Directly Printing RTF document using java

Hi,
can we directly print RTF document using java, without giving any preview or any other screen in between.
Actually we created inventory system, in which when user create any sale information, it should print the bill for the same with single button click.
Any sample code or help will be highly appreciated
Thanks in advance

  • Printing a PDF document using Java 1.4 Printing API

    Hi,
    When I tried to print a PDF document using JAVA 1.4 Printing API, I got the following exception.
    Exception in thread "main" sun.print.PrintJobFlavorException: invalid flavor
    at sun.print.Win32PrintJob.print(Win32PrintJob.java:290)
    at Printing.main(Printing.java:40)
    I am able to print the same PDF document using Acrobat reader.
    Is PDF format not supported in JAVA 1.4 printing API? or is something wrong in my code?
    here is the sample JAVA program that I was using
    import javax.print.*;
    import javax.print.attribute.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Printing {
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
    String filename = args[0];
    PrintRequestAttributeSet pras =
    new HashPrintRequestAttributeSet();
    DocFlavor flavor = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.PDF;
    PrintService defaultService =
    PrintServiceLookup.lookupDefaultPrintService();
    DocPrintJob job = defaultService.createPrintJob();
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(filename);
    DocAttributeSet das = new HashDocAttributeSet();
    Doc doc = new SimpleDoc(fis, flavor, das);
    job.print(doc, pras);
    Thread.sleep(10000);
    System.exit(0);
    Thank you

    Here's a pure Java solution (that works!):
    http://www.mycgiserver.com/~zhouwu/pdf/readme.html
    The caveats are:
    - prints only to the default printer
    - requires a properties file located in the home directory
    my workaround for the last:
         * Print a PDF file to the default printer (might consume lots of memory!).
         * <p>
         * <b>Required:</b>
         * <ul>
         * <li>a file "acrobat.properties" needs to be in the working directory. The content is:
    <table align="center" bgcolor="#E0E0E0" border=1 cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0"><tr><td><pre style="margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0">
    #com.adobe.acrobat.Viewer Properties

    </pre></td></tr></table>
         * <li>The JAR files PDFPrinter.jar, acrobat.jar and MRJToolkitStubs.zip in the CLASSPATH.
         * </ul>
         * <p>
         * Note: the file "acrobat.properties" is expected to be in the user's home directory. As this is not always feasible,
         * the system property "user.home" is mapped to "user.dir" for the time of execution.
         * @param fileName Name of PDF file to print.

Despite the note at the site above that "printing quality is not very good", i can't agree: the print quality is quite good. Not perfect, but acceptable for most uses.

  • How to print PDF files using java print API

    Hi,
    I was goign throw lot of discusion and reading lot of forums related to print pdf files using java api. but nothing seems to be working for me. Can any one tell me how to print pdf files using java api.
    Thanks in advance

    Mike,
    Can't seem to get hold of the example described in your reply below. If you could let us have the URL to get then it would be great.
    My GUI application creates a pdf document which I need to print. I want to achieve this using the standard Java class PrinterJob (no 3rd party APIs I'm afraid, commercial restraints etc ..). I had a stab at it using the following code. When executed I get the pretty printer dialog then when I click ok to print, nothing happens!
    boolean showPrintDialog=true;
    PrinterJob printJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob ();
    printJob.setJobName ("Contract.pdf");
    try {
    if (showPrintDialog) {
    if (printJob.printDialog()) {
    printJob.print();
    else
    printJob.print ();
    } catch (Exception PrintException) {
                   PrintException.printStackTrace();
    Thank you and a happy new year.
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi,
    How to Print Web contents using Java Fx application? ie, displaying a web page as it is on the application..........
    Thanks......

    You might want to try to SwingComponentize third-party Java web browser (JDic, NativeSwing).
    Another recommended alternative is to wait for the JWebPane because it is designed to work with JavaFX (http://weblogs.java.net/blog/alex2d/archive/2008/12/jwebpane_projec_1.html). No date is given to JWebPane's release though. JWebPane will be my Christmas's wish.

  • Printing PDF documents using FOP

    Hi,
    I seem to be getting the following error when printing to PDF using FOP:
    report error:
    ORA-29273: HTTP request failed
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_HTTP", line 1186
    ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure
    I've set up PDF printing by following the (FOP) instructions in the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
    I've verified that my OC4J container and the jsp page apex_fop.jsp is running as it should as I can get PDF documents back if I call the jsp page outside of APEX (by sending in my own template and xml request parameters).
    I've also verified that I do hit the apex_fop.jsp page when trying to print from within the APEX application. The problem is that the two parameters template and xml are both null when trying to print PDF from APEX.
    It appears as though APEX is not sending in the template and xml request parameters.
    My test case is to create a simply report query in shared components, use a generic layout, select the pdf option and click on Test Report. The result is the error shown above.
    Any ideas? I know I'm close!
    btw, I'm using 10g and APEX 3.1

    Hi All

    PDFPrintPage pages = new PDFPrintPage(pdfFile);
    // Create Print Job
    PrinterJob pjob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();

    pjob.setJobName(f.getName());
    Book book = new Book();
    book.append(pages, pf, pdfFile.getNumPages());
    pjob.setPageable(book);
    // System.out.println(pjob.getPrintService());
    // Send print job to default printer
    pjob.print();
    but when i am running my program i am getting error
    Exception in thread "main" java.awt.print.PrinterException: Invalid name of PrintService.
    Please anybody, knows the solution for this error?
    Thanks In Advance
    Indira

    It seems that either there is no default printer setup or you have too many printers or no printer setup at all. Try running the following code. It should print the list of available print services.
    import java.awt.print.*;
    import javax.print.*;
    public class PrintServiceNames{
         public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception {
              PrintService[] printServices = PrinterJob.lookupPrintServices();
              int i;
              for (i = 0; i < printServices.length; i++) {
                   System.out.println("P: " + printServices);
    }From the list pick one of the print service names and set it explicitly like "printerJob.setPrintService(printServices);" and then try running the program.

  • Printing remote page using java

    Thanks for your replies for my previous queries I would very thankfull to you all
    If you can suggest me a way to this.
    I would like to know how a remote file is printed using java
    This is the code I am using.
    public void print() throws Exception
         FileInputStream psStream=null;
         try
         {  //This is pointing to a file in the server
              psStream = new FileInputStream("c:/Index_page_Links.gif");
         catch (FileNotFoundException ffne)
                   System.out.println("File Not Found Exception");
         DocFlavor psInFormat = DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.GIF;
         Doc myDoc = new SimpleDoc(psStream, psInFormat, null);
         //This returns the list of printers that are capable of
         //printing the document in the format speciied.
         PrintService[] psrvc = PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(null,null);
         if (psrvc.length > 0)
              DocPrintJob job = psrvc[0].createPrintJob();
              try
                   job.print(myDoc, null);
              catch (Exception pe)
                   System.out.println("Print exception");
    } I need some claification on one point
    PrintService[] psrvc = PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(null,null);Is this going to return the printers conected to the users system.
    What I need is the user who is borwsing the site should be able to print
    the file from his local printer.
    (The document what he should print is located in the server and we should
    not show him that document).

    Is this going to return the printers conected to the users system.If it returns anything, it will return the printers connected to the system where the code is running.
    You have some words in your post that suggest you have a web application in mind, or something like that. It's hard to tell.

  • Print Draft Document using Crystal Report in SAP 8.8

    I created a Crystal Report Layout using SQL View as data source for AR Invoice which prints out fine. (everthing on 1 page)
    To print Draft Invoice, I copied the view to use ODRF/RDF1 instead of OINV/INV1, copied the Crystal report and updated the data source to the new view. When print Draft Invoice, it prints 3 pages - page 1 blank, page 2 just the "DRAFT" watermark, page 3 the crystal report without watermark.
    Steps to print Draft Invoice: Sales-A/R > Sales Report > Document Drafts Report > Open selected Draft Invoice document > File > Select Layout and Print...
    What is happening behind the scene when printing Draft documents? What is the correct way to print Drafts (e.g. special settings designing Crystal Reports)?
    Thanks,
    Grace

    Thank you for your reply. It works in this specific report.
    But we have both PLD and Crystal Report in the system, changing the settings means the PLD will lose their watermark...
    Also, I don't know how the Draft is displayed, but when select Print Preview for Draft, it's asking for parameter (DocEntry), which I have setup a DocKey@ in Crystal Report and set it in the Selection Manager. Does SAP provide DocEntry in Draft Invoice (ODRF) the same way as in Invoice (OINV)?
    Thanks,
    Grace

  • How to open Word Document using java?

    Respected Sir/ Madam,
    I am doing my project in Network Security using java. I have to transfer the files from server to the client. Each transferred file should have some of the access privileges such as read, write and exeucte. If the transferred file is a word document means then automatically the client should open Microsoft word and if the file is having Read Permission alone then the save, Save As, cut,copy, paste options in the MS - Word should be disabled. This is similar for all the files that i have transferred. That is if the transferred file is excel, audio, video,txt file the corresponding application should be opened properly. How could I acheive this. If the file is having write permission then if the user clicks the save option then the contents of the file should be saved in the server machine not in the client machine, Could we achieve this???? Can anyone help me regarding this? Please give me your views about this query?

    Respected Sir / Madam,
    Thank you very much for your reply. Could we use Microsoft API inside java program to achieve my doubts?? Could U explain it more????

         </bean>
    </beans>               hi there i have a XML Document above,and i need to append values to the <list> using java.
    i have string values like
         <value>AA74b|ABS|5000|5000|40430HFQ6|HASCO 2006-O M-3||4583|91-15+|8.99|1.16|534|-0.58|-2|-2644|0.016|712|0.080|367625</value>to add, but failing to navigate to the <list>
    any help?

    1. Read the XML file into a DMO object, walk the DOM to find the list, insert your new entry as a child, write the DOM back to a file.
    2. If the XML is not in a file, but in a string, then you can do the same with string input and output.
