Difference between Oracle SID and an Oracle Database

Hi
Can any one please differeniate what exactly is the difference between an Oracle SID and a new Oracle Database?
We just need to create another instance of an application (so we need another copy of all tables).
So either we can:
1. New database SID created or
2. New user created in existing schema or
3. New database provided
Which is the best approach?

Hi,
New database SID created orThat is equivalent of creating a new database in your case.
New user created in existing schema orYou meant new schema(user) created in existing database. I assumed this because you do not want both application to update the same table copy, but different copy.
3. New database providedIt all depends on your you whether you want to create a new database or a new schema for getting another copy of table.
Some points which I take in mind
1) If I have a production database and I need to create a new set of tables for testing or any other purpose, I would create a new database.
2) If I have a test database and I need to create a new set of tables for testing or any other purpose, if possible I would create a new schema in existing database.
3) If I am running less in resources(hardware/memory), I would be createing a new schema in existing database.
4) If I am not running less in resources and I would to keep these two copies entirely different, then from security purpose I would create a new database.

  • What are all difference between 11g Mediator and 10g Oracle service bus.

    hi all ,
Apart from SCA concept , storing location
is thr any other difference between 11g Mediator and 10g Oracle service bus ?
    thx in advance..

11g introduces the SCA architecture for building the service infrastructure.
    SOA 11g uses:-
    1. Uses the weblogic Server and BEA Aqualogic Service Bus (ALSB) for the Oracle Service Bus.
    2. BPEL uses scalable DOM with reduced memory usage.
    3. New adapters and leverage for Java 2 Connector Architecture (J2CA)
    4. BAM finally ported from .Net to J2EE and is part of the service infrastructure
    5. Oracle Web Services Management built into SOA 11g service infrastructure
    6. New adapters and leverage for Java 2 Connector Architecture (J2CA). Tighter integration with E-Business Suite & large payload support.
    7. Business Rules in SOA 10g business rules are managed using the Rules Author & in SOA 11g business rules are managed using JDeveloper and SOA composer

  • Difference between instant client and full oracle client

    Everyone,
I had read the below lines from a goldengate pdf. Someone please explain me what is the difference between instant client and full oracle client?
What is the use of XDK libraries.?
" The full Oracle client must be used with GoldenGate so that the GoldenGate programs
have access to the Oracle XDK libraries. Do not use Oracle Instant Client, which lacks
those libraries. You can download the full client from Oracle’s website."
    Regards,
    SAKTHi

    The dealio is this:
When you install client software, you have several options as to the degree of what you get/install. The big chicken dinner is administrator, so you get all kinds of extra features, add-ons, libraries, utilities, etc. At the hard candy Christmas end is instant client, and that has just enough functionality to, as you may surmise by now, connect a client and that's about it. Various libraries have functionality built in to do whatever extra is required. An example is FAN, or fast application notification, used in Data Guard failover. A FAN API (Java) will detect a failover and re-direct a client connection to the new primary. What GG uses XDK for (specifically) isn't of importance to a user, just the fact that it is available for connecting to Oracle is.

  • Differences between ANSI SQL and Oracle 8/9

    Hallo,
i'm looking for good online texts or books concerning the problem "Differences between ANSI SQL and different database implementations (ORACLE, Informix, MySQL...)" I want to check a program written in C (with ESQL) that works with an Informix-DB. In this code i want to find code that is specific to the Informix-DB. I want to change the database, so all the code should be independent from a DB. Does anybody know texts or books concerning this problem?
    thx

Basically there is syntax difference between both of them.
Lets say i want to join two table EMP and DEPT based on DEPTNO.
With Oracle SQL format its like this.
    select e.*
      from emp e, dept d
where e.deptno = d.deptnoHere the joining condition goes in the WHERE clause.
With ANSI SQL format its like this.
    select e.*
      from emp e
      join dept d
on e.deptno = d.deptnoHere the join condition is mentioned separately and not in WHERE clause.
Oracle supports ANSI SQL starting from 9i version.

ThanksIt seems that you are posting alot of such questions, here is one thread of the same nature.
What are the differences between the following Oracle database views?
Please search in the oracle docs to find the information and if you have read it already, please post your doubts about it. It would help you in a better way to understand things and also would make you corrected where you would be wrong.

  • What is the differences between the older version of Oracle Financials and the 11 i

What is the differences between the older version of Oracle Financials and 11i?

Vijay,Thanks for your answer, but I am still not clear about it,I have a instance to describe my question at detail.
If there is a final product A, and the planning strategy for A is 20(MTO), the procurement type of A is F(external procurement) at the view mrp2 in the material master datas.
    step1: I creat a sales order.
    step2: run MRP for A.
step3: transfer the purchase requistion into a purchase order, and the field of acc.***.cat. in the purchase order will be filled out M automatically, because the acc.***.cat. in the planning strategy 20(MTO) is set with E.
Well, the purchase order is created, what is the relationship between the sales order and the purchase order? What will be happened about costing between the SO and the PO?
If I delete the E, I make the PO become a standard PO, what is difference between standard PO and the PO including E?

  • Difference between UGA, PGA and SGA in oracle

please tell me what is the difference between UGA, PGA and SGA in oracle in the simple layman language
    thanx in advance

    UGA
The User Global Area (UGA) is a memory area (RAM) that holds session-based information.
    Shared Server Area
When running in [[Shared Server]] mode (MTS with shared servers and dispatchers), sessions can be served by multiple server processes. As a result, the UGA cannot be stored in the [[PGA]], and is moved to the [[SGA]] (shared global area).
    Dedicated Server
When running in [[Dedicated Server]] mode (one session = one dedicated process), the UGA is stored in the [[PGA]] (process global area).

  • Difference between DB Export and Offline Database Backup

    Hi all,
           This is a conceptual Question.
I want more information on what is the difference between DB Export and Database Backup? Also, it would be helpful if you can provide me with some links to them where I can increase my knowledge regarding DB Export, why it is done and tell me some scenarios.
    Thanks.
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
I have no link for DB export for you, because you don't ask for a specific database. But if you like, you can read the export part of the System copy guide you can download from http://service.sap.com/instguides.
But may be a short description is enough:
    DB Export:
A DB export exports only the structure and data from the database, but no index pages. Therefore you have to build the indexes during the import. This could be very CPU intensive if your tables are big.
    DB Backup:
A backup is a copy of all used blocks/pages inside a database (in Oracle also unused blocks). This includes structures, data and indexes. When you restore it, only the blocks/pages were moved, no additional operations are necessary.
If you want to keep a small copy which is less release dependent than a backup, you should use a DB export (if you  use R3load, you are also DB independent). If you want to have a copy of your database which could be restored quickly , you should use a DB backup.

  • Difference between Instance Crash and Database Crash in Standalone and RAC?

Literally, database crash means that the database itself is damaged in some way. A disk is no more. Data files are corrupted. Etc. The database itself thus causes the crash - and a database crash will also cause all database instances (RAC or single) for that database to crash too.
An instance crash will therefore mean that the crash occurs in the instance due to an Oracle bug or similar. In other words a s/w error and not a database error. The database is still "fine", but the instance not. Instance crashes. However, any other instance on that same (RAC) database will still be fine as the database itself is unaffected by that s/w error in the crashed instance.
    If you mean something different, please enlighten us. Not all crashes are equal. {noformat};-){noformat}
