Devices from hub cannot see NAS attached to router

I have a router behind my BT Hub.
I have a NAS connected to the router. The router is setup as a router, not an access point.
My question now is, how can I "see" the NAS with devices connected to the hub (like my laptop)?
My setup:
NAS___________ [ D-link router: dir 655)  ] ___ >ethernet< ____ BT HUB3

How? Why? sorry this might appear to be dumb question, are you using it as a switch or some sort wireless extention.

Why?
The diagram gives the physical setup doesnt explain how you've managed to actually get this to work. Anyway the issue is possibley due to Multicast Broadcasts which the NAS will rely on.

My MacAir cannot see the same WiFi router twice, why?
So if it gets connected to a WiFi then gets disconnected for any reason, I cannot reconnect it to the same WiFi again as it cannot see that specific router again.
Unless, in my case, I turn on my Galaxy note 10.1 Tethering hotspot which it sees ALL the time then the Wifi router shows again so I can reconnect to it.
This happens at home and at work and at any other place... so No, there is no problem with my router or WiFi connection.
it is really getting to my nerves.
the whole purpose of me getting a MacAir is the light weight!
Now I have to carry my Galaxy Note 10.1 around with me, especially if I am going out, so I can get connected to WiFi!!
    Can anyone help me out!

Try the following on your MBP, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Windows 8 Explorer cannot see NAS drive on WiFi connected laptop

I have several devices on my home network. Windows XP PC's, Windows 7 PC's, Android tablets, and 2 Windows 8 laptops.  All the devices can see the harddrive attached to my WiFi router except for one of the Windows 8 laptops and I can't seem to figure
    out a solution.
That laptop, compared to all the other devices, connects by a Wireless G adapter vs. Wirless N for everything else, but I don't think that's the problem.
It CAN access the NAS drive through Windows Media Player, however, only media in that case and not documents.
Why can it see the drive through WMP but not Explorer???  ...and what's the fix?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
The laptop has a Windows 8 32-bit upgrade installed.
Windows Explorer shows the Media access for the drive, but not the drive itself.

For a regedit newbie, can you please provide step-by-step details how to: "create a new DWORD entry with the name EnableLinkedConnections and value 1". Is this a new line to be
    inserted? Thanks.
Below is my situation. I posted an earlier version of this query on Microsoft Community and was advised to move to here on Technet.
    I am having trouble mapping
and connecting shared drives on my NAS using WiFi. I have three new Acer i5-4th Gen laptops running Windows 8 with Intel 7260-N WiFi cards and Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 loaded. My NAS is also new. It is a Zyxel NSA325, replacing a
WD My Book World Edition. The hard drives from two such WD boxes went into the Zyxel. So I do not have another NAS on hand to test. My router is unchanged. It is a Netgear WNDR3700v1 pre-MIMO dual-band N-router.
One of the new Acers is a V7-482PG-6662. The other two laptops are M5-583P-6428 machines. The Acer V7 never had a problem with connections – neither via Ethernet nor via WiFi. Both
M5’s had troubles at first via WiFi. Then I got one to work. But the second Acer M5 stubbornly only connects reliably via Ethernet; the NAS only shows reliably under Network on File Manager when using Ethernet. Maybe one in five times that I reboot with WiFi,
can I see the NAS under Network on File Manager.
I also have an old Dell Win-7 Ultimate desktop. It has no problems connecting via shared drives to the NAS via WiFi. I also have an old WD TV-Live Plus attached via Ethernet that accesses
the NAS via Media Server, not via Network Shares. All PCs plus a Samsung Android Tablet can see / access the NAS reliably as a media server over WiFi.
I went through many, many recommendations from the internet, trying to fix the WiFi problem for the Acer M5s. For example:
Turn on various or all Advanced Network Sharing options, e.g., Discovery and File Sharing
Make sure that Client for Microsoft Networks is on
Set up and reset Windows Credentials for users
Enter net config server /autodisconnect:-1 as admin
Make sure that Network List Service is started on automatic (as well as not on)
Tried using Net Use commands to map the drive, but got error message 53s
    Updated WiFi card drivers
Multiple cycles of closing down all network advanced sharing settings, then uninstalling and reinstalling network adapters via device manager, then opening up all network advanced sharing settings (as described
in the technet item: fix-for-cannot-access-nas-drives-sharefolder-is-not-accessible-or-error-code-0x80070035 ).
Various cycles and sequences of rebooting and leaving machines on with the hope that they would connect.
I have not tried any of the advice about reg editing or setting different MTU values. Most of such advice online dates from 2009. And it was not needed to get the one Acer M5 machine
    working.
After cycling through the items above, the one Acer M5 started listing the NAS occasionally under Network in File Manager. At first this only happened in like 1 in 20 reboots. But
I started getting luckier. And after one round of closing down shares and reinstalling adapters, it started to work reliably. And has kept working ever since.
I now have the second Acer M5 connecting via WiFi in about one in five reboots. But this is not satisfactory. Normally, the NAS only shows under Network on File Manger, and only allows
drives to be mapped, when the laptop is connected via Ethernet. I tried comparing adapter settings between when using Ethernet and using WiFi (for example, that the same Microsoft LLDP protocols are ticked). I also put both Acer M5s side by side to compare
settings. I also tried repairing Windows 8 and reloading all Windows updates. But I have not thus far gone all the way back to a complete Windows 8 restore to factory conditions.
    Advice, help please, thanks.
    Wait for Win-8.1?

  • Cannot see NAS on my local network by its name (Linksys EA4500)

    Hello,
I have just bought a new EA4500 and set it up at home. Most things worked like a charm except one. I can no longer see my Synology NAS on my home network byt its name.
I have the router connected to internet (local ISP, PPPoE). I have the NAS connected by wire, two Windows 8 PCs connected wirelessly. There is also a TV (wired connection), a printer, some Windows Phones and Kindles. One of the PC cannot see the NAS (the other can). It can connect to it by its IP (in browser, by ping), it can see its media server (I can play music from the NAS in my Media Player), the TV sees the NAS as DLNA media server... But the PC cannot see the NAS by its name.
If I list connected devices on the router settings, I can see the NAS and its name. But the PC cannot. What is wrong?
Both PCs have file sharing turned on. I have even SSH'd to the NAS ind successfully pinged the PC by its name. For full disclosure, the PC has VMWare installed with Windows 7 virtual machine.
I made no settings to the router other than going through the Cisco Connect wizard and disabling guest wifi.
Thank you very much for any suggestions.
    Solved!

Thank you. Restarting everything didn't help. It happed to be solved by itself later on. I was fiddling with wifi settings and set (and unset) FIPS. Then it worked. No idea if it was a coincidence.

  • Cannot see NAS units after upgrading to Airport Time Capsule.

I just upgraded my router from a D-link DIR 655 to a new Airport Time Capsule and I cannot no longer see access my Drobo NAS units.
    http://www.drobo.com/products/professionals/drobo-fs/
I am using Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5.  I know when using OS 10.8.5 I have to ensure that DDServiced and DDServiced64 are Allowed.  I have done this in the routers settings.
    http://store.apple.com/ca/product/ME177AM/A/airport-time-capsule-2tb
I cannot see the NAS units on my PC (Windows) either.
My internet works (wirelessly and physicall) so the router is connecting to my modem correctly.  However I cannot access these NAS units nor their shared holders on any comptures or wireless devices in my house.
Is the Airport Time Capsule the issue here?  Is it compatible with the Drobo FS NAS?
    Thanks

I am running the latest version of Drobo Dashbloard on both my Mac and PC 2.5.2.
I only see DDServiced64 under Apple Symbol to top left of Menu\System Preference\Security and Privacy\Firewall\Firewall Options.
Given that I cannot see the Drobos on either my Mac or PC I am wondering if:
    1) is the new Apple Airport Time Capsule causing problems; or
    2) is the Norton Antivirus that is on my PC conflicting with a setting on the Apple Airport Time Capsule
None of this was a problem when I used the previous router (D-link DIR 655).  I could access both Drobos on both my Mac (wirelessly) and PC (physically connected to the the same router as Drobos via network cables).
When I was using my D-link DIR 655 I was using DCHP and using static IP Addresses for all my devinces in my house.  Now when I changed my router over to the Apple Airport Time Capsule I did not opt to use DCHP.  Could this be an issue.  Note I am not having any problem with any of the other wireless devices in my house.  I can see all my Sonos wireless music equipment.  However I cannot see the two Drobos that are physically connected to my Apple Airport Time Capsule.
    Thanks

  • Windows 8.1 cannot "see" NAS under Network in MyPC

So we purchased and set up a NAS recently.  It works perfectly and is UNIX based and has SAMBA enabled.  So here's the kicker:
    * Windows 7, No issues - NAS pops up under Network automatically.
    * Windows 8.1, It never pops up under Network
    Windows 8.1 Troubleshooting
    * No Issues for pinging the IP address for the NAS
    * No issues for pinging the server name for the NAS
    * Turned off the Windows Firewall - Still cannot detect the NAS
    * Using the Control Center software for the NAS, it can detect the NAS by IP and server name.  Also via the Control Center (which is an administrative console) I can log in so its not a credential issue)
    * Flushed and re-registered DNS, no effect
    * Both computers are in WORKGROUP
    * Both computers are set for NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
NOTE: I'm using Windows 8.1 Home so I can't access local policies or connect to a Domain (even if I had one)
There's probably something in Windows 8.1 that I'm missing but I'm just banging my head here.  Help!

Hi there so I've taken a look:
    * When I open a command window, I can ping the IP and the computer name of the NAS
    * But when I look through a browser\windows explorer\My Computer and punch in an IP or computer name, it can't connect to it.
    * Nor does it show up under Network (Places)
    After checking
    * Network Discovery is ON
    * File and printer sharing is ON
    * I've updated the network wireless driver in Windows 8.1 as well - No effect
I know its not a firewall issue as I temporarily disabled the Windows firewall - no effect.  Its not a routing issue since I can ping the NAS from a command windows and my Win 7 box is on the same network as the 8.1 box
Is there some Windows service that is required somewhere?

I bought a movie via itunes but i cannot see it. why?

When did you buy, and what did you buy it on (computer, iOS device), and by 'cannot see it' you mean ... ? If you've just bought it then it should have downloaded onto the device/computer that you bought it on - so into the Movies part of your iTunes library if using your computer, the Videos app if using an iOS device.
If it's a film that you bought it in the past then you might not be able to redownload it if you've changed countries since buying it, the rights-holder doesn't allow redownloading, or if it's no longer in your country's store.

hi my bluetooth cannot see the other bluetooth devices. When it is picked up by a different device tries to pair with it but the pairing does not occur. what can I do apart from throwing this **** thing in the bin?

It isn't supposed to pair with the MacBook.  You can use WiFi to connect but not Bluetooth.  You can setup a personal HotSpot on the iPhone and connect the MacBook, or setup the MacBook AirPort to create a network and attach the iPhone, and use the USB cable to connect the iPhone to the MacBook for syncing and backup purposes.
    The communications are rather limited.

init.ora file has *.asm_diskstring='/dev/rdsk/emcpower*', so I assume it will scan all
/dev/rdsk/emcpower* softlinks and fetch the ones with sufficient permissions. But nonetheless
a 'select count(*) from v$asm_disk' gives me 0, i.e. nothing.
I've just read some recommendations of using slice 6 of the disk with partition type 'usr', but
this seems to me quite superficial. I would like to use simply slice (=partition) 0 starting from
    cylinder 1.
I would be very glad for any solution.
    Best regards
    Udo

    Problem solved.
After some tests with plain files instead of devices via undocumented parameter
asmallow_only_raw_disks=false in order to check ASM functionality,
I've finally created new node devices only for oracle (and set_asm_allow... back to true).
original EMC PowerPath pseudo devices (e.g.):
    -bash-3.00$ ls -l /devices/pseudo/emcp@13:a,raw
    crw------- 1 root sys 215, 832 Dec 10 15:29 /devices/pseudo/emcp@13:a,raw
corresponding new character device with proper ownership and permissions:
    -bash-3.00$ ls -l /u01/app/ora-dev/raw/emcp13a
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 215, 832 Dec 10 14:56 /u01/app/ora-dev/raw/emcp13a
    With *.asm_diskstring='/u01/app/ora-dev/raw/emcp*' in ASM-instance's init.ora,
I was able to see the devices via select * from v$asm_disk and could create the
    ASM diskgroups.

  • After upgrading to Yosemite I cannot see my other iMac at home (note I am at work) in the Finder window shared devices.  Note my iMac at home is connected to an airport extreme (as is my work iMac) and I can see both airport extreme.

Aftger I upgraded to Yosemite I cannot see my iMac at home from my work (i.e in Finder window under shared devices).  Note both my work and home iMac are connected to time capsules and I can see both of those time capsules but I cannot see either iMac from the other location.  My guess is that the time capsule is blocking the connection to the iMac.  One last comment occasionally (5% of the time) my iMac does magically appear in the shared Finder window but this is extremely rare.  Any help????

Just discovered this one myself.  OK, this may sound silly but place your cursor next to the word "Shared" on the finder sidebar.  The "hidden" command "Show" will magically appear.  Clicking that will display your other network attached devices.
This appears to be a new "feature" that some freaking genius thought was some how "Cool".   My only assumption is that Apple programers expect users to randomly move their cursor around the screen in hopes of finding some critical function like looking for an easter egg in their favorite game.

  • Can't see all devices from one AccessPoint to another? What is best setup to extend wireless coverage?

We have just moved into a new apartment with concrete walls, hence WiFi signal is quite weak in the other end of the apartment.  Not all devices can see each other depending on which AP i am associated to.
Basically I want to have any wired/wireless devices be able to see my NAS/Office based components and keep the LivingRoom tidier.  Only device in LivingRoom will be ISP components and AppleTV.
Some additional notes on current setup
    - LivingRoom has the ISP issued Router/AccessPoint
    - the ISP Router/AP is currently setup as a) AccessPoint b) DHCP server and c) default gateway to get to the Internet
    - LivingRoom AP SSID is 'LivingRoom'
    - DHCP pool is on the 192.168.1.0/24 range
    - Default GW is 192.168.1.254
    - in the LivingRoom i am also using the Router/AP ethernet ports for AppleTV
    - connected to the Router/AP is a long Ethernet cable to the other end of the apartment in the Office
    - on other end of the long Ethernet cable is an Airport Extreme in the Office on the WAN port
    - the AirportExtreme is setup in 'Bridge' mode
    - Connected to the Office_AirportExtreme is a) a NAS device physically in the Office via Ethernet cable b) WebCam in BedRoom2 via WiFi
    - Office_AirportExtreme SSID is 'Office'
    - all devices confirmed are assigned an IP from the LivingRoom Router/AccessPoint and on the 192.168.1.0 pool
    - at this time in only have WebCam and NAS however Plex and Desktop coming shortly as we are still unpacking
    Issue
    a) When my laptop is associated to SSID 'Office' i can see the NAS and WebCam; able to PING and hit via HTTP
    b) When my laptop is associated to SSID 'LivingRoom' i CANNOT see the NAS/WebCam;  I am unable to hit the two devices behind the Office_AirportExtreme via PING/HTTP and I am able to surf the Internet, however cannot see the NAS/WebCam
    Question
    a) is there some other config on the Office_AirportExtreme that must be done to disable any Firewall type capabilities that is limiting the ability for devices on other side of the Office_AirportExtreme from seeing the devices behing the Office_AirportExtreme?
    b) is this ideal config?
    c) is it typical to have different SSID?  would like to get to just single SSID for the apt, however not sure if there will be conflict i'm not aware of.
Totally open to any suggestions on others that have done this before to avoid reinventing the wheel...
    See pic below...
    Thx -Ray

Note that after additional poking around and disabling Wi-Fi all together confirmed that when wired to either the ISP Router/AP or the Office_AE, i am able to see both NAS and WebCam behind the Office_AE.
The issue seems to be with the ISP Router/AP where by there is a difference in behavior when connected via Wi-Fi vs Wired.  All is well with the AirportExtreme from what i can gather.
i'm just going to pickup a separate Wi-Fi access point to provide coverage for the LivingRoom area instead of trying to figure this out further.
FYI.  I am in Singapore using SingTel Fiber service and the ISP Router/AP i am using is Aztech DSL7000GRV(S)

  • Files saved to iomega NAS device from Mac not visible to PCs

I'm using my MacBook in a primarily Windows environment at work. We have an Iomega NAS device for our network file sharing.
Some, but not all, of the files I save to the network share from my Mac are not visible to PCs. Am able to see all the files out there saved by the PCs via the Mac, but not all files saved by the Mac are visible by PCs (ie, they show up in Finder/Mac but not in Explorer/PC).
    Details:
    - Mac OS X 10.6.2
    - iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage Device (NAS)
    - Netgear Router (details unknown)
All other network works fine from the Mac -- can see shared PCs, can use network attached printer, access the Internet, see all the shared folders on the NAS device.
Happens with all types of files (MS Office documents, JPGs, GIFs, PDFs), but not for every documents. Probably 3 out of 4 documents saved to NAS device from Mac are visible to PCs on the network, and 1 out of 4 is not visible.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

OS X 10.4.8 update has not altered the behavior of this bug. The Office 2004 11.30 update seems to have caused the problem to happen less frequently. I would say it now happens half as frequently.
