this will impact the install scripts since the scripts are all hardcoded with the included JRE 1.4.2.
Why do Oracle DBAs and users deal with this crap? A software install should not be this difficult.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks to previous responder for tip regarding JDK/JRE anchor strings. I'm not sure if that is a problem. After letting the install process (java.exe) run for over an hour, I finally got past the InstantiateFile step. It looks like the process just takes a long time with no visible progress sometimes. After 5-6 hrs, it looked like the install succeeded (for the most part). There were still some errors in the error logs related to the Concurrent Manager (TNS-12541: TNS:no listener) I believe. If anyone has insight on what this error msg means, I would greatly appreciate a reply.
The other problem I am tackling right now is how to explicitly set the Forms processing mode to HTTP rather than the default socket mode. According to the 11i docs (and Forms Developer 6i docs), you should only have to set "connectMode=HTTP" in the config file, appsweb.cfg, to make this happen. However, when I try bringing up a client form, the form hangs. So, obviously, something is amiss. A related question is whether one can run Forms in only HTTP mode and not HTTPS (and thus avoid having to install SSL). I would greatly appreciate any insight from fellow users.
