Diff: DATA and TYPES

Hi,
what is the difference in creating internal table using DATA stm and TYPES stm?
Thanks and Regards,
Kalai

Hi..,
When u create itab with DATA ,, the initial memory will be allocated for the internal table ...( Here the object is created )
But when with TYPES no memory will be created !!!( Here the object is not yet created, it just stores the type of the table..thats it )..
again u need to define a table with DATA statement of this TYPE.
Try this simple code..
data w_value type i.
w_value = 2.
types w_value type i.
w_value = 2.
The first case is correct .. because w_value is a variable which has some memory and can store a value !!
But the second case gives an error !!! because w_value doesnot have any memory !!! its type is just created , not the object..
i hope u understood !!

    hi,
like -> used for refering existing data elements in data dictionary or in sap
type -> used for refering existing data types in sap.
types: used for creating used defined structure of tables which has fields from more tahn one table.
diff b/w types and type in creation of internal tables is that when u create a table with types then u can use same for work area creation also.
    ex:
    TYPES : BEGIN OF t_vbap,
    vbeln1 LIKE vbeln,
    posnr LIKE posnr,
    kwmeng LIKE kwmeng,
    netpr LIKE netpr,
    netwr LIKE netwr,
    werks LIKE werks,
    matnr LIKE matnr,
    arktx LIKE arktx,
    END OF t_vbap.
    data: itab1 type t_vbap
            wa_itab1 type t_vbap.
when type is used then u have to create a defintion of work area for another time when internal table doesnt have headr line as
    ex:
    DATA : BEGIN OF t_vbap OCCURS 0,
    vbeln1 LIKE vbap-vbeln,
    posnr LIKE vbap-posnr,
    kwmeng LIKE vbap-kwmeng,
    netpr LIKE vbap-netpr,

    werks LIKE vbap-werks,
    matnr LIKE vbap-matnr,
    arktx LIKE vbap-arktx,
    END OF t_vbap.
    DATA : BEGIN OF wa_vbap,
    vbeln1 LIKE vbap-vbeln,
    posnr LIKE vbap-posnr,
    kwmeng LIKE vbap-kwmeng,
    netpr LIKE vbap-netpr,
    netwr LIKE vbap-netwr,
    werks LIKE vbap-werks,
    matnr LIKE vbap-matnr,
    arktx LIKE vbap-arktx,
    END OF wa_vbap.
    if helpful reward soem points.

  • Diference between DATA: and TYPES: on internal tables

    Hi people,
Can somebody help me. I wanna know whats the diference between DATA: and TYPES: on internal tables
and whitch has the best performance, here is a eg:
DATA: BEGIN OF ti_sbook occurs 0,
              carrid   LIKE sbook-carrid,
              fldate   LIKE sbook-fldate,
              customid LIKE sbook-customid,
              loccuram LIKE sbook-loccuram,
           END OF ti_sbook.
    AND
    TYPES: BEGIN OF ti_sbook ,
              carrid   LIKE sbook-carrid,
              fldate   LIKE sbook-fldate,
              customid LIKE sbook-customid,
              loccuram LIKE sbook-loccuram,
           END OF ti_sbook.
DATA: gw_sbook       TYPE  TABLE OF ti_sbook,
    gs_sbook       TYPE ti_sbook.
witch of both types is better?
    thanks.

    Hi Marcelo,
For compatibility matters is better to create internal tables with a work area separately. So yes it's better to use types. When you work with Object Oriented coding you will need to use internal tables defined with types. Also when defining tables with types is the new way of coding, the another coding is getting obsolete defined by SAP. That's why when working in ABAP with OO (Object Oriented) code you'll have to define tables with types and not the other way.
    Hope it helps.

  • Non Financial Accounts, and Balance,Balance Recurring,Types of data and type

Hi Can Any one make me clear for the following?
1.In HFM Account Types we can find Balance and Balance Recurring what it means? is it completely relating to Finance and Accounts Topics? if so give me few good examples to
understand as regards to HFM where this need will come?
    2. What are Non Financial Accounts we use in HFM? do we use to load?i if so what is the format like Excel or Data form?
    3. What is Head count? what its purpose in relation to HFM? in what situations we have to think and recall about this, mean to say by doing which HFM Activity we can Understand
    about this Simply?

    1) Balance and Balance Recurring types contain data that does not accumulate from one period to another, and do not translate. Headcount is typically a balance, as is Square Footage, for reporting real estate information, for example.
    2) Non financial accounts are typically those which are not currency-related, such as headcount, units sold, number of customers, days sales outstanding, number fo new customers, etc. The entry of this data can be any way other data is loaded - either directly via load file into HFM, through forms, grids, journals, smart view, or FDM, among others I'm sure.
    3) Headcount is often a metric for growth. It is often used in ratios, such as revenue or margin by headcount. Even if you acquire a company, there remains a ratio between revenue and headcount, so it's a good metric for organic and acquired growth.

  • Difference between data and types

    dear friends
Its a very simple question i am confused with why we create structures with types where we can create structures with data as well :
    Types: begin of stru
    end of stru.
    Data: begin of stru
    end of stru...
    regards
    Naim

To construct a new structured data type struc_typein a program, you use several TYPES statements:
    TYPES BEGIN OF struc_type.
      {TYPES dtype ...} | {INCLUDE {TYPE|STRUCTURE} ...}.
    TYPES END OF struc_type.
The syntax for directly declaring a variable as a structure is the same as you would use to define a structured data type using the TYPES statement:
    DATA BEGIN OF struc.
      {DATA comp ...} | {INCLUDE {TYPE|STRUCTURE} ...}.
    DATA END OF struc.
The individual components of a structure are addressed in the program with the structure component selector between the structure name and component name as follows: struc_comp.

  • Imported photos into iPhoto 5 assign random date and I want to change it.

Basically, I import a photo or an album from anywhere (desktop, camera, memory card reader, etc.), and it assigns itself a random date and get's lost in my expansive library. My copy of iPhoto is so janky in general that all I really want to know is if it is possible to change the date of a roll, and how if I can. Doing a batch change doesn't do anything. Can I change the date of a roll?

    Hi Benjamin,
Open the info panel by clicking on the i icon on the bottom left of the iPhoto window
Now click on the title of a roll
Then go to the info panel and click on the word "date" and type in the date

  • Diff B/W master data and transaction data

    Hi all,
What is the main Diff B/W master data and transaction data.  give me some example ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Krish...

    hi krish,
MASTER Data is the data that exists in the organization like employee details, material master, customer master, vendor master etc. These are generally created once.
Master data are distributed throughout the company, they are often not standardised and often redundant. As a result it is very costly to offer efficient customer service, keep track of supply chains and make strategic decisions. With SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) these important business data from across the company can be brought together, harmonised and made accessible to all staff and business partners. As a key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity via all IT systems.
Regardless of the industry, companies often work with different ERP and Legacy systems. The result: the business processes are based on information about customers, partners and products which is displayed in different ways in the systems. If the data are recorded manually, there are more inconsistencies: some data sets are entered several times, others cannot be retrieved by all divisions of the company.
As corporate applications are becoming increasingly complex and produce ever greater amounts of data, the problem is intensified further. Nevertheless, your employees must work with the inconsistent data and make decisions on this basis. The lack of standardised master data easily leads to wrong decisions, which restrict efficiency and threaten customer satisfaction and profitability.
In a word: in order to save costs and ensure your company’s success it is necessary to consolidate master data about customers, partners and products, make them available to all employees beyond system boundaries and use attributes valid company-wide for the purpose of description.
TRASNACTION Data - These are the business documents that you create using the master data - Purchase orders, sales orders etc

  • Insert current date and time into Oracle date type field

I have a JDBC current date and time insert into Oracle 9i that almost works. It submits the current date and a fixed time into the Oracle date type field. I am using Tomcat 6.0.20.
For example if I insert the data at 7:24:04 PM on Feb 16, 2010 it will insert as: 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
The date part works but the time always shows 12:00:00 AM no matter what date or time the data is inserted.
Here is what I have for my JDBC inserts and I also tried something with DateFormat:
    PreparedStatement ps; Date mydate = new Date(new java.util.Date().getTime()); //insert statement here.... stmt.setDate(1,mydate);
    I also tried:
    PreparedStatement ps; java.sql.Timestamp mydate = new java.sql.Timestamp(new java.util.Date().getTime()); SimpleDateFormat fmt = new SimpleDateFormat(.... //insert statement here.... ps.setTimestamp(1,fmt.format(mydate));
Both keep submitting the date into Oracle as 16-Feb-2010 12:00:00 AM
Anyway to get the current date and time? For example if I insert the data at 7:24.04 pm today it should show as 16-Feb-2010 07:24.04 PM in Oracle.

  • Data Carriers and Data carrier type

    Hi Sap Gurus,
Pls let me know is there any necesssity of defining any new Data Carrier types other than PC,
if so at what circumstances and requirements,
also pls throw some light about data Carriers, when is the new data carriers required to be created
    at what circumstances and requirements.
is that to access a document from different server or Different system, if it is so why is this required as the documents are always stored in a central content server and Once checked in, any one can access the document from Server,
    2) can we make use of Application softwares Installed in one System and make it run in another system, example,
if there are say 4 system totally, among this S1 system1 has Autocad Installed in it ,
rest of the 3 system have not installed Autocad, Can the system 2,3 and 4 edit the auto cad drawings in there system, does at this situations where Datacarries and Data carries types come in to picture,
Please throw some light on this
    Thanks and regards
    Sathish

    Dear Christoph Hopf,
Thanks a lot for your Quick Response
as you have Explained,i assume it is mainly used to store a local copy or extra copy of the Original application files in the system which we use to View them, or if we feel to store the copy in any other system also.
Example Say there are 3 systems S1, S2 and S3
if we are viewing an original file in System S1 and want the same Copy to be stored in System S2  or S3.....
then this data carrier configuration is required if iam right?
But Sir apart from this funtionality can i also know the SAP definition purpose, as it defines  data carrier type as below
The system requires the data carrier type in order to exchange data with other data carriers.
This is the case, for example, if the user:
wants to process original application files stored on another computer
wants to use an application installed on another computer
if i can interpret this in right way
it tells us that, by use of data carrier and Data carrier types
we can access a  original file stored in Different systems,
if it is so why is this required as the documents are always stored in a central content server and Once checked in, any one can access the document from Server,
    2) can we make use of Application softwares Installed in one System and make it run in another system, example,
if there are say 3 system totally, among this S1 system1 has Autocad Installed in it ,
rest of the 2 system have not installed Autocad, Can the system 2, and 3 edit the auto cad drawings in there system, does at this situations where Datacarries and Data carries types come in to picture,
if so how is this made possible?
pls explain with example or Screen shots in Wiki if possible
can u tell me what is the difference between Datacarrier and Datacarrier types with any examples as well
    Thanks and regards

  • Get name and type of data in an object?

    Hello,
I would like to know if there is a way of getting the names and types of data encapsulated by a labview object?
For example, lets say I make a simple object, called myObject to be unoriginal, with private data: myObjectName (string), myObjectValue (int 32) (etc)
How then do I construct a method to return the type of the myObjectValue data, or infact return the names and types of all of the data fields within the object, which could be many?
    Thanks,
    Paul.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi there
i can't find a generic solution. Attached is a workaround. The trick is to pack all private data inside a cluster and use the "Controls" property of a template of this cluster to get all data elements and their types.

  • How to validate when date format is diff Internally and externally

    Hello,
How can I validate the Date format if Internal format and external format is different.

    S_CRTSP (YYYY/DD/MM) External format - selection option

    L_DATE = LV_DT+0(8).
I have the date format that i need in L_DATE."  (YYYY/DD/MM)

** IF WE SELECT ONLY ONE DATE IN SELECT OPTION
s_crtsp VALUE IS - IEQ20040101..bY REMOVING FIRST THRID DIGITS
WE ARE GETTING THE S_CRTSP VALUE IS 20040101 AND THIS LOGIC IS WORKING FINE..
       MOVE S_CRTSP TO S_CT.
      W_LV_LEN1 = STRLEN( S_CT ).
      W_LV_DATE1 = S_CT+3(8).
    *  IF W_LV_DATE NE S_CRTSP
    IF W_LV_DATE NE W_LV_DATE1.
      W_FLG = 'X'.
        DELETE T_PR INDEX SY-TABIX.
      ENDIF.
      CLEAR W_FLG.
    ENDLOOP.
Can we do anything for this...
    ANy suggestions would be apprecaited!

  • EJB-QL and date/time types

    Hi,
as far as I understand, EJB-QL does not support date/time values.
Does anybody know how to work around this limitation?
Using long values containing milliseconds is not an alternative, because the database stores
    date/time values.
I need to compare these date/time values to input parameters in finder methods.
    Suggestions?
Bye the way, is there any reason for this limitation in EJB-QL, or did they simply forget to include
    date/time types to the spec?
    Greetings
    Christian

    Greetings,
    Hi,
as far as I understand, EJB-QL does not support
date/time values. Actually, it does - EJB QL supports all types supported by a bean's abstract schema (IOW: available types for CMP/CMR fields). However, therein also lies the crutch - EJB QL is for querying beans, not the resource to which they map (EJB QL's similarity to SQL is purely for convenience; an Entity Bean, it should be remembered, may represent entities in any persistent store, not just RDBMSes). Therefore, you should be thinking in terms of Java types, not SQL ones... The specification, however, does place "restrictions" (ie. minimally required [vendor] support), on their use which should be limited to long millisecond values (by which a Date object performs an equals comparison... ;).
Does anybody know how to work around this limitation?Depends on what you're attempting. If you're using a Date as an argument to a finder, eg:
findByDateInRange( java.util.Date start, java.util.Date end )then this shouldn't pose a problem where your EJB QL would look like:
SELECT OBJECT(a) FROM MyBeanSchema AS a WHERE a.myDate BETWEEN ?1 AND ?2Presuming the bean MyBean contains a CMP field of type java.util.Date called 'myDate'. If, however, you must use a literal date then you will have to use a long literal unless your vendor supports otherwise. However, it might be worth noting that EJB QL must still be mapped to the underlying resource QL (eg. SQL), and so a more intelligble value (one that meets the resource's format requirements ;), could be used in the actual rQL statement.
Using long values containing milliseconds is not an
    alternative, because the database stores
date/time values.I'm guessing you mean here something like "04/23/2002" and "13:13:35", etc. This, however, is not how the database actually stores the data - input/output formats such as these are supported for the convenience of us 'nuerically-challenged' humans (similar to internet hostnames vs. TCP/IP addresses ;) - nor do Java Date/Calendar/Timestamp types store them this way.
I need to compare these date/time values to input
    parameters in finder methods.
Suggestions?Ah, yes. Well then... refer back to the above. :)
Bye the way, is there any reason for this limitation
in EJB-QL, or did they simply forget to include
date/time types to the spec? The EJB QL does not explicitly support any specific types beyond those "supported by an EJB's abstract schema", which is pretty much any Java type that can represent a compatible resource type. The reason for the noted "restriction" on date/time types, however, is (likely) due to the way the associated Java classes (not to mention the back-end resource), handle/represent these data internally and this gives the vendor an easily achievable minimal level of compliance for supporting these types.
    I hope this helps.

  • Date and Time data types

I've read that there are limitations with EJB QL queries when dealing with Date and Time objects. Specifically, Ive read that its recommended that longs (milliseconds) should be used in EJB QL queries instead of java.sql.Date and java.sql.Time. Ive also read that, in the where clause, the operators >= and <= cant be used when comparing date or time objects. Is this accurate?
If the first limitation is true, then does the date and time fields have to be represented as longs in the entity beans? and do the mapped columns (in the tables) have to be of numeric types for successfull synchronization?
When using longs for dates and times, can the >= and <= operators be used in the where clause?

    Hi ,
I am facing the same problem and my scenario is also same (BAPI's).
So can you please tell me how you overcome this problem .
    Thanks,
    Rahul
