Directory corrupted attributes
I have a very strange problem in my LDAP servers. I have an entry with an attribute that has the following behaviour:
1. Retrieving the list of attributes with the C SDK, it appears. Later, using the ldap_get_values, I don't get anything any value for it.
2. It doesn't appears in a search with ldapsearch.
3. From the console I can see the attribute, but it has no value.
If it is an empty or a null value it would appear in a ldapsearch operation. Of course, it is not an space or a tab.
So, I guess the LDAP server is corrupted. Any suggestion?

Actually, the ldapsearch utility filters out attributes that have no value. It is possible that the export code does too. The console does not filter them out, and neither does the C SDK or JDK. So what you see is consistent with an attribute that has no value.
I have never tried to add an attribute with no value from client side code, but I am sure it is easy to do in a plugin. Maybe that helps.

VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0
Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute
or value does not exist. The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine. The full text of the error message is below.

Question on Directory corruption
Hello,
I posted last week about my system wide crash on my PM G5. I took it to the Apple store and they diagnosed it as a fried processor. The liquid cooling had also ruptured leaking into the unit. They replaced the processor and I picked up the computer last night. I booted out of my external drive and repaired permissions on my Macintosh HD. I also verified the disk and there were no errors detected. The problem I am having is my spotlight does not seek out the files when rendering the search. For example, I searched for "system profiler" and spotlight did not show the application in its result. When I manualy opened system profiler, then spotlight was able to find it on a subsequent search. This seems to be a consistent thing with alot of program files (it won't find them until I open the file ahead of time). Otherwise, the computer is behaving ok. Does this seem to be a directory corruption of some kind??
What is the BEST way to deal with this?
Should I purchase Disk Warrior and use it. Is that just a quick fix or a permanent one?
Should I back up my data and wipe my hard drive and re-install? I don't want to have to manually reinstall my third party applications one by one. Is there an efficient way around this??

You don't have Disk Warrior?? shame
That and two backups (backups first, DW4 next).
Disk Utility does not find every and all errors or problems.
Add Applejack to your list of tools, too. Deleting the cache files with it improves performance and eliminates some headaches.
I probably would have erased my hard drive and done a restore from cloned backups. I repair a disk first, never bother to verify, and then run "repair" permissions.
The Mac's Finder has a real case of amnesia and deferred updating. Something that TCC can help cure by forcing the Finder to be more pro-active. Faster disk drives, more memory for caching, keeping your drives in good health. -
Drobo failure & Directory corruption
Reporting my experience with a Drobo failure and great support from Alsoft DiskWarrior :
My Drobo failed. Not a hardware failure, but a corruption in the directory that prevented my disk to mount...
According to Drobo support, everything was "ok" on their side.
According to me, I had lost access to almost 3TB of data !
This was the second time a directory corruption happened to me on one of my Drobo (I've never experienced this on any other type of drive in 15 years... but according to Drobo support, it could happen to anyone...) . Therefore I was already equipped with the excellent "DiskWarrior" from Alsoft, which had already saved me once.
I was not so lucky this time : an error in Alsoft prevented the Directory to be rebuilt.
I contacted Alsoft support and I was really impressed by the service ! Marc from Alsoft took the time to remotely connect to my machine and do his magic, manually retrieving, fixing and mounting the corrupted directory. Helping me retrieve almost 2TB of data.
A couple of lessons :
- be paranoid with backups : this Drobo was storing archives of backups... I was anxious to retrieve the data, but nothing bad happened because of this failure.
- don't trust advertising : Drobo would claim that you cannot loose data. I did...
- don't name your files with generic names : when the directory structure is corrupted, and you have to manually retrieve files, you're much better off with "backup_project_20110823.gzip", than with hundreds of "backup.gzip" files and no folder to know what they are !
- when things go bad use DiskWarrior ! The software is great and the service is incredible !
A couple of questions :
- are serious directory corruptions common on non-drobo hard drives ?
- what's the best method to prevent them (hard unplug/power failures being the cause I know about). I am considering re-activating Tech Tool protection - but it's soooo slow.
- what alternatives to drobo would you recommend for archiving data ?I started lots of corruption issues with my Drobo the same day I upgraded to OS X 10.8. See my discussion thread below.

Directory corrupted again & again
I'm having a recurring problem with directories becoming fragmented/corrupted on my old computer.
B&W G3, OS9.2.1, 896ram, 2 HD: 80G & 60G. Processor upgraded to 1GHz (PowerLogix hardware).
Original factory HD has been replaced a few months ago. Slave drive is less than 2 yrs old.
I have been using Disk Warrior to repair directories as they occasionally become fragmented. The alerts from DW, or alerts from the finder are becoming more frequent. Sometimes an app will crash/quit and I'll receive alerts re directory corrupted, or various references to file structures, trees, etc. are damaged. Restart from other volume (partition) or DW cd, run DW & aok.
But why is this occurring so frequently?
Controller card on disk going bad? Not likely, my guess, because another volume on slave drive is sometimes corrupted.
Faster processor causing problem? I was running a 900MHz proc, and had no problems. New processor going bad (early failure)?
My suspicions are system-related files, but which ones?
This is getting out of hand, I'm spending too much valuable time rebuilding directories.
Please help, this has got to stop.

While not claiming to have the definitive answer to your query, there are some observations that I can make.
Your configuration seems to be one that you have chosen for audio or video recording/editing. I sympathize with your desire for a responsive setup for that purpose, but I wonder whether you have pushed the whole just that iota beyond its intrinsic capabilities. My Beige G3 has a 400MHz processor, giving a 12x multiplier of the system bus. It has max. RAM (768MB) and two drives of 6GB and 40GB. It is supported by OS 9.2.2. With Spark 2.6 (wave editor) it is quite comfortable. Because there is another Mac with OS 10.2.8 and Spark 2.82, I push the Beige no further for the moment.
I suggest that you update to OS 9.2.2 to begin with, and go over the specification, quality and match of your RAM. I should also remove it, clean the contacts (along, not across) with a soft pencil eraser, and then blow off the detritus and clean the slots with canned air. You are operating your RAM under pressure (metaphorically speaking), and need to be assured that it can withstand the assault.
Even though the chief virtue of 9.2.x is to work with OS X in Classic Mode, there is also better stability as a standalone from 9.2.2 than from 9.2.1. If the foregoing does not improve matters, then, to the extent possible, revert to the prior state of each recent upgrade, one at a time and in the order most recent to least recent. As a reversion appears to reestablish the stability that you had or wish for, you can consider the upgrade as a potential cause of the present difficulty.
In the interests of a leaner and tighter System, there may also be some virtue in having an alternative configuration in Extensions Manager with the superfluous components disabled during your specialized work. Editing, burning to optical disk and so on are patently of continuing interest, but silly voice management may not be integral to your work, and there are many more potential candidates.

I am trying to write my own java code to validate an input plain text password against the corresponding encoded value as it appears on the Sun One directory server attribute 'userPassword'.
For example the userPassword attribute value might look like this:

Now what does the java code snippet look like that take as input a
plain-text password String and encodes it to see if it matches the
Sun One encoded attribute value??I know that doing an LDAP bind will accomplish the 'logical' equivlant of what I am after but for my application purposes I need to be able to validate the password string with my own code. In fact my problem goes beyond just the {SSHA} style hash I also need to be able to validate the {crypt} style has as well. I have solved the {SHA} style hash validation but the other two hashes are problematic thus far.

The Netscape/NDS AddUser implements inetOrgPerson, and some other objects/Attributes not implemented in Active Directory Object Attributes, and I receive errors about the Attributes. Could you tell me the correct Attribute definition for the default DS, to add a user?
Unsure what you mean. iDS 5 implements the inetOrgPerson as of the RFC. It is made of 4 objects top, person, organizationPerson and inetOrgPerson. The user object in MAD using many more MS specifi attributes in the top class. (53 extras)

Ipod won't sync...files/directory corrupted..
Hello,
I have been trying to sync my Ipod with Itunes and I keep getting an error message that says basically it can't sync because the files or directory has become corrupted and unreadable.
Searching other sites I see some mention of this issue for others, and suggestions that the issue is likely due to files being "locked" in the directory and once "unlocked" the problem goes away.
My issue is I am pretty computer dumb when it comes to locating directories and knowing what to look for and do once I am there. Also, the "fixes" I've read thus far are for folks running a Mac..I have a PC...any fixes for a PC?
Has anyone had experience with this Ipod issue, and can someone please explain to me in step-by-step directions how to get to the directory so I can look for these "locked" files?? Then what to do with them?

MisaHave you connected any new USB devices recently? Has the drive letter of the external drive been changed? Have you checked the external drive for errors? Does the problem persist if you power off the computer, then restart with the iPod & your external drive as the only USB devices?

Report on Active Directory User Attributes in SCCM 2012
I need to output a list of all users in a collection, along with certain user attributes from Active Directory. I can get part of what I need with the following query:
SELECT v_FullCollectionMembership.ResourceID,
v_R_User.Windows_NT_Domain0,
v_R_User.Distinguished_Name0,
v_R_User.Full_User_Name0,

v_R_User.User_Name0

If possible I need to add:
Last logon timestamp
User account status (enabled or disabled)
I have added "lastLogon" and "lastLogonTimestamp" as additional attributesunder Active Directory User Discovery. This discovery method is enabled and I have run a full discovery about a month ago, and again today. I read in
another thread that these attributes should appear in the table v_R_User, however they have not. Is v_R_User the right place to look for this or is there another view or table I can query?
Once I have the above sorted out, how can I find the user account status in SCCM? I have done reports in the past directly from AD and used the 'useraccountcontrol' attribute and I noticed there is a column named 'User_Account_Control0' in v_R_User, however
the values do not match those found in Active Directory.
Thanks.Have you checked the attribute from the Active Directory in decimal format? Check that and compare it to the value ConfigMgr has stored in its 'User_Account_Control0'...
User Account Control tells you multiple things of the account, for example does the account have "Smart card login required" -option checked from the account properties.
The tricky part here is to actually get the report show you what you really want, because "useraccountcontrol" -attribute is a numeric value, you have to calculate what decimal combination means what in readable text.

Application Server Directory file attributes lists
Hi,
I'm searching for Funtion Module or Method to get Application Server Directory file lists with all attributes.
1) FM 'SUBST_GET_FILE_LIST' is not getting midifued date and time.
2) Method CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES-DIRECTORY_LIST_FILES is getting local directory files.
I'm looking for standard way to get all attributes whatever we are seeing in AL11 transaction like Name, Length, Creator and last changed date and time stamp-

The fm SUBST_GET_FILE_LIST is right but you need to convert the date and time by your self, u can use this routine:
PERFORM P6_TO_DATE_TIME_TZ(RSTR0400) USING FILE_LIST-MTIME
FILE_LIST-MOD_TIME
FILE_LIST-MOD_DATE.

Directory corrupted cvfsck crashes
G5 Xsan RAID etc - power failure while deleting some files - when the system came back up it wouldn't mount the Xsan Volume - I tried cvfsk to repair and after a long list of repairable errors it goes into an infinite loop trying to delete a damaged inode:
"Directory entry ... is an orphan. Removed."
then
"Error: Cannot remove lookup .... entry from inode 0x2faddf2324
These two lines repeat until cvfsck runs out of memory and crashes with a bus error
Unfortunately none of the repairs listed to that point get written back to the disk so it's no safe to use.
Help!I have never seen cvfsck do something usefull, when data goes corrupt you're toasted and need to reformat the whole volume!!!

Every time I try to copy files from the library to the iPod it displays the message
"The iPod 'username' cannot be synced.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
The songs, according to iTunes, copy just fine onto the iPod despite this--I click the iPod button in iTunes and it shows the songs on the iPod. I disconnect the iPod and look on there and the songs have disappeared. I plug it back into the computer and even through iTunes it now says the songs are gone.
I've tried all of the 5 R's except Restore, there's too much invested on the thing that I'm willing to wipe it clean, so that's ruled out. Any suggestions short of that?You might want to start pulling out those CDs, I think you need to try a restore.
If you can see your iPod in Windows when you connect it, you can try YamiPod, or other similar third party software and copy your songs back to your computer without using iTunes then do the restore.
Is there a reason you delete your library from your computer? Your current situation shows why this is not a good idea, the iPod is just not a good archive media tool. Not only should you leave the songs on your computer, I will also back them up as computers also fail.
