Did iOS7 disable my non-apple power cable?

I "upgraded" to iOS7 and now my non-apple power/sync cables which worked perfectly under iOS6 do not charge the battery? Did Apple actually code this new iOS7 to disable non-apple cables?

could be. I haven't heard that cables stopped working just that you recieve a message on screen before they don't work. Not just out of the blue stopping. Did you get a pop-up message when you first plugged in the iphone after upgrading to ios7?

The mains power supply cable (3-Pin UK 230V wall socket plug) to the UPS unit is also fused too !
A noticeable difference - the Mac seems to run quieter since feed o off a UPS unit ?

Using non-Apple power charger

Hi- my ipod touch arrived this morning and I'm wondering if I can use the same non-Apple power charger to charge it away from my Mac when I'm not at home, as I do for my 2 gen. ipod Nano.

Unfortunatly (see previous threads on this topic), Apple has done something to the multi connector so that some aftermarket chargers no longer work with the newer units. Only way to know is to try. Either it will charge or it won't.

ok so after updating my phone and trying to log in after setting my 4 didgit passcode after multiple attempts the new ios 7 disabled my i phone i am very ****** off it did this and about to drive out to cali and ream them a new rear orifice for excrement!

F-key mappings being disabled with non-apple keyboard

I'm using a Happy Hacking Lite 2 keyboard on my iMac. It doesn't have an eject key on it like the Apple keyboards so I remapped my f-keys for dashboard, exposé, etc. so that I could use F12 for ejecting optical media. Since upgrading to Leopard, I've noticed that whenever I want to use exposé or the dashboard when I get the f-key, nothing happens. When I open the keyboard prefs, I see that those keys are disabled. I re-enable them and everything works fine again for a time, but eventually (like a couple of hours) they mysteriously don't work again. I never had this problem in Tiger.
Any suggestions on how to correct this?

Non-Apple power adapters

I was wondering if people have had luck with other power adapters (that are usually cheaper) or reconditioned adapters on ebay.
I'm on my third power cord in 3 years . . . first one was replaced by Apple, not the second . . so I bought a Kensington (on the recommendation of a Mac technician) and it bit the dust in less than a year and I cannot find my receipt (I clung to it for ages . . but just moved . . )
I hate to spend the $80 on a Mac adapter.

I have a kensington adapter that cost more than $80 I think - because it has attachments for Air and Auto power as well as AC that I carry in my bag - the factory original power adapter stays plugged in behind the desk at home.

may be able to find and send you a cable. If you can find a cable with the correct end
fitting the iMac G4 series (700/800/1.0 & 1.25 iMac + Mac Mini G4 use similar) you
could replace the mains-end of the cable with a regional power plug. The computers
themselves have an automatic power supply, so an adapter or correct plug end is all
that would be needed to match local standard electrical plug-ins.
A product similar to the one noted in my search result at applebits site, above should
be able to connect direct to the local power; or work with a most simple adapter.

I bought a second hand LED display a few months back, and it didn't come with one of the Apple power cables. Now I know they're just regular leads that look nice but does anyone know where I can pick one up? I need a UK one but can't seem to find one anywhere!

Power converter and non-Apple Adapters

I am traveling to London and Paris next month. Do I actually need the power brick or can I use an adapter with USB cable? I am traveling with two iphones, and two cameras. I expect to have very few outlets.
Also has anyone used these non apple adapters? Can I charge more than one device at a time with any of these or anything else?

You will need to find a third party solution for online storage in order to share things like photos with others. Some popular solutions to this are dropbox and sugarsync.
You cannot sync non-iCloud email accounts across your iOS devices and computers unless they are IMAP accounts like iCloud. If they are IMAP accounts, you will do it in the same way as you have always done.

Do any of you use an Apple iDevice with a digital transport docking station to get your music from your device to your speakers using an external DAC?
I have an Onkyo ND-S1 which was great when using my iPhone 4S plugged into the dock sending digital audio through to my active speakers with built in DAC….
But since upgrading to an iPhone 6, running IOS 8.1.1 which has a lightning port, I purchased an aftermarket ‘lightning to 30-pin female adapter cable’ to continue using the dock with my new iPhone.
It doesn’t work. The adapter is not approved by Apple and somehow they have managed to bork all non-apple cables, ie it won’t charge, it won’t send digital audio. It’s essentially useless. Now, this is a cable that was manufactured & marketed specifically to allow iDevices with a lightning port to connect to digital transport docks, and I believe that it used to work with IOS 7.x, but it appears that with the rollout of IOS 8.x, Apple has done something that renders all non-apple cables redundant.
Apple sell their own £30 adapter cable, but that has its own DAC built in to the unit – now stupid question time: If I used one of these cables, would it (a) Do nothing, just like the non-apple cable, (b) Convert the audio to analogue, then send the converted audio to the speakers (by analogue cable only), resulting in a lower quality reproduction? Or (c) Would it bypass the DAC in the cable and send the digital signal to the speakers?
Does anybody have any experience of this?

If the 3rd party adapter doesn't work it is because it is a counterfeit device The manufacturer has failed to licence the lightning technology from Apple ergo it does not work

The fix is to log into your current account. Go to appleid.apple.com and change the primary email and apple id back to the old email address (doesn't matter if you have it any longer). Once the change is made, then enter your password for that account on the device. Once you get in, go ahead and go back to appleid.apple.com and change it back. That fixed mine.

To get TV on your iMac off the cable box you would need to use an external TV tuner device such as the company ElGato is highly regarded for. I have used one of their EyeTV products for many years with my iMac to watch television shows from my Comcasst cable TV box. You can look at the models here:

I guess that it just had a bad connecting port on the phone itself, no clue why it wouldn't work when plugged in both ways other than there is actually some differentiating between the two sides.
