Different planning strategy in defferent planning scenario

Hi ,
Is anybody can explain me how can use different planning strategy in different planning scenario ?
Thanks !

Hello Denny
Planning strategies represent the business procedures for the planning of production quantities and dates. A wide range of production planning strategies are available in the SAP R/3 System, offering a large number of different options ranging from pure make-to-order production to make-to-stock production. Depending on the strategy you choose, you can:
Use sales orders and/or sales forecast values to create the demand program
Move the stocking level down to the assembly level so that final assembly is triggered by the incoming sales order
Carry out Demand Management specifically for the assembly
Choose a make-to-stock strategy, if:
The materials are not segregated. In other words, they are not assigned to specific sales orders.
Costs need to be tracked at material level, and not at sales order level.
You should always use make-to-stock production if you produce stock independently of orders because you want to provide your customers immediately with goods from that stock later on. You might even want to produce goods without having sales orders, if you expect that there might be customer demand in the future. This means that make-to-stock strategies can support a very close customer-vendor relationship because your objective here is to provide your customers with goods from your stock as quickly as possible. Returns that have passed quality inspection and other unexpected goods receipts can be used for other sales orders.
This does not mean that you have unreasonably high stock levels. You can avoid them by doing one of the following:
Create a production plan in advance (in Demand Management) to plan your stock.
If you make use of this option, you may also want to decide whether sales orders exceeding your plan are to affect production or not.
Receive sales orders relatively early on (using scheduling agreements, for example).
Choose a make-to-order strategy, if:
The materials are segregated. In other words, they are uniquely assigned to specific sales orders.
Costs must be tracked at sales order level and not on material level.

• Planning Strategy 56: Characteristics planning

Dear experts,
I am using strategy 56 for characteristics planning for nested KMAT materials. When i give PIRs for the header KMAT
material, the planned order is not convertible into prod. order. Upto this, it is OK.
But when it comes to next level KMAT the planned order is also not convertible.
So please guide me how to make the second level KMAT palnned orders convertible to production orders as we are
working in ATO(Assemble to order) scenario.

• When will EK02 appear in the Sales Order?? For different planning strategy?

Hi Experts,
In our SAP system ,when you create a sales order with a material which planning strategy is
50 Planning without final assembly (MTO) , in the item detail screen , on the "Conditions"
TAB, we will see condition type EK02 and its value.
But when I create a sales order with a material which planning strategy is 40 Planning with
final assembly (MTS),in the item detail screen , on the "Conditions" TAB, condition type
EK02 will not appear.
I have checked the customizing of our SAP system ,as follows:
For planning strategy 50, the Requirements class is "045"(MTO val. with cons.),and on the
configuration screen of Requirements class,we see "Condition type for copying costs from
line items" (CndTyLineItems) is null ,no value ,not "EK02".
And for planning strategy 50,the the Requirements class is "050"(Warehouse consumpt.) and
and on the configuration screen of Requirements class,we see "Condition type for copying
costs from line items" (CndTyLineItems) is also null ,no value ,not "EK02".
And on the configuration screen of Sale Order Type screen(VOV8), we see "Condition type for
copying costs from line items" (CndTyLineItems) is "EK02" for all the sales order type we
have used.
So I am very confused.
Why material with planning strategy 40 there is no EK02 in the sales order?
Why material with planning strategy 50 there is EK02 in the sales order?
Where is the EK02 come from? The requriement class ? Or the Salse order Type?
Are there any other customizing for Condition type EK02 determination?
Thanks very for any reply!!

Hi,
In MTO you will create Process order.
And to Produce a Item you use Sub components that is Raw material
That raw material cost is EK02 which you maintain in the Material Master - Accounting View 1.
You can see cost in the Process Order also .

• Combining Planning Strategy

Hello All:
One of our requirements happens to be that when sales order comes in near future (within time fence as an example) - we want to explode into the BOM and look at components availability and promise the sales order to the comp availability. Additionally, When sales order comes in FUTURE - we want to leave MRP to plan for that instead of ATO to be invoked.
One of our potential solutions we tried was to have Planning Strategy 81 (create planned order based on component availability based on works availability of component). This will be a order type 'KD' from MTO/Assemble to order. This makes it an ATO all the time (even for a sales order which is way far out).
We want to be able to create a 'standard' planned order outside of planning time fence. This will be the 'LA' type of stock order. Is this possible thru combination of planning strategies with 81 or any other strategy like 63 etc..? Thanks in advance.

VG,
Why don't you use Strategy 81 throughout the entire horizon? If you set the ATP of your components to consider 'Lead time', then all sales orders 'far' into the future will be automatically confirmed. Regular MRP runs will tell you when you actually need to buy/build the components.

• Planning Strategy that drive demand on both PIR and Sales Order

Hi,
Do anyone know is there any planning strategy that i could use to drive demand on both PIR and SO? PS 40 won't suitable as it will compare between PIR and SO and only drive demand on which is higher in term of quantity loaded in. I am looking on a planning strategy which will sum up both PIR and SO as total demand.
Thank you.

Hi,
Try Planning Strategy Production By Lot Size (30) it will create planned order by mrp run from PIR and SO, no consumption will do for this planning strategy. This planning strategy commonly used where you want to keep existing sales order in MD04 (usually contract sales type, not a direct sales) as a requirement to generate planned order.

• Planning strategy for Both scenario of Make to order and make to stock

Hi
My client having Both scenario of Make to order and make to stock ,so please explain me step by step which Planning strategy is use for following situation
1.Forecast the production quantities for the variants and create the PIRs
2.sales order is created for variants
3.Planned independent requirements should consumed by incoming sales orders
Note:If it is MTO scenario i need sales order reference number in production order
With regards
Laxmipathi

Hi,
You can Define Strategy Group under SPRO>Production>Prod.Planning>PIR>Planning strategy-->define st.Group.
In this step, you group strategies together into a strategy group. You can determine a main strategy as well as up to seven alternative strategies.
The main strategy is proposed in demand management or in sales order management and can be overwritten by another planning strategy defined in the strategy group.
You can allocate the strategy groups to the materials directly in the material master record, or you can allocate the strategy groups to an MRP group and then in a second step allocate the MRP group to the material in the material master record.
Hope it will help you.

• How to use Different Calendars in one DP Planning Area

Hi Experts,
I would like to know that whether it is possible to use different calendars in single planning area ? Will explain the scenario in details as under
We have 3 plants having separate calendars (different weekly offs). Now using single planning area in DP, I have to plan the demand for all the 3 plants in weekly buckets. So I need to refer to 3 different calendars in single planning area. Is this possible in DP ? As far as I know, we can attach only one fiscal year variant to the planning area through storage bucket profile. Also in this case, the system do not refer to public holiday calendar there by assuming all day working except the weekly off.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sandeep

Thanks Sujay for immediate reply. The time bucket profile will just help me see the data in different buckets say Daily, weekly or monthly. However this still doesn't solve my problem. As only 1 Fiscal Year Variant is attached to the storage bucket profile, the system still will read the same profile for all the plants & will assume the same weekly off for all the plants which is not true in reality.
Any other suggestion for considering different weekly offs for different plants in the same planning area ?
Thanks & Regards

• MRP exception message 64 and planning strategy group 52

Hi Gurus,
I have done extensive search online in the forum to find the route cause why we are getting MRP exception message 64 for a specific material in one of our plants. This exception message does not occur for the same materials which is also produced in another plant.
I was just wondering whether the planning strategy group of 52 in MRP 3 view would have any effect on the frequent occurrence of exception message 64. I know that the 64 message occurs when the routing time is higher than the in house production time. If that's the case where to look for in routing to correct this, apart from this do we need to look at work centers and other details. I'm not a PP person but still was curious to know see if i could take a shot at it.
Also the MRP settings that we follow in the plant where this problem does not occur is NETCH, Create PR - 2, Schedule lines - 3, create MRP list - 1, Planning mode - 3, scheduling -2
in the plant where the 64 message occurs quite often is Netch, Create PR -2, Schedule lines - 3, create MRP list - 1, planning mode - 1, Schdeduliing - 1
I was thinking do MRP settings and planning strategy group would have any impact on why we are getting the 64 wexception message
Because of this 63 exception message, the downstream components are getting wrong signals.
Thanks
Ravi

Hello Ravi
Generallt, exception message "64 - Production finish after order finish" is triggered when the order start date is in the past and system automatically changes to forward scheduling to calculate the finish date.
Note 1913017 explains how the order basic date is calculated and adjusted in case of forward scheduling, however, you are using strategy 52 and this is a very special scenario, whever VP planned orders are generated.
The VP planned orders will always be adjusted to the requirements date even if the requirements date is in the past. This is a special feature in the planning segment, since these orders are only kind of 'virtual' planned orders. These orders only have to provide the demand requirements for the components in time.
Therefore, there is a relationship between strategy 52 (VP planned order) and the exception message observed.

• Planning Strategy

Hi all
i am pretty confusion about decide the planning strategy.
here my client requirment is construction project and they have their own plant to full fill their requirments.process flow is like this
get requirments from different projects
Project Plann dept will raise the indent to commercial dept(purchasing)
procure raw material and they will send to storage location
production will run MRP and create pln order
then execution of production
issue of finished Goods (Hot Mix and WetMix) to projects
reconcilation of rawmaterial consumption to tht project.
can any one tell which strategy will suits my client requirment

Hi there,
you can use strategy 40 Planninh with planning with final assembly....

• Availability check of sales order in planning strategy 40

Dear friends,
Kindly help me this query:
From online SAP help in Demand Management, it said in planning strategy 40:
"An accurate availability check is performed according to ATP (available to promise) logic during sales order processing. The system checks whether sufficient planned independent requirements have been planned to cover the sales order.... If there is insufficient coverage of components (the sales order quantities exceed the planned independent requirement quantities), the sales orders cannot be confirmed"
According to above paragraph, I think that availability check of sales order is carried out against PIR, if PIR quantity cannot cover sales order quantity then order will not be confirmed, it also means stock on-hand will not be included in availability check. However, my testing reveal a different conclusion: sales order is confirmed against stock on-hand, not PIR. My questions are:
1/ in planning strategy 40, how does system carry out availability check for sales order?
2/ how to interpret above help from SAP?
I got that help from this link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/cb/7f9b7043b711d189410000e829fbbd/frameset.htm
Many thanks for your clear answers.
Regards,
Duc.

Dear duc pb ,
In 40 its only ATP that works.
you can do another test ,
Create PIR 15 quantity.
Create a stock of 10 quantity.
and now create a sales order firszt of quantity 30, as both of the above after combining cant fullfill this demand, save order run MRP.
system will create orders against PIR (15) and remainibnbg quantity of sales order (5)
run one more test, by creating PIR 15 quantity , no stock and a sales order of with quantity 10.
share your findings.
Thanks

• Problems in planning strategy 20

Hi Experts,
My scenario is I am using Planning strategy 20 (Make To Order).
In Planning strategy 20, Purchase requisition & Planned Order is generated after MRP for RM, SFG & FG respectively.
But the problem is that RM is already in stock & I dont want Purchase requisition for Raw material after MRP run & system should consider this stock against the Sales order.
If I will get this solution, my query will resolve.
Please help me as my client is demanding.
Waiting for your reply
Thanks & Regards,
Uttam Pal

If you want plant stock to be considered for RM, then maintain Indiv/Coll indicator as 2. Then the demand & supply will be plant segment.
But if you want the demand for the RM to be in sales order segment & yet net off against plant stock, it will not happen. You will have to transfer the plant stock to sales order stock, then system will net supply & demand.
Hope the above clarifies.

• Planning strategy grp in MTO

Hello All,
We have a pure make to order scenario (Stgy grp 20). In one of the orders, the material master creation group forgot to enter the stgy grp in MRP 3 (It is actually left blank). Also, the sales order for that particular material is created and MRP run taken.
To my surprise, i found that planned orders are still getting generated and are still percolating down to the bottom most level even after not defining the planning strategy group in material master of FERT. How is the planned order getting generated due to presence of a sales order even without the stgy. group? I believe it should not have got generated.
Need ur help..Am i going wrong somewhere?
Thanking you in anticipation,

During sale order creation system will check the schedule line category first ( based on MRP type system will pick the schedule line category) if the schedule line category has CP ( relevant to MRP), system will set theis sale order as relevant to MRP.
and then system will check the stratergy group in material master, based on this requirement type for customer requiremnt is picked, during MRP, system will behave based on requiremnt type.
if the stratergy group is not mainatined in material master then only system will check for MRP group for stratergy type and find the requiremnt type.
If the stratergy group is not find in material master and MRP group, system will trigger MRP for sale order with schedle line category .
In schedule catergory config( V0V6) you can fid the requiremnt transfer tick), this setting will trigger the requiremnt to MRP eventhough stratergy group is not maintained, if stratergy group is mainatained, system will behave based on stratergy group( reuirement type.

• Planning Strategy 63

Hello All
In my current scenario am using planning strategy 63 (Planning with planning material & without MTO), am having planning material X-PL with its variant materials X-1 & X-2, BOM of X-PL is having a component X1-C which is common to planning material and its variant materials. Am creating PIR for X-PL and running MRP, with that am procuring X1-C(common component) internally. When i enter sales order for X-1 system consumes PIR of X-PL which is all OK, & when i run MRP for X-1 system creates planned order for X-1 and also for X1-C, here i am having issue becaue system shall create Planned order & purchase requisition for all the components of X-1 leaving the component X1-C because it is already procured & is in the stock because of the planning of X-PL. Looking forward to your positive & prompt response. Shall be thankful for your valuable guidance & inputs.

Hello All
Thanks to you all for your valuable support & inputs regarding this issue, my issue has been resolved, SAP service gave me the reply to this query & that too their development team.
When i enter sales order for X-1 system consumes PIR of X-PL which is all OK, & when i run MRP for X-1 system creates planned order for X-1 and also for X1-C, here i am having issue becaue system shall create Planned order & purchase requisition for all the components of X-1 leaving the component X1-C because it is already procured & is in the stock because of the planning of X-PL.+ In planning strategy 63 the system doesnt take into account avaialbility check which we define in MRP view.+
At this point as the sytem was supposed to switch the dependent requirement of X1-C from planning material X-PL to dependent requirement of X1-C from variant product X-1, but it doesnt work like that. We have to run MRP again of Planning material X-PL, & its result is that the dependent requirement of X1-C from planning material X-PL is switched to dependent requirement of X1-C from variant product X-1, moreover the planned order(type VP) of planning material X-PL is also reduced/consumed in proportion to the quantity of sales order of variant product X-1, after we re run the MRP for planning material X-PL.
Hope this shall clarify many doubts about this strategy, & i think many of us shall be using this strategy now as per the client requirement.
At last thanks to you all for your valuable support & inputs. Shall look forward to the same support & guidance which i get from you people, this issue of mine is now resolved & am sure that this shall help many of us now.

• Planning Strategy for make to order!

Dear Gurus!
My client has Scenario like this:
By period they has customer forecast. 1 fininish good may be ordered by many customer.
Base on this customer forecast, they will buy raw material seprately follow 1 customer (customer want to make sure material buy on time, and they have staff in my client to follow).
When real sale order come, it will consump forecast (finish good and raw material) by itself.
IF my client wants to use this raw material for add-hoc case. They must be accepted by customer and buy to full fill.
Do you have any configure or busness process or whatever solution, please advise me.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Tony

Hi Tony,
Strategy 50 is for the MTO scenario wherein you do the production specific to the customer, in general words, you cannot swap sales order stock. So you can use strategy 50, as you are saying that it is customer oriented, and definitely customers are going to give orders.
I think are you saying that the raw material for the finished product which the customers of your client are needing can also be used by your own client, right.
Strategy 50 is planning without final assembly so here you can plan for the components for the final assembly without assembling and when the sales order comes then it can consume the PIR (planned independent requirement). So the production is done for the components till the finished product level and kept in stock, then when the sales order comes into picture then this slaes order can consume the PIR.
"IF my client wants to use this raw material for add-hoc case. They must be accepted by customer and buy to full fill." what did you meant by this line ? Please elaborate on this....

• Reg:planning strategy

Hi,
what would be the Planning strategy if we have both make-to-order and make-to stock scenario for the same finished product
Regards,
Raj

HI
Normally Str 40 works in the both ways, but its still a Make to Stock stratergy which also considers SO.
but this does not behave as a pure MTO as you would not get the SO reference in production order.
If you want it that way, one option would be to combine these stargtergies 10 & 20 in a Zstartergy group
& assign it to the material. Latter when creating the SO for the line item you the option of selecting
the requirement type, & based on this the Production order would be created as MTS or MTO order.
Hope this helps.
