Dictation isn't very accurate on MacBook Pro - my iPad does much better

Dictation isn't very accurate on MacBook Pro - my iPad does much better. Is anyone else having the same issues ?

Sure - it's not really meant to be a full-fledged dictation software solution. If that's what you're looking for you can purchase the just released (I think) Dragon Dicate 4 for Mac. At $200 it's not cheap but I've used it on Windows-based machines and it does, as advertised, deliver 99% accuracy.
It's also very important to have a good USB mic/headphone set. The one that comes with Dragon will do but I prefer the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 headset.
Good luck,
Clinton

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

Looking for a Dictation App for my Iphone and MacBook Pro.

I have Dragon.  Should I purchase Dragon Premium or Dragon for Mac?

Care to share which OS you are using?
OS has its own dictation program.
Should I purchase Dragon Premium or Dragon for Mac?
Only you can make that determination.  Read the system requirements for both and read the reviews.

My photo booth screen is very very dark. I thought it was the screen but its at the brightest it can possibly be! So I grabbed my mothers MacBook Pro and It's much lighter and more clear. I have just the regular macbook. I also used the my camera on tumblr and it came up like my mothers. So could it just be photo booth? I also have no idea how to find out which operating system is downloaded. This is preowned.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Iphoto isn't working on my macbook pro

Iphoto isn't working on my macbook pro, it is coming up with the following message:-
Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable.
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iphoto again.  If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library.  To do this, quit ipoto, and then reopen it while keeping the optino and command keys pressed.  You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
Please help.  I don't want to delete this app and then have to pay for it again.

Restore from your back up is a good place to start.
    Failing that:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago (never bothered to fix it as the dvd drive had also failed so not worth it).   Nevertheless, I finally decided to sync my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music

My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?

Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys.

  • Apple devices will not print to Officejet 6700 including MacBook Pro and iPad

I am trying to help someone set up their MacBook Pro and iPad to be able to wirelessly print to their Officejet 6700. I recently set them up with a new Apple Airport Extreme for their router. The printer connects fine to the wireless network. Everything during the install process for the printer goes well, the MacBook easily sees the printer. The correct driver is installed. They also have a Windows 7 laptop that prints instanteously and has no issues whatsoever.
When I try to print from the Mac, nothing prints. I open the print queue and it shows "Printing - connected to printer..." and nothing ever comes of it. When trying to print from the iPad, it can see the printer and I select it. However, after telling it to print, the dialogue box just says "Connecting to Printer" and it never does - it just times out.
    Things I've tried:
Everything in this article that is related to Macs (10.8).
Resetting the printing system on the Mac.
Resetting the printer to default settings.
Setting the static IP of the printer through the printer settings.
Setting the IP of the printer through the Airport Utility (after changing the printer to automatic).
Rebooting the Mac after each attempt to remove the printer and before adding again.
Using the official HP Officejet 6700 driver.
    Using the Airprint driver.
    Other info:
I can successfully ping the printer's IP address from the MacBook Pro.
I can easily see the web setup page for the printer both through the printer settings and by entering the IP address.
The printer is only about a month old.
They bought this printer because the previous one was having problems printing from all of their devices wirelessly. That was with a router from their previous ISP.
At this point, I'm completely stumped as to why the printer will not print from these Apple devices. We've dealt with every issue that could be causing it: the network, the printer, and the MacBook itself. I've looked online and can see no issues with people not being able to print to a wirelessly connected printer to an Airport Extreme. I've seen some issues when the printer is plugged in via USB to the Airport Extreme, but that is not our setup.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  • Can't complete facetime connection between macbook pro and iPad

Last week I had to download the latest version of facetime from the mac app store because the beta version (0.9) had expired.  After I installed it on my 15" macbook pro (last model that had the removable battery) running the latest version of Snow Leopard 10.6.x, I tried to facetime with my iPad (3rd gen).  It would ring, but when I would try to accept the connection, it wouldn't make the connection.  I was using the same account/user id on both the iPad and the macbook pro.  I added my wife's email address to the mac and selected her address and then was able to connect and I thought my problems were solved.  At this time, both the macbook pro and iPad were on the same wifi network.
Fast forward a few days and I'm overseas and trying to facetime with my wife and so I attempt to connect and it rings and she accepts the incoming connection, but then it never connects and I get a message that it failed.  She tries to connect to me and the same thing happens - it rings, i touch the button to accept and it says connecting and then never connects.  I was able to connect with no issues when she was using her iPhone 4S when I am in London and she is at home on the same wifi network as the macbook pro is on.  I had her sign out of my apple account in facetime on the macbook pro and sign in with her apple account that is associated with a completely different email address.  We tried to connect and still had the same problem - rings, hit answer, connection fails.
I can also connect with my iPhone 4 to my iPad (both on the same wifi network, data roaming turned off on the phone so I know it is wifi only)
Since I can connect to my iPhone and my wife's iPhone, I'm pretty certain that the problem isn't with the wifi network on either end and it has something to do with facetime on the macbook pro.  When I was googling for answers, it seems like this issue isn't an uncommon occurence, but I haven't been able to find any solutions either.

    No.
they run entirely different os on entirely different hardware.

  • World travel: MacBook Pro or iPad?

I will be leaving for Peace Corps service in a few months, and I'm debating: MacBook Pro or iPad?
It is unknown if I will have access to electricity very often.  Even less likely will I have internet available very often.  Battery life is something to consider.  Cruising the web probably won't be an option, regardless of device.
My main use of either device will be photo and video storing/sharing/editing.  This is very important to me.  Word processing is less important, but still a factor (blogging, e-mailing, etc. and preparing them ahead of time to be uploaded quickly at an internet cafe).  Obviously a MacBook pro will have more hard drive space and more capabilities.  But is the iPad a decent replacement?  I have to think about ease of transport as well as security (an iPad would be much easier to hide and keep secret).
Things not important to me: iBooks, games, taking pictures and video (I already have good cameras for those)
Can you back up iPads with an external hard drive?  Does it take a USB flash drive?  Do you have experience with traveling with either?

The iPad is great, but I would never have it as my *only* computer. Definitely go with a MacBook (Pro or Air).
Video editing and word processing will be very limited on the iPad, and it sounds like you'll want to upload stuff from a separate camera, which could be problematic as well. The other things you want to do will also be a pain without a reliable network.
If size and weight are an issue, you might consider a MacBook Air as a compromise. Except for the optical drive, it has all the functionality of the Pro, but the 11" is only slightly larger than an iPad.

  • HT5287 what about a macbook pro 2007? does it support Remote Disc?

    Hello,
I am reading the instructions to set up a share remote disc in my new iMac as I need to install some software that came in cds (booooo!) and it says that Macbook Pro with Retina Display support this. But it doesn't say all Macbook Pro do.
Does it mean that my old macbook pro can't share the drive with my iMac?
It is not like I am buying laptops/desktops everyday to have the latest! I bought the iMac because my macbook pro is old (2007) and I needed more power.
If I can't use my old macbook in this way I would be very dissapointed Apple!

    Patricia

Does your old Macbook Pro have System Preferences -> Sharing -> DVD or CD Sharing (see attached image)
If it does, then you enable this, and the DVD/CD drive should appear in your new Macbook Pro Retnia display Finder side-bar as something you can mount.

I have been editing a document on my MacBook Pro and iPad, which has the newer versions of Pages. Now, I cannot open on My MacBook. It says I need a newer version of OS. However, I'm not showing a newer version being availabe!!! Can anyone help???

That is Pages for iPad v2.0, which Pages '09 v4.3 can't read.
You need to either stick with the older version of Pages on the iPad or get Pages 5 for the Mac which is only available if you are running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Unfortunately that is not the end of your woes because Apple has made iCloud convert the files to Pages 5 now, and Pages 5 has over 90 features deleted on top of doing a shocking job of converting older Pages files.

  • After upgrading to yosemite my macbook pro late 2011 does a random sound from time to time.

After upgrading to yosemite my macbook pro late 2011 does a random sound from time to time. Its completely random and i already checked all apps in use and its not from them.

    Sounds like Notifications app.
Maybe some other app. In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems tab: remove all entries with the minus sign underneath. This will not uninstall anything, you have to start those apps by hand now. Restart.
    Still there?
Yes: Restart again while holding the shift key, this will start the mac in SafeMode: only the necessary items are loaded to run.
    Still there?
Yes: Make an etrecheck list and post it here.
No: Restart, put the items in the LoginItems back, one by one, restart after each entry, and you will find the "culprit"
Please report accordingly. I will be back in 24 hours.
