Diff between synchronous & asynchronous updates of database with call trans

Hi Everyone,
I want to know the difference how synchronous and asynchronous
database update in call transaction method.
thanks

Hi,
In batch session interface: - Asynchronous processing means Transfers data for multiple transactions - Synchronous database update means during processing, no transaction is started until the previous transaction has been written to the database.
In CALL TRANSACTION: - Synchronous processing means Transfers data for a single transaction. Synchronous and asynchronous database updating both possible The program specifies which kind of updating is desired. Separate LUW for the transaction The system performs a database commit immediately before and after the CALL TRANSACTION USING statement.
Difference between Synchronous and Asynchronous processing?

  • Difference between Synchronous & ASynchronous.

    Hi All,
    I few queries:
    1) Difference between Synchronous & ASynchronous communication?
    2) How should we decide whether it is a Sync or Async scenario?
    Regards,
    Sreedhar.

    Hi Sreedhar,
Apart from the points already added by experts, i would like to add something.....
      Synchronous Communication:
In synchronous communication, thereu2019s nothing like scheduling. Sender application executes a u2018singleu2019 Function call, receiver system immediately processes this function call dispatching the response to sender and then it performs implicit database commit.
However this communication is based on assumption that receiver system is available when function call is made. If this is not the case, the communication is seriously disrupted.
    Asynchronous Communication:
Here receiver system is not necessarily required to be active at the time of function call. Instead, the call is placed in outbound queue of the sender system and then this call is repeated at regular intervals until receiver system processes the call.
Also Error handling in Synchronous communication: error messages sent back to sender. In Asynchronous communication: errors made persistent.
So conclusion: Queues play central role in asynchronous communication. Further in asynchronous communication, the calls can be executed either by tRFC (Transactional RFC) or qRFC (Queue RFC).
If business requirement is such that your sender system need to know the successful posting of message in the receiver system then approach for synch communication else asynch communication.

  • REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY - updating the database with new values

    Hi,
I am using the function module 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' to display records. I have managed to open a field for input/edit mode. Once this data has been changed , where will this data be? I have checked the internal table - no joy. I need to use this new/changed data to update the database with the new values.
    Thanks,
    Leanne

    Hi,
The data is stored in table tab. After the changes the data does not reflect in table tab. Where can I get the data so that I can update my database?
I have coded the process as follows:
        when '&SUSPEND'.
          loop at tab
            where box = 'X'.
              update zzzz
                set status       = 'SP'
          endloop.

  • Synchronous asynchronous update

what is difference between synch and asynch update???
    how it affects database update???

    hi,
    For Update you have
A - asynchronus - does not wait for next update in the queue
S - Synchronus - waits until the previous update is completed before a new request is considered
L - Local update - Uses a different work process to trigger call function in update task.
In synchronus method until one record process takes place into database next record will not be processed.
In asynchronus immedate updation of data into database table.
Check this link for more detailed information:
    http://fuller.mit.edu/tech/sync_asynchronous.html
'A', 'S' and 'L' are the update modes in CALL transaction method.
I will give you a simple example to explain this.
Suppose that there are 30 records in total and an error has occured in the 5th record.
In asynchronous, update is done for every 30 records while in synchronous one,
update is done only upto the 4th record.
So only after the record in the fifth one is eliminated, remaining others are processed.

  • Preventing concurrency errors when updating a database with AJAX

Here is a question that has arisen on my current project. What are some strategies for avoiding concurrency errors in cases where a given user could attempt to modify the same row in the database with simultaneous requests (say, that he updates one column with information with an AJAX call, then immediately submits a form that updates the same row)? In which layer(s) would this best be handled? Is the best alternative to make the AJAX updates synchronous, rather than asynchronous?

  • Problem viewing/updating MySQL-database with utf-8 charset

    System specs:
    Tomcat 5.5.4
    JDK1.5.0
    MySQL 4.1
    Connector/J 3.0.16
    JSTL 1.1
I am trying to build a guestbook web-app, and want to be able to store swedish characters (available in latin1) and decided to give utf-8 a go since it would support other languages as well. I use a <Resource> in my context-xml to get the connection.
This simply will not work; when I use the <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=utf-8"%> declaration, the swedish characters in the raw html-code gets replaced by questionmarks. Select-queries output look ok though, as long as they don't contain the character ''
When removing the page-declaration, the queries show only questionmarks where swedish characters should be.
The same goes for updating my database. Swedish characters get garbled.
I have tried the following without success:
*adding &useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=UTF-8 to the Resource-url -- causes my web-app to fail loading.
*adding a <filter> to the web-apps web.xml as suggested at  http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-2004/jw-0906-unicode_p.html -- caused another web-app error, resulting in it not being loaded.
*setting the form attribute accept-charset -- resulted in no improvement.
Right now I'm half desperate and half fed-up. Is this a common problem with MySQL? Should I use another database? Or perhaps it is the Connector/J Driver that's messing things up.
I'll appreciate any help I get greatly.

Hello. Maybe not so interesting after a year to try to ask did you ever get a final solution to that problem in command line perspective. OR does somebody else knows solution to this problem.
Anyway I have similar problem, I use mysql5 with latin1 charset and I can insert to my database letters normally via mysql command line and they show perfectly. But the problem is my web application.
I can insert all characters to database and retrieve them normally via web app but if i need to use mysql command line for queries it fails because those special letters appear something like . I still need to make queries on mysql command line as admin. I have also tried to change different drivers like
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver"); or
    com.mysql.jdbc.Driver etc connector is 3.0.17
I have also tried to change to utf-8 and then changed mysql def.enc to same... i have used request.setWHATEVER CHARSET.....i'm out of ideas... help?

  • What is the use of Update type used with call transaction statement?

What is the difference between following option of call transaction-
    'A' (asynchronous update)
    'S' (synchronous update)
    'L' (local update)  ???
    Regards,
    GURU

In synchronous method incase if there is any change in the table all the related tables will be changed accordingly and then sy-subrc will be returned. In
asynchronous method in case if there is any change in the table the s-subrc will be immediatel returned and then the related tables will be updated. the diffrence between these two is in asynchronous even if the related tables are not updated the sy-subrc will still be returned as 0.

  • Diff between Start ,transfer, update routines

    hi
Plz tell me what is the difference between Start routine, transfer routine and update routine. Send me some real time examples.I would be very glad.
    Regards
    Ajay

    Hi!
it is simple all of them are small program used in ETL process while loading in to BW.
<b>Start routine:-</b> is used in Transfer rules and update rules, this abap code is  executed before starting the load and used in scenarios where we want to perform some operations on all the data example deleting some records before processing records in Update rules or transfer rules.
<b>Update routine:-</b> abap code used in update rules to transform or finding some field. ex:- may be you want to retrieve the field data from some data base tables based on the other data present in the infosource
<b>Transfer Routine:-</b> similar to the update routine but used in transfer rules.

  • How to update SQL Database with totals from Crystal Report

    Hello,
I am converting a Crystal Report done using CR 11 and VB6 to VB.Net and Visual Studio 2010.  The report is now working fairly well but there is 1 last thing to figure out.  In the vb6 version there was a report footer event that I used to update the report totals to a record in a database table.
It appears that in the .net version we have less events to allow outside processing to occure when a report is produced. Looking thru the available events I don't see a way to do this. Would some be so kind as to suggest a way this might be accomplished?
    Thanks,
    Vic

Only thing I can think of is the InProc RAS SDK and using the RowSet Controller to query the footer, then parsing out the info you need to submit to the database.

  • I want to know the particular diff betwenn synchronous mode & asynchronous

    Dear Friends,
can u pls explain the difference between synchronous & asynchronous mode.
    Regards
    Jagadeeshwar.B

    Hi
    synchronous mode
In synchronous update, you do not submit an update request using CALL FUNCTION... IN UPDATE TASK. Instead, you use the ABAP statement COMMIT WORK AND WAIT. When the update is finished, control passes back to the program. Synchronous update works in the same way as bundling update requests in a subroutine (PERFORM ON COMMIT). This kind of update is useful when you want to use both asynchronous and synchronous processing without having to program the bundles in two separate ways.
    Asynchronous mode
A typical SAP system installation contains dialog work processes and at least one update work process. The update work processes are responsible for updating the database. If, in a dialog work process, the function modules stored in interim storage through CALL FUNCTION ... IN UPDATE TASK are released for processing by means of the ABAP statement COMMIT WORK, the dialog work process will not wait for the update process to finish. This kind of update is called asynchronous update.

  • Help with updating a database while in cfloop

Greetings. I'm having some difficulties in updating a
database using cfquery inside of a cfloop.
    Background:
I've got a text file that I need to interpret, line for line,
and then update an existing database with information from that
text file. For example, the text file might say
    jdoe~103 Anywhere St.~East Nowhere~New Jersey~05784~
    asmith~8963 North St.~Crabapple Cove~Maine~01390~
    (etc...you get the idea)
So, I use a CFFILE to read the file, and then calculate the
number of lines (records to be updated in the database) using
listlen / 5 (in this example). From there, I:
    <cfloop index="record" from="1" to "#numberoflines#">
    <cfloop index="field" from="1" to "5">
    <cfset position = ((record - 1) * 5) + field>
    <cfelseif field EQ 1>
    <cfset form.username =
    ListGetAt(newcontents,position,"~")>
    <cfelseif field EQ 2>
    <cfset form.street =
    ListGetAt(newcontents,position,"~")>
    (etc...through EQ 5)
    </cfloop>
    <cfquery name="updatedatabase"
    datasource="clientlist">
    UPDATE clients
    SET
    Street= '#form.street#',
    (etc)
    WHERE email = '#form.username#'
    </cfquery>
    </cfloop>
The problem I am having is that it updates the very first
record in the set of records to update, but then it does not update
    any subsequent records.
    Why?
Sorry if the code is crude. Is there a better way of doing
this? If so, great detail would be helpful :) Relatively new at
    this.

you can use cold fusion to upload the file and ftp it to your db
    server or something like that.
Better yet, that file has to come from somewhere. Is there a
way you can update your db instead of generating a file in the
    first place?
The file starts as an output generated by a web user (an
administrator on the software) which creates a text file containing
email addresses, one per line. An external process which I have no
control over takes that file and generates another file containing
information about each of those e-mail addresses (last name, first
name, etc) one per line. I can't change that process. So, I'm left
with an external text file that I need to parse and then put into
the database...all through a web interface. The goal here is that
an administrator of the software, who does not have direct access
to the database, can (using cold fusion processing) update the
database with new information on each e-mail address without my
    intervention.

  • ASYNCHRONOUS updates

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I have an idea about this, but I wanted to confirm with the experts. Asynchronous updates is something in which, "Messages can be persisted," and not, "Acknowledgment can be sent back," I am thinking this second option is more for Synchronous updates since it becomes a, "Blocking Mode." Am I right about this.
    Thanks,
    Adnan Abbasi

    Hi,
    Check these threads
    Synchronous Vs  ASynchronous
    Asynchronous and Synchronous
Asynchronous Update – The program does not wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work.
Synchronous Update – The program wait for the work process to finish the update. Commit Work and Wait.
Asynchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction does not wait for any updates it produces to be completed. It simply passes the updates to the SAP update service. Asynchronous processing therefore usually results in faster execution of your data transfer program.
Asynchronous processing is NOT recommended for processing any larger amount of data. This is because the called transaction receives no completion message from the update module in asynchronous updating. The calling data transfer program, in turn, cannot determine whether a called transaction ended with a successful update of the database or not.
If you use asynchronous updating, then you will need to use the update management facility (Transaction SM12) to check whether updates have been terminated abnormally during session processing. Error analysis and recovery is less convenient than with synchronous updating.
Synchronous updating. In this mode, the called transaction waits for any updates that it produces to be completed. Execution is slower than with asynchronous updating because called transactions wait for updating to be completed. However, the called transaction is able to return any update error message that occurs to your program. It is much easier for you to analyze and recover from errors.
    DataBase Commit:
This statement will apply any outstanding database updates and wait until they have actually been put on the database before proceeding to the next statement.
An ordinary commit work will initiate the process to update the databases in a separate task and will press on in your abap.
    COMMIT WORK: ( Asynchronous)
Your program does not wait for any acknowledgement. it just start executing the next statment after COMMIT WORK
    Reward points if helpful.

  • Diff between all views

    hi all,
can any body tell me the diff between all views
projection view ,database view, maintance view, help view
plz tell me the difference with a example
    hope for positive reponse

Maintenance views offer easy ways to maintain complex application objects.
Data distributed on several tables often forms a logical unit, for example an application object, for the user. You want to be able to display, modify and create the data of such an application object together. Normally the user is not interested in the technical implementation of the application object, that is in the distribution of the data on several tables.
A maintenance view permits you to maintain the data of an application object together. The data is automatically distributed in the underlying database tables. The maintenance status determines which accesses to the data of the underlying tables are possible with the maintenance view.
    database view
Data about an application object is often distributed on several database tables. A database view provides an application-specific view on such distributed data.
Database views are defined in the ABAP Dictionary. A database view is automatically created in the underlying database when it is activated.
Application programs can access the data of a database view using the database interface. You can access the data in ABAP programs with both OPEN SQL and NATIVE SQL. However, the data is actually selected in the database. Since the join operation is executed in the database in this case, you can minimize the number of database accesses in this way. Database views implement an inner join
    projection view
Projection views are used to hide fields of a table. This can minimize interfaces; for example when you access the database, you only read and write the field contents actually needed.
A projection view contains exactly one table. You cannot define selection conditions for projection views.
There is no corresponding object in the database for a projection view. The R/3 System maps the access to a projection view to the corresponding access to its base table. You can also access pooled tables and cluster tables with a projection view.
    help views
Help views are used if a view with an outer join is needed as selection method in a search help.
You have to create a help view if a view with outer join is needed as selection method of a search help.
The selection method of a search help is either a table or a view. If you have to select data from several tables for the search help, you should generally use a database view as selection method. However, a database view always implements an inner join. If you need a view with outer join for the data selection, you have to use a help view as selection method.

I've got an ADF/UIX application that has a Commit button. If added a column to the database, and have propagated the schema change through my model and view controller. The new text field displays the data in the database, but the Commit button doesn't update the database with any user changes. Changes in the original data fields are committed, but not the new field that I've added.
What do I need to modify in my ADF/UIX application so that the Commit button adds the new data field in it's update action?
