Difference in JRE 1.6.0_14 Classic Plug-in & JRE 1.6.0_14 Next Gen Plug-in

Using the "Next Gen Plug-in", when a method argument is passed as a "blank" from Javascript to Java, it is treated as NULL in Java, whereas if we use "Classic Plug-in", there is no change to the argument value and a blank argument is always treated as a blank in Java.
This "Next Gen Plug-in" is causing problem in our Application as "blank" value is treated as NULL when passed from javaScript to Java, thus throwing Null Pointer Exception.
Any idea to come out of this...

Our Application is standalone browser based (IE 6.0) application which communicates between JavascScript to Java using Applet. Below is the code snippet which gives problem when passing a blank value from java script to Java using Next Gen Plug-in -
JavaScript code -
var state = document.PrimaryInsured.DeliveryState.value;
The above code takes the value from a dropdown into variable 'state' and then calls the below Java method GetMaxJuvenileAge() with string parameter-
var juvenileAge = GetEALifeJavaUtils().GetMaxJuvenileAge(state);
Java code -
public int GetMaxJuvenileAge(String state)
if(state.equals("ABC"))
return 15;
else
return 16;
Now when variable state is blank (e.g. "") in javaScript and same is passed to java method then, java method take this value as blank when use 'Classic Plug-in' which is correct.
However when use 'Next Gen Plug-in' value comes in Java as null and we get null pointer exception in java.
We checked in javaScript that value is blank (not null) as state.length returns 0. So please help me in resolving this...

  • Difference between, jre, jdk, sdk and j2se

    Dear Sir/Madam,
    I want to do some java and j2ee development and run these applications in a java application server environment. Can anyone give me some advices on what should i need to download? Moreover, what is the difference between, jre, jdk, sdk and j2se? Should i need to download all of jre, jdk, sdk and j2se?
    thanks and regards,
    david

    JRE is the 'java runtime environment'. It is responsible for creating a Java Virtual Machine to execute Java class files (e.g., run Java programs)
    JDK is the 'java development kit'. It is the same as the 'SDK' (at least in my mind). It normally comes bundled with a JRE and also allows you to compile Java source files into Java class files. The JDK allows you to both write and run programs.
    J2SE is "Java 2 Standard Edition". It can refer to either a JDK or JRE. This is 'core' Java. There is also J2EE "Java 2 Enterprise Edition" which allows you to write middleware or server code more easily.
    Your final choice will be which version. If you want the current, most common implementation:
    J2SE 1.4.2, J2EE 1.3
    If you want to skip ahead to the next generation, the latest releases would be:
    J2SE 1.5 (also called J2SE 5.0) and J2EE 1.4

  • JRE msi - how to disable next-gen plugin ?

    Is anyone familiar with a method to modify the JRE 6u13 msi's tables such that the next-generation plugin (and auto-update if possible) are disabled? Thanks for your time and attention in advance.

    btenney,
    Thanks very much for your suggestion. Can you explain what the parameters are on the ssvagent.exe that you noted -high -jpisetup -old? I can't seem to find any information on the parameters. Also, will this set the configuration just for the user logged on (current user) OR for all users existing and future?
    We are having trouble getting next-gen java shut off for all possible users that may logon to a machine in future .. thus looking at putting in bootup login script, but hoping there is a better way to have it take affect at the machine level. Or to at least automate at the user level (existing and future windows users/profiles)

  • Itunes freezing when Ipod Classic plugged in

    When I plug in my ipod classic 80 gb,itunes freezes (cannot click or play anything) and an error message shows up.
    "There is a problem with this drive. Scan the dvice now to fix". Tried that and it doesn't work. It also says my ipod is not responding.
    The newest version of itunes is installed and our computer is windows 8.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at lots of other discussions but nothing has helped my problem.
    Thanks!

    I have the same problem: if I load iTunes for a second time and my iPod is plugged in the iTunes app and the system menus (top right corner of screen) freeze up.
    Unplugging and plugging in the iPod seems un-freeze everything for me.

  • OK to leave iPod Classic plugged in after charge?

    So I've got an iPod Classic, and it's great. But I want it to last as long as it can before I need a new one, so I want to know, is it bad for the battery to leave it plugged in after it finishes charging?

    Can anybody explain me the difference between the Classical with holding tax and withholding tax.
    Regards,
    Chandu

    Hi,
    SAP System, distinguishes between:
    - Classic withholding tax
    - Extended withholding tax
    Extended withholding tax enables the assignment of more than one withholding tax types to a business partner which is more of a real time scenario..
    Cheers

  • Why the difference between the Extension list and the Plug-in list

    On my Extension list I can see -
    Java Console 6.0.22 Enable
    Java Console 6.0.23 Enable
    Java Console 6.0.24 Enable
    Java Console 6.0.25 Disable
    The old versions have been disabled.
    On the Plug-in list I can see -
    Java Deplyment Toolkit 6.0.250.6
    Java Platform SE 6 U25
    If I check via the Control Panel I appear to have only
    Java 6 Update 25 installed.
    Why the discrepancy?
    Why do I still see references to older versions, and presumably not on the computer any more, shown on the Extensions list?

    That link was most helpful. Opening FireFox as an Admin, something I had never thought of, allowed me to remove the dead wood from the 'Extensions' display.
    Previously, the only way I could be certain exactly what was actually available was by visiting Control Panel ... Programs and Features
    Thanks to both of you for your interest.

  • Forms behavior differences switching from JInit to Sun's Plug-in?

    What differences are there in Forms behavior after switching from JInit v 1.3.1.26 to Sun's 1.4.2_06 plugin?
    We are running Oracle Forms v 10.1.2.2.0, Internet Application Server v 10.1.2, and IE 7.
    Thanks
    KenV

    The biggest differences I have seen has to do with fonts and space between lines.
    If you have a tightly built form where prompts and items are close together, they might be aligned slightly differently.
    Prompts for column headings that may be on two lines might have more space or less space between the two lines.
    In LOVs, the lines are farther apart or closer together.
    Same goes for fields where word wrap is allowed (where text in the item displays on more than one line).

  • Can't play music from Universal Dock when iPod classic plugged in

    According to the iPod classic manual, one can play music or video while the iPod is connected to the computer or AC power to be charged up. However, this is not working for me. Instead, it says "Connected", and won't actually let me play music unless I unplug the USB cable. I have set iTunes to NOT start automatically, otherwise it will just sync over and over again, and still never play music. I know the iPod and dock are working correctly because if I unplug the USB cable from my computer, it plays music through the dock as expected. Suggestions? Thanks.

    Alas, not so easy. No matter what way I use to eject it from iTunes, once it stops with the "Ok to disconnect" bit, if it is still in the cradle (which it needs to be for playing), it toggles back to Connected, and the following dialog box from iTunes pops up, saying:
    "The iPod <name of iPod> cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
    The only application using it is iTunes. I've tried exiting iTunes quickly, no joy. [Aside to discussion forum moderators: There doesn't seem to be a way to paste in a bitmap to show the dialog. Oh well.]
    I just found a work-around, basically telling Windows at the OS level to remove the iPod qua USB device (usual way, right-click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon, choose the drive letter associated with the iPod), and that seems to do it. The battery icon is in the AC power state, so it's still on external power even though the OS doesn't see it. So maybe that's good enough. Although that's still something that iTunes ought to be doing, I would think.
