  • Difference between Domain member and standalone server with AD binding

    Hi all,
    Can anyone explain the difference between:
    A) Setting up a MacOSX server as Windows domain member server using Server Manager;
    B) Setting up a MacsOSX server as Windows standalone server and joining the Active Directory using Directory Access;
    My setup:
    ====================
    We have a Windows 2003 A.D. running, all users are set up in the A.D.
    Also we have two MacOSX servers, which provide file services (both AFP and SMB/CIFS) for Mac and Windows clients, while using the A.D. for user authentication.
    One of the MacOSX servers is configured as a domain member server, the other is configured as Windows standalone server. The latter is bound to the A.D. using Directory Access.
    Following the Apple manuals one should think that the first setup (domain member) is the best.
    As for Open Directory: both servers are running as Standalone.
    How my setup behaves
    ====================
    Official Apple guidelines are to set up the Mac server as domain member. Reality is another thing though.
    For AFP both servers perform equal: users are authenticated against the A.D. and get access to their shares. File/Folder permissions are as expected.
    For Windows clients things aren't the same.
    The server setup as Windows Domain member acts strange. Windows clients don't have single signon experience.
    Every file/folder's owner shared on this server is <<unknown>> to the client. Also, when a Windows user creates a file/folder the owner is <<unknown>>.
    Sometimes the Samba server just stops authentication. A relaunch of the Samba service fixes this.
    The server setup as a standalone server performs as expected. Windows clients have single signon experience, there are no issues with file/folder owner. Also authentication never stops.

  • Difference Between Calculated Member and Embedded summary

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain me the difference between the Calculated Member and Embedded summary.  Please also clarify when to use which one.
    The issue I am having a crosstab report displaying sales revenue for product over the years.
    I have my years in columns, product in rows and sales revenue in summarized field.  There are 10 products in my report. Its static as of today.
    I have to group the first 4 products and display the sub total over the  years.  Similarly I have to group the last 6 products and display the sub total over the years in the cross tab.
    I have to display a column next to the sales revenue having the percentage contribution by the product to that group that I have created earlier.
    How to achieve the same.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Difference between Name columns, Attributes, and Member properties

    I am studying for the "70-463 Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012" exam. I am using the "Training Kit (Exam 70-463): Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012".
    In chapter 1 of this book the different columns of dimension are explained., however I fail to understand the difference between the following column types:
    - Name columns: Used for human names of entities
    - Attributes: Used for pivoting in analyses
    - Member properties: Used for labels in a report
    As far I can understand all those three are labels and can be used interchangeable. Am I correct? Or am I wrong? I suppose there might be some practical differences, but how can you tell?
    I would really appreciate some examples showing the same data in a LOB
    (OLTP), data warehouse (star schema), and data mart (OLAP cube) form.
    Thank in advance.

    If I understand correctly the difference is about context or how you use the column.
    I did some further reading, and now I understand that an attribute can consists multiple columns. This way the following is possible:
    An attribute can be combined of multiple columns: e.g. the attribute address can combined by the apartment number, house number, street name, ZIP code, city, state, and country.
    An attribute can be column which is also part of another attribute: e.g. apartment number, house number, street name, ZIP code, city, state, and country can all be attributes own their own and simultaneously be part of the address attribute. The difference
    is the context which depends on business needs and technical requirements.
    An attribute can also consists of multiple columns which are aliases. This can be needed to support multiple languages or allow user friendly names (which allows spaces and funny characters) to coexist with technical names (which use a more restricted naming
    convention and typically use camel case.) Another example would be an additional column for abbreviations which might be needed for narrow column headers. Depending on the context a specific column can be used.

  • Difference between Consolidation Process and Calculation process

    Hello everybody,
    I need to understand what's the difference between the two process : consolidation && Calculation and why we apply consolidation only to the entity dimension?
    Thanks in advance.

    this is a basic concept.
    calculation is to calculate all the calculated data for a particular child entity. you right click on an entity and choose "calculate" and it performs calcs on that entity only. when the data is calculated, then it is ready to be consolidated to the parent entities. at this point your calculations have not changed the data in the parent entity, merely done the ground work so that the child entity has executed the Sub Calculate() rules and contains the correct adjusted results (numbers) based on the combination of the source input data, the journals, and the applied rules. the child entity calculation status changes to "OK" to show it is complete, and the parent entities calculation status will change to "CN" indicating a consolidation is required (the parent entity is said to be "impacted" by the change in the data to the child).
    then you right click on a parent entity and choose "consolidate" and it consolidates all the data from all the children of that parent to come up with the consolidated results of that parent entity. so the consolidation includes the translation, elimination, parent-level journals and calculation of the final contribution to the parent entity or whatever is written in the Sub Consolidate() rules if using custom rules. then the total of all the contributions is what is written to the data input level of the parent entity (<Entity Currency> value member). when the consolidation process has finished, the parent calculation status changes from "CN" to "OK".
    then you repeat the process further up the tree until you reach the top level parent entity.
    if you choose "consolidate" on a top level entity where the children have not yet been calculated, the children will be calculated first automatically, before the consolidation can start. if you add "write to file" rules to the rules file, to log the consolidation process to a file, you will begin to understand the order of operations. HFM merely provides both "calculate" and "consolidate" choices in the user interface, as a convenience to separate the two operations in those cases where only one or the other is desired to be performed. since the consolidation cannot proceed until the calculation is completed, a consolidate of a parent that contains not-yet-calculated child entities will launch a calculate of those child entities automatically first. if you have a parent that has many children, it is sometimes beneficial to do the calculate separately so you can do small portions of the entity at a time, and then only when all the calculates are complete, to go ahead and launch the consolidation of the parent.
    an explanation of what happens in the consolidation process step by step, is provided in the Oracle HFM documentation. you should also consider to attend the Oracle University courses ("Create and Manage Applications" and the "Create Rules" courses, before you fully understand the concepts of HFM and can market yourself to potential clients as a consultant or competent user.
    also there is at least one book available on the subject of HFM.
    please mark the thread as answered/helpful if you can understand the above explanation.

  • Difference between addChild and internal movieclip

    Hi all,
    What is the difference bettween addChild and the movieclip which is in the movieclip.
    we can get those instance from getChildAt() but
    as per the internal movieclip we can get instance from "mc.mcInternal".
    But when i addChild in "mc" we unable to get that instance from this method "mc.mcInternal".
    what is the diffecenct between addChild and internal movieclip.
    Thanks in Advance
    flashgeeks.

    When you create child movieclips inside a parent movieclip, Flash Pro automatically declares member variables for them, so you can access them by "mc.mcInternal". If you add child to a movieclip at runtime, member variables are no longer declared automatically.
    You either declare member variable yourself (public var myMc:MovieClip;) or you can always access it by myParentMc.getChildByName("myChildMcName");
    Otherwise, there's no difference between the two. Only one more thing to keep in mind: If you put movieclip into another movieclip, you control its z-orderby its layer. When you add child by addChild() method, children are put into "depths", not layers anymore. The lowest depth is just above the highest layer. If you want to addChild() to a specific layer, you have to create an empty movieClip (a holder) in Flash Pro, put it in desired layer and then call myHolder.addChild(childMc).

  • Difference between extends and implements

    hi
    i am new to java. i need to know the difference between extends class implement class.
    can anybody explain in simple words? i am new too oops concept also?
    what are the conditions to use extends class, implement and interface?
    class b extends a implements c
    i know class a is a super class and class b is a sub class.
    if class b extends class a means how should be the class a, what about the methods?
    and class a implements class c means what should be the conditions?
    i searched in Internet but the explanation is not very to me.can body explain me please?
    thank you

    sarcasteak wrote:
    Your class can implement an interface, which means it must use the methods defined in the interface.No, it doesn't need to use them. It needs to implement them. Or be declared abstract.
    Note that the methods in the interface are empty,No, they're not. They're abstract.
    // empty method
    void foo() {}
    // abstract method
    abstract void foo();(The abstract keyword is optional for interface methods, since they're all abstract.
    and you have to define what they do in your class that implements the interface.Just like they have to for abstract methods in a class you extend, if the child class is not declared abstract.
    There really isn't any difference between "extends" and "implements." There is no situation where you can choose. Any case where one is legal, only that one is legal. They could just as easily be a single keyword.
    Presumably the OP's real question is, "When do I use a class for a supertype vs. using an interface for a supertype?" The answer to that, of course, is:
    Use a class when at least some of the methods have valid default implementations. Use an interface when that is not the case. And of course the two are not mutually exclusive. It's quite common to do both.
    At the end of the day, an interface is really nothing more than a class that has no non-final or non-static member variables and whose instance methods are all abstract, and from which you can multiply inherit.

  • Difference between Appropriation and Proportion?- HFM

    Dear Professionals,
    I am new to HFM, I have a query regarding Value dimension.
    What is the difference between Appropriation and Proportion?
    If possible give me simple examples..
    Help me out
    Thanks
    Sarath

    Allocation is a subroutine in rules, and also a general concept of taking amounts from one place and spreading them using some method to other places. Proportion is a specific value dimension member which stores non-eliminated data after consolidation rules have been executed. Combine that with Elimination data and any adjustments from [Contribution Adjs] and that's the amount the child contributes to the parent entity.

  • Difference between Store and NeverShare

    Hi,
    I was forced to use 'Never share' because of the issues faced during data entry in forms in HPB.
    I wanted to know if there is any disadvantage in using 'never share' from the point of view, that in the future, if the same parent has more than one child, never share will still aggregate and store the data. Is it necessary to change the property of the parent to 'Store' after addition of the new member? What is the real difference between store and never share, when the parent has more than one child?
    Why is it that we should use 'Never Share' only when necessary?
    Please let me know if my question is unclear.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the document. It was very helpful.
    This might be a stupid question, but it is really nagging me at the back of my head.
    If I have an alternate hierarchy which changes frequently over time, is it prudent to keep the parents as 'Never share', rather than store, to reduce the maintenance activities?
    Because if the parent which has two children today, has only one child tomorrow, and if the user forgets to change store to never share, the historical aggregated data for the parent will be overwritten.
    Any thoughts?

  • What is the difference between "create set" and "create dynamic set"?

    What is the difference between  "create set" and "create dynamic set"?
    we have a complete cube ready for production that was tested and working without any issues in non-r2. we found that some "create set" assignments don't work in R2. But when changed to from  "create set" to "create dynamic set"?
    they are working, However, not sure how it will impact other areas of the cube.

    Thanks YuliaKlimov, I can reproduce this issue, but I cannot explain the different behaviors between SSAS 2008 and 2008R2. As a workaround,
    could you try to use dynamic set or create statics set but with fixed member for example:
    CREATE
    SET CURRENTCUBE.[Prior Month] AS
    [Date].[Date Key].&[20050723].PrevMember
    , DISPLAY_FOLDER = 'Relative Period Sets';
    Personally, I think your set is dynamic set, because the currentmember is changed base on current selection. You can also submit this issue

  • Difference between Parent and Parent Curr Adjs

    Hi gurus,
    Kindly explain the difference between the Parent Adjs and Parent Curr Adjs.
    Thanks in advance

    Consider two members in the entity dimension "A" and "B" now both these members have a child as "C". Where "C" is the shared member. Now if you pass a Journal at <Parent Curr Adjs> of "C" then this journal entry has an affect on both the parents "A" and "B". Whereas if you pass an entry at <Parent Adjs> of"C" then you can also select the parent which you want to get affected by the same.
    Hope this is helpful

  • Difference between constructor & Methods if any ?

    In the below code I use the constructor ConstructorShirt1('M') to pass the value of M to the class ConstructorShirt1, but why do we have to do this, instead can we not just use a method and write the same thing in a method.
    class ConstructorShirt1Test {
         public static void main (String args[]) {
    ConstructorShirt1 constShirt = new ConstructorShirt1('M');
    char colorCode;
              colorCode = constShirt.getColorCode();
    System.out.println("Color Code: " + colorCode);
    class ConstructorShirt1 {
    private int shirtID = 0; // Default ID for the shirt
    private String description = "-description required-"; // default
    // The color codes are R=Red, B=Blue, G=Green, U=Unset
    private char colorCode = 'U';
    private double price = 0.0; // Default price for all items
    private int quantityInStock = 0; // Default quantity for all items
    public ConstructorShirt1(char startingCode) {
    switch (startingCode) {
    case 'R':
    case 'G':
    case 'B':
    colorCode = startingCode;
    break;
    default:
    System.out.println("Invalid colorCode. Use R, G, or B");
    public char getColorCode() {
    return colorCode;
    } // end of class
    So I am not clear what is the difference between constructor and methods if any ? or if not when to use a constructor and when to use a method.
    I would be glad if somebody throws light on this topic.
    PK

    There shouldn't be any confusion on this one... a constructor is meant to create an instance of the class. It can also set the state of its member variables in the process, like the constructor you are using. The same can also be done by a method.
    Wouldn't make much of a difference for simple programs, but this is more pertinent when it comes to designing classes. Like if the developer using the class needs to know what all states he has to set before he needs to do anything useful, then it is better to provide a constructor with some arguments for doing that.

  • What is the difference between NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03?

    Hi Experts,
    Can anydoby explain me the difference between NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03? or say difference between NetWeaver 7.2 and NetWeaver 7.02?
    I have been confused by these 2 terms. As far as I know, the features of AS ABAP in NetWeaver 7.3 and NetWeaver 7.03 are almost same. The same applies to NetWeaver 7.2 and NetWeaver 7.02.
    BTW, as I know the BS2011 are based on NetWeaver 7.03, PI 7.3 are based on NetWeaver 7.3.
    Thanks and Best Regards
