Digital Signature crashes Acrobat 9 Pro

An error occurs when trying to Sign any PDF document, even when opening a very simple, one word (Times New Roman text only) PDF document. After opening the PDF in Acrobat Pro (WinXP Pro SP3), selecting Sign, Sign Document, Acrobat allows proper placement of the signature box, and accepts the password for the selected Signature ID. When <Sign> is then selected, Acrobat offers to save the document, and when the save location (any location) is selected, Acrobat returns the error below.
Adobe Acrobat 9.3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Error Signature
AppName: acrobat.exe AppVer: 9.3.2.163 ModName: acrobat.dll
ModVer: 9.3.2.163 Offset: 00135fb9
The same source PDF document can be modified, or password protected, and then saved without a problem. Only when a digital signature is applied does the error occur. Acrobat has successfully Signed and saved documents on this PC previously, but starting experiencing this error about week ago. I have uninstalled Acrobat, reinstalled ver. 9.0 and applied the two updates to 9.3.2, and have generated new Digital Signatures, all with the same resulting error when signing a document. The new, signed PDF document is actually created, and a Digital Signature is found in the document, but is invalid, reporting:
Error during signature verification.
Signature contains incorrect, unrecognized, corrupted or suspicious data.
Support Information: SigDict /Contents illegal data
I have tried the troubleshooting steps in http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403613.html, but without any progress; the error continues to remain. Any advice on how to resolve this will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi Mike,
After the Save As operation was done, did you see the signature appearance displayed in the signed signature field before you closed the doc? And if did see the signature appearance, did you happen to notice if there was a green check mark displayed in the blue message bar at the top of the file?
Thanks,
Steve

  • Cursive signature in Acrobat Pro X

    1. I need to create a cursive signature in Acrobat Pro X - is there a way to do this without having to upload another file?
    2. I created a digital ID but can't locate it with the browse function.

You'd normally create an image (or vector graphic) of your signature in some way and use it as the source for the signature appearance. Acrobat doesn't prompt you to hand-draw a signature and use it for an appearance.
To find the file, you can open launch the "Digital ID and Trusted Certificates Setting" dialog, locate the digital ID file in the list (Digital IDs > Digital ID Files), click "Certificate Details", Details tab, Certificate Data > Private Key <see details>
and it will show where the .pfx file is on your system.
I don't recall how to do the first step in Acrobat 10, but in 11 they changed it to: Edit > Preferences > Signatures > Identities & Trusted Certificates
and in Reader 10 it's under: Edit > Protection > Security Settings

  • Adding a digital Signature in Acrobat X Pro

A recent update seems to have altered the digital signature. Before there was no problem and I used the signature I created in Acrobat 9 after upgrading to X Pro. But yesterday (after the update) I was asked for a password for the first time. Eventually I deleted the ID and tried to create a new on but cannot. I follow the steps  - a new ID, then a new PKCS#12 file; I fil lin the details requested then on the next page it asks for a file location and password. I accept the default location and type in a password but after the enter I get a message that the passwords do not match.
How do I sole this or am I doing something wrong?

Do you enter the password twice? People have reported that the second password field isn't visible when using a low resolution screen.

  • Problems getting multiple digital signatures in Acrobat Reader form

I have a Word document that I converted to a form in Acrobat 9 Pro. I added two separate digital signature fields, one for a conference presenter and the other for the conference planner to sign. There are also a number of text fields where presenters give bio information. I saved the document using the Extend functionality so that a user who only has Acrobat Reader would be able to fill in the form, sign/save it, and then send it on to the conference planner. The first part is working fine. However, once the first user signs/saves the document, the extended functionality goes away. When the conference planner receives the document, it is essentially locked. She cannot sign and save.
Is what I'm trying to do possible? I feel like this would be fairly commonplace, but I may be going about it the wrong way. Thank you for any pointers.

    Hi Steve,
I have met similar problem. Using Adobe 9.4 I have prepared document with three signature fileds. I did signature in one of the field and then did extension to Reader. When I checked the propierties of document it occured that signing was not allowed. I couldn't sign it second time (not saying of Reader's user).
Is there missing any plug-in or something is wrong with a configuration (mentioned "Nothing has happened when signed" was set up)?

  • How to clear signature in acrobat pro dc

I want to clear a signature on a DC document form that I created. I used to be able to do so by right-clicking the signature field and choose "Clear Signature" but that option is not available.

    Hello Pete,
The "Clear Signature" option is available in Acrobat Pro DC as it was in Acrobat XI Pro.
You can clear a signature if you are the signer, that is, if the digital ID with which you did the signing is available to Acrobat.
I can think of two reasons that "Clear signature" might not be available:
    1. Your digital ID is not available to Acrobat Pro DC. That is, you have not yet imported it for use in Acrobat or don't have your smart card in the reader, etc.
    2. When you signed the PDF, you chose the option to "Lock Document After Signing".

  • Problem with digital signatures in Acrobat 8

Is it true that the ability to directly create a digital signature field is available in Acrobat 7 & 9 but not in 8?
I have Acrobat Standard 8.0.0 and want to create blank signature fields before I certify a document, but can't find a way to do this directly. I can add a signature then delete it to create a blank field, but this is a very slow way of doing it.
I have read Forum articles saying choose Tools > Forms > Digital Signature Tool to create a blank field, but I have no Forms item in my Tools menu. Am I missing something, or do I need to upgrade to Acrobat 9 (or downgrade to 7!)?

    Hi Brian,
It's not that version 8 per se cannot add a signature field, it's that you cannot create or edit form fields in the Standard version. If you had Acrobat 8 Professional, or you buy Acrobat 9 Pro, then you would have the capability to add and edit form fields (a signature fields is just a special purpose form field).

  • Add multiple signature boxes acrobat pro

How do I add a second signature box for an additional signer in Acrobat Pro?

Probably the best way is to go into form editing mode:
    Acrobat 11: Tools > Forms > Edit
select the digital signature field tool, and add as many digital signature fields as are needed.

  • Add image signature in Acrobat Pro DC

In the last version on Acrobat Pro, I would click "Fill & Sign" and then select my signature, which is a scan of my actual signature. Then, when closing the document, it would append "-signed" to the file name. How do I do that in DC??? So far I don't like the new version.

    Hi penserv,
In case if you want to  append "-signed" to the file name when saving you need to use the 'Certificates' tool.
Please open the PDF file on Acrobat Pro DC, Choose ' Certificates ' option from Tools, you will get a option at the top ' Digitally Sign ', please select it & draw a box by dragging the cursor on the file where you want to add the digital signature.
A pop up window will appear on your screen, please choose 'Sign as' -> 'New ID' option from the drop down, follow the prompts to create a digital signature.
Once the digital signature is created you can choose 'Appearance'  -> 'Create new Appearance' option on the same pop up window to add your Scanned Signature Image to the digital signature.
Now, when you will Save the PDF it will append "-signed" to the file name.
Let me know if it works for you. In case if you still need any help, please let us know. We will be more than happy to help you.

  • Signature in Acrobat Pro different from Reader

I have Acrobat Pro. When I click on "Place Signature", it forces me into a weird certificate, not the option to type my name like Acrobat Reader. I want to simply type my name.

What Acrobat/Reader allows depends on the document. For example, If the document has any of the following characteristics, you won't be allowed to e-sign, but you may be able to digitally sign:
    1. The document is Reader-enabled
    2. The document has any digital signature fields. This includes a certfied document.
    3. The document includes a button with a "Submit a form" action.
    4. Other things.
If you can provide a link to a sample that doesn't allow this, we could take a look and tell you the specific reason.

  • Acrobat 9,10 failing to validate digital signature while Acrobat 8 validating it.

I am facing an issue while validating a digital signature. I applied a certified signature with “Annotation, form fill-in, and digital signatures” but
when I apply Redaction “find and permanently remove” on a digitally signed document, Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10 complains that signature is Invalid But Adobe 8 is validating it. I have analyzed  that Adobe Acrobat applying Redaction in append mode and original content of signature  remains unchanged after Redaction.
Can someone let me know what should be the actual behavior?
Why Adobe Acrobat 9 and 10 failing to verify the signature even Adobe Acrobat keep enable Redaction which means it is allow to apply in a certified signed document with “Annotation, form fill-in, and digital signatures” option.
    Prompt responses are greatly appreciated!!

When you sign, you should see where you can select the signature appearance name from a dropdown in the dialog.

  • PubSec Digital signatures in Acrobat 9

    Hi,
i m developing a digital signature plug-in, PubSec, to be specific. My plugin will, hopefully, digitally sign open pdf, and also able to verify them. The signature i am creating will be standard so that any other plugin, including Acrobat's own, can also verify it, and my plugin can verify others too. For this, i will leave the Filter unset and only set subfilter appropriately.
Now, when implementing the signature creation and verification callbacks i found it very difficult, and in some cases am stuck, while getting required information from the provided arguments of the callbacks. For instance, from this structure "PSSigValidateDialogParams" i want to extract information such as:
    - signature's verification status
    - signer's certificate
    - reason location, etc.
But so far i can only get the verification status as:
    ASInt32 sigValDigest = ASCabGetInt( sigValCab,  PROP_SigVal_Digest,  kDSSigValUnknown   );
    ASInt32 sigValTrustFlags = ASCabGetInt( sigValCab,  PROP_SigVal_TrustFlags,  kDSSigValUnknown   );
    ASInt32 sigValId = ASCabGetInt( sigValCab,  PROP_SigVal_Id,  kDSSigValUnknown );
And i dont even completely understand what each of these mean. And i cannot get the rest of the info from the structure as well, as i cant find any discription about them in documentation. I did find a "Digital signature API Reference" document for acrobat 6, but none for acrobat 9. And even in acrobat 6, there is no description for most of the functions and structure, just the prototype.
Please help me get the above information from the PSSigValidateDialogParams, or atleast point me towards the documentation of the digital signature api reference for acrobat 9. Thanks

  • Multiple Digital Signatures in Acrobat 8.1

Hello to all,  I am trying to have two people place two (2) digital signatures  (using the method: Advance Menu Item | Sign & Certify | Place Signatures) on a PDF document.
There are no problems placing the first signature, but when the second person adds theirs, the first signature ends up having a yellow exlamation mark over the green check mark with the statement: "The revision of the documnet was covered by this signature has not been altered; however there have been subsequent changes to the doucment.".
I must have both signatures showing "green check marks", otherwise my document can be rejected when I submit it.  I have version 8.1 of Acrobat and need a solution fast as I need to submit this document tomorrow.
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I believe this behavior was changed in Acrobat 9.

  • Possible to place a signature in Acrobat Pro DC?

In previous versions of Acrobat, I could easily add my signature to a PDF that a colleague had already signed.  This was useful (required actually) for documents that needed multiple levels of sign-off. It seems as though this is no longer possible in Acrobat DC unless the original document has signature fields added from the start.  Is there any way around this?  Most of the forms that I need to sign in this manner are not under my control...changing them is not an option.

I presume you're using digital signatures. Are you saying that you cannot sign in Acrobat DC exactly the same PDF that you are able to sign in an earlier Acrobat version? This does not seem right.
Is it possible that PDF that you want to sign in DC is a new one which you never tried to sign before in an earlier Acrobat version? If this is the case then your PDF is mostly likely certified with permissions that prevent future signing, or it already contains a previous digital signature which is locked. In either case you cannot sign again in any Acrobat version (at least since Acrobat 7 or 8). When you print your PDF to PDF printer, you effectively remove all existing signatures (although their appearances may still be there), and that allows you to sign. Open the Signature Panel in your original PDF that you want to sign and inspect its existing signatures if it contains any (I think it does).

  • Can't create a digital signature with acrobat 8

We have acrobat 8.  My husband has a digital signature but when I try to electronically sign, his digital signature pops up and does not give me the option to create my own.  How can I create my own digital signature on this software?

I don't have Acrobat 8, but in Acrobat 7 & 9 it's under "Advanced > Security Settings", which prings up a window where you can add a digital ID.

  • Advanced Index Search Crashes Acrobat Pro and Reader

I have a problem of which I've not been able to find a similar past experience. Acrobat Pro 9.5 and Reader X both crash on a Windows 7 PC whenever I initiate a search using our Adobe-created index files. These index files work for every other computer on our Network and all relevant users have the same permissions to access the indexes. I've trashed the preferences folder and even uninstalled and reinstalled both programs. The functions are not relegated to a particular user on the machine as the problem is the same across the board, so I've narrowed the problem down to being on the PC itself. I've not seen this as a known issue anywhere nor seen people write about this as a past issue. Any and all help appreciated, and thanks in advance!

    Bump. Y'know, for kids.
