JOIN is combining factor or two data sources.
Subquery is the resultant set of datasource(s) which can be joined/compared to other data source in your main query.

    I've eventually figured out how to get my AirPort Express to allow my Mac Pro access to the internet Via Ethernet cable by joining an existing wireless network. What's the difference between that and extending it? By extending it I loose my ability to use the ethernet to connect to internet on my Mac Pro. Odd thing is though when I initially used AirPort Utility to set up my AirPort Express, I went through all the options to get it configured to access my existing network and I checked option to allow internet access through ethernet. All is well, but then I still don't have access to the internet through the ethernet and I noticed that the setting is on Extended. Just curious why it would give me the option to use the ethernet, set it on extended and not even work.

    When "joining a network," the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) acts just like any other wireless client (laptop, desktop, printer, etc.) You would want to configure the AX to join a network when you only want to use it to share a USB printer and/or stream iTunes.
    When "extending a network," the AX can perform as either a main, relay, or remote base station in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). A WDS is primarily used to extend a network wirelessly.
    By extending it I loose my ability to use the ethernet to connect to internet on my Mac Pro.
    If the AX is configured as either a relay/remote base station in a WDS, you actually can use it's Ethernet port for Internet access. Of course, this relay/remote must be connected to a main base station, that itself, has Internet access.

    Just added an airport express to my time capsule network. I realise that if I use the AEx to "extend" my network then the time capsule is relegated to 802.11b/g and not n.
    Is the same true if I just "join" the AEx to the network and use it for iTunes and remote speakers?

    Good news! That is not true. 802.11n offers the "extend" feature only between 802.11m base stations.
    If you use WDS you get the same functionality but you are forced to 802.11g.
    Is the same true if I just "join" the AEx to the network and use it for iTunes and remote speakers?
    When the AirPort Express (AX) is configured to join a wireless network it simply acts as just another wireless client. Therefore if the network is using 802.11n the AX will communicate using 802.11n.

    if i have these queries
    1- select ename from emp where ename in ( select ename from emp where empno=10)
    and
    2- select ename from emp where exists ( select ename from emp where empno=10)
    what is the difference between exists and in is that only when i use in i have to bring the field name or what.... i mean in a complex SQL queries is it will give the same answer

    You get two entirely different result sets that may be the same. Haah! What do I mean by that.

    TABLE_NAME
    FOO

    SQL> select table_name from user_tables where exists(select table_name from user_tables where table_name = 'FOO');
    TABLE_NAME
    BAR
    FOO
    2 rows selected.So, why is this? the WHERE EXISTS means 'if the next is true', much like where 1=1 being always true and 1=2 being always false. In this case, where exists could be TRUE or FALSE, depending on the subquery.
    WHERE EXISTS can be useful for something like testing if we have data, without actually having to return columns.
    So, if you want to see if an employee exists you might say
    SELECT 1 FROM DUAL WHERE EXISTS( select * from emp where empid = 10);
    If there is a row in emp for empid=10, then you get back 1 from dual;
    This is what I call an 'optimistic' lookup because the WHERE EXISTS ends as soon as there is a hit. It does not care how many - only that at least one exists. It is optimistic because it will continue processing the table lookup until either it hits or reaches the end of the table - for a non-indexed query.

  • T-Code for reporting stock quantity difference between IM and WM

    Hi All
    I'm probably going to kick myself for asking this quastion but is there a report to show the stock quantity differences between IM and WM?
    I have searched the forum first but cannot find info.
    We have various differences in IM and WM shown in MD04 and LS26. This is usually the result of an unplanned plant to plant transfer not being recipted in at the destination plant.
    If no standard T-code is available, which tables can I join to create my own query?

    compare MMBE with LS26
    Make sure you dont enter a storage location and storage type in selection screen of LS26.
    if you post a difference with LI20, then you have just posted a difference within WM, means you moved a quantity from a bin into the difference storate type 998.  The balance of both is still equal to your stock shown in MMBE. You have to clear the difference with IM by executing LI21 transaction. Only then the quantity will disappear from difference storage type and will be adjusted in MM and FI.
    LX23 will only report real inconstencies and will adjust them.
    If you do a MM movement like 303, then this creates a transfer request in WM, this TR needs to be converted into a TO. to move the stock from the bin to the interim storage type for goods issue.
    In your case you created just a negative quant in the interim storage type for goods issue and still have a positive quant in the bin, the balance is equal to the stock shown in MMBE.

       The big difference when designing for OLAP versus OLTP is rooted in the basics of how the tables are going to be used. I'll discuss OLTP versus OLAP in context to the design of dimensional data warehouses. However, keep in mind there are more architectural components that make up a mature, best practices data warehouse than just the dimensional data warehouse.

    With OLTP, the tables are designed to facilitate fast inserting, updating and deleting rows of information with each logical unit of work. The database design is highly normalized. Usually and at least to 3NF. Each logical unit of work in an online application will have a relatively small scope with regard to the number of tables that are referenced and/or updated. Also the online application itself handles the majority of the work for joining data to facilitate the screen functions. This means the user doesn't have to worry about traversing across large data relationship paths. A heavy dose of lookup/reference tables and much focus on referential integrity between foreign keys. The physical design of the database needs to take into considerations the need for inserting rows when deciding on physical space settings. A good book for getting a solid base understanding of modeling for OLTP is The Data Modeling Handbook: A Best-Practice Approach to Building Quality Data Models by Michael C. Reingruber, William W. Gregory.
    Example: Let's say we have a purchase oder management system. We need to be able to take orders for our customers, and we need to be able to sell many items on each order. We need to capture the store that sold the item, the customer that bought the item (and where we need to ship things and where to bill) and we need to make sure that we pull from the valid store_items to get the correct item number, description and price. Our OLTP data model will contain a CUSTOMER_MASTER, A CUSTOMER_ADDRESS_MASTER, A STORE_MASTER, AN ITEM_MASTER, AN ITEM_PRICE_MASTER, A PURCHASE_ORDER_MASTER AND A PURCHASE_ORDER_LINE_ITEM table. Then we might have a series of M:M relationships for example. An ITEM might have a different price for specific time periods for specific stores.
    With OLAP, the tables are designed to facilitate easy access to information. Today's OLAP tools make the job of developing a query very easy. However, you still want to minimize the extensiveness of the relational model in an OLAP application. Users don't have the wills and means to learn how to work through a complex maze of table relationships. So you'll design your tables with a high degree of denormalization. The most prevalent design scheme for OLAP is the Star-Schema, popularized by Ralph Kimball. The star schema has a FACT table that contains the elements of data that are used arithmatically (counting, summing, averaging, etc.) The FACT Table is surrounded by lookup tables called Dimensions. Each Dimension table provides a reference to those things that you want to analyze by. A good book to understand how to design OLAP solutions is The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses by Ralph Kimball.
    Example: let's say we want to see some key measures about purchases. We want to know how many items and the sales amount that are purchased by what kind of customer across which stores. The FACT table will contain a column for Qty-purchased and Purchase Amount. The DIMENSION tables will include the ITEM_DESC (contains the item_id & Description), the CUSTOMER_TYPE, the STORE (Store_id & store name), and TIME (contains calendar information such as the date, the month_end_date, quarter_end_date, day_of_week, etc).

    Can anyone tell me the difference between RP_PROVIDE_FROM_LAST and RP-PROVIDE-FROM-LAST?  Both the macros are same difference is with underscore(_) and hiphen(-).  Both are working fine for the functionality without any difference.  Then why there are two macros for a single functionality?

    Just providing the links are considered as link farming ( which are against the rules of the forums ), the links would be removed for the following reasons:

    If you specify ALL, then Oracle evaluates each WHEN clause regardless of the results of the evaluation of any other WHEN clause. For each WHEN clause whose condition evaluates to true, Oracle executes the corresponding INTO clause list.
    FIRST
    If you specify FIRST, then Oracle evaluates each WHEN clause in the order in which it appears in the statement. For the first WHEN clause that evaluates to true, Oracle executes the corresponding INTO clause and skips subsequent WHEN clauses for the given row.
    ELSE clause
    For a given row, if no WHEN clause evaluates to true:
    * If you have specified an ELSE clause, then Oracle executes the INTO clause list associated with the ELSE clause.

    Hi,
    In infoset we can join Infocubes,DSOs,Mater data table.It works on join codition.
    For ex: I want to generate a report with cobination of MM and SD field.which are available in my MM amd SD cubes.So that i'll creat a infoset and join these two cubes.Then i can ablle gerenat a required report.But here codition is that 'One common field is must in both cubes' then only it works.
    Infocube is a MDM model.

    r.- That is quite related to what options you need for your applications. Options like : partitioning, etc.
    With this view you can see what options are available in your database.

  • Difference between "extend" and participate"?

    I have two Airport Extremes and a Time Capsule. One Extreme is in my home office, which is in the basement at the far corner of an "L" shaped house. The TC sits upstairs, midway through the house, and the other Extreme is at the distant end of the house (with an Apple TV plugged into it). Set up this way, I get good signals for laptops etc. throughout the house.
    I just noticed in checking in Airport Utility that the Time Capsule is set up to join a wireless network and the distant Extreme is set up to extend a wireless network. (The Extreme in my office is set up to allow the network to be extended.) I guess I'm not sure what the difference is between joining and extending, and whether this setup is optimal or not. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    If you hold down the "option" key on your computer, you may see the "join" option. But, "join" on an AirPort Extreme really does nothing useful. I'm not sure it even works, but even if it did, the ethernet ports are not active in this setting and the device will not "extend a wireless network" in the "join" setting. I can't think of a reason why anyone would want to use this setting. My guess is that is why Apple "hid" the "join" setting.
    +(As an aside, I am assuming that these new dual-band Airport Extremes have solved the issue of "g" devices slowing down the network when they join... I assume that is the point of the dual-band gear.... am I correct?)+
    Yes, this is correct. Faster devices work on one band and slower on another and the slower devices do not slow down the faster devices.

    Online transactional processing (OLTP) is designed to efficiently process high volumes of transactions, instantly recording business events (such as a sales invoice payment) and reflecting changes as they occur.
    Online analytical processing (OLAP) is designed for analysis and decision support, allowing exploration of often hidden relationships in large amounts of data by providing unlimited views of multiple relationships at any cross-section of defined business dimensions.
    OLTP databases are typically input sources for data warehouses or data marts. The data warehouse in turn is the typical source of data for an OLAP database. The value in an OLAP database is that many complex calculations and predefined queries are preprocessed and results are stored and are available via an OLAP exploitation application allowing quick access to cross-sections of business data. Rapid access to the aggregate information across defined business dimensions allows quick navigation and understanding of relationships.
    The challenge is to find a solution that will both supply the necessary functionality while addressing the technical considerations of your organization. Some other important considerations include choosing technologies that can leverage existing investments in both hardware and software, and are open and integrated so that your applications are adaptable. This ensures flexibility and agility to meet future business demands.
    There are several different modeling techniques. Snowflake and star schemas are just two of many choices.     The big difference when designing for OLAP versus OLTP is rooted in the basics of how the tables are going to be used. I'll discuss OLTP versus OLAP in context to the design of dimensional data warehouses. However, keep in mind there are more architectural components that make up a mature, best practices data warehouse than just the dimensional data warehouse.

    With OLTP, the tables are designed to facilitate fast inserting, updating and deleting rows of information with each logical unit of work. The database design is highly normalized. Usually and at least to 3NF. Each logical unit of work in an online application will have a relatively small scope with regard to the number of tables that are referenced and/or updated. Also the online application itself handles the majority of the work for joining data to facilitate the screen functions. This means the user doesn't have to worry about traversing across large data relationship paths. A heavy dose of lookup/reference tables and much focus on referential integrity between foreign keys. The physical design of the database needs to take into considerations the need for inserting rows when deciding on physical space settings. A good book for getting a solid base understanding of modeling for OLTP is The Data Modeling Handbook: A Best-Practice Approach to Building Quality Data Models by Michael C. Reingruber, William W. Gregory.
    Example: Let's say we have a purchase oder management system. We need to be able to take orders for our customers, and we need to be able to sell many items on each order. We need to capture the store that sold the item, the customer that bought the item (and where we need to ship things and where to bill) and we need to make sure that we pull from the valid store_items to get the correct item number, description and price. Our OLTP data model will contain a CUSTOMER_MASTER, A CUSTOMER_ADDRESS_MASTER, A STORE_MASTER, AN ITEM_MASTER, AN ITEM_PRICE_MASTER, A PURCHASE_ORDER_MASTER AND A PURCHASE_ORDER_LINE_ITEM table. Then we might have a series of M:M relationships for example. An ITEM might have a different price for specific time periods for specific stores.
    With OLAP, the tables are designed to facilitate easy access to information. Today's OLAP tools make the job of developing a query very easy. However, you still want to minimize the extensiveness of the relational model in an OLAP application. Users don't have the wills and means to learn how to work through a complex maze of table relationships. So you'll design your tables with a high degree of denormalization. The most prevalent design scheme for OLAP is the Star-Schema, popularized by Ralph Kimball. The star schema has a FACT table that contains the elements of data that are used arithmatically (counting, summing, averaging, etc.) The FACT Table is surrounded by lookup tables called Dimensions. Each Dimension table provides a reference to those things that you want to analyze by. A good book to understand how to design OLAP solutions is The Data Warehouse Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Building Dimensional Data Warehouses by Ralph Kimball.
    Example: let's say we want to see some key measures about purchases. We want to know how many items and the sales amount that are purchased by what kind of customer across which stores. The FACT table will contain a column for Qty-purchased and Purchase Amount. The DIMENSION tables will include the ITEM_DESC (contains the item_id & Description), the CUSTOMER_TYPE, the STORE (Store_id & store name), and TIME (contains calendar information such as the date, the month_end_date, quarter_end_date, day_of_week, etc).
