Director 12 on mac os 10.7.5 spinning beachball every time i switch apps

I have 16GB ram, and once director is launched - even with no movie open if i switch to the finder, or even a screen saver starts, when i go back to director i get the spinning beachball for 30-45 seconds, even on a fresh boot with no other apps running...
Any suggestions? this seems to be new to director 12.
It's not reading the disk, i have tons of ram, eventually it comes back, but its quicker to quit then click out to another app and relaunch when i'm done ... not exactly good for productivity...

Once I opend one of my older files, the problem disappeared, even that I open the "problem files" after that.
It is really strange and I don't understand the reason. But whenever that "delay-problem" appears again, I just once open that special file, and the problem is gone. I just open and then close it, I even don't run it. It's magic.
It must contain something with "reparing effect". I checked  the Xtras and some things, but I could not find an essential difference to my others app, as I always work the same style. My slight guess is, that it might have something to do with the "scriptExecutionStyle.
So I recommend this: Open old Director files, until the problem disappears. Okay, this is an unsatisfying solution, but it worked, whyever.

  • Spinning beachball every time I r-click a file

So, this issue is with my computer at work. I normally wouldn't come to the support forums for work-related issues, but our IT support here only know PC's.
Here's the problem: Every time I right-click on a file, I get a spinning beachball for 2-3 minutes.
Here are some other system specs:
    2yr old Mac Pro
    2 x 2.66 GHz Quad-Core
    12 GB RAM
This only began happening after IT had me install and run some 3rd party optimization/fix-it utility called "OnyX"--ironically to try and solve another issue (which it didn't). Ever since I ran that program, I've had this spinning beachball problem.
This is so frustrating, because I never have these types of problems with my own, personal Apple products at home. I wish... WISH... they would hire IT staff here that know how to NOT eff up our Macs... but that's a personal rant for another day.
    Thanks in advance!

They and you shoud know before tinkering to have multiple backups and how to repair a system. Whether Windows or a PC, whether chkdsk or fsck or booting from system DVD.
Two years ago all Mac Pro came with 10.6.0 as of sept 2009.
Onyx is not really for fixing and the OS forum has more than a couple people that had the same bad luck using Onxy and other cleaning programs. They can and will do more and have a lot of features. Knowing which to use when. In he past "Applejack" was darn easy and safe to use.
    Safe Boot
    Repair from DVD
Clone system to another drive and repair and test booting there (do safe boot also first time)
Then tell us and focus on the underlying issue you began with - but don't mention.
External devices, drivers, an update or install.
As for 2009 Mac Pro there is/was a bug in audio, that affected all models and iTunes as well, and was never issued for 10.5.8 users, only for 10.6.2 and above. So you really should look at getting it - a clean install on a new drive. Maybe that is the direction to take.

  • S-L-O-O-O-W!!!! Has this issue been resolved? Spinning Beachball every time I change anything!

Hi all - I have the latest version of Dreamweaver CC 2014 (6733 Build). It is frustratingly slow. I searched and found a lot of discussions on this, tried some recommendations, but have not found a resolution to this problem - and I need to get this working ASAP because I am spending way too much time waiting and waiting and waiting. I even started a new site, with only one html page. Something as simple as applying an h1 tag and then changing the text attributes: Color - wait, wait, wait (spinning beachball), wait, wait . . . changed. Then change size -  wait, wait, wait (spinning beachball), wait, wait . . . changed. Change Font - wait, wait, wait (spinning beachball), wait, wait . . . changed. I am sure you get the point. This is a totally unacceptable way to work! The same thing is happening on both my desktop computer and my laptop. Any advice would really be appreciated.

FOLLOW UP: I must say that Adobe Support handled this issue extremely well - thank you Preran and Sonam for you assistance! They tried to contact me the day after my post, but I wasn't available - we set up an appointment for today and she called right on time. We did troubleshooting for about an hour and discovered that it was a font issue. I use a font utility that had some kind of conflict with my system fonts. Once it was resolved, Dreamweaver is quite speedy now. My advice for anyone having this issue would be to turn off all non-system fonts and see if that helps. Keep up the great work and support Adobe . . . this user absolutely appreciates it!

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.

I believe that system has a hall sensor on it to detect when the lid is closed so it can put the system to sleep and/or disable the monitor so it can be used with an external monitor only. If the sensor is marginal or has a bad cable, it may intermittently cut the monitor on and off, and may likewise put the system to sleep. One way to check would be to plug in an external monitor and if the laptop's screen cuts off or doesn't show up, start using the trackpad and press on a non-typing key like the shift key. If the external display suddenly pops and becomes active while the laptop display remains black, it's probably a problem with the sensor or the cable/connection. You might be able to fool the sensor into kicking on and off by moving a magnet over it. It's located on the left had side of the base with the unit opened up, and right over the audio output plug.
I know of some people that put a small magnet right over the hall sensor's location so the laptop display turns off and they use the system with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If fooling with magnets, make sure they're small and don't get them close to the hard drive because a strong magnet can wipe them out.
I don't know if this will help you much, but it might.

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • I installed Facetime on my Mac but it doesnt show "Contacts" . Every time I sign in to my account, I can only see the icon"Next" but nothing happens when I click that. Is there an way to uninstall and reinstall facetime ?

Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall Facetime on Mac ? The present version simply doesn't work. It shows me no "Contacts'. Infact once I click Next after I login, nothing at all happens. What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.
    deltajane wrote:

Syncing your device with itunes will then enable you to remove whatever photos you wish to remove from your device deleting them with the computer and not the iphone.

  • What do I do to stop Finder in Mac OS 10.9.3 from crashin every time I open a Dropbox Folder ?

Right after I installed the latest version of Dropbox 2.8.3 on my MacBook Air with Mavericks 10.9.3, my Finder restarts every time I try to access the Dropbox folder.
I know the documents are there because I can access some of them directly from the "Recent items" menu in some programs.
The problem persists even after I quit the Dropbox Program on the menu bar. I have also restarted the computer (also tried it in Safe Mode).
Don't know what else to try.
Pretty much all my documents are in Dropbox so the Mac is almost useless until I solve this problem.
    Any suggestions Please ?
    Thanks.

    Posted his solution here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3768164?start=0&tstart=0 :
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Launch the Terminal application by entering the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. If that doesn’t work, then in the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Copy or drag – do not type – the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    find ~ -type f -name .DS_Store -delete
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new dollar-sign (“$”) prompt appears below what you entered, quit Terminal.
    It solved the problem.

  • Mac OSX 10.5.6 update fails every time

    Hi,
I recently did a defrag on my macbook pro and reinstalled it from the leopard disk. And so it was reset to mac OSX 10.5, now every time I try the combined update to 10.5.6 it fails, I tried twice with the updated deleting in after the first try. I then downloaded it from the downloads but to no avail.

Hello and welcome to the discussions. Just recently the 10.5.6 combo update was revised to allow the update from 10.5.0. Before it was required 10.5.1 to update using the 10.5.6 combo. Try updating to 10.5.1 then run the 10.5.6 combo.
    You can download 10.5.1 here:

    Hope it works for you,

  • How can I stop Mac OS X from resetting proxy settings every time it reboots

I have an issue I have been working on for a few weeks now.  We have several Mac Pros that connect to a Windows network.  We use an automatic proxy pac file from the proxy service.  I can change the settings in the network control panel, and in the browsers, even as the root ID in hopes it would hold and affect all of the users that may login.  But every time the Mac Pro reboots, the settings are reverted to the previous setting.
I have tried setting up a fresh new location in the network control panel, but that has not helped.
I am still learning Mac OS X and I have not figured this one out yet.
Anyone have any ideas on how to set a proxy setting and have it apply to all the users that will login to our new settings?
    Thanks in advance.

There are multiple ways to configure the proxy settings on a Mac it sounds like your trying to do it manually. All the places I have been that have used a proxy server have used the "Auto Proxy Discovery" method and this has worked fine. This will work fine for multiple user accounts on multiple Macs.
For those unaware "Auto Proxy Discovery" uses WPAD (Windows Proxy Auto-Discovery) protocol. This means it either 'learns' the address to download a PAC file from via DHCP option code 252 (preferred), or if it cannot get that address via DHCP it tries using the DNS method.
All the Mac web-browsers use the proxy settings learned via System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> Proxies however some other software particularly command-line tools may need configuring individually. For example curl needs to be told separately.

  • Syncing 2 Macs & Lots of Items Added or Deleted Every Time

I sync my iCal calenders between my home and work computers with .Mac. It has been working great though recently, the last couple weeks, every time I start up my computer at work and syncs it says it wants to add 40 some items and when I go home at night and start & sync that computer it says it wants to delete 40 some items. It is always about 40, which is more events than I ever usually add on a day to day basis. Can anyone figure out what is going on here? When I check my Calender it looks like everything is OK, but I am getting increasingly nervous that things are/are going to start disappearing without me noticing it. If there was some way to figure out what items were causing the abnormality I could go and get rid of them off of both computers.
Any ideas would be great, thanks....

    Zachary,
I think if you just check one of your computers to be sure the data is "correct" there, you can then use .Mac system preferences (advanced tab) on both Mac to "Reset Sync Data..."
Comeback if you need more help than this.
BTW: Very few problems are associated with .Mac sync though several do appear associated with iSync (and there is a very good set of trouble shooting direction for that here: Craig Fer, "iCal crashes on launch", 07:57pm Jul 22, 2005 CDT )

  • Safari gives me the spinning wheel every time I browse, have to force-quit

    Hello,
I've been having a ton of issues with Safari these past few weeks. I'm using version 3.2.1 (4524.27.1) and I've reset, trashed preferences, nuked fonts, run OnyX, repaired permissions... and I'm still having the same problems.
Basically after I've browsed for about 5 minutes, Safari will hang on whatever page I'm trying to load, whether I'm loading up pages in multiple tabs or just a single page. Sometimes I can get the page to finish loading and continue browsing if I hit "stop" and "reload" a bunch of times, but mostly I get the spinning beach ball wheel, and then Safari shows up as "not responding" in my Force Quit Applications window. The program doesn't crash - it just gives me the spinning ball until I have to force-quit, relaunch, and start over - only to do it all again.
It's driving me bonkers - I even had the cable company come out and check my cable modem connection (I'm using RoadRunner), but it was running normally.
Below is my console log from this morning, when I started up and had to force-quit Safari again. Hopefully the issue is really obvious and I can get back to normal:

    Hi everyone -
First off, thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried each one - unfortunately, Safari is still giving me the spinning wheel when I surf for more than a couple of minutes.
Taking QuicktimeKirk's advice, I did a discussions search for "DNS issue" and found several threads that recommended adding OpenDNS DNS Servers to the Network preferences pane (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220). I also registered at the OpenDNS website and installed their "OpenDNS Updater" software.
After I did this, Safari seemed to actually go to the spinning wheel, freeze-up state quicker... although I might be a bit paranoid.
I forgot to mention that I already had "Warn when visiting a fraudulent website" checked off the in the preferences pane, and replacing Safari with Firefox as the default browser unfortunately didn't make much of a difference.
I'm copying below my most recent Console log. Perhaps there's something different I need to do with DNS...? Quicktime Kirk, if you suspect it's something to do with DNS, could you please be more specific with regards to what I should be looking for? I really appreciate it.
Thanks again for all the tips, everyone. I've got my fingers crossed that with your help, I'll be back to normal soon!

I have been having an issue now for a few weeks where everytime I wake my Macbook air from sleep I get the spinning rainbow and the Wifi indicator at the top will be completely gone and it will never recover.  I then have to restart my mac and sometimes ill get the flashing question mark when it restarts and sometimes it starts up fine after the restart.  Its a pain to have to restart my mac everytime i want to use it.  Can anyone suggest potential fixes for this problem?

  • I get a spinning ball every time I search in Itunes 11.0

I just installed Itunes 11.0 and whenever I start typing in the search box (the first letter doesnt even show up) I just get the spinning ball. It never stops and I have to force Itunes to quit.
I'm using a macbook pro operating snow leopard (10.6.8)  2.4 GHz intel core 2 Duo. (I upgraded to Lion when it first came out and itmade everything run really slow so I wiped the computer and reinstalled leopard from a backup!)
I should note that I store my itunes library on an external drive. But that has never been a problem before, and in fact all the songs play fine when I click on them or press play. It seems to only be the search box that is hanging with the spinning ball.

Upon further inspection, it appears the problem is this: when I start typing a word beginning with the letter "a", it doesnt wait for me to finish typing, but rather starts searching for ALL words containing an "a" in them. There are quite a lot. I have about 40,000 songs on my computer. So this simple search is almost crashing my computer.
I have found that results will begin showing ut only after about 5 minutes of spinning rainbow. Which makes the search feature completely impractical..
I consider this a serious bug in itunes 11.0. Or at least a very flawed feature.
