Digitally Verified Signature Fields After Saving

I am using Acrobat 9. I am creating a PDF with a whole slew of editable fields. Once the PDF is done I need to be able to email it to several people who need to be able to fill it out and save it (so that they can upload it to a website for me). I have figured this part of it out thanks to someone else asking the same question. HOWEVER... when I save it as "Extend Form Fill-In and Save In Adobe Reader" and email it to my co-worker she is able to open the doc and edit the fields and save it... all except for the Verified Signature Fields, which are VERY important to this particular doc as it is a contract.
Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas? I'm in a pickle and needing to get this doc done very soon. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. I remember getting a prompt to add the password after certain actions so that is why I thought it could be the same with the printing if the option had not been disabled.
From my point of view, I set security options for others not to be able to modify/do certain actions on my doc, but I would expect I would continue being able to do so...this way securing a document is also limiting myself as the author of the document.
Of course the inconvenience prior to signing turns into impossibility when digitally signed as you say...
I can cope with an inconvenience as I understand the way it has been thought (similar to when you protect an excel sheet or anything similar) but I also think it would be useful to find an alternative solution seeing the constraints added when the doc is signed. Printing out a document does not modify the original document...so it should be allowed (of course, in order to ascertain its validity, the printed copy would need to be checked against the digitally signed one (similar to what we need to do if we copy a document in paper...it needs to be checked against the original or even get attested).
Thanks again!

• Can't  sign signature field after unlocking

We have encountered the following senerio(both in Reader and Professional 8.1 and above), even with all appropriate rights and privages applied the document.
Given a simple document with 2 fields, one a digital signature field and one a simple text field.
On initial form open the digital signature field is set read-only. After the user enteres any data into the text field, the digital signature field is set to open for signing.
With Reader/Professional 8.0 and previous, the user gets the digital signature wizard when they click on the signature field and is able to sign the document
With Reader/Professional 8.1.x the user is able to click into the digital signature field (mouse changes to the finger/field indicator shows blue) but the wizard does not appear. The user cannot sign the document until it is saved, closed and then re-opened.
code is as follows
text field name: text1
digital signature field name: sig1
text1 exit event: if (!this.isNull && this.rawValue != null) sig1.access = "open";
Does anyone know how to fix/work around this problem?

What you're describing is what happens when the form has not been Reader-enabled, or the extended features are no longer valid. It's hard to say what's wrong without seeing the same document that she's using. It's also possible that even though she says she has the latest version of Reader, that she's actually using something else to view the PDF, such as Preview on the Mac, the built-in PDF viewer with Firefox or Chrome, or something else.

Can we populate Charges field in Sales Order form after saving the sales Order automatically.
The charges to be calculated based on the amount entered and the item selected in Sales Order.
In the Manual process it is done by hitting the Actions Button and then select the Charges.
The charge type would be "Freight Costs"

by using process_order API, I am able to update the charges field.

• Multiple Signature Fields - Auto tab to next signature?

I'm working with documents that have more than one signature field. Is there a script I can use that will tell the document to automatically go to the next signature field and start signing after the first field is signed? I am fairly new to scripts in adobe. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It's for an agreement for one or two sellers to agree to sell an item. It requires their initials in 10 places and signature in about 4 or 5 . I'm using a Topaz digital signature pad for the signatures to be placed on there as digital signatures. Instead of manually clicking on each signature, i'd like to start a 'batch' signature process, so Seller 1 can sit down and sign and initial as needed and it automatically takes them to each one, and then seller 2 can do the same.
Yes, I realize that in essence what I'm really looking for are electronic signatures, not digital signatures, but the only method I've seen for this would be a custom stamp, and I don't know of a way to create one on the fly with their signature and place it where it needs to be on the document in a speedy manner. The process described in paragraph 1 seems to me to be the easiest and fastest way to get the sellers signatures onto the PDF. I would probably also script in some pop up dialog boxes for each signature, i.e., "Seller 1 Please Initial". and a submit button so the signed document can be emailed to the main office. However I can figure that out on my own, it's figuring out how to make it automatically pop up the next signature field after finish one that I'm not sure how to get done.

• Signature Scribble field not retaining image file after saving

I have 2 issues with my PDF dynamic file I sent out
         1) The add/remove controls is adding a random amount of extra blank rows upon saving the PDF
         2) The image files selected for the Signature Scribble field is not retaining the image file after saving. It also doesn't give an opportunity to actually draw in a signature.
I even tried to use the Subform Instance Controls Insert/Remove/Move in my table, but I keep receiving the error "You have reached the maximum number of items allowed"
I would appreciate any help you can give me! I have been farting around with this for too long.
Thanks!

Thanks Pat.  Tried each, restarted computer each time; tried the "Accept" routine several days ago - it worked briefly and then stopped.  Uninstalled Reader and Flash as well.  Strange thing with Flash, one of my online broker programs provides streaming of CNBC.  When I clicked on the CNBC option to initiate CNBC, I got a message saying that I needed to load Flash.  I did, and it loaded again with no mention of Flash having already been installed.
Using Internet Explorer works, as well as, clicking on the .pdf file within Windows Explorer (WE).  Expanding the window in WE makes it large enough to read.  I would still like to find a way to open the files as they are designed to open.
I have done all of the Adobe updates as they have been presented.  Microsoft updates load automatically, and restart my computer in the process.  I do not look to see what the updates have been.  I figure if there was not a need, Microsoft would not make the updates.

• Restrict certain fields after a digital signature

I am using Acrobat XI Pro.  I have added a digital signature field.  Then >properties>signed tab>mark as read only>just these fields.   When I click to select the fields I want, they don’t check. I can “select all” and then they all check, but if I click to un-check specific ones, they don’t un-check either.
I have double-checked my field names, and there is no punctuation and there are no spaces.  What am I missing?

Use the space bar to select the form fields rather than trying to click with the mouse.

• Help - Digital Signature Field Issue

Hi,
I encountered some issues when designing a workflow process that needs digital signature
Intro:
1. Initiator signed on Signature field A
2. Manager reviewed the form & signed on Signature field B
Issue 1:
The initiator signed the form on Signature field A, and then the signature icon (a pen with questionmark "?") appears on top of signature. From the tooltip it's not verified yet.
Hence, initiator right clicked it and verified it. The icon changed to a green tick with exclamation mark and right after that it changed back to the previous icon again(a pen with questionmark "?").
How to remain "verified" status?
Issue 2:
The form is still then passed to Manager after initiator submitted. The Manager now suppose to sign the form on Signature field B but error message prompted out when trying to sign!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Message box:
The document could not be signed.
There was an error when attempting to commit this signature.
The document was not saved.
A file error has occurred.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone faced this before? Any ideas?

Hi all,
For your information:
1. The form .xdp is designed by using Adobe LiveCycle Designer 7.1.
2. Form Manager is being utilized for this workflow.
3. The workflow contains 1 form only. It needs to be signed by both initiator and the manager on different signature fields.
4. I'm using Document Variable to pass the form.
Added Information for issues mentioned:
Issue 1
The initiator signed the form on Signature field A, and then the signature icon (a pen with questionmark "?") appears on top of signature. From the tooltip it's not verified yet.
Hence, initiator right clicked it and verified it. The icon changed to a green tick with exclamation mark and right after that it changed back to the previous icon again(a pen with questionmark "?").
How to remain "verified" status?
The case is whenever it's been verified(by right click and verified it), it will become verified for not more than 1 second and immediately it changed back to "is not verified", no matter how many times the initiator tried to verify the signature.)
--------------------------------------------------------------
When the manager got the signing error, he then cleared the initiator's signature(right click and clear) , and then he is able to sign on both signature fields! And both signature are not verified (with the signature icon-a pen with questionmark"?").
I don't why the manager can sign now.
Quote Will's
"Secondly, when a form with a signature is signed a second time the first signature will indicate that something has changed on the Form - specifically the second signature field.-by Will"
but now the form with a signatuer cannot even be signed for second time. As the error message prompt whenever the manager tries to sign on the signature field B.

• How do I resolve: Field Selection dialog [Pick... button] in "Mark as read-only" section of Signed tab for Digital Signature field is not working

I am using Acrobat Pro X on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 to create a form. When I have a simple form with a few fields, I am able to use the "Pick..." button to select the fields I want to select, but in a more complex form (20 fields with 3 Signature fields) The Field Selection dialog does not work. I can make the selections, but they are not saved. Removing fields does not resolve issue. IF I start with a blank form and add a few fields, the dialog will work, but after adding more, it quits working. Reader XI is also installed.

And that is why many responders use only the custom JavaScript calculation option.
The UI for the select fields and simplified field nations are only a way to pass field names to a JavaScript function that performs the actual calculation. Sometimes these functions call other functions and pass the parameters can lead to errors in the attempted code.
I would start to learn code JavaScript for Acrobat.
The pick field dialog is for performing calculations involving sums, products, averages, minimum, and maximum. I am not sure how that would work with a digital signature. Once a signature is applied the form fields could be locked.

• How do I delete a digital signature field?

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 on Snow Leopard. I created a digital signature for a PDF file but it didn't look good, so I decided to delete it. I figured out how to delete the signature, but the signature field with the little red arrow did not delete with my signature. I want my PDF form to revert to the way it was before I created the signature. I cannot simply close the PDF without saving because I'd lose all the information I've already entered. Stupid me forgot to save before attempting the digital signature.
HOW CAN I DELETE the digital signature field? Help!

Hi SM,
The place to look for permission settings is on the Security tab of the Document Properties dialog. You can get there by selecting the File > Properties menu item and then select the Security tab.
One thing to note is if the file is Reader Enabled you will need to use the File > Save a Copy menu item to create a non-Reader enabled version of the file. You cannot edit a Reader Enabled file. As an aside, the Save a Copy menu item won't be there if the file is not Reader Enabled.
If the file was created using Designer (which is only on Windows and I know you are using a Mac) then it has to be edited in Designer.
If the file was certified, then you need to remove (clear) the certifying signature before you can edit the file, and to do that you must have access to the private key that was used as part of that signature operation.
Finally, if the file is encrypted (e.g. Password Security or Certificate Security), you can edit the file, but you have to get Acrobat to realize you are the document owner which means you need the Permissions password or or logged in using a document owners digital ID (the former is only for Password Security and the latter is only for Certificate Security).

• Digital Signatures/Javascript After Signing?

Hello everyone,
I'm currently developing forms for my company, post processed through Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, that require digital signatures. Working in the food industry requires compliance to specific FDA guidelines, specifically CFR 21 part 11. In order to meet the requirements I must develop an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) that proves signatures are accurate and secure.
The process is tedious, and I have called a few meetings thus far to discuss some of the unforseen circumstances. During the discussion a question was brought up stating; What protects forms stored in the archives (3 years for compliance) from being corrupted by a disgruntled employee? Specifically, what stops an employee from clearing a digital signature? I realize we can set up file access rights to the forms to prevent such happenings, but majority of the forms are setup to hold 6 months to a year of info, thus wouldn't be archived until filled completely.
My question: Does anyone out there know of a javascript or trick to disable the "Clear Signature" function after signed? I've been searching and have turned up empty handed. Also, does anyone have any other javascripts that are used after digital signature occurs?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,

George,
Thanks for your response.
The issue is not if the file is deleted, the issue is if the files becomes "manipulated". I think "corrupted" was the wrong choice of words.
To explain: Any form that is completed has several digital signatures within the contents, depending on which QA Technicians complete the task (e.g. Calibrations, Metal Detector Settings, etc...). Forms are setup by days, weeks, or in some cases years, and have designated signature areas for the time period the test was conducted. So, after "John Smith" completes his portion of the form he is required to digital sign the document, after signing is complete all information is set to read only and cannot be altered unless the signature is deleted.
Digital signatures can be deleted in two ways:
1. The user who signed the document, based on active directory, has the ability to "clear signature". As and FYI: no other user is capable of deleting a signature signed by another employee. (does not apply to the form author)
2. The file creator can add a "Reset button" control, thus being able to delete any data specified.
So as I said I'm looking for a way to lock all signature functions, after sign is completed, even for the original signer. So if form "Calibration01" is currently being filled out and has signatures x,y,and z on it; I want to make sure if "x" is disgruntled they do not maliciously go and clear their signature. Also, I would like all fields associated with the signature to be locked without any way for the user to manipulate or revise data.
If anyone has any javascripts that run once signer digitally signs, it would be a great help,
Thanks,

• How do you auto populate a date in a different text field after someone digitally signs the PDF form?

I am trying to auto populate a date in a text box on the upper right hand corner of my document after someone digitally signs it. Is this possible? How do you do this?

Go to the Properties of the Digital Signature field and under the Signed tab enter this JS code, under the last option:
this.getField("SignDate").value = util.printd("mm/dd/yyyy", new Date());
this.getField("SignDate").defaultValue =this.getField("SignDate").valueAsString;
Of course, you can adjust the field name and the date format used in the script above.

• I created buttons and added a digital signature, when I saved and reopened my buttons disappeared?

I created a multi page PDF with numerous buttons for navigation. I realized I had forgotten to sign one of the individual pages, (I had recently added) so I simply put in a digital signature. I saved the document and reopened it later to find it made all the buttons non functional and uneditable... Some of the buttons were transparent (placed over written dates for reference) and some were colored boxes with text. The colored buttons became "flattened" and I could no longer edit them or click on anything.
Why did this happen? Is the digital signature to blame? Is there a way to edit the existing buttons or do I need to recreate all of them along with the actions associated with each? any assistance would be much appreciated!

It's possible to set up a signature field to lock other fields when it is signed. Could that be what happened? It also possible to choose to lock the file when signed to prevent changes. It's hard to tell what happened without seeing the file.

• Digital Signature in Document Signature field slow

The business requirement is for users to digital sign a Dynamic PDF. Digital ID's are created using Advanced - Security Settings - Digital ID - Add ID - Create a self-signed digital ID for use with Acrobat - New PKCS#12 digital ID , from Adobe Professional.
In the PDF, the user clicks in a Document Signature field to sign the document. It takes a VERY long time for this signature process to complete.
is there a trick I am missing? Is the slowness due to the way the digital ID was created?

Unfortunately, I cannot forward the form as it contains client data.
I have tested signing another PDF I've created with 2 fields using the same the digital ID's, and the process completed quickly.
Perhaps the problem lies with the size of my form which has 20 pages with 50 fields (on average) per page.
When signing the document, the signature details appear, the "saving file" temporary status bar appears and THEN the hourglass kicks in and takes 5 minutes before control is returned. Is there validation particular to the signing process I can disable? Alternatively, can I specify which pages are certified instead of the entire document?
