Device Collections stuck with Hourglass

I did a fresh install of SCCM 2012 R2 on a Server 2012 R2 server, along with SQL 2012.
I didn't run into any real issues during the install, outside of finding various pre-requisites I had to manually add/install before SCCM 2012 would install.
At this point it's installed and I've got the management console up, however, there are a few problems right off the bat I'm not sure why would exist.
1. Device collections have hourglasses next to them. I created one new device collection that queries Active Directory, and this one is also stuck with an hourglass next to it.
"All Desktop and Server Clients" has a member count of 94 it appears, but also has an hourglass on its icon.
The new
collection I created with one Query of AD OU rule, has 0 member count with an hourglass, even though I know the OU contains like 40 computers.
2. colleva.log shows no errors but has nothing in the log for past 12 hrs or so
3. Also I have 3 Critical components and 6 Warnings. Sheesh, a bit overwhelming for a fresh install. Is this supposed to be normal or am I going to have to delve into all these logs and
reverse engineer what's going on?

Warning:

Hi,
Have you checked the log file SmsAdminUI.log? It records Configuration Manager console activity.
Maybe it can give us some clues.

  • Stuck with a message on the touch screen - checking device

This is an officejet 8500 wireless - the computer OS is Vista 64
The touch screen on the printer is stuck with a message that says "checking device"  I cannot cancel or stop unless I unplug the printer. This occured after a paper jam.

First, make sure there are no little pieces of paper left in the printer. This document can help you check it out:

If you still get the message on the screen, pull the power cord out while the printer is turned on. Wait 15 mseconds. Hold down the # and 6 keys on the front while you plug the power cord back in. This should reset the printer and, with luck, will clear the message.

  • I can't sync my mobile with laptop, and dialogue on android device gets stuck. Is this a bug?

I use my Ee PC notebook as the "main device" and have successfully synced with my other laptop. When I try to sync with Android Phone however, I don't get a 3 x 4 digit code that I should enter in the dialogue pop-up on the main device.
My Android also shows 3x4 dots where i´m supposed to enter the code. So, no code, and two empty 3x4 dot dialogue pop-ups.
Worse, the dialoge pop-up on my Android device gets "stuck", It does not respond to the cancel button and won't go away when I use the arrow back-button on the device.

Thank you for your reply. I tried to sync using the Sync key (by tapping "I don't have the device with me"), but again: the dialog pop-up on my android got stuck and I had to restart it.
Now I have trouble to log the bug to file it. I suppose I have to log the Android activity, since that is the device I'm having trouble with (syncing two laptops worked fine). But I have no idea were to find "about:sync-log" on my droid phone :-S
Hope you can help? Really appreciate it!

First we aren't Apple just normal users just like you.
Second provide Apple a feedback or send them a mail.
Third they will never send you a free iPad Air.
If you want one you have to buy it. (go for refurbished if the device is too expensive) or look for special prices.

  • Device Collections with Workgroup Computers

    Hi all,
I'm having some trouble with creating device collections for workgroup computers.
I made a collection for all workgroup computers which works great.
I also made two collections dividing the workgroup computers; one with the x86 based computers and the other one with the x64-based computers. I'm having trouble with both collections as it doens't detect a single computer.
If I make a collection for all domain x64 or x86 computers it works like a charm.
    Workgroup x64 Computers: (doens't work)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup = "WERKGROEP" and SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x64-based PC"
    Workgroup x86 Computers: (doens't work)
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.ResourceID
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_R_System.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup = "WERKGROEP" and SMS_G_System_COMPUTER_SYSTEM.SystemType = "x86-based PC"
    All Workgroup Computers: (works)

    Cheers

I also tried to select x64-based and x86-based computers based on my All Workgroup Computers collection (limiting collection). But that also didn't work out:
Workgroup x64 Computers on limiting collection All Workgroup Computers: (doesn't work)

  • Create Device Collection WITH Refresh Schedule using Powershel CMDLets

    Hello everyone
I'm attempting to create a PowerShell script to create a device collection and I'm running into a very frustrating issue.  I want to be able to set the collections refresh time but can't seem to get it to work.  This code here works to create the
collection and tell it to do incremental updates but I cannot figure out how to set refresh time.  Everything I've attempted has failed and google seems to be no help right now.
    $CollectionName = "Test"
    $CollectionQueryValue = 'select * from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.ResourceId = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.NetBIOSName in ("Hostname")' $CollectionQueryName = "Direct by Hostname"
New-CMDeviceCollection -Name $CollectionName -LimitingCollectionName "All Systems" -RefreshType ConstantUpdate
    Thanks for your help!

I haven't tried it, but the following should work:
    $Sched = New-CMSchedule -Start "01/02/2014 1:00 AM"
    -DayOfWeek Sunday -RecurCount 1
    New-CMDeviceCollection -Name "C1"
-LimitingCollectionName "All Systems" -RefreshSchedule $Sched -RefreshType Both

  • LMS 4.0: Fault Monitoring Device Administration stuck in learning

    Hello Members,
i have a problem with Fault Monitoring Device Administration. i have two devices which stuck in learning mode for almost forever. When the job is done the devices report an error SNMP timeout. I run a credential verfication job and the credentials for the devices are correct.
    any ideas?
    regards
    alex

Assuming these are the only four devices using SNMPv3 in LMS, then the engineID is a non-issue.  However, if any other device has the same engineID as those two non-working devices, the problem could still be a duped engineID.  Debugging with logs is fairly complex.  The easiest way to identify the problem is to use a sniffer.  Start a sniffer trace filtering on all traffic to one of the failing devices.  Then, rediscover the device in Fault Monitoring under Admin > Collection Settings > Fault > Fault Monitoring Device Administration.  When it goes to a Questioned state, look at the sniffer trace.
If you see SNMP report packets indicating an error of notInWindow, that points to the duplicate engineID problem.  ICMP packets without responses points to problems with ping.

  • App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon

Device : iPad Air 32gb wi-fi model (not cellular data)
OS version : 7.1.1 (up to date)
    Location : UK
Problem : App will not download to iPad when purchased from App Store - stuck with Cloud icon
Last night I tried to download an app over wi-fi onto my iPad Air, but the app did not install.
I have plenty of space (the app is 24.1mb, I have 3.4gb free space) and there are no restrictions whatsoever on my iPad - no blocks on App store purchases, no age-related restrictions, no country restrictions etc.
Normally from the App Store page you would tap the price (in this case the app was free), enter your iTunes password, and the app would download.
Also a new icon appears on the home screen and a circle shows the progress of the download.
    However this did not happen.
Instead I have the Cloud icon (the one that shows when you have bought an app but it is not currently installed on your device) and a message that says "You've already purchased this, so it will be downloaded now at no additional cost".
If I press OK I am then prompted to enter my iTunes password, the Cloud symbol briefly changes to a circle (and I mean for a split-second, like the blink of an eye) and then the Cloud symbol appears again.
The app does not download - in fact it does not even *attempt* to download.
I have tried this >20 times now and it always occurs excatly like this.
After Googling this problem (which seems common) and reading over a dozen threads on this forum plus Apple's own official support pages, this is what I've tried:
I can re-download other apps that I have previously purchased on this iPad, with no problems.
I purchased another app on my iPhone 5 and was then able to download onto my iPad with no problems.
I have reset my iPad >5 times - both by pressing/holding the home/power buttons, and also a full switch off and restart.
I have logged out of my iTunes account on the iPad, and logged back in.
The wi-fi is Virgin Media fibre optic broadband with a verified speed of 20 meg (confirmed by Speedtest) plus an 802.11-n Belkin router and my iPad will happily load web pages, stream videos on YouTube, download other apps etc.
I have reset/rebooted my internet connection
In an attempt to eliminate by broadband connection from the possible causes, I have switched off my router, linked my iPad to the hotspot feature on my iPhone and tried to download the app over cellular data, but still cannot download the app.
I have tried on 2 other wi-fi networks but still cannot download this one app.
My iTunes account has a cerdit balance from an iTunes card, but the app was free anyway
Nothing I try will download the app in question.
The app is iPad only, so I cannot install on my iPhone to try and kick-start the process.
I guess I could install the app on my computer and then sync the iPad, but that's *working around* the problem - it's not *fixing* the problem.
(Since getting the iPad I use almost never use my computer. And anyway what if I did not have a computer? Didn't iOS go "PC-free" with version 5?)
I would like to call Apple but my 90-day telephone support has expired (the iPad is around 6 months old) and I don't want to buy Apple Care for this one problem.
I can't make it to an Apple Store to speak to a Genius.
Bearing in mind the list of things I've already tried, what do I do next?
Thanks in advance for any support.

    Hi there.
Thank you very much for your quick reply, it's really appreciated.
No need to apologize, I actually found the phrase "If your iPad ever craps the bed" amusing under the circumstances
I checked the list of installed apps like you suggested (Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Show all apps) but this problem app is not in the list. I have also swiped down on the home screen to search for it, but again it does not show.
While it has not let me download the app (and I just tried it again) it has helped me to eliminate a few things from the list of what to try, and I can definitely conclude that it has not downloaded.
I guess I need to fire up my PC and download it / sync my iPad.
    Thanks again for your help

  • Need help creating a device collection based on members of a user collection

    Hello everyone,
I am working on developing a device collection based on the membership of a user collection. The purpose of the device collection is to provide us with the capability of deploying software to users while the users are logged off their systems.
I would love to use AD security groups but unfortunately that isn't an available approach in this case. I have been experimenting with SQL queries to find the best way to obtain the results I want and the following query works like a champ:
    Select SYS.Name0,
    v_R_User.Unique_User_Name0
    FROM v_R_System AS SYS
    JOIN v_UserMachineRelationship ON SYS.Name0=v_UserMachineRelationship.MachineResourceName
    JOIN v_R_User ON v_UserMachineRelationship.UniqueUserName=v_R_User.Unique_User_Name0
    JOIN v_FullCollectionMembership AS FCM on FCM.ResourceID = v_R_User.ResourceID
    JOIN v_Collection AS COLMEM ON COLMEM.CollectionID = FCM.CollectionID
    Where FCM.CollectionID = 'cha0000B'
The problem arises when I attempt this same query in SCCM 2012, I don't get any results from this query so of course it won't work to base a Device Collection from. Here is the WQL:
    Select SYS.Name,
    SMS_R_User.UniqueUserName
    FROM SMS_R_System AS SYS
    JOIN SMS_UserMachineRelationship ON SYS.Name=SMS_UserMachineRelationship.MachineResourceName
    JOIN SMS_R_User ON SMS_UserMachineRelationship.UniqueUserName=SMS_R_User.UniqueUserName
    join sms_v_FullCollectionMembership AS FCM on FCM.ResourceID = SMS_R_User.ResourceID
    join SMS_v_Collection AS COLMEM ON COLMEM.CollectionID = FCM.CollectionIDwhere FCM.CollectionID = 'cha0000B'
I am hoping that someone will be able to look at my SQL and tell me how I can get the WQL right so I can use this query properly or provide suggestions to accomplish what I need.
Thanks in advance for the assist,
    Chris Bolton

    Hi Torsten,
While your suggestion of that link was close, it still went in the direction of using security groups as the basis for device queries and that isn't the direction I am pursuing. I had a colleague look at my original query and he identified
that I had some unnecessary redundancy but that didn't resolve my SQL -> WQL inconsistency. I continued to play with the query and the following SQL also works (and actually works a bit better for my purposes)
    select distinct v_R_System.Name0,
    v_R_User.Unique_User_Name0
    FROM v_R_System
    JOIN v_R_User on v_R_User.Full_User_Name0 = v_R_System.User_Name0
    JOIN v_UserMachineRelationship ON v_R_System.Name0 = v_UserMachineRelationship.MachineResourceName
    JOIN v_FullCollectionMembership on v_R_User.Unique_User_Name0 = v_FullCollectionMembership.SMSID
    WHERE v_FullCollectionMembership.CollectionID = 'cha0000b'
however when I translate it to WQL I still am unable to get results (here is the WQL version)
    select distinct sms_R_system.Name,
    sms_R_User.UniqueUserName
    FROM sms_R_system
    JOIN SMS_R_User on SMS_R_User.FullUserName = SMS_R_System.UserName
    JOIN SMS_UserMachineRelationship ON SMS_R_System.Name = SMS_UserMachineRelationship.MachineResourceName
    JOIN SMS_FullCollectionMembership on SMS_R_User.UniqueUserName = SMS_FullCollectionMembership.SMSID
    WHERE SMS_FullCollectionMembership.CollectionID = 'cha0000b'
I think I am on the verge of getting this right but it sure seems to be a challenge. Is there a "WQL Workbench" that I could use that is similar to SQL Management Studio inside of which I could test these queries rather than having to use the rather clunky
SCCM "Edit Query Statement" dialog box?
    Thanks again,
    Chris Bolton

  • Help me in creating a Device Collection - i have a list of machine name (in a excel or CSV file)

    Hello Guys,
I have created a Device collection for UK region (2000+ machines)
Now i have been given a list of 1000 machines to which i need to deploy an application.
I have to create a device collection for this 1000+ machines. as an input i have a excel or CSV file with a list of machine names.
Please suggest me how can i create a device collection with CSV file as input. Is my CSV file should be in particular format.
Or is there any other way i can create a collection for this 1000 specific machines.
    Please suggest.

My previous post was for sccm 2012.
    here its for 2007
In the Operating System Deployment section of SCCM right click on Computer Association and choose
    Import Computer Information
when the wizard appears select Import Computers using a file
The file itself must contain the information we need in this (CSV) format
    COMPUTERNAME,GUID,MACADDRESS
    (sample below)
    Quote
    deployvista,3ED92460-0448-6C45-8FB8-A60002A5B52F,00:03:FF:71:7D:76
    NEWCOMP1,55555555-5555-5555-5555-555555555555,05:06:07:08:09:0A
    NEWPXE,23CA788C-AF62-6246-9923-816CFB6DD39F,00:03:FF:72:7D:76
    w2k8deploy,BFAD6FF2-A04E-6E41-9060-C6FB9EDD4C54,00:03:FF:77:7D:76
if we look at the last line, I've marked the computer name in Red, the GUID in BLUE and the MAC address in GREEN, separate these values with commas as above.
    w2k8deploy,BFAD6FF2-A04E-6E41-9060-C6FB9EDD4C54,00:03:FF:77:7D:76
the file can be a standard TEXT file that you create in notepad, and you can rename it to CSV for easier importing into our wizard...
so, click on Browse and browse to where you've got your CSV file
on the Choose Mapping screen, you can select columns and define what to do with that mapping, eg: you could tell it to ignore the GUID value (we won't however)
on the next screen you'll see a Data Preview, and this is useful as it will highlight any errors it finds with a red exclamation mark, in the example below a typo meant that it correctly flagged the MAC address as invalid
so edit your CSV file again and fix the error, click previous (back) and try again
Next choose the target collection where you want these computers to end up in
    review the summary
in SCCM collections, we can now see the computers we've just imported from File,
    Enjoy
