Different staff styles, same region

Is this possible? For example, in the same region bars 1- 8 would be piano style, then 9-16 would be treble clef only?

a track can have as many different regions on it all with their own settings. when you come to print the part from those regions it will appear as one long part. in fact, this is the best way to use the score feature because it makes it easy to have just a small section of the score have certain properties, for example, a polyphonic part with rests, within a part that is not normally polyphonic.
all you have to do is cut the region where you want the different score style to begin and end, and then simply assign it. when you come to print the whole part it will look the way it should.

  • Assigning Staff Styles

    I'm still having problems trying to assign separate staff styles to individual regions from the same track. The book says:
    +To assign a staff style (predefined or user-created) to a MIDI region:+
    +1 Select the MIDI region.+
    +2 Choose the desired staff style from the Style parameter pop-up menu in the Display+
    +Parameter box.+
    However, when I do this, beginning with the first region in the track (there are 3), all three regions take on the most recent staff assignment. I've made two duplicate styles of "lead sheet," and I select my first region, then select the staff style I want for it (lead sheet), then select the second region and select the staff style I want for it (lead sheet2) and when I do, the first region no longer maintains the "lead sheet" designation, rather it also becomes "lead sheet2." it is possible to assign different staff styles to separate regions in the same track correct?

    Got it. THANK YOU. I was hung up thinking that the staff styles would be the same in both the arrange and score track parameter windows, but they are not linked. So...you can only choose one staff style for an entire track in the arrange, but if you highlight regions, you can break up the staff styles in score huh? The arrange then just gets the basic staff range of the part you are recording, and the score does all the non-destructive editing for what's printed. Also, now that the styles are set, I was able to create the space (you helped me out with this on a previous post) between the staffs in score, not only through space above and below the staff, but by grabbing and dragging the staff region in score.
    Oh happy day...what next

  • Multiple Split Points in Staff Styles

    I have just recorded a piano solo with my m-audio keystation in Logic. However some of the notes I need in the bass clef are stuck in the treble clef (and vice versa). I know you can set a split point in staff styles, but I need to make the split point change throughout the piece.
    What's the best way to go about doing this?

    Hmm you really should read the manual about all this.
    Ok:
    Select the region you've cut - open the Score editor in the bottom window of your Arrange - in the Inspector at the upper left of your Arrange you can choose the staff styles for each region - click on the little downwards arrow of e.g. Instrument 1->style->choose a staff style - then change to page view and you will see your score without breaks/new clefs. I ususally setup a screenset with the Score editor in page view and another Screenset with the Arrange page and the Score editor opened at the bottom.
    You can also open your staff style editor with a Keycommand - the same counts for the Instrument set editor. Once you've understood this principle you'll find faster ways of editing your score - open the Score editor at the bottom and just click into the different bars - the corresponding regions in the Arrange will get selected and you can quickly change staff styles.
    Here is a screenset showing you where to choose the different staff styles:
    to change to page view click on the symbol on the far right next to Midi out - it turns blue when activated:

  • Piano 1 2/3 staff style displays as 3 staves

    Hello. I hope someone can offer some advice on this. I have a piano part which is mostly displayed ok with staff style Piano 1/3, so channel 1 is on the treble staff and channel 3 is on the bass staff. There are a couple of bars where I want to show a 2nd voice on the top staff. I've used the scissors tool to make those bars a seperate midi region so that they can have a different staff style, but whenever I apply the built in Piano 1+2/3 staff style to just that region it forces it to display as three staves, one per voice, as shown here. I've included the staff style editor window too, because from what I can tell from the documentation it's setup correctly but perhaps somone out there can tell me what's wrong. Thanks in advance.

  • Staff Styles

    Working on some piano music. Everything was OK and then one section for some unknown reason came up as a single staff in Bass cleff, so the high notes have as many as 15 leger lines. I went to staff styles and clicked on "Piano", but nothing changes.

    guys .. if you want some clarity you need to describe more accurately exactly what your steps are because the questions ( to us "Score Editor Experts Willing to Help" do not yet make sense.
    1 - I clicked on a region and open Score Editor
    2 - Make sure the Region is selected and then try experimenting with a few different staff styles to see if the Region changes
    3 - Open the Layout>Staff Styles and see what values are placed in the different boxes
    Also specify in your signature what gear you are using and what version of Logic

  • Multiple Views of same Universe with DIFFERENT rendering style, possible?

    I am trying to create a CAD-style application that uses several views to display the objects directly from the front, the side and the top using parallel projection and another view that shows the same objects from a freely moveable camera using perspective projection. Everything is working so far, but I would like to display the objects as wire frame in the parallel projection views and fully textured in the perspective view. I have found options to change the rendering of a shape, but that would change it for all views. Is there a way to set different rendering "styles" (i.e. vertex only, wireframe, flat, shaded, textures) for different views of the same universe?

    hi
    i've tried to do that some time ago and i had to give up... unfortunately i think java3D can't use various rendering modes for the same universe

  • Problems Assigning Staff Styles to MIDI Regions

    Hi all,
    Newbie Logic Express User here - I've been stuck on something for the past two hours that probably has a really easy solution, but I can't find it anywhere.
    All I'm trying to do is assign the #Drums staff style to a MIDI region in one of my tracks that will eventually contain - yep - drum notes.
    But I can't get any of the controls for "style" to change to that. If I try to do it from the Score window or its accompanying parts-and-other-stuff window on the left, it just goes back to "Piano" no matter what I select. If I try to change it in the parameters box when I select the MIDI region in the Arrange window, it stays stuck on "Auto" no matter what I select.
    Any idea what basic thing I'm missing here? It's driving me crazy! Maybe there's a setting somewhere that "unlocks" staff styles?
    Many thanks for even reading this.
    Shawn

    Please, please, not everybody at once.
    Anyway, the more I work with and read about Logic, the clearer it is that maybe I'm stuck in a Cakewalk way of thinking. Logic Express seems to be pretty good at figuring out what kind of staff style you want after you just record a few notes. So I figure I'll just do that from here on out.
    Still curious why I can't change the staff style myself, though. Oh well...

  • How do I change the midi staff style from piano (i.e. bass and treble clef) to a drum score?

    Is there a way to change the staff style in Logic Pro 9 from piano to drums?
    In the score window I have tried selecting layout then staff styles... then clicking the downward arrow next to piano and changing to drums (but there is no box to select apply changes), I then back out and it still displays and uses a piano score.
    Also is there some sort of setting I can apply so that Logic acts with some Logic... i.e. if I'm using a drum audio instrument then the score editor automatically changes to a drum score, similarily with bass and bass clef?

    If I understand you write, you are looking for remapping of the incoming MIDI messages.
    So your MIDI Drum Kit is connected to your Mac and sends MIDI messages
    A few question:
    What MIDI Note message is your drum kit sending when you hit the kick drum, or lets ask, what note "should" it send? Record a MIDI Region while playing your kick drum. Open the Piano Roll Editor and look up what MIDI note that is.
    Can you change the assignment on your Drum Kit, i.e. set what MIDI note is send by each drum kit peice?
    What MIDI Instrument are you using for the drums in GarageBand?
    Do you know what MIDI note is assigned to the Snare sound (D1 ?)
    A the end it is about matching the sending note (send from the kick drum) to the expected receiving note (assigned to the snare sound). Changin Cable wouldn't do anything. Either you have to change the receiving mapping (hard to do in GB), or change the sending not from the Kick Drum (should be possible).
    Hope that helps

  • Apply different font styles in single text frame

    hi all
    how can i apply different font styles in a single text frame using indesign script ?
    for example :
    "dasdnasndasndlasndnasdlasdasdas"
    may i know is it possible to do that and how to do that ?
    thanks

    You can set (as well as read) every single property of any text range with scripts. This is javascript; it assumes you text cursor is inside a frame with some text.
    * Setting some specific characters to a color:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.characters.itemByRange(5,10).fillColor = "Red";
    * Change the font of words:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.words[3].appliedFont = "Arial\tBold";
    * .. or just the style:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.lines[2].fontStyle = "Italic";
    * .. or any other attribute (this one requires you to have at least 5 characters selected):
    app.selection[0].characters[5].underline = true;
    Of course these operations are not limited to something you select; they work the same with any text frames you can refer to.
    app.activeDocument.textFrames[1].paragraphs[2].appliedCharacterStyle = "charstyle";

  • Two different TOC styles in one Pages document?

    I'm a new Pages 2.0.2 user with a large document with two different tables of contents 20 pages apart. I'm trying to format them differently using different TOC styles but when I change one's style the other one changes as well. Anything I do format-wise to one goes over to the other as well. I'm hoping this is just something I have yet to learn about the product. Any thoughts?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1GB Memory

    Hi
    Someone else might know but this doesn't look good, taken from Pages Help:
    "Changing the appearance of text in a table of contents
    You can change the appearance of text in a table of contents and also add a leader line between a TOC heading and its associated page number.
    To change the appearance of text in a table of contents:
    Select the TOC heading you want to change. When you select a TOC heading, all the entries of the same heading type are automatically selected; headings cannot be individually selected.
    Click View in the toolbar, and then choose Show Styles Drawer.
    The Styles drawer displays a list of table of contents (TOC) styles. The TOC style that corresponds to the selected entry type is also selected.
    Do one or more of the following:
    To change the appearance of text, change it as you would format any paragraph text. For example, choose Format > Font or use the Text Inspector to make edits.
    To create leader lines from a TOC heading to its associated page number, click Inspector in the toolbar, click the Text Inspector button, and then click Tabs. Click the value for the TOC in the Tab Stops list, and then choose a line style from the Leader pop-up menu."

  • Different links styles in body and footer?

    Hello,
    I want to set different links style for hyperlinks in footer than they are in body of the site.  Is this even posible?
    The problem is that body background is white, and footer background is dark brown. So there is no way that I can use the same links styles.
    I know that there is "workaround" with linking text frames, but this is not what I want.

  • Help: apply different para styles to several consecutive paragraphs via script

    Hi all,
    I need to apply different para styles to several consecutive paragraphs via script, something like this (found somewhere on the net):
    var myDoc = app.documents[0];
    var mySel = app.selection[0];
    var myPStyle1 = "A";
    var myPStyle2 = "B";
    //need to add 6 more styles here:
    //var myPStyle3 = "C";
    //var myPStyle4 = "D";
    //var myPStyle5 = "E";
    //var myPStyle6 = "F";
    //var myPStyle7 = "G";
    //var myPStyle8 = "H";
    //the last style not needed in script?
    // apply 1st style to 1st paragraph
    mySel.appliedParagraphStyle = myDoc.paragraphStyles.item (myPStyle1);
    // apply styles to paragraphs after selected
    //2nd style
    mySel.paragraphs[-1].insertionPoints[-1].appliedParagraphStyle = myDoc.paragraphStyles.item (myPStyle2);
    //next style
    mySel.paragraphs[-1].insertionPoints[-1].paragraphs[0].insertionPoints[-1].appliedParagrap hStyle = myDoc.paragraphStyles.item (myPStyle2).nextStyle;
    I've tried badly, but can't find the way to extend the sequence
    Sorry, no skills in scripting yet...
    all styles have 'Next Style' option activated, but I can't use 'Apply style, then Next style' or Object styles, because I need four different sequences of those para styles:
    A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H
    A-B-D-E-G-H
    A-C-D-F-G-H
    A-D-G-H
    and I really don't want to create special clones of the same style for each sequence (Keep It Simple, they say ).
    I believe it can be done via four slightly adjusted scripts...
    any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

    Sorry about being late to the party, I usually pick up stuff like this right away.
    How about this one?
    1. No separate scripts needed, it uses a tiny dialog where you can choose what style set to use. If I'm correct, you can press a number key on Windows to immediately select one of the items.
    2. It works down from the paragraph your cursor is in. It has nothing to do with text frames, though -- consecutive paragraphs inside a story always ignore any text frames.
    3. Extensible: you can easily change the names of the styles in the top array, and the number of style groups in the list.
    var styleLists = [
              [ "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G", "H" ],
              [ "A", "B", "D", "E", "G", "H" ],
              [ "A", "C", "D", "F", "G", "H" ],
              [ "A", "D", "G", "H" ]
    var radiobutts = [];
    styleDialog = app.dialogs.add ({name:"Set Multiple Styles",canCancel:true});
    with (styleDialog)
              with (dialogColumns.add())
                        with (radiobuttonGroups.add())
                                  for (i=0; i<styleLists.length; i++)
                                            // Build radio button string
                                            str = "&"+String (i+1)+". ";
                                            for (j=0; j<styleLists[i].length; j++)
                                                      if (j) str += "-";
                                                      str += styleLists[i][j];
                                            radiobutts.push (radiobuttonControls.add({staticLabel:str, checkedState:false}) );
    radiobutts[0].checkedState = true;
    if (styleDialog.show())
              for (i=0; i<radiobutts.length; i++)
                        if (radiobutts[i].checkedState == true)
                                  break;
              if (i < radiobutts.length)
                        par = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0];
                        for (j=0; j<styleLists[i].length; j++)
                                  par.appliedParagraphStyle = styleLists[i][j];
                                  par = par.parentStory.paragraphs.nextItem(par);

  • Trouble with Slurs when Changing the Staff Style

    Hello,
    I'm exploring the LP8 score editor and find that it is VERY impressive!
    My goal is to use Logic for everything, instead of having to dole out the score duties to Sibelius or Finale. After reading the manual, I've found that LP8 is designed for just that! With the display quantization settings and the other "tips" that it offered, the manual showed me that LP8's score editor is formidable indeed!
    One issue (and maybe I missed this in the manual) that I'm having is changing the staff style for my parts. The manual says that this is an ideal way to print parts because you can change the key, transposition, etc. Writing for full orchestra, this seems (forgive the unintended pun) "Logical."
    This issue I'm having is that my slurs do not move with my notes when I change the staff style. For example: let's say I have a theme in a MIDI region that is using the "treble" staff style. I have dynamics and slurs everywhere. Then I want to give this to an Alto Sax so I select the MIDI region and change the staff style to "Alto Sax." While the key signature and the notes change in a very "correct" looking way. The slurs I put in remain in their original locations. This is a bit discouraging because it means a lot of work to fix them before I can print the part out.
    I've tried "selecting equal" events in the edit drop down menu. This almost works, but it does not discriminate between slurs up and slurs down.
    If someone could please let me know what they do with slurs in general, and especially what they do when creating parts with them that would be great.
    Thanks in advance!

    I'm a HUGE advocate of Logic's score editor, but depending on the type of music you're writing you'll find that there are certain things that it just can't do. To this effect, there may be times when it will just be easier to send your music to a Finale/Sibelius copyist to put the finishing touches on your score/parts, i.e., those things that you must have in your score but which Logic can't do, such as wavy-line glissando markings for harp parts, tram marks (for separating systems on a conductor's score), alternative pedal markings for piano, etc. (up/down marks), and others.
    Should you ever get to that point, check out a program called PDFtoMusicPro. It will take a PDF file from Logic and translate it into an XML file that can be read by Finale, etc., including slurs, key signatures, dynamic markings, etc. It's pretty fantastic!
    This issue I'm having is that my slurs do not move with my notes when I change the staff style... \[snip]
    Yup, it's a problem. The best approach is to use the transposing staff styles and do your markup on them. Of course, if you're preparing a C score then none of that matters.
