I am trying to transfer my Itunes library from my old computer to my new computer, why is this such a difficult task?

I am trying to get my new computer up and running. When I tried to transfer my itunes library to the itunes on the new computer, I lost most of the music. Anyone have a easy way to make the transfer?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.

Unfortunately it uses the single term "transferring library" for two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration) and relocating media+database (really your whole "library"). Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Is updating from Robohelp X5.0.2 to latest version a difficult task?

I realize this is a pretty subjective question, but for someone who is fairly comfortable using version X5.0.2, would it take a day, or a week, or possible a couple months to update a project that contains three chm files, with hundreds of htm files? Do you have any good resources to recommend for updating from X5.0.2 to the latest?

If the merged CHM is failing the search I'd be hesitant to say that upgrading will fix that. Hmmm, actually it may fix it as it will likely re-register all the components. Probably one of the DLLs associated with the CHM viewer has become unregistered or corrupt or whatnot. You may wish to download a free diagnostics tool to investigate that.

As for editing a CHM using Word? Unless you created the CHM file using Word and you have the Word source file handy, it's not going to happen easily.
A CHM file is composed of several other files. Lots of individual HTM files and other files. You are able to decompile a CHM, edit the HTM files and re-compile it (after you re-create the HHP) but you are better off using a Help authoring tool such as RoboHelp for that. I'd avoid mixing Word and HTML output unless you are just so addicted to Word that it's like crack to you.

Recharging Skype is a very difficult task

Tried to recharge my Skype account but the experience was so irretating. I don't know why it keep on redirecting me to the Taiwan site whenever I press the recharge button. It is stupid, they keep on asking my Taiwan phone no. and ID no. I am not staying in Taiwan nor a Taiwanese. It is really stupid

Need to fix Error 1009 for very simple task!

Hi to all,
I'm learning AS3 for the first time so that I can make a game, but I'm stuck on the most basic of tasks!
What I want to do is be able to click on a button to take me to the next frame of the main timeline, which I've called "gameboard". The button is called "storymode".
In the first frame of the main timeline, I have a movie clip that runs a short animation before the menu appears. My button that I want to click on is nested in this movie clip.
This is the code I'm using on frame 95 of the movie clip (exactly where the button appears):

...but it just gives me Error 1009 every time and won't work!
I've read a few other forums for help on this error already and tried a few potential solutions, but nothing works - so I'm asking my own question! Also, I ran the debugging tool in Flash, and it tells me the error is specifically on Line 3 (beginning with the word 'storymode'). I've made sure that everything has a name, and double and triple-checked that I'm referring to the right names in the right places, so "storymode" does indeed refer to my button!
One cause I read about was that the button may not have been loaded yet, but I've made sure that the code is on the same frame as the button. It appears in the exported file and changes colour when hovered over like a functional button, so it's definitely loaded! It just doesn't work when clicked! What could the problem be?!
I am utterly bewildered by this and desperately need help, otherwise I will never be able to progress to more difficult tasks!

Kglad, I did as you suggested, and that gives me not only another error (1120: Access of undefined property titlemenu (that's the name of the movieclip)), but it also negates all the "stop" commands I've put in the timeline actions, resulting in the export flickering uncontrollably between the first and second frames on the main timeline.
I had this problem before I had the 1009 error, and managed to fix it on my own. Back then, it was Error 1061, and was caused by me using the wrong target in my code. I had:
this.parent.gotoAndStop("gameboard")
instead of
evt.target.parent.gotoAndStop("gameboard")
...and changing it to the latter fixed Error 1061. However, this error 1120 causes the same problem again, so it's a targeting issue I'm not very willing to change, I think.
I've tried about a dozen different targeting options as well, and none of them solve Error 1009.

How can i preview and change the pre-existing ringtones on the Blackberry? I just got this phone a day ago and i'm quite confused. The user manual says nothing about it. I'm not interested in paying for ringtones when there are plenty that already come with the phone. I've done all the so called difficult tasks such as set up email addresses but i cannot for the life of me figure out how i can change the ringtone. I don't mean assign a specific ring to one person but for all calls, in general. If i could just listen to what the tone sounds like.. how do i do it? Also, how do i assign an alert tone to notify me of a newly recieved text or email message? I appreciate any pointers or suggestions. Many thanks.

Sharing one iTunes library across multiple accounts on the same Mac

Hello, I've poked around at some of the posts dealing with sharing one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac but it seems like this can only be done if the libary is moved to a shared folder. I realize this can be done but I was trying to share it the way it is described in a post on Apple support (See link below.). That post seemed to imply that you don't have to move the library from its original location (owned by account A, e.g.), rather just make a couple preference changes in the accounts, use fast user switching and voila. That doesn't seem to work. So my question is this: Is the only way to share one iTunes music library across multiple accounts on the same Mac to move it to a shared folder? I'm running 10.4.8 on an Intel iMac. Thanks in advance!

After reading this and several other related threads, I am becoming thoroughly confused about all of this. I have a situation similar to the one that pokerpal described in the post dated January 7 at 8:06 pm, except that the music files on my system are located on an external hard drive. Everything else is pretty much the same though - I am the admin user (and the main iTunes user and maintainer) and my girlfriend is a standard user who has no music in her own iTunes library. She can see and listen to and make playlists from and sync her iPod with the music in this library from her account, and I can do the same thing, independent of her, from my account. And if I make a change to information within a song, she doesn't see it, and vice versa, and I understand that. What I don't understand is why when I add a song or an album to the music files by importing a CD or downloading something from the iTunes Music Store, she has no way of knowing that unless I tell her, and then she can add it to her library by using the "Add to Library" function. Is there no way of automatically updating her library files to add the new song(s)? We have almost 15,000 songs and videos in that library, and I don't even want to think about what might have to happen if the answer to my question is "no." Interestingly enough, if I put an update to a Word document in the same exact location (on the hard drive), we can update that and pass it back and forth all day - why is that such a difficult task for iTunes to accomplish?
Sorry I went on so long, but this has been building up for some time, and none of the solutions I've read about here have really been of any help, so I'm a bit frustrated and, as I said at the beginning, confused.

Hi, Im not a frequent forum poster, as most of my questions can be found already answered on them!
This is a question Ive had for a long time and it amazes me that no-one else seems to ask it. I check at each OS upgrade but its never there...
Is there any way of dragging and dropping an iCal event showing in week view across to a date in the left sidebar monthly calendar?
I was able to do this years ago in MS Outlook, and utilized it all the time when I needed to push things back, now I have to open the event and select an new date in the drop-down calendar for each & every event I want to move to a new month at the end of the month.
If its definitely not possible, how to you ask apple to consider including it - it doesnt seem like a particularly difficult task.

No, but you can use cut/paste. Cut (⌘X) the event, then click on the week where you want to move the event, and Paste (⌘V).
If you have a suggestion for Apple to change that method use: Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback.

Issue with running QuickTime Windows. Buffer Overrun Error - C++ Library .

Initial problem was Buffer Overrun Error (C++ Library) when clicking on QuickTime after installation. IE. QT would not even open. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831875#appliesto
I took these steps:
1. Tried to uninstall QuickTime by itself (it failed).
2.
3. Manually deleted apple, itunes and quicktime from the entire system (where ever it let me).
4.
5. Manually took out from the registration the apple stuff.
6.
7. Left the items in the recycle bin (in case there were any real issues and I needed something restored).
8.
9. Performed a registration cure (RegCure).
10.
11. Took off my entire Anti Virus.
12.
13. Dropped down separately the QuickTime and separately the iTunes on desktop.
14.
15. Tried to install QuickTime from one of the two saved files on my desktop, but encountered a serious fault
16.
17. It needed the QuickTime Installer to remove QuickTime itself, else it crapped out and nothing happened. This complained for a QuickTime.msi file which was a problem.
18.
19. Went to the recycle bin and restored only components which were marked QuickTime Installer.
Removed the QuickTime instead of Repair.
Went to the website and Installed QuickTime 7 directly.
It opened on the desktop after installation.
Installed iTunes separately from the desktop and it opened directly.
Rebooted my pc.
Enabled all my Security (McAFee).
Opened one by one the QuickTime and Then the iTunes.
Created a computer restore point with a narrative for the future.
This was a very difficult task and required a lot of steps. I am glad you helped me with the removing part. Its great to have everything working again on my pc.

I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. Matter of fact, it's the first time in years that I've run across this kind of 'problem' when using non-beta software from a major player. Too bad. This really reflects poorly on Apple's credibility.

Bridge CC and ACR unbearably slow

Upon researching the issue of a slow Bridge CC I realize I am not alone nor is this a new problem. The thread I read extensively is almost a year old. Despite paying for CC for about 9 months I still use CS6. I had hopes that the new 2014 CC would solve the bridge performance issues.
I am running a six-core system with 32 GB ram, an SSD for my OS and programs, an empty 1.5 TB drive dedicated to cache, on a win 7 - 64bit OS. Bridge CC and camera raw are so slow I can't use them. My only comparison is CS6 and using the same settings for both programs.
When opening bridge CC to the folder that was previously cached and loaded used it took ~51 seconds of "building criteria" before i could view the file types, ratings, and details in the filter box. In other words I do not see any information in the filters box for that time. I made sure that the thumbs were completely loaded into the cache before I closed Bridge CC and opened the program to the same folder. The same folder in Cs6 takes ~4 second to load..
I have performance issues in ACR too.
I batch edit in ACR like out lightroom counterparts do but Bridge CC Plus ACR are too slow to work with.
I selected the same 20 raw files in each case.
bridge CC camera raw 8.5 took 5 seconds of a watch icon to load the files into the camera raw dialog after hitting CTRL R
No edits or changes were made to the files.
when i click to the next image in the list (still in camera raw) it takes 0.5-1 second of the watch icon to load the next raw photo in the batch.
in CS6 I selected the same 20 unedited RAW files, CTRL R and they immediately load. I can switch from raw file to RAW file without any hiccup or delay. 5 seconds vs instant. I didn't build a six core system to wait for things to load.
not exactly scientific but that's the disparity I am seeing. Bridge CC is death to me. To make sure I wasn't crazy I clicked on a recent folder with only 80 raw files, 80 respective small jpgs and a couple video files (4.5 gigs of data). It took so long I freaked out that I had moved the files to a backup location instead of copying them. After 30 seconds I stopped counting, opened windows explorer, browsed the backup folder, copied the files and was about to paste them to what should have been the original location and then Bridge decided that it was ready to work. For that ~ 60-85 seconds there was no watch icon, no spinning circle or "building criteria". It just looked as if I was browsing an empty folder.
Any suggestions?

Well mister Chuck 'know it al', you can congratulate yourself. With just 2 posts in the past year and no points for helpful answers at al you come in hard and call one of the most helpful posters a troll.
This was the limit for both of us, we had to stand a lot, including no help from Adobe but a more crippled forum website after each major upgrade. No possibility to place FAQs, a lot of people screaming for help without taking the effort to look first for similar problems, almost never providing correct details, crucial for a mixed Mac/Windows forum.
We had to suffer a lot, getting in unpaid and just plain users like all other guests, only it did cost us a lot of spare time.
But now we can rest from this task because mister Chuck "know it al" has jumped in to the rescue.
I wish you good luck and pity your friends and family, it must be a difficult task to live with such a nice person.

Return/exchange declined

I tried to return a laptop and I was declined because I was told I returned to many items within a 90 day period. How pathetic is this? I buy laptops, tablets and desktops online usually open box to save money. Several of my purchases recently were open box that I bought online and when I went to pick them up, I noticed scratches on the screen and top side so I returned the laptops while I was still there.
With that being said, I purchased a new Dell 2 in 1 13.3 core i7 that is a nice computer but a little heavier then what I thought it would be. So I took it back to Best Buy to exchange it for a Macbook 13.3 and my return was declined because I had to many returns even though I just wanted to exchange it.
How pathetic is this? I buy laptops, tablets and desktop computers from Micro Center, Staples and Office Depot and I have never been declined on a return or exchange as long as its within the time frame of the return policy.
I can assure you I will never buy any electronics from Best Buy unless this issue is resolved.

Welcome to the forum! Picking out the right laptop can be quite a difficult task. I'm sorry to hear that the Dell 2-in-1 you purchased didn't live up to your expectations as it was heavier than you desired. I can imagine it may have been surprising to be denied the return of a product, especially if you were within the Return & Exchange Promise.

Won't let me log in to the app store or iTunes. tells me there is an unknown error.

yep it won't let me log in with my Apple ID and password. my apple ID works fine with icloud and logging into the apple support community. I reset my password to see if that helped. it didn't. I tried to empty the cache.db file from the appstore folder in my library. that didn't work. I tried restarting my mac. that didn't work. So I guess I'm pretty much screwed...
I've had this computer for only two weeks and I can safely say i'm not impressed with Lion OSX 10.7.2
There are a lot of weird kinks and issues. Also compatability issues with apps that have worked on macs for a long time.
1.One example is the SSH client Fugu which is just now releasing a preview of the version for lion users (the full version for lion is still not out yet). Why is it that Lion was released before the compatability issues with major third-party applications was addressed?
2. Another issue, VM fusion newest release with the newest update STILL doesn't provide migrate pc for Lion. only the parallel operating system service works.
3. I can't find any internal files with spotlight without bending over backwards. although after bending over backwards i still can't find anything. for example, I wanted to search for a .plist extension file. In the old days you could set your search preferences so that if you wanted to see hidden or sensitive computer system files you could set it to allow this. Same on Pcs. Now, you can't. You can set preferences in the system preferences to look for certain things in certain applications....but there is no way to simply search for files. You can't find application folders and look into those. Nothing. It's all hidden. heck, it took me over a week or so just to be able to find the Mac HD. that used to be on the desktop. not anymore.
4. Wanted to download the xcode developer tool from the appstore the other day. tried to do that and it lagged forever. didn't tell me at what percentage it was downloading. nothing. then I noticed how many GB it took in space and also the numerous one star reviews saying how the newest update had ruined the application and not to waste my time. Why can't we find archived versions of applications so that in case the most recent one is totally messed up, we could at least have the opportunity to go back to the old version?
5. logging into the appstore the first time it wouldn't even let me download a free app without putting in my credit card information. not exactly reassuring after hearing about all these credit card frauds going around that are found to be connected with appstore CC info.
I am seriously thinking that I should either go and get a copy of snow leopard or just return the computer entirely. I haven't been able to get any of my school work done because of all these weird problems. at first i thought it was because I haven't used a mac in over a year.....but now i'm thinking there are issues over at the apple software development team. I hope that apple will get their act together and release a major patch to fix the problems with Lion. They owe it to their faithful customers. please don't turn into another microsoft.

Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.

I have a 3g iPhone and when I open iTunes, there is no "Purchased" button. How can I get one?

I have some past purchases that show up on my "Purchased" list when I am on my computer (Windows Vista machine), but they do not appear in my Library - so I cannot simply drag the songs from Library to the iPhone when it is connected to the computer. Elsewhere on this site (specifically here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 ) I am told I can just open iTunes on my iPhone, click on the "Purchases" tab, tap the artist name, etc. to download to the iPhone. But without a "Purchase" tab (and I have checked in the "More" area to see if it is there), this is a pretty difficult task. (Also just as additional info, I am running iTunes 10.4.1.10 and have recently synced the iPhone.) Also my computer is the only "device" associated with the iTunes Cloud beta and, as an alternative (?), maybe I could figure out a way to "associate" the iPhone as well?

Warning -- Release Preview + T60p = Fail

General warning to those thinking about trying Windows 8, release preview, on a T60p. Not sure what they did with release preview, but it's simply awful. It doesn't recognize nearly any of the drivers for T60p hardware -- most notably the display adapter for the ATi FireGL V5250. Not only is the display resolution atrocious, but it's very, very slow: the mouse skips across the screen as if moving the mouse is a difficult task.
It should be noted that I installed the release preview onto my installation of Windows 8 "consumer preview" which I had previously installed months before. The earlier Windows 8 consumer preview actually worked quite well on the T60p, recognized the Windows 7 drivers I had for my hardware, and even permitted me to use all of my old programs that I was using in Windows 7.
After installing release preview onto my consumer preview, I simply could no longer use my system. After about a day of trying to troubleshoot all the driver problems, I decided to install Ubuntu 12.04, which began working flawlessly (driver-wise). However, because of some compatibility issues at work, my T60p is now back to running Windows XP.

It seems that some people are getting the Vista driver to work with the Windows 8 preview.
Lenovo won't provide support for Windows 8 until it's official release.
