Difference between Generic and Generating functions

Hi,
Can any body explain me the difference between Generic and Generating functions? Do also let me kwno which Standard functions are Genereic and which are Generating/
Regards,
Pranshu

Hi Pranshu,
All functions (regardless of whether they are standard or user-defined functions) that do not have input values are refered to as Generating Functions (Constant, Sender, Receiver and CopyValue() are generating functions). All other functions are generic.
So, the standard XI functions can be generic or generating.
Hope this helps

  • Any difference between distinct and aggregate function in sql query cost???

    Hi,
I have executed many sql stmts patterns- such as:
    a) using a single table
    b) using two tables, using simple joins or outer joins
but i have not noticed any difference in sql stmts in cost and in execution plan....
Anyway, my colleague insists on that using aggregate function is less costly compared to
distinct....(something i have not confirmed, that's why i beleive that they are exactly the same...)
For the above reffered 1st sql pattern.. we could for example use
    select distinct deptno
    from emp
    select count(*), deptno
    from emp
group by deptno select distinct owner, object_type from all_objects
select count(*), owner, object_type from all_objects
group by owner, object_typeHave you found any difference between the two ever...????
    Note: I use Ora DB 10g v2.
    Thank you,
    Sim

distinct and aggregate function are for different uses and may give same result but if u r using aggregate function to get distinct records, it will be expensive...

    select distinct deptno from scott.dept;

  • What is the difference between SEOK and SEOF function group?

    Best regards,

    Hi,
All class data manipulations are done with function modules from SEOK package (ABAP Objects Class Builder Services).  SEOF - ABAP Objects Class Library Database Layer

  • Difference between 0PM_OM_OPA_1 and 0PM_OM_OPA_2 Functionality wise

    Dear All,
0PM_OM_OPA_1 this one will not support delta and it brings planned costs
0PM_OM_OPA_2 supports delta brings actual data
that means we should load only once 0PM_OM_OPA_1  and delta loads with actual data?
actually when iam loading both the data through both data sources  the values are doubled (keyfigure values).
    Please anybody can suggest me.
in standard version  both the data sources are assigned to 0pm_c01 cube.
0PM_OM_OPA_1 either should be loaded daily with full load?
0PM_OM_OPA_2 should be loaded with delta daily?
pls can anybody give the clear picture.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Vikram,
Thanks for your kind responce some more clarification i need from your end.
Please put a filter on value type 20 on the data from 0PM_OM_OPA_1 .
Here value type 20 means we will get planned data only that means at info package level i can keep selection and i should extract the only value type 20 data.
Do not use it to get actuals.
once i selected that value type 20 automatically i will not get actual data from 0pm_om_opa_1 it is correct?
that means in process chain for 0PM_OM_OPA_1 full load with restrictions of value type 20 ? agin it should be full load ,the load directly loading to cube so i can delete overlapping request property also?
0PM_OM_OPA_2 for this as usal delta daily load in this data source the value type should be 10?
pls can you clarify the above,  am very thank ful to you.pls
    any update pls
    Thansk & Regards,

  • Difference between RV_PRICE_PRINT_ITEM and RV_PRICE_PRINT_ITEM_BUFFER FMs

    Hi Experts,
I want to know the difference between RV_PRICE_PRINT_ITEM and RV_PRICE_PRINT_ITEM_BUFFER function modules.
Both FMs are meant to fetch all pricing condtions for document.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sagar

In the calculation schema you can customize your conditions. E.G: if they shall be printed or not.
So the FM gets you back two tables of conditions.
    TKOMV (ALL of em)
TKOMVD (Just the ones that are marked as to be printed)
Those ones from TKOMVD are the ones you need for invoice printing.
But for calculation issues or whatever you may need to have a look at some conditions which are not marked as to be printed and so you get TKOMV back to be able to do so.

  • Functional differences between OBISE1 and OBIEE

    Hello,
beside the licensing restrictions, there are some funtional differences between OBISE1 and OBIEE. I have seen some very neat features in OBIEE which are not implemented in OBISE1, e. g. generating powerpoint or the assistants for bi publisher in word. The actual release of EE is 10.1.3.4.0 and it is 10.1.3.2.1 for SE1. Does anyone know, if SE1 will be upgraded to 10.1.3.4.0? And if yes, will Interactive Dashboards, Answers and BI Publisher in this relaese have the functional range of EE?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
    Thomas

    Balaa,
This question has been posted a number of times. Yes, Server, Answers, Dashboards and Publisher are functionally identical in BISE1 and BIEE. You can use BIEE 10.1.3.4.1 to upgrade your BISE1 10.1.3.2.1 (Oracle trust you not to use the stuff you are not licensed to use such as Delivers).
See my oracle support note document id 743916.1 on metalink3 ...
Oracle BI SE1: Patch to 10.1.3.4
Upgrading Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One to higher versions of the underlying components
"Customers may upgrade to the latest 10.1.3.x versions of the BI components by running the BI Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.x Installer. They will be alerted that there is an installation already present and prompted to preserve the existing configuration. They should choose that option and the installer will leave the existing configuration (to include Repository, Web Catalog, etc) in tact and install the newer versions of the components. Note that when upgrading, all BI components must be upgraded to the same version. Customers may upgrade to the latest versions of Oracle Database 10g or Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g by applying the supported appropriate patches as needed. A note on platform support -- Oracle BI SE One is available for Windows platforms only. Oracle does not support Oracle BI SE One on other platforms. A note on licensing -- By license, customers are restricted to using BI Server, BI Answers, BI Dashboards, BI Publisher, BI Administration Tool, Oracle RDBMS, Oracle Warehouse Builder Core ETL functionality. Note that the BI SE One installation installs all of the BI components -- those listed above as well as Delivers, Office Plug-in, etc. If customers wish to use those additional components they are required to upgrade to a BI Enterprise Edition license."

  • Difference between Generic extraction and Generic Delta

    Hi Experts,
Pleasee give of some information below  query:
    1) Difference between Generic extraction and Generic Delta.
    2) How to achieve Generic delta.
    3) When we go for Generic delta instead of generic extraction.
Advance ThankU. Points vl be assigned.
    Thanks,
    Ragu.R

    Hi,
Generic delta is the delta load done using Generic DS.
    Generic extraction
    Usage:
    1. When the standard extractors are not supporting the extraction what you need. If SAP does not have a standard extractor for your need to get data from R3, you would have to go for generic extractor.
    2. If you create a custom object say by combining certain base tables in R3 say custom tables ZTAB1 and ZTAB2. These two tables are not SAP provided tables and there will not be any standard extractors. So cases like this you will have to go for generic extractors.
    How:
You have to use RSO2 transaction and you can also set delta based on, one of the three characteristics such as timestamp, calday or pointer (a sequence no).
once you create it and activate it. The extractor will be available in ROOSOURCE - (table in R3 where all the data sources are available).

    Hi,
    newbie wrote:
a little confusing ..in differences between procedures and functions..
    1. Can a function return only single value?? cant we return multiple values?Yes, a function can only return a single value.
If the return type is some kind of collection or data structure, then that 1 collection or data structure can, of course, actually contain many sep[arate values.
If you want to return multiple values, use a PROCEDURE with multiple OUT arguments.  (Functions can have OUT arguments, too, but avoid defining functions with OUT arguments.  It can cause a lot of confusion.)
    2. Can we use 'out' parameter and 'return' clause at a time in the same functionSure, but don't take my word for it.  Try it and see.

  • What is the difference between subroutine and function module?

What is the difference between subroutine and function module?

    Hi,
    they can both return values.
FMs are mainly used when a routine is to be performed by many programs.
Subroutines (forms) are generally only executed within one program.
You can perform routines from other programs, but it's not often done.
both forms and FMs are reusable modularization units.
To distinguish we generally say that forms are used for internal modularization and
FMs are used for external modularization.
To decide on which to implement, consider whether you need the content to be used just for a limited program
or wheteher it can be called from many independent programs.
For the first purpose it is better to implement a form whereas for the second we implement an FM.
However, ABAP does not isolate the usage context.
That is; you can call a form from another program within whose code the form is not actually implemented.
However, this requires attention since the form may utilize global variables.
The same issue holds for FMs.
FMs are encapsulated in function groups and function groups may have global variables that can be globally
used by all FMs inside it.
    Thanks,

  • Difference between procedure and function

    hi
please give solution to below discussion:
Interviewer: What is the difference between Procedure and Function ?
Myself: Procedure may or may not return a value and can return multiple values and Function must return a value.
Interviewer : Can function return multiple values ?
myself: Yes, It can return multiple values.
Interviewer: Then, there is no need to use procedures any more, according to your previous answer (function can return multiple values) "we can do all the things by using procedures by using functions". Then why there is differentiation between procedure and function ?
myself : no reply (simply frustated at this question)
The above is conversation between me and interviewer.
Please suggest me what would be my reply to above topic.
In one book i find that using functions we can return multiple values but it is poor programming practice.
why this is a programming practice ?
    please suggest me solution

Another difference is function must return something. There is no such restriction on procedure. In fact, a procedure CANNOT contain an expression in its RETURN statement.

I really want to know if these functions (or) similar functions are supported/availabe in MySQL.

What's so hard about finding a "best linux distro for installing Oracle11g"? The supported distros are listed in the fine Installation Guide for Linux. At the top of the list is Oracle's own Oracle Linux, which is in the same family as Red Hat.
so i am planning to switch to MySQL. Please help, Thanks in advance.
