Dhcpcd hook problem: start python script within hook
Dear fellow Arch fans,
I'm encountering a rather annoying problem:
When I lose my internet connection my pidgin client doesn't get 'informed' about this and I won't receive IMs for an unspecified amount of time. I thought that I could work around this by myself, therefore I wrote two scripts in Python which connect/disconnect all active Pidgin-accounts using DBus. Both of them work fine. I also wrote a dhcpcd hook which should "listen" for a "NOCARRIER" and a "BOUND" reason which for itself also works fine (puts some output in a logfile).
The problem now is to invoke the python scripts from within the hook. My hook looks as follows:
lf='/var/log/myhook.log'
case $reason in
NOCARRIER)
echo "nocarrier branch" >> $lf
sudo -u os python2 /usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks/\
scripts/pidgin_dbus_discon.py >> $lf
BOUND)
sudo -u os python2 /usr/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-hooks/
scripts/pidgin_dbus_con.py >> $lf
echo "bound branch" >> $lf
echo $reason >> $lf
esac
A sample output from the logfile /var/log/myhook.log after two cable pulls looks like
nocarrier branch
CARRIER
bound branch
nocarrier
CARRIER
bound
But even on unsuccessful invocation the pidgin_dbus_con.py-script should at least print
con-script started
con-script finished
Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be here?
I would appreciate any help!

If I enable dhcpcd like this: "systemctl enable dhcpcd", i.e. w/o using an interface name, it kind of works:

But it takes several minutes to obtain an IP-address.

Problem with python script [solved]
I've been trying to run this script (with wlan0 as my interface) and it spits this out. I'm guessing this is due to some sort of syntax problem and should be pcap.somethingelse(interface) instead of pcap.pcap(interface) but I have no experience with python so I'm totally clueless.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "mediaripper.py", line 143, in <module>
pc = pcap.pcap(interface)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'pcap'
Edit- NVM, I just had the wrong version of pypcap installed.

Problems starting server from within CFBuilder
I recently installed CFBuilder and setup a localhost server. I did not check the box to Use Windows Service to start/stop in the server setting. I currently have the CF Server set to manually startup in the Windows Services. When I finished the setup, I see the server starting up in the CFBuilder console. Everything seems to work fine until I restart my machine. Once I restart my machine and run CFBuilder, I cannot start the server from the Servers panel. A messages in the console comes back stating that the server is unresponsive. I thought it was my java version, so I updated the java to the latest 6_19. Still the problem exists. I uninstalled CFBuilder and reinstalled it, and it works fine (CF Server starts up in the console) until again I restart my machine.
I do have Windows Vista 32-bit. I downgraded back to Java version 6_06. I thought the problem was just my machine, but I have another Vista machine that is having the exact problem, and it has the same JAVA and Vista.
I looked through the Coldfusion Logs to see if I can find any errors. I have tried to find logs in CFBuilder, but I have not been able to locate any.
Any Ideas?
Thanks for your help!
AndrewHi Sam,
Unfortunately, this feature does not exist in Workshop 9.2
Regarding your question about redirecting the output, the logs are saved under the domain directory.
You could also refer to the following section for additional info on redirecting the output to multiple destinations.
http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs90/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/logging/RedirectJVMOutput.html
Hope this helps.

Open a python script containing bundle... problems!
I'm not sure how to extract the bundle from this python script. I won't go into much detail, but you can look at this example project I found that can replace InstallerPluginSample with python to create a bundle file. Your help will be much appreciated

Is there a way I can call a python script from within a Robohelp script?
Hi,
I want to integrate an external python script into the current extendscript I use in RoboHelp 10. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks,
LaurenYou can use the command line to call any kind of external application.
Personally, I use the following function to create bat files to do such
work.
I've taken these functions from my free RH Extendscript library -
http://www.wvanweelden.eu/product/robohelp-extendscript-library
function ExecuteBatchFile(command, waitforbatch) {
if(string_isEmpty(command))
return false;
if(!waitforbatch) {
if(waitforbatch != false) {
waitforbatch = true;
var path = Folder.appData.fsName + '/';
var batFileName = 'ExtendScriptBatchFile';
var batFileExtension = '.bat';
var batFile = new File(pathbatFileNamebatFileExtension);
if(batFile.exists) {
var i = 0;
while(batFile.exists) {
i++;
batFile = new File(pathbatFileNamei+batFileExtension);
command+= "\ndel /F /Q \"" + batFile.fsName + "\"";
writeFile(batFile, command, false);
if(!isFile(batFile, true))
return false;
batFile.execute();
/* Wait on batch file execution if needed */
if(waitforbatch) {
while(batFile.exists) {
msg(".");
$.sleep(100);
return true;
function writeFile(file, szOutput, encoding) {
var szFilePath = file.fsName;
if(!encoding || encoding == true) {
encoding = "UTF-8";
var fileObj = new File(szFilePath);
fileObj.encoding = encoding;
fileObj.open("w");
fileObj.write(szOutput);
fileObj.close();

Python script named in output of ps -u user
Does anyone here know how I can have a Python script report it's name in the output of "ps -u user", instead of just showing up as "Python"?
Reason I'm asking is that I just found this nifty little menu program called pytmenu on the Ubuntu forums, and I want it to start in the center of my screen. Problem is, I'm using Evilwm, so I can do it either with switches passed to Evilwm or Devil's Pie, but I need to know the programs name to do it. Passing "Python" as the name will probably not get me the results I want.oh. also.. if you want to change the process name from within python..

Need help with python script for Deluge
I am using Deluge 1.3.2 with web server, and all works fine, I use this script in the Deluge settings to execute upon torrent completion:
#!/bin/bash
torrentid=$1
torrentname=$2
torrentpath=$3
torrenttimedelta=`/usr/bin/python2 /home/bobby/scripts/deluge/torrentTimeDelta.py $1`
subject="Started download new torrent!"
message="$torrentname to $torrentpath"
echo -e `date`"::Finished downloading torrent:$2 in: $3" with id:$torrentid >> ~/logs/scripts.log
echo -e `sendEmail -t [email protected] -f [email protected] -u "deluge server notification: torrent $torrentname is complete!" -m "$torrentname has completed downloading at: $torrentpath and took $torrenttimedelta to complete :)" -xu [email protected] -xp password -v -o tls=yes -s email.com` >> ~/logs/scripts.log
echo ---------------------------------------- >> ~/logs/scripts.log
This is to email me when a torrent is done and works. What I wanted to add to this email was the time taken to complete the torrent. I have gotten help from Deluge forum in this thread: http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtop … =9&t=36989 However I think it's something with Python within Arch that is the obstacle, and so that helpful person can't do much more IMO. The python script I'm using is:
#!/usr/bin/python2
from deluge.ui.client import client
from twisted.internet import reactor
d = client.connect()
def on_connect_success(result):
print "Connection was successful!"
def on_get_torrent_value(value):
for torrent in value:
print "%s: %s" % (torrent, value[torrent]["name"])
client.disconnect()
reactor.stop()
client.core.get_torrents_status({}, ["name"]).addCallback(on_get_torrent_value)
d.addCallback(on_connect_success)
def on_connect_fail(result):
print "Connection failed!"
print "result:", result
d.addErrback(on_connect_fail)
reactor.run()
Now if I call this from shell directly, it works. However, including it with my email script at the top, Deluge itself freezes and no email is sent. I run ps aux | grep deluge and I can see that the script has run, but apparently died and all is just hanging. I kill the script process and Deluge resumes just fine, the email is sent. Kinda confused how to remedy this, appreciate any help Thanks
P.S. When I get the email, the part that says ""$torrentname has completed downloading at: $torrentpath and took $torrenttimedelta to complete "" shows nothing where $torrenttimedelta should be, it just says "and took to complete"[edit] Sorry, I don't use deluge and I messed up my test script. If the script is executable try `/home/bobby/scripts/deluge/torrentTimeDelta.py $1`
Are there any other errors? or try running bash with debug output to see if it will tell you something else
The problem you are having is bash doesn't recognize variables inside the tick marks.
Hope that helps

Run Python Script in Automator
I have a python script (which was written for me), and I would like to make it so that the script executes every x minutes. I know this should be simple to do, but I can't figure it out.
Thus far, I have created a workflow in automator, used the "Run Shell Script" action, and pasted the script into the text field.
"Workflow failed - 1 error

On my MacPro with10.7.3. while running a Python script in terminal, after a while, in several hours actually, I see a system message for the Terminal app: "There is no more application memory available on your startup disk". Both RAM and VM appear to be fine at this point, i.e. Python uses only 10G of 16G RAM and VM =238G with ~1TB free. Log reads: " macx-swapon FAILED - 12" multiple times. Furthermore, other terminal windows can be opened and commands run there. It only happens with larger inputs (text files), but with inputs that are about half the size everything runs smoothly. So the issue must be the memory indeed, but where to look for the problem/fix?
http://liulab.dfci.harvard.edu/MACS/README.html
Have you tried with the --diag flag for diagnostics? Or changing verbose to 3 to show debug messages? Clearly one of three things is happening;
1. You ARE running out of disk space, but once it errors out the space is reclaimed if the output file is deleted on error. When it fails, does your output have the content generated up to the point of termination?
2. The application (Terminal) is allocated memory that you are exceeding
3. The task within Terminal is allocated memory that you are exceeding
I don't know anything about what this does but is there a way to maybe run a smaller test run of it? Something that takes 10 minutes? Just to see if it works. -
Start up script fails; Unable to boot...Please, Help.
This is my first major problem that I have had with this computer. It has been running fine until this past Sunday night. I was running AOL, Firefox & iTunes. The computer was running slow and iTunes was skipping frequently. I rebooted and resumed my activities only to have the same problems and the computer booted slower than usual. I closed all my applications and rebooted once again. Then, I ran Disk Utility had used Verify Disk. It found an error on my system volume stating an incorrect block count in one sector and referenced a file cache_003, all other volumes passed. Disk Utility was unable to repair the volume. Repair Disk ran slow. I did a search for the file cache_003 and discovered that it was part of a Netscape profile back up on a different partition. I deleted the profile and used Disk Utility again. This time, the system volume passed and a different volume failed due to incorrect block size, Repair Disk failed. The next time I tried to boot the computer the gray screen with apple and loading indicator came up and stayed for several minutes followed by a blue screen with loading indicator for several minutes and stayed blue for nearly 40 minutes. Eventually, the screen went black and displayed that the start up script failed. Here is some of what was displayed.
Darwin/BSD(Computer Name-Computer.local)(console)
System Starter[35]
login date&time Internet Sharing[96]:Libinfo[Socket_open():2318]connect():2318]connect:()connection refused (This line repeated continuously)
I am able to input commands at this stage but I am not knowledgeable enough to know what to do.
When I push the power button to turn it off the computer beeps once and the led light flashes three times and turns off.
Each time when I attempt to boot either into Safe Mode or from the Software Install DVD I encounter the same problem.
Now, Monday night by chance on another boot attempt the computer started up although it took about 20-30 minutes. It was missing one volume which showed up in Disk Utility under a different name. While I had the computer up I backed up what I could on the volumes that mounted. One file I was unable to burn using Toast 9 due to a data fork error. The computer eventually froze during my activities and since I have had no luck at my start up attempts and have had the same problem. Luckily, I was able to back up everything I needed with the exception of what was on the AWOL volume.
The last thing I had installed recently was the latest Security Update which went fine and was two days before the trouble started.
I am at a loss for what to do next. I would like to retrieve the files on that one volume but at this point if I can start up I would just like to reformat and install the OS.
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated. Thank you.Well, originally when I ran Disk Utility, although it performed slower than usaual it found the error as previously mentioned and was unable to Repair Volume. As to using the Hardware Disc & Install Discs(original & Tiger) the computer failed to boot although you could hear the disc spinnning for awhile. In both and every instance regardless of any or no disc, the computer starts the boot process and you see the gray screen with white apple and loading indicator for about 3 minutes then it switches to the blue screen with loading indicator. After quite some time the loading indicator goes away and it's just a blue screen for nearly a half-hour followed by a black screen which starts the above prompt. I can post all of what that said later as I have written all of it down at home, a portion of it is in my original post. The start up chime doesn't sound at all. I do get a tone and flashing LED lights when I hold the power button down to turn it off after the above described boot process. There is not much I can do except try and try again. I may need to get a new hard drive but I would like to resolve it without doing so if possible. When trying to boot from both discs I was holding down the C key as directed and I have tried just letting the computer boot with disc in drive without any key interaction.

How can I use automator to open terminal change directory run a python script?
Hi all,
I dont really ever use automator - which may be my big problem - and I am trying to make an apllication that seems fairly simple in theroy. I want something that will lunch terminal, cd to the place where my python script lives and then run it. I have tried a number of suggested ways and can get the terminal to open and the directory to change but cant figure out how to run the script. This is my workflow if i did it manually each time
- open terminal
- type cd "the place where my file lives"
- type python uploadr.py -d
I can get terminal to open then cd to the right place but cant get the "python uploadr.py -d" to run without an error.
any help would be very appricated

Pypl.org shows a list of available packages by ascending Python version. By the time one looks for Cheetah support in Python 2.6, it is strictly Linux. In the Python 2.7 section, there is no Cheetah package listed at all.
In my estimation, development on Cheetah has been abandoned, and it remains incompatible with Python 2.7.2 as installed on OS X. You should abandon Cheetah. Look at Jinja2, or Django.
OS X still uses Python scripts for some system activity. If the system version of Python gets messed up with an incompatible module, these system python scripts are compromised too.
Seriously, look at Pythonbrew. It allows you to create full-blown Python installs and switch between versions and virtual environments. -
How do I start the script for Photoshop CS6 in Bridge CS6 image processor ?
I am new to Bridge and I am lookiing for a way to batch process images. I opened 'preferences' and did not find Photoshop CS6 under the script list. How do I open and run the image processor? Thanks for any help!!
I have clicked on 'tools' within Bridge but there is no 'Photoshop' in the drop-down menu.
Misread your post a bit and see you want the image processor, however, this should be in the same location as the Batch option. If you don't have Photoshop in that list it means the start up script is not active or not installed properly.
First check Bridge preferences / Start up scripts and see if Photoshop is listed inhere and has a checkmark in front. If no checkmark then set it to on, restart Bridge and try again. If no Start upScript at all first try restart Bridge holding down option key (Mac) or ctrl (Win) and choose reset preferences.
If still no luck try a reinstall of PSCS6 to also reinstall Bridge again. (you first have to uninstall PSCS6, be sure to have a back up of custom settings etc). -
CTS+ in PI 7.10 - problem starting cts browser from stms
Hi folks!
We have successfully configured and tested CTS+ for PI 7.1 ESR and ID objects as well as for 7.1 SLD objects. So far the world is "brave".
But we have one little issue and after scanning SMP and SDN it seems as if we are the only ones all over the world having this problem.
When we launch the CTS Browser (Transport Organizer WebUI) from ESR, ID and/or SLD and/or manually by entering the URL in the browser the CTS browser starts as desired. But when we try to start it from within ABAP transaction STMS (via Icon or via F7) only an empty browser window is launched, but not the CTS borwser in it.
Has anybody any ideas what's going on here?
Thanx in advance,
Regards,
VolkerHi Volker,
This will work with SAP GUI SP09 or higher.

Airport no longer connects to OPEN wireless networks
Lots of people seem to think that their airport keeps dropping the connection to OPEN wireless networks because of the 2008-001 airport update. That is probably only true for a Macbook 2,1 (aka Macbook Core 2 Duo). I had the issue on my Macbook 1,1 (
