  • Difference among Oracle, Sybase, DB/2 & Sql Server

    Hi,
Appreciate if anyone can mention some major differences among Oracle, Sybase, DB/2 & SQL Server in terms of any major syntax, performance & cost parameters.
Appreciate if anyone tell me like what are major parameters that are considered when going for a specific database like oracle, sybase, db/2 or sql server?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi Gun77 !
As i knew, ODBC Generic Connectivity Agent is an API which use for connect other RDBMS. Don't care cost because it's free.
In other way, u can use Oracle Generic Connectivity Agent to any DB (SQL server, MySQL,…)
    Download the orajdbclink_o2a.zip (oracle-to-any) file:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=205664
u can see detail in this link:

  • What is the difference btw Oracle bpm 10gr3 vs albpm 6.0.5 version

What is the difference btw Oracle bpm 10gr3 vs albpm 6.0.5 version
Are the build number common to them?

Projects built in ALBPM 6.0 can be used directly in Oracle BPM 10g, but the reverse is not true.
It's sometimes thought that Oracle BPM 10g was just a relabeling of the predecessor BEA product ALBPM. This is not the case.
In Studio, standards are better supported:
<li> By default, new processes now use horizontal swim-lanes. You can change the swim-lanes orientation individually for each process. You can define the default orientation for each project and for your Studio installation.
<li> It uses more sophisticated BPMN icons. BPMN is the new default process diagram theme. BPMN constructs now include Gateways (AND, OR (new in 10g), XOR, Multiple Instance (previously Split-N)). A new Timer event was added. Loop conditions for automatic activities and groups were added.
    <li> Studio now supports Mac/OS 10.4 Tiger and Mac/OS 10.5 Leopard.
<li> Studio now supports Windows Vista.
<li> Studio now supports CVS and Subversion version control systems.
<li> The Studio UI incorporates Eclipse 3.3 improvements such as the following:
<li> New Minimize/Maximize behavior: When minizing view stacks in Studio, the view icons are placed on the nearest trim area. If a view is maximized, all other views are minimized, rather than hidden.
<li> Interactive tasks provide a new "previewable" property. The new Application Display Panel and Task Execution Panel of WorkSpace automatically start the execution of previewable tasks without locking the process instance. Enabled by default for Dashboards.
<li> New type of Activity: Time Activity. A process instance that arrives to this activity just sits idle until a timed event occurs.
<li> Option Process Notification Immediately on Termination Wait activities has been deprecated. Now both the Wait activity and the first activity in the interruption flow always execute in the same transaction.
<li> Although I'm not wild about it, there is an auto-layout feature re-arranges all visual elements of a process diagram automatically, minimizing superpositions and aligning the flow as much as possible. Only available for processes with horizontal lane orientation.
<li> New process property (Greedy Execution Mode) indicates the Process Execution Engine to collapse contiguous automatic tasks in a single transaction. This mode of execution provides better performance for some processes. Disabled by default.
<li> A new Process-Level debugger allows developers to introduce breakpoints and debug complete processes running in Studio. When the execution reaches a breakpoint, the Engine pauses and Studio's debugging view appears. You can inspect variables, add new breakpoints, resume and continue execution.
    User Interface
<li> The Business Analyst and Business Architect profiles provide a simpler set of menu options and toolbars.
<li> New editor for BPM Object Presentations. It's easier to use, provides a WYSIWYG drag and drop interface, improved CSS support and a new Drag & Drop toolbar.
<li> You can now interrupt a running Simulation started with the Run to the End button.
<li> New BETWEEN operator added to Business Rules editor (on both Studio and WorkSpace). This operator works with Time and numeric types.
<li> The Documentation View now displays read-only documentation for the standard Fuego.* components.
<li> New on-line help book Oracle BPM Components Reference provides reference documentation for the standard Fuego.* components. Only available for the developer profile.
<li> This version introduces Project Dependency, which allows you to re-use components and role definitions from a common base project.
    In the WorkSpace:
<li> WorkSpace has an edit mode which allows users to change and save the configuration and layout of panels.
<li> A new tabbed interface allows you to define multiple pages, each with its own set of panels. You can export the layout configuration to an XML file and re-import it on a different environment or as a different user. Administrators can define layouts for all users in a certain Role.
<li> You can export the data in the Worklist panel to a PDF or CSV
<li> You can see an OOTB chart representation of the distribution of items in the Worklist panel.
<li> WorkSpace includes the following new panels: Task Panel: Renders the execution of interactive tasks within the panel, instead of using the default modal dialogs. Dashboard Display Panel: Provides a way to display Dashboards within a Panel. View Chart Panel: Provides predefined graphical reports about process performance, work items distributions and workload. Application Panel: This panel contains an application (the execution of a Global Interactive). Applications can respond to work item selections or run independently.
<li> The user can now do re-assignment operations on multiple instances at once.
<li> The Business Rules editor shows additional auditing information, including who and when a rule was modified.
<li> WorkSpace now (optionally) stores session-specific information as client-side cookies. This allows load-balancing on a cluster environment without affecting the user experience.
    Integration:
<li> New timeout property added to external resources of type HTTP Server. Use this setting to control timeouts on web service invocations.
<li> Authentication information added to external resources of type JMS (Java Messaging System)
<li> Processes exposed as Web Services can now provide a runProcess operation, which synchronously executes the complete process (from begin to end). Only meaningful on fully automated processes.
    Enterprise:
<li> New Ant tasks to rebuild the Oracle BPM web applications for container-security.
<li> Configuration Wizard adds option Generic JNDI to the list of available LDAP servers. When using this option, you must provide a custom configuration file defining the mapping of object classes, attributes and filters. This new feature is also the new mechanism for integrating with AquaLogic Interaction 6.5, replacing the old Identity Service.
<li> Configuration Wizard can now be run without user interaction ("silent mode"). You specify all configuration values in an XML file.
<li> Oracle BPM client applications (including WorkSpace, PAPI-WS and custom PAPI apps) are now able to connect to multiple environments (BPM Directories) simultaneously.
<li> Added Sybase as a new provider for the Engine database and BPM Directory database.
<li> More information added for auditing of Business Rules, including who and when a rule was modified.
<li> Updated bundled JDBC drivers to their latest version.
<li> The Engine now logs warning messages when it detects rogue threads. A new preference allows the administrator to disable automatic re-starts when the Maximum Number of Rogue Component Executions is reached. In addition, in the case of an automatic re-start the Engine now logs a complete thread dump.
<li> Simplified procedures for deploying BPM WorkSpace on WebLogic Portal. BPM Process Administrator now generates the WorkSpace EAR file as a WLP library module.
<li> Authentication information added to external resources of type JMS (Java Messaging System).

  • Difference between Oracle 7 and later releases

    Hi All,
What are the major differences in oracle 7 and lets say oracle 9i?
I have heard that version 7 did not have all the constraints. Is that true?
    Naveen

You would have to look at the New Features section of the documentation to get a full list, but among the highlights of what is now available that was not in version 7:
    All the object stuff
    Analytic Functions
    Materialized Views (AKA Snapshots)
    Time Zone support
Cost Based Optimizer is hugely improved (In fact the whole SQL Engine seems faster).
Some of these came out in various version 8 releases, but to get the full list you need 9i. There is, or course much more.
In my opinion, the best reason to move off 7.x is support. Version 7 is no longer supported by Oracle. Version 8.1.7 is currently supported, but probably not for too much longer (1 -2 years?). Version 9 should be supported for some time.
If you are going to migrate anyway, you might as well go to the current release.

  • Differences between Oracle Forms 11.1.1.6  and 11.1.2

    Hello !
Which version should I choose 11.1.2 or 11.1.1.6
11.1.2 must me the latest one aka 11gR2
    11.1.1.6 must be 11gR1 PS5
    Am i right ?
but in the forms home page it seems that the 11.1.1.6 is the latest version ??
    Oracle Forms 11.1.1.6 Released
The latest version of Oracle Forms (11.1.1.6) has been released.
This can be downloaded from My Oracle Support (MOS)
    23-Feb-2012
Oracle Forms 11g Release 2 has been released. Read about the new features.
    Oct-2011
I suppose that in a MiddleWare stack : SOA suite + BI publisher + Forms, the 11.1.1.6 (11gR1 PS5) is the best choice.
Can somebody explain me the differences between Oracle Forms 11.1.1.6 and 11.1.2 ?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Jean-Yves

There are many new features in 11.1.2.0 that do not exist in 11.1.1. Some of the most significant new features are listed in the 11gR2 New Features documentation found on this page:

Additional information about new features and changes can be found in the product documentation for 11gR2, which is here:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/index.htm
One important thing to note is that FMw 11.1.2 (11gR2) does not include Portal or Discover. So if you need either or both of these you will need to stick with 11.1.1.Hi Michael,
One of the features which is very very important in my point of view is
    Reduced Installation Footprint
In order to reduce the resource requirements on development machines, you can perform an
installation specifically tailored for development. This will limit the number of software products
and servers installed on the machine whilst still allowing a developer to build, run and test their
    Forms application.
If this feature is only available for the 11.1.2 release then the choice is made !
    Thanks !
    Jean-Yves
ps : and we don't use any portal or discoverer :-)

  • Differences between Oracle's and ArcSDE's validation routines

I am having a small number of problems with valid Oracle geometries not displaying through ArcSDE.
I have read the following on ESRI's website.
Features stored in Oracle's SDO_GEOMETRY can be validated after storage using Oracle's validation subprograms, such as VALIDATE_GEOEMTRY_WITH_CONTEXT. The validation rules are similar to, but not the same as, ArcSDE shape validation rules.
Does anyone know what these differences are?

I found an example which shows a difference of ESRI's and Oracle's validation routines:
A polygon with two holes where the holes share one point.
    Here is the Oracle version:
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 1, 33, 2003, 1, 43,2003, 1),
    SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(128212.114, 395486.529, 128176.43, 395481.085, 128177.792, 395471.529,
    128178.503, 395466.629, 128178.886, 395464.634, 128179.276,395463.348, 128180.136, 395461.264,
    128180.967, 395459.722, 128183.295, 395460.172, 128184.51, 395458.984, 128186.224, 395458.298,
    128188.128, 395458.374, 128204.149, 395461.887, 128212.15, 395463.629, 128215.611, 395464.395,
    128212.114, 395486.529, 128193.512, 395475.783, 128192.739, 395480.726, 128202.224, 395482.209,
    128203.003, 395477.267, 128193.512, 395475.783, 128193.814, 395473.856, 128194.085, 395473.898,
    128194.57, 395470.854, 128195.977, 395471.074, 128196.503, 395467.712, 128195.108, 395467.493,
    128195.515, 395464.937, 128187.326, 395463.655, 128185.922, 395472.622, 128187.078, 395472.803,
    128186.778, 395474.73, 128193.512, 395475.783, 128193.814, 395473.856))
ESRI ArcCatalog (ArcMap) 9.0 stops drawing with an error message when this geometry is in the data set.
The 9.1.version shows the geometry and continues drawing but draws a line from the common point to the origin point (0,0)
which looks a bit strange in a map.
Validating by SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_GEOMETRY_WITH_CONTEXT gives the result: TRUE
ESRI validation-tools show an error. After a correction by ESRI tools we
    get the following geometry:
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2007, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 1, 33, 2003, 1),
    SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(128176.43, 395481.085, 128177.792, 395471.529, 128178.503, 395466.629,
    128178.886, 395464.634, 128179.276, 395463.348, 128180.136, 395461.264, 128180.967, 395459.722,
    128183.295, 395460.172, 128184.51, 395458.984, 128186.224, 395458.298, 128188.128, 395458.374,
    128204.149, 395461.887, 128212.15, 395463.629, 128215.611, 395464.395, 128212.114, 395486.529,
    128176.43, 395481.085, 128192.739, 395480.726, 128202.224, 395482.209, 128203.003, 395477.267,
    128193.512,395475.783, 128193.814, 395473.856, 128194.085, 395473.898, 128194.57, 395470.854,
    128195.977, 395471.074, 128196.503, 395467.712, 128195.108, 395467.493, 128195.515, 395464.937,

    128193.512, 395475.783, 128192.739, 395480.726))
This is a polygon with one hole.
    Now Oracle shows an error:
The Oracle validation function gives the result:
    SDO_GEOM.VALIDATE_GEOMETRY_WITH_CONTEXT(SHAPE,DIMINFO)
    13349 [Element <1>] [Ring <2>][Edge <15>][Edge <4>]
This is a self intersecting polygon.
The two holes are now a self intersecting polygon.
I didn't find any way to get a geometry that is accepted by Oracle and ESRI
    without modifications of coordinates.

  • Differences between Oracle BPM and Aqualogic BPM 6.0

    Hello,
Does anyone know where I can find information that spells out the differences between Aqualogic 6.0 and Oracle BPM (if there are any)? I've searched the Oracle sites, documentation sections, etc. and I cannot find a datasheet that spells out anything related to the differences between the two aside from the name change.
    Thank you.

I thought that there no major differences between the versions, only changes in the skin, logo and an improvement in the engine, but I was wrong.
My production enviroment runs BPM Enterprise in version 6, in other words runs Aqualogic BPM Enterprise, not Oracle BPM Enterprise, but in the development enviroment I made the decision to use the version 10 (Oracle BPM Studio 10g), because I thought there were no considerable changes between versions.
So I could not make the deployment of the project in the enterprise version, the log reported that many processes and screenflows of the project were not found, then I tried to open the project that was done in version 10 in version 6 of the BPM Studio and then try to export the ".exp" to try to do the deployment again. When I opened the project in BPM Studio 6 some errors occurred, but no significant errors. I fixed the errors, export the project again and try to do the deployment in the enterprise version and the same problems as before still occurring.
The only solution I found was to make the project in BPM Studio 6.04 (Aqualogic). Now I can make the deployment of the project in the production environment.
Conclusion: always use the same version in BPM studio/enterprise. If you use Oracle BPM Studio in development enviroment, use Oracle BPM Enterprise for production enviroment. The same way if you use Aqualogic BPM Studio in development enviroment, use Aqualogic BPM Enterprise in the production enviroment.

    Hi
Could you give me links or just write about differences between Oracle AS 10g Release 2 and Release 3. I have books to Oracle 10g AS Release 2, and I don't know, what information are incorrect with reference to Release 3. I've found this link http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/core.1013/b32196/whatsnew.htm#sthref7 , but Oracle 10g AS Release 3 for example does not require a metadata repository. So where can I find all diferences?
    Thanks awfully for help.
    Regards

Application Server 10R2 (10.1.2.0.2) includes products such as OID, Forms & Reports, Discoverer, Oracle Portal etc. These are not included in Application Server 10R3, which was a JEE only install geared towards JEE solutions.
Both versions will be desupported in December 2011 so I would spend to much time on these versions. Go with Fusion Middleware 11g : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/index.htm

  • Difference between Oracle developer suite 9i and 6i

    Hi -
Can I know what's the release difference between oracle developer suite 9i and 6i , and what's new in oracle discoverer 9i in compare with last version , we have discoverer version of 4.1...
I could not able to get from metalink anything like new features in 9i deve;oper suite.
Existing oracle financial application 11.5.8 have their forms and reports in 6i version.
What impact will have if changed with new version of application 11.5.10 in future .

Oracle Developer Suite 9i is now called Oracle 9iDS. Oracle also sells Oracle 9iAS. You need to license iAS in order to run application created using iDS.
9i is fully J2EE compliant. It offers improved integration between components. Its much more feature rich than 6i. See:
    http://www.oracle.com/ip/develop/ids/
    for more information.
what's new in oracle discoverer 9i in compare with last versionThis question is best asked in Discoverer Forum.
What impact will have if changed with new version of application 11.5.10 in future Reports offers backward compatibility between 6i and 9i reports with a few exceptions. See Oracle Reports Obsolescence plan on OTN:

    1) Oracle 8.1.7.4
    2) Oracle 7.3.1.4
I have to create agents which can transfer tables from these two databases to one machine having sql server 2005 database.
Please tell me what are the options. What drivers i need to install on machine having sql server 2005 so that i can transfer data from both oracle versions.
    Thanks
    Rajneesh.

Your Oracle databases are so old you might want to look around and see if you can find dinosaur bones near by.
Given the differences in data types between Oracle and SQL Server I'd suggest you start off by dumping the data into delimited ASCII files and then loading it using whichever SQL Server tool you wish.
