Difficulty opening a php file in a browser

Hi thanks for your ideas in advance.
I am creating a new opening page (using html) for a php site.
I can't do it in php since i don't know a lick of it. The client
wants their current php site to remain intact while I add a new
html landing page to the site. They want to link from this new
opening page to the current site they have.
There is not the usual index.html file in the current root
folder. There is a file called index.php. When I open this with
Firefox it displays only code. So this is one problem - I don't
know how to link to a php page so it displays correctly.
Second question is how can I create an html page to stand as
an opener to this php site, without recoding the index.php? If I
must recode it - is that easy enough to do?
Thank you kindly!

You could rename the index.php file to something else like
index2.php,
search and hope you found all links to that file and changed
them, then
upload your new index.html file. But i don't have high hopes.
Make backup
copies of the site folder so the client isn't worse off.

  • Firefox downloads a ".php" file when I browse certain websites. I'm on a Mac and running OS X 10.6.4

Firefox is automatically downloading ".php" files when I browse certain websites.
Without permission, it just simply downloads the files and prompts me to indicate the program I would like to open the file with.
I work for a school district and Firefox 4 was installed in 4 other computers and it did the same thing with all of them.
I then reverted to the previous version of Firefox and continued to have the same problem.
    Please advise

Hold down the shift key when you launch an app in Lion to "discard previous windows".

These files open correctly when sent as doc files.

  • New to Dreamweaver. Can I open/ view .php files with this application?

Recently downloaded a file that had the extension; .php. Tried opening it on my desktop and couldn't. Was told the Dreamweaver software/ application from adobe could help. Please, educate me on what to do in order to view these files.

PHP files are all code.  You need a local testing server to view PHP files locally in your browser.   Dreamweaver can help you view the code, but you still need a local testing server to preview it.
Get one of these testing servers for you OS and install it.

  • Firefox keeps asking me to open/download PHP file when it used to be able to display properly.

I use to be able to view local PHP files normally in Firefox with the PHP parts not rendered while the HTML parts are. Now all it does is ask whether I want to open or save it.
I've tried editing FF options so that it previews in FF but it doesn't accept any changes. I've cleared my cache and all that. I've tried deleting the mimeTypes.rdf file thing but I can't even find the folder it's in. I've tried disabling/enabling "prompts.tab_modal.enabled" in about:config and restarting FF.
    All are no-go solutions.
Web PHP pages are loading properly, this problem only comes when I'm trying to load local PHP files. I don't want to install XAMPP or PHP on my computer just to view local files as I never had this problem before.
In the meantime, I've installed Chrome and it's loading a simple local PHP file just fine whereas FF is asking me to save/download when opening the SAME file. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yup, deleting mimeTypes.rdf and re-starting did the trick this time. Thanks very much!
Also, on a somewhat related note, I cannot view mozillazine.org and any sub-domains under it in any browsers. This may be happening to other users as well?
It's always stuck at "Waiting for ..." or "Connecting to ..." and that's it. Then FF gives up with a "Server connection time-out" notice. Clearing cache and all that doesn't work because I was trying to view those pages before starting this topic.

  • Why can't I open a PHP file as a web page in FF7? I could until I upgraded to 7 today.

I am a web designer and test sites on my local machine (3.06GHz 24" iMac with Mac OS 10.6.8). I open and preview all pages before uploading to my server. I have been doing this with Firefox for YEARS.
Today I foolishly "upgraded" to version 7 and now it is impossible to open any page with the .php file type. If I try, I get a dialog box asking if I want to save or open the file. If I select Open and choose Firefox as the default application, it just loops back to the same dialog box.
There has got to be a way around this since I was able to do it before upgrading.

  • Can't open a pdf file in my browser

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire One laptop running Windows 7 operating system and updated to Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3.1.  When I try to open a pdf file from a website, I receive an error messagesaying the Reader that is running cvan not be used to view files in a Web Brfowser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again. THis is the version I have.  Therefore I'm unable to open any pdfs from web sites.  I'm able to open pdf files I have on my computer, so I believe the Reader program works. Has anyone else experienced this?  Please provide a=ny recommendations.
    Thanks.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,

delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals

  • Inability to open a .pdf file in a browser.

For years, I have run Acrobat 6 standard.  My wife & I share the same desktop--she uses IE for her browser; I use Firefox.  Early this year we both began getting the following error message when trying to open a .pdf file from within our resepctive browsers, i.e., clicking a link to the .pdf file:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot be used to view .pdf files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your web browser and try again."
To the best of my knowledge, neither Acrobat nor Reader was running at the time (unless somehow it's going in a background that I couldn't find).  I thought perhaps it was a glitch from Acrobat 6, so I have upgraded to Acrobat 9 standard a week ago and to Reader 9.1 3 weeks ago.
The problem still occurs, although not consistently, and the only way around it that I've found is to right-click the link on the webpage and save it to the desktop, then double-click the icon and it opens.  That's a bit of a pain.
Has any one encountered this before?  Do you have a solution?

Adobe STRONGLY recommends that you DO NOT have Acrobat and Reader on the SAME system. Based on my experience, the presence of both products causes all sorts of unpredictable behavior.
If you need Acrobat to create and edit PDFs, then you do not need Reader at all to open PDF files in any browser. You should delete one program or the other and do a repair on the remaining product afterward. I also recommend that after deleting one product, you restart your system and then repair the other product. If either Acrobat OR Reader is installed on your system, then the browsers should load that product to read the PDF file.
    Good Luck.

  • I can't open a pdf file in a browser window. I have to save it before I can open it. Why can't I open the file without first having to save it?

Anytime that I click on a pdf file in a browser window, the file will not open automatically. I am forced to save it on my computer first and then access the file. When I click on it after it is saved locally, it opens as it should.

  • Excel 2013 (office 365) crashes every time I opened a excel file directly from Browser or zip file.

    Hi guys,
I got a problem with my Office 365 that every time I open an office file from IE/chrome browser (i.e. click the document link and save the file to local, open it in the browser after download completed) or under a zip file, no matter it is an excel file
or word document, the Excel/Word crashes. The Excel/Word will ask me to repair the file if I open the file again. The file will be closed automatically after the repair, when I open the file again it will told me the excel/word itself has just successfully
registered and ask me to close and re-open the excel again in order to enable editing the file. This is extremely inconvenience, I have to open this file 4 times to edit my file.
Could anyone here can help me to resolve the problem?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
According to your description, Excel seems not crash when you opened a local Excel/Word file directly. Where do you store these file? OneDrive, SharePoint or other?
If possible, please let me see the screenshot of the error dialog.
Moreover, please open Event Viewer to check whether there's any error about the Excel/Word crash issue.
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter. In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, there may be some errors after the crash.
To protect your privacy, you may send the error logs to
[email protected], we will try to find the cause.

  • Firefox 3.6.8 won't open local php files. It opens the save as text dialog box instead.

When I try to open a local php file on my MAC hard drive with FF 3.6.8, the save file dialog box opens instead. It says: You have chosen to open index.php which is a TextEdit.app Document. I do not have this problem with Firefox 3.5.11.
    I have tried:
opening the file directly from Firefox as well as
double clicking the file (which is the most common way).
I have also tried changing the file "open with" preference to "open with Firefox." That did not work either.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    I'm on a MAC OS 10.5.8
    Thnx, Nick

    You have to delete mimeTypes.rdf.
You can find it here (Windows XP): C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Aplication Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default.

  • Why does the scroll mouse freez when opening a pdf file in the browser?

  • I encountered a bit of difficulty opening a .Tif file which was saved in CS5?

This problem occured three times before the file finally did open in CS6.

I am using an hp laptop dv7t, it runs win 7 64bit and has an intel graphics co-processor.
The machine has a total of 6 gig of ram.
    The processor is an i5 cpu M460 @ 2.53GHz.
The fact that the system had difficulty opening the .tif  it has opened without further problems after re-boot several times.  I've opened approximately 50more .tif files without incident.

  • Design mode not available when creating or opening a php file - CS5

I am not sure if this is a bug or not.  When I create a new php file, it opens in code view.  The options to view in design or code and design mode are disabled.  If I reset the workspace, does not matter which workspace I am in at the time, then the file is displayed in code and design mode but the options to view in design or code and design are disabled.
If I select code view mode, the design view disappears (as expected) but there is no way to get to design or code and design without resetting the workspace.
Is this considered normal operation?  The help system does not hint that there is a restriction on view modes for a PHP file.
    Thanks
    Walter

    Hi Walter,
my DW opens always in that mode which I last worked in with a file and then closed DW. Did you already try this (tranlated from German DW):
Preferences> General> Open new document at startup.

  • Open Local HTML file in app browser?

    Hi,
We have a question, we would like to link to a local HTML file form within a DPS article, we need the HTML file to open up in the in-app browser; we cannot use a web content overlay for this particular feature. We are able to achieve this easily with content from an online source by creating a Go To URL link with the website in the URL section.
Can this be done form the HTML resource folder and can this be tested in the adobe content viewer?
Or even better can we easily link to a local folder using the Go TO URL with a local file path? If so what would this be?
    Thanks
    Daydream

Yes, you can open an HTML file in an in-app browser by adding the HTML file to the HTMLResources.zip. Create a button with a Go To URL action that looks something like this:
    HTMLResources/HTML_Local/index.html
Make sure that you create your HTMLResources.zip file properly and upload it to the folder. You can test this in the Adobe Content Viewer on either the iPad or the Desktop as long as you preview the folio (not the article or layout).
Basically, you use the same technique to link to the HTML file that you use to link to PDF files. For details, see the DPS Tips app > Advanced Overlays > Linking to PDF Files.
