Dimension operator - reports of sequence growing too quickly

Hi,
It looks like the sequence used to populate one of our SCD type 2 dimesnion sis growing faster than expected.
-- Create sequence
create sequence RETAILER_SEQ
minvalue 1
maxvalue 9999999999999999999999999999
start with 63059812
increment by 1
cache 20;
Using 11.2.0.3 and uses dimesnion operator.
Anybody else seen this - 5 lveels in the dimension.
Should we be setting cache to nocache?
What lookis to be happening is that sequence ends one day at certain value and next time load starts uses a value which approx 0.5 million or so greater.
Thanks

We also noticed that are sequences were growing fast. We then set our sequences to no cache. This ensures that newly added records go in the exact sequence without any gaps. Now the sequences are growing normally.

  • SYSAUX tablespace grow too quick????

We have EBS R12.1 on LINUX system. Recently I found our development EBS database SYSAUX tablespace grow very quick. The SYSAUX tablespace has two data files and each data files size is 6GB (total 12 GB). In one month all 12 GB space are gone.
    My questions are:
    1. what objects or reports or ??? take this much space?
    2. how to delete un-need space?
    3. what is reasonable SYSAUX size?
    Thanks.

I double check SYSAUX space usage and found it only use less than 100MB. Why SYSAUX show all 12 Gb space are gone?

  • EBS Database R12.1 temporary tablespace grow too quick??

we have a EBS R12.1 database on Redhat LINUX server. Recently this database every day Temporary tablespace grow at least 1 GB. This database temporary tablespace (with two temp files) has been grow to 45 GB.
    Does anyone know what wrong?
    How to fix problem?

I eventually figure out this temporary tablespace grow is cause by OEM.
    SQL statement is:
    /* OracleOEM */ SELECT end_time, status, session_key, session_recid, session_stamp, command_id, start_time, time_taken_
    display, input_type, output_device_type, input_bytes_display, output_bytes_display, output_bytes_per_sec_display
    FROM (SELECT end_time, status, session_key, session_recid, session_stamp, command_id, start_time,
    time_taken_display, input_type, output_device_type, input_bytes_display, output_bytes_di
splay, output_bytes_per_sec_display FROM v$rman_backup_job_details ORDER BY end_time DESC) WHERE rownum
    = 1;
ANyone know why this statement will take 30GB temporary space on EBS R12.1?
    Thanks.

  • SharePoint TempDB.mdf growing too large? I have to restart SQL Server all the time. Please help

    Hi there,
On our DEV SharePoint farm > SQL server
The tempdb.mdf size grows too quickly and too much. I am tired of increasing the space and cannot do that anymore.
All the time I have to reboot the SQL server to get tempdb to normal size.
The Live farm is okay (with similar data) so it must be something wrong with our
    DEV environment.
Any idea how to fix this please?
    Thanks so much.

How do you get the tempdb to 'normal size'? How large is large and how small is normal.
Have you put the databases in simple recovery mode? It's normal for dev environments to not have the required transaction log backups to keep the ldf files in check. That won't affect the tempdb but if you've got bigger issues then that might be a symptom.
Have you turned off autogrowth for the temp DB?

  • Multi key (or composite key) dimension for operational reporting

Hi, I am creating operational reports in OBIEE 11g with PeopleSoft FSCM as source. As they are straight forward reports, I am planning to use OLTP tables directly for my OBIEE reporting.
Here is the simplified scenario - ACCOUNT_TBL_VW is dimension table which has BUSINESS_UNIT & ACCOUNT_ID as keys.
I have LEDGER Fact that has BUSINESS_UNIT, ACCOUNT_ID & other dimension keys with amount measures.
How do I link my LEDGER Fact with ACCOUNT Dimension?
Can I join multiple keys of Dimension with multiple keys of Fact? like this
    ACCDIM.BUSINESS_UNIT ---> LEDGFACT.BUSINESS_UNIT
    ACCDIM.ACCOUNT_ID ---> LEDGFACT.ACCOUNT_ID
As it is operational reporting, I don't have any ETL type process to prepare single column primary key(surrogate key) in Dimension Table & modifying Fact Table with dimension surrogate key value.

    Hi,
on the principal of how (in the absence of ETL); -
    1. Physical layer should reflect the actual physical joins, in some cases you may need the same table more than once to reflect self joins
    2. The business model layer is where you transform the physical into your desired star schema, hence here you will frequently (when using RDBMS tables) have numerous physical tables forming the source for a single logical table - this is also where you flatten the snowflake (or worse) into a star
    Make sense?
    regards,
    Robert.

  • Anybody got SCD Type 2's to perform quickly using dimension operator

    Hi there,
Hitting major performance problems running mappings to populate SCD Type 2's when they have large amounts of pre-existing data.
Anybody got this performing acceptably? Tried indexing but to no avail.
    Many Thanks

  • Operation Could Not Be Completed:  Too Many Open...

I've had this error showing up a lot in the Safari 3.2 and 4.0 beta activity window when loading multiple tabs of pages with many images (usually gallery type pages or blogs with lots of thumbnails). The result is that some images or other elements like style sheets don't load, leading to the blue question mark, or messed up formatting. Unfortunately, the activity window can't be stretched wide enough to see the whole error, but in fact it's "Operation Could Not Be Completed: Too Many Open Files". The error "socket(PF_ROUTE) failed: Too many open files" shows up in the Console as well, at least with Safari 4. I had also experienced similar problems with "Operation Timed Out" errors as well.
I've been pulling my hair out on this one, because it's rather inconsistent, not to mention annoying. You can usually get an individual page to load completely by refreshing it, but that kind of defeats the purpose of loading multiple tabs all at once. It's also less of a problem if more of those pages are already cached, but you never know for sure. Running your connection through a proxy also helps a bit, but not always.
I found a fix, but it's actually not Safari's "fault" per se. The issue lies in the allowable number of open files per user process, which is set by the system's launchd process at boot time. Note that Safari is not entirely innocent, as FireFox doesn't have this problem. It Seems that Safari just tries to load everything all at once, whereas FireFox does a better job of managing its load requests. Anyway if you run the following command in Terminal:
    sudo launchctl limit
the following list should show up (with perhaps slightly different values)
    cpu unlimited unlimited
    filesize unlimited unlimited
    data 6291456 unlimited
    stack 8388608 67104768
    core 0 unlimited
    rss unlimited unlimited
    memlock unlimited unlimited
    maxproc 200 532
    maxfiles 256 unlimited
The second column is a "soft limit" and the third column is a "hard limit", though to be honest I'm not exactly sure what the difference entails. The image loading problem is caused by hitting the maxfiles limit of just 256 files. The solution is to change maxfiles to 4096/unlimited, and also change maxproc to 1000/2000 since it's pretty low as well. That sounds like a pretty big change, but OS X server is supposed to change them to numbers like this when services like Apache are enabled, and Apple even mentions how to change maxproc at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1659
To make these changes, run the following two commands in Terminal and restart the computer:
    echo "limit maxproc 1000 2000" | sudo tee -a /etc/launchd.conf
echo "limit maxfiles 4096 unlimited" | sudo tee -a /etc/launchd.conf
The commands add the two lines in quotes to the launchd.conf file in /etc/ (if no file exists yet, it creates it). That should clear up the loading issues. I haven't noticed any other problems with these increased numbers, but I'll report back if anything seems to go amiss. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone.

I faced the same problem with an image gallery using css for image resizing. Thanks for the explanation.

  • Zen Xtra 60 GB: battery goes down too quickly, even when inact

Hello, folks, this is my problem with Zen Xtra 60 GB, which I own for more than a year. A week ago I suddenly noticed that the battery is completely down the other morning, after I played music last night for a few hours on AC. So I plugged it to AC again and - differently from the other people's experiences - it started operating and charging. And I could play the music while charging, and manage the tracks with Nomad Explorer as well. After it charged completely, I unplugged it from AC, played a few more tracks and then shut it down. Next morning battery was down again. So I kept experimenting a few days in a row: charged it completely, played a few tracks, shut it down... and next morning all from the beginning again. I also tried continuous playing on battery, after it was fully charged - the playing time is also decreased.
I guess, my battery is damaged (or some settings on my player are wrong? - which seems unlikely to me). So how can I get the battery replacement? Or can I use some other type of battery? If so, what should I know when choosing the other battery?
    Many thanks,
    jetlag

SSR, your advice was helpful - I was able to access rescue mode. Before that, I thought of this operation as of "press C while holding Ctrl..." - I always released play/stop button after sticking the reset button, but still too quickly, and then player started in normal mode. It appears, that one should not release play/stop still for a few seconds - until the rescue menu appears. Maybe it would be good to emphasize this moment (not releasing too quickly play/stop after sticking reset) in Catherina's instructions about accessing rescue mode?
But this did not solve my problem!
I charged the battery fully, upgraded the firmware to the latest, and did cleanup. The player rebuilt my library. I played two tracks and turned the player off. After 2 hours, turned it on - battery was drained off again.
Then I charged the battery again, removed the battery and put aside. After 24 hours reseated battery, turned the player on - the battery proudly showed all three bars! Then played one track and turned the player off, and after 3 hours turned on. The battery remained with one bar only. And after 8 hours, it was, of course, empty...
So oh, what can I do? My player is more than one year, so out of warranty. And have no idea, who could repair it here in Lithuania, anyway.
Should I buy Xtra with 30 Gb (cheapest option), and then do harddisc transplantation, to save my 35 Gb of music? (Don't tell me about backups - almost all my music is also on CDs, or on my PC - it just was too long and tedious process, to upload all that to the player, and then rename and organize tracks there...)

  • Exported fireworks loops too quickly

I've used Fireworks to create several frames holding images
and set the timings to be observed during the frames. Have tried
exporting this to animated gif, swf and png and then inserted these
resutling files into my dreamweaver page. The animation works
correctly when viewing on my C drive, but once ftp'd to my site and
viewing with a browser, the looping is too fast. No settings i've
made seems to slow down the animation. Anyone know what I might be
    doing wrong?
    thanks......becky

    Hi Becky:
They are photographic images - and relatively large
    dimensions - so GIF
may not be the best option to begin with, as GIF's reduce the
    color
palette and are affected by image dimensions (bigger files).
I'm not a Flash person, but inserting jpegs into a flash
    movie would
give you better quality and I would think, more control.
Both pages transistioned for me - although yes - incredibly
    fast. But I
think this ahs got to do with the timeline in flash, as both
    sample
pages are flash movies. I do not know if any frame delay
    settigns you
use in an animated GIF file will be directly read or
    understood by Flash.
If you want to stick with GIFS, also check to make sure that
    ALL the
frames are selected before you input the timing. It's
    possible that you
only applied the frame delay to one frame, rather than all of
    them.
If a slide show is what you're looking for, have you tried
    out Alan
    Musselman's Fireworks Album Creator extension?

    Hope this helps!

  • Specific application (Accufund) slow to perform specific operation (Report)

I am running Terminal Services on a Windows 2008 R2 dedicated box operating in an AD domain network.  The server is extremely fast in doing most operations (logins take a fraction of a second to complete, applications open very promptly, file and folder
listings are extremely fast, etc.)  There are never more than half a dozen simultaneous TS sessions running.  Users have their own local profiles on the TS machine.
Our accountant uses a product called Accufund, and its operations are generally quite fast as well.  However, when Accufund is asked to generate a report, it presents a dialog box to select the report.  Anyplace other than via the TS box,
it takes one or two seconds at most for the Select Report dialog box to appear when selected from the menu.  On the terminal Server this can takes anywhere from 4 to 5 minutes.
At one point in time, we determined that if the user has connected to TS with any local printers attached to the session, the Select Report delay would appear, but if she began a session without importing local printers, there was no Select Report delay
at all. This squares a bit with the vendor's assertion that the program is polling for printers before it presents the dialog box, and it may have difficulty if there are any local printers attached to the session.
Most recently, it appears that if local printers are attached to the TS session we have a 4-5 minute delay in reaching the dialog box, and if local printers are not attached, the delay is about 90 seconds.  The numbers do not seem linked to
how many users are logged on at the time.
I should mention that once the dialog box appears, all the rest of the reporting process goes smoothly and quickly whether or not local printers are attached.
I have applied the hotfix mentioned in  KB2655998 that removes the accumulation of idle TS ports (and I had many hundreds of them accumulated), but that had no effect on this
    issue.
I feel like this is an issue with the Accufund software, but the developer claims that they have many clients using RDP, citrix, etc who do not have these issues and they leave it as my problem.
Can anyone suggest a troubleshooting direction I can take, or list of things to check to be able to bolster my case with the vendor?
    Thanks very much,
    Peter

    Hi,
There seems to be general overview of your case, might this may be the case.
It seems software is using a printer driver that is located on a network print server, instead of a local printer driver on your hard disk. When you use a remote printer driver, you may notice that it takes longer to change your default printer setting, and
sometimes that software may perform more slowly than you may expect.
Software (accufund) is installed on your computer, but software was once running from the network. When the computer is not connected to the network, there is a long delay when you are opening reports.
For this you can try to reinstall the printer driver by using local port, either repair\replace the reports and check the result.
Re-install printer driver using local port.
    1. In the Printers dialog box (click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers), double-click Add Printer. When the Printer Wizard appears, click Next.
    2. Click to select Local Printer, and then click Next.
    3. Click Create a new port, select Local Port in the Type box, and then click Next.
    4. Type the network share name for the printer in the Port Name box. For example, type \\Server name\My printer, and then click OK.
Click Next, select your printer manufacturer and model from the list, and then follow the remaining steps in the wizard to reinstall your Windows printer driver.
Click Next, and then use the disk that was provided by your printer manufacturer, and then install it according to the installation instructions. For more information about how to install the printer driver that was provided with your printer, please contact
    your printer manufacturer.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • My ink depletes too quickly

My ink seems to run out too quickly.  I talked to a person from HP and I was informed that you should get at least 200  pages with 15 % coverage per cartridge.  I'm not getting any where near that many pages.  Is there a setting I can change on my HP Photosmart Printer to lengthen the life of my ink cartridge?  I know I am paying less for my cartridge and thought maybe that might be a possibility.  Has anyone else experienced this situation?  Thanks in advance'
    Strawbeary.

What printer model? What operating system? Are you replacing the cartrdiges when they actually run out of ink or when the first low ink warning happens?
Printing in draft mode will use about half the ink of normal or best modes.  Printing on photo paper uses much more ink than printing on plain paper for the same print.
Depending on your printer model the low on ink indicator is probably giving you an advance warning so you can have a spare cartridge on hand for when it is needed.  On most printers you will not need to change the cartrdige until it actaully runs out as exidenced in changes in print quality.

  • Error while running historical and operational reports in OIM 9.1

    Hi all,
I had a look at the operational reports and historical reports in OIM 9.1
When I tried to run the reports by supplying the parameters, I see the following behaviors.
a)The reports run as expected and display the information.
b)The moment, I click submit I see a series of exceptions in the Jboss log, the beginning of the thread being....
    WARN [TxConnectionManager] Connection error occured: org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.TxConnectionManager$TxConnectionEventListener@1e7aa15[state=NORMAL mc=org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.xa.XAManagedConnection@6fc757 handles=1 lastUse=1300177838234 permit=true trackByTx=true mcp=org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool$OnePool@62b4a1 context=org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.InternalManagedConnectionPool@40ba54 xaResource=org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.xa.XAManagedConnection@6fc757 txSync=null]
java.sql.SQLException: No more data to read from socket
c)The screen just hangs without any error message/report results. When I tried to click any other menu items on the left hand side, none of them responds after the screen is hung.
The only option available is to close the window and reopen the browser again.
It would be great if you could let me know the root cause for scenarios 'b' and 'c'
Looking forward to hearing from you,
    Many thanks in advance

    Hello,
I would like you to try the following to adjust your readerquotas.
Change the values of the parameters listed below to a larger value. We recommend that you double the value and then run the query to check whether the issue is resolved. To do this, follow these steps:
On the SharePoint 2010 server, open the Web.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Web Services\PpsMonitoringServer\
Locate and change the the below values from 8192 to 16384.
Open the Client.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebClients\PpsMonitoringServer\
Locate and change the below values from 8192 to 16384.
After you have made the changes, restart Internet Information Services (IIS) on the SharePoint 2010 server.
    <readerQuotas
    maxStringContentLength="2147483647"
    maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647"
    maxBytesPerRead="2147483647"
    maxArrayLength="2147483647"
