Direct execution of the sequence when UI launches?

Hello all,
I would like to ask if it is possible, the open sequence and run UUT's buttons to be removed from the user interface and the selected sequence to be started automatically when the UI launches. To be more precise, I would like after opening the user interface and logging in, the sequence path to be read let's say from an ini file and then to be run with the entry point run UUT's automatically without pressing any buttons. How could this be implemented? Thank you very much.

You could try this. I wrote a UI that contained a LabVIEW style button to START TestStand, hence I did not use the UIControls to connect the buttons to the ApplicationMgr etc....
Here is the code I use to start a sequence ( I assume it is already loaded in the SequenceFileViewMgr control, by the use of the OpenSequenceFile method. I think that was in the link you had already posted).

Installing the "Update" installs a totally new version. The old version of Photoshop CC is still installed. It is likely you are running the old version.

What is the sequence when a PDF is generated?

I'd like to know the sequence of events when a PDF is generated from InDesign CS4 using the Adobe PDF 7.0 printer. Postscript is somehow involved before the PDF is generated and I'd like to have a better understanding of what is going on.
Acrobat's Help states:
In an authoring application such as Adobe InDesign, use the Print command with the Adobe PDF printer to convert your file to Adobe PDF. Your source document is converted to PostScript and fed directly to Distiller for conversion to PDF, without manually starting Distiller. The current Distiller preference settings and Adobe PDF settings are used to convert the file.
This is the tricky one, at least for me, because the explanation is confusing. My difficulty is this: under InDesign > File > Print > Printer I have a file called Adobe PDF 7.0 (as well as my normal printers), and I'm not sure which "Adobe PDF settings" are being referred to.

At some stage before I get the PDF, a Postscript file comes into existence, and this is "fed directly to Distiller for conversion to PDF". At this stage, does the Postscript file only carry all the options that I requested in the InDesign Print dialog box (Output, Graphics, Transparency, Advanced and so on)? Or has there been some back-and-forth discussion between Distiller (and it's settings) and InDesign (and its print settings) to sort out any conflicts?
In summary, is it correct to say that InDesign generates the Postscript all by itself (subject to its print settings), then Distiller takes the Postscript from InDesign and converts it to PDF (subject to its own settings).

Peter's right -- even I need a map to navigate this project. But anyone else trying to follow it would need a map and a GPS -- or my PDF. For future reference, I will be generating a detailed PDF on the process of getting from InDesign to iGen print, covering all the issues raised in my various posts, plus likely costs, and other aspects of the process. And that's quite a stack of info. I'll make the document freely available via this forum, and I'm hoping that Peter (anyone else?) is going to offer to check it for technical accuracy.
It's a bit worrying to hear from Harbs that maybe I should have printed to PDF. I've just generated PDFs for the smaller 4 books by exporting and using Quite Imposing to impose. They've given me a one-month license, and I must say QI works beautifully, generating an imposed 32-page signature in 10-20 seconds. Transparency has been retained, the images are unsliced, and the PDFs are a joy to look at. And so they should be after 3 years in the making. But will they print correctly on the iGen?
I've left the 800-page monstrosity till last, and maybe I will use the Adobe PDF 7.0 printer for that one, and impose with Print Booklet. But maybe I won't have to change the process. I have just sent the printer an 6-page test print (20 MB), which I hope will cover all the transparency issues, and I'm hoping there are no printing problems. It can be downloaded from:

If anyone would like to comment on whether I have covered all the issues that might arise, I would be most appreciative.
Let me summarise (correct me if I'm wrong):
1. When generating a PDF to print from, there are different considerations than when generating a PDF to look at (I didn't realize that). When printing for example, slicing of images is not important (assuming they will print correctly), but it could be an issue in a "looked at" PDF because someone might want to copy images from the PDF. And that's not much chop if they're in five sections.
2. Exporting to PDF: retains layers, transparency, and "whole" images. There may be an issue with transparency, but if text is on the top layer, transparency should not be an issue -- supposedly. The problem is: when you impose a PDF using third-party software (such as Quite Imposing), or when you move/delete/add pages using Acrobat, layers are lost anyway. So, if having layers in a PDF minimizes transparency issues, the benefit is lost when you shuffle pages around. So maybe, as per Harbs comment, printing to PDF is the better solution.
3. Printing to PDF: using Adobe PDF 7.0 (or a later version) and imposing using Print Booklet has the advantage that there will be no transparency issues, because everything is flattened; and with the flattening comes correct printing -- except that images may be sliced and that could become an issue.
So it appears to me it comes down to this: is there any quality difference between printing and exporting to PDF? If there is no discernible difference, and if the document contains overlapping transparent areas:
• Print to PDF when the PDF is to be imposed and printed;
• Export to PDF when the PDF is to be "looked at" only.

Project renames sequence and all clips in the sequence when a clip is added

My project is renaming my sequences and the clips in those sequences whenever I add a clip. For example, I have a sequence called "dance section 2", which contains 20 some-odd clips with various names. When I add a clip named "drop from above", the name of the sequence is changed to "drop from above", and the name of every other clip in the sequence is also changed to "drop from above" (video, audio, stills, everything). When I add a clip named "spins", all the names are changed to "spins".
The name of the sequence is changed in both the timeline and the browser, but the names of the other clips are changed only in the timeline. In the browser, they keep their old names. The exception to this is the last clip added before the name changer. For example, if I add "drop from above" to the sequence, and then add "spins", the clip named "drop from above" is renamed "spins" in the browser as well as in the timeline, but the other clips are renamed only in the timeline.
The clips in the sequence also keep their original content - so the sequence looks the same as it did before, but all the names of the clips are changed.
This is only happening in one project. All of my other projects are working fine.
I've tried restarting and deleting preferences. I've also looked at the autosave vault for the project. The backup projects saved after a certain time all behave the same way, and the projects before that time all behave normally. I can't imagine what would have caused this, though, since I've been working on this project all day and nothing's happened to my computer or hard drive or anything.
Also, there are no freeze frames at the beginnings of my sequences (I read another thread with a somewhat similar issue and getting rid of freeze frames seemed to help that person).
I'm in FCP 7.0 on a Macbook Pro.

I've had this happen. My guess is that it's related to round-tripping to/from Color, but I can't be sure. IMHO, the sequence is corrupted. I just dealt with it for a while, then rebuilt it by making changes from an earlier version.
Sorry I don't have a better solution, but at least you know you're not alone.

Modifying Sequence directly after loading the sequences

Hi,
I'm planning to write some kind of profiler to find out which step consums the most testtime.
Therefore I'm using the Engine Callbacks SequenceFilePreStep and SequenceFilePostStep.
Whenever a Step in the sequence is executed the SequenceFilePreStep generates a timestamp and after the execution of the step the SequenceFilePostStep generates another timestamp. Both timestamps can be used to estimate how long that step was executed.
I'm using many different sequence files (e.g. one sequence fiel for feature A another sequence file for feature B and so on).
A sequence file can be called (loaded) from both the top level sequence file or from any other sequence file.
My problem is, that I don't want to modify each of the sequence files. The profiling should rather be initited automatically.
My idea is, that the process model will add the above mentioned subsequences into every sequence file that is used during execution of the testplan.
Any Idea how to implement that? As far as I have seen there is no ProcessModel callback which is called whenever a sequence file is loaded, isn't it?

Hi Thorsten,
That would be a great product suggestion- StationFileLoad callback. So in the TestStand Reference Manual in Chapter 10 there is an awesome table that shows all the Engine Callbacks (table 10-1). It shows where the callbacks should be used and what not. Basically the ProcessModelPreStep and ProcessModelPostStep might be what you are looking for. You'll Notice that it states: Before the engine executes each step in any client sequence file that the process model calls, and each step in any resulting subsequence calls.
So why not just use these? The step is being passed as a parameter so you have access to it.

I presume the sequence is first adapter ,second own modules, finally system modules at the sender end.
and the sequence at the receiver end is first own modules , second system modules ,third adapter.

1. for async sender/receiver adapters, you use modules before the standard adapter module.
2. for sync sender/receiver adapters, you can wither use modules before the standard adapter module (they will affect the request message) or after the adapter module (affecting the response message).

Execution of TestStand-Sequence in LabVIEW via TS-API: Different Execution times for same sequence

Hello Forum-Members,
I have a problem concerning the execution of an TestStand-Sequence in LabVIEW. I have created a VI that offers the ability to choose a TestStand-Sequence-File and then executes the sequence using the TestStand-API. The implementation is based on an example in C++-Application found following this link:

The implementation works quite solid in case the VI is executed the first time. The VI processes the chosen sequence in a acceptable duration.
But in case the execution is started a second time, the execution of the sequence takes ca. 30sec more than in the first case.
Until now I have not found a solution and hope someones got a hint concerning this problem...
I am using LabVIEW 2013 and TestStand 2013.
I have attached my own VI, a sample sequence with a small sample VI, so you can reproduce the problem.

What would be a reasonable way to replace the "Execution.WaitForEndEx"? My first idea is to get the respective thread of the execution and use the "Thread.WaitForEnd".
To clarify my problem:
The execution of the sequence itself takes longer time and so the execution of the calling VI. I have attached pictures of the log file of the first and second execution.
Further I don't get any dialog popups during the shutdown of TestStand. (I have activated the "ReportObjectLeaks" using the "DebugOptions") While developing the attached VI I've gotten several popups. But these popups disappeared after closing all references.
Maybe you have another hint how to locate the problem.

after perusing other subjects with playback issues:
this is the fix:
-Launch Control Panel - Double click Quicktime, If you do not see quicktime, look on the top left side of control panel and switch to classic view. This will then allow you to see Quicktime.
-Now click the advanced tab and click on Safe Mode GDI Only, Apply, then ok.

At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.

Preuut and postuut sequences are not executing when run using UI. They run when using the sequence editor.

I am using TestStand 3.5 and LabVIEW 8 in a Windows XP environment.
I have a sequence that runs properly when run from the sequence editor. I have made a few minor mods to the simple Operator Interface that ships with TestStand. When I run my sequence using the modified Operator Interface, the PreUUT and PostUUT sequences do not execute. Only the main sequence executes. This also happens when I run the demo sequences that ship with TestStand.
What am I missing?

It sound like you are executing the sequences without the process model, do you get a report at the end of the execution?
What are these minor mods you have done?

Have you tried updating PSE12 to the latest update and checked?
Standard troubleshooting steps :
> Disable all Non-Microsoft Startup Services. (Ref : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/disable-startup-items-services-windows.html )
> Disable all the Antivirus softwares like CA, Norton,Mc Afee etc. temporarily from the computer.
Try launching now and check.
