Disable wrapping of words in static text component inside gridpanel

Hi
I'm using static text components inside gridpanel. Now I noticed that in several cases the text, if consisting of several words, is broken into several lines both in the designer and at runtime.
Question: is there a way to tell a static text component to never wrap the text into several lines?
thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,
Check if the width of the gridpanel has been set. In case the width property has a fixed value then the static text component would wrap the text content to fit the width of the gridpanel.
For example, below are the steps I followed:
1. Drag and drop a gridpanel
2. Drag and drop a staticText onto the gridpanel
3. In the text property of the staticText enter the following sentence "This is a static text in a gridpanel which has only one column"
4. It can be seen that the entire sentence is in one line
5. Now select the gridpanel and click on the ... button next to style property to open up the style dialog
6. Click on Position
7. Under size, set the width to 100 px
8. Click on OK
9. As can been the sentence is now displayed over 5 lines
Hope this helps
Cheers

  • Word processing within a text component

    Although this is a potentially great application, I am at present prevented from using it to create a website due to the lack, as far as I can determine, of any form of processing individual text within the text components e.g. making individual words or word groups bold or italic or giving them COLORS.
    I have large informatory text areas on my pages which need this sort of processing in order to avoid client eyestrain as well as my own.
    Of course one can get around this to some extent by using multiple components but for long texts this quickly becomes very tedious and error prone, especially if one wants to copy from another source.
    The Static Text component, which I presume is meant for this sort of text, in it's present simple form allows word wrap but no line formatting. The basic Text Area component (multiple lines) has no word wrap but does allow line formatting. However when one sets the Read Only property, it seems that any self created line formatting is duly destroyed. This is strangely not the case with the old Standard Mutliline Text Area component.
    I may be missing something but if not I hope that these features may yet be incorporated.
    Regards,
    Dave

    You can use static text to render pure HTML, just set "escape" property to false.
    Note that the HTML text must be well former.
    Regards.

  • Xfa.host.setfocus -- to an object e.g. picture or static text etc?

    I can get the setfocus to target another input field - but can work out how (or if it can) to get it to focus the screen to an image or static text component.
    The path selecton tool in the script panel just stays that impassive red circle
    issue arises as selections from radio group opens largish subform with focus set to it's first field - and given layout radio list is lost out the top of the screen (as it were) so we put in a "made the wrong choice? click here to go back" style of button on the top of each subform -
    as the radio button selection displays the subfields using the radiobuttons as the target does not work (get into an event loop)
    so we need something else to target off the go back - i was hoping the title graphic image or static text but cant work it out
    i though the documentation said focus could do images but i cant get it to,
    thanks for any pointers/code line

    Hi,
    I don't think you can focus on static objects (static text, static images).
    I think the down and dirty workaround is your best option. Maybe make the button very small (0.01in) and you can always place a static image (icon) over it to mask the button.

  • Center text in a text component with line wrapping

    I need to display dynamic text in a text component. I need line wrapping (on work boundaries) and also need horizontal and vertical center alignment.
    How do I do this? I saw a previous post on aligning text in a JTextArea that said to use a JTextPane but I don't see in JTextPane how to do word wrapping.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Wrapping JavaFx Text Component

    I am using Text component to display some text looks like there is no way to automatic wrapping like label component. I only found
    text.setWrappingWidth(double d)
    But this needs a number as a constraint. I have some other component next to the text element whose size is dynamic so I can't give a fixed number to limit the text wrap. Is there any way to automatically wrap if the space is not enough ?
    Note : I am using Text instead of label because it honors \n character for deliberate next line wrapping but it is not possible to go through the whole text file and make sure it has a \n so that it wraps to next line.

    Label also recognizes the \n character.
    import javafx.application.Application;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.scene.control.LabelBuilder;

                +"If there is not enough horizontal space "
                +"this line will wrap.")
            .wrapText(true)
            .build() );

  • How to use formatted text in a static text/laben(or other) component?

    Hello everyone,
    my web application reads a VARCHAR from a SQL Server database which is bound to a static text/label component. The problem is that I don't manage to include line breaks this way.
    Is there any way to do it? It doesn't have to be using a static text or label component, I just want to display formatted text on a web page which was read from a database.
    Thank you very much for your help,
    Arthur

    unfortunately it doesn't work this way(or I am doing it wrong as I don't know anything about css)
    If I set white-space: nowrap the text is displayed in one single line ( so probably I implemented it the right way)
    but with white-space:pre he still ignores all the whitespaces!
    reading the same text (from a microsoft sql server table)with a textarea component all whitespaces and line breaks are shown! there has to be a way to make the static text or label component act this way(I don't want to use the textarea component because it's ugly and doesn't serve for my purpose).
    can anybody help me?
    edit: observation:
    if I use "nowrap" for the textarea component he still keeps all whitespaces WITHIN the string but displays the whole string in one line
    but somehow he deletes white spaces in the beginning of the string
    the static text/label components delete all whitespaces before AND within the string

  • Feature Request: Option to wrap static text.

    It would be really nice (in fact, demanded by my current client) to be able to have multi-line static text that appears as a paragraph. Unfortunately, static text is one-line and either stretches out the width of the entire dialog box if you let it or is truncated if you don't.
    Present work-around is to force line-breaks, but that makes for some funny looking alignment, which may not be so "funny" when you see it on the "other" platform...
    Thanks,
    Rob

    I faced the same issue today.  I discovered the "wrap" property applies to static_texts as well as edit_fields.   It doesn't appear to be documented at all in the SDK API Reference, while it is documented in the SDK Programmers Guide as applying to edit_fields but not static_texts.  Here's a test program illustrating its use:
    local LrDialogs = import 'LrDialogs'
    local LrFunctionContext = import 'LrFunctionContext'
    local LrView = import 'LrView'
    local f = LrView.osFactory()
    local text = [=[Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed feugiat quam nec mauris auctor dignissim eu sit amet sapien. Nullam scelerisque lacus libero. Donec iaculis lacinia viverra. Nulla suscipit viverra condimentum. Nam id diam metus, non ullamcorper justo. Curabitur mollis urna sed ligula molestie ullamcorper convallis nisl adipiscing. Suspendisse blandit lobortis risus non laoreet. Proin dictum, nulla a varius faucibus, enim elit pharetra tortor, a commodo mi nulla et leo. Cras in varius odio. Donec erat neque, bibendum at elementum sit amet, tincidunt a nunc. Donec tincidunt aliquet libero non vulputate. Proin eget nibh ante. Curabitur tincidunt felis quis turpis.]=]
    LrFunctionContext.callWithContext ("test", function (context)
        text = string.gsub (text, "%c", " ")
        LrDialogs.presentModalDialog {title = "Test", contents = f:column {
            f:edit_field {value = text, wrap = true, width_in_chars = 40,
                height_in_lines = 10, enabled = false},
            f:static_text {title = text, wrap = true, width_in_chars = 40,
                height_in_lines = 10}}}
        end)

  • pre div style="word-wrap:break-word" long text /div /pre doesn't force wrap

    <pre><div style="word-wrap:break-word">long text</div></pre> works in IE9 but not FireFox 31. Actual returns do wrap text but the text of long paragraphs extends outside the <div>, despite the word-wrap:break-word style. Maybe I'm expecting too much interpretation from <pre>? But I am thinking if IE can handle this, perhaps FireFox could too?

  • How to create a text Component With Certain Properties

    I need to create a text component with the following properties:
    Has Capability to be italic, right/left aligned, have different background / foreground colors, and most importantly, the ability to have a fixed width and a height that is set by the amount of text in it (ie line wrapping expands the field vertically).
    It should be a simple exercise, but I cannot seem to figure out how to do it.

    Here is the correct syntax :
    private static JEditorPane constructPane(String text, int normWidth, int normHeight, boolean rightAlign, boolean italic,boolean isWhite) {
              JEditorPane pane = new JEditorPane();
              pane.setEditable(false);
              pane.setContentType("text/html");
              pane.setText(
                   "<html><head></head><body>"
                   + (italic?"<i>":"")
                   + "<table><COLGROUP><COL width=\""+normWidth+"\"><THREAD><tr><td valign=\"top\" align="+(rightAlign?"\"right\"":"\"left\"")+">"
                   + text+"</td></tr></table>"
                   + (italic?"</i>":"")
                   + "</body></html>");
              pane.setSize(normWidth,normHeight);
              if(isWhite)
                   pane.setBorder(BorderFactory.createCompoundBorder(BorderFactory.createMatteBorder(1,0,1,0,Color.WHITE),BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(0,1,0,1)));

              else {
                   pane.setBorder(BorderFactory.createCompoundBorder(BorderFactory.createMatteBorder(1,0,1,0,Color.BLACK),BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(0,1,0,1)));
                   pane.setForeground(Color.BLACK);
              return pane;
         }

  • Static text | variable | static text

    i'm thinking i need a simple actionscript to do this but i'm
    not exactly sure. i have a dynamic text field that is loading a
    variable named count. however i would like to place static text on
    either side of the value of the variable. since the variable is an
    integer that will only increase, it's horizontal width will also
    increase as well. i can't very well place two strings of static
    text on either side of a variable that will grow in width over
    time. does that make sense?
    essentially, i want to have a dynamic text box display a
    string of text, then the value of a variable (that will change in
    length), then another string of text, but i would like it to all be
    seamless, looking as if i just typed the whole sentence in a word
    processor. thanks for your time!

    let say you have a dynamic text field with instance name
    my_txt
    when you want to increase the value, you run my_txt.text++;
    when you want to decrease the value, you run my_txt.text--;
    now, convert the dynamic text field to a movieclip symbol,
    set the instance name my_mc
    now, to set the value of text, we should use
    my_mc.my_txt.text++;
    but we are not going to set the value in this way.
    now, go into my_mc movieclip, select the 1st frame, attach
    script:
    var actualValue:Number = Number(this.my_txt.text);
    var displayValue:String = "";
    function setValue(d) {
    actualValue += d;
    displayValue = "something"+actualValue+"something";
    my_txt.text = displayValue;
    setValue(0);
    go back to your maim timeline. and now,
    when you want to increase the value, use my_mc.setValue(1);
    when you want to increase the value, use my_mc.setValue(-1);

  • Formatting HTML Text in Text component

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to render some Html text in a text component, I'm
    getting the HTML from within an xml document as such:
    <xml><htext><p><b>Testing HTML
    Text</b></p><p>Here's another
    line.</p></htext></xml>
    If I put that into a Text component with the htmlText=htext
    property, the line spacing is as expected, but it seems to add in a
    blank space character for every character of the html code. (E.g.
    "<b>Testing" adds 3 extra spaces before the word "Testing").
    Renders like (using - as space character):
    Testing HTML Text
    -Here's another line.
    If I use the condeseWhite=true property on the Text
    component, it fixes the extra space characters issue, but then
    stuffs the line spacing up, so <p> becomes rendered like a
    <br>.
    Renders like:
    Testing HTML Text
    Here's another line.
    Any thoughts, or help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.
    Oz
    P.S I was trying to avoid the obvious "br" tag which will
    make it work and render correctly....
    <p><b>Testing HTML Text</b></p>
    <br/><p>Here's another line.</p>

    no. use css.

  • Howto add static text in xsl stylesheet

    Hi,
    I'am having problems trying to write a static text to a fixed length file using the file adapter.
    I'am using the FlatStructure sample provided.
    When I run the sample, there's no problem... But when I remove the mapping from tns:State <-> fix:State (in addr1Toaddr2.xsl) and change the fix:State to a static text (Set Text option in right mouse popup menu) then this text will NOT show up in the written fixed length file.

    I am assuming you are using Oracle JDeveloper XSL Mapper for designing the XSL. Currently , our XSL Mapper has a limitation due to that whenever you add any static text to target node in mapper, it adds an extra "\n" with that static text. And so our Native format translator doesn't find the definition for that and that's why it doesn't get printed in the file.
    Workaround [although little painful] is remove those extra "\n" after you finish your XSL design.
    We are working to fix this issue asap.
    HTH.
    Thanks,
    Rakesh

  • Line highlighting in Text Component

    I'm trying to figure out how to apply a colored background to certain lines of a text component. This is common, for instance, in a lot of editors, especially IDE's (notably, Eclipse), where the currently selected line has a separate background color from the rest of the page. I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how to use Elements and Views and EditorKits and all that, and I'm not even sure if that will solve the problem. All I've been able to do so far is put a colored background behind individual characters; but then it stops at the end of the line, instead of continuing for the width of the text component.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I assumed you were using the built-in Highlighter classes to do the coloring. If you aren't, you're doing a lot more work than you need to. Here's what I use:import java.awt.Color;
    import javax.swing.event.ChangeEvent;
    import javax.swing.event.ChangeListener;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    * Usage: new CurrentLineHighlighter(myColor).install(myTextComponent);
    public class CurrentLineHighlighter implements ChangeListener
      static final Color DEFAULT_COLOR = new Color(0, 0, 0, 15);
      private Highlighter.HighlightPainter painter;
      private Object highlight;
      private JTextComponent comp;
      public CurrentLineHighlighter()
        this(null);
      public CurrentLineHighlighter(Color highlightColor)
        Color c = highlightColor != null ? highlightColor : DEFAULT_COLOR;
        painter = new DefaultHighlighter.DefaultHighlightPainter(c);
      public void install(JTextComponent tc)
        comp = tc;
        comp.getCaret().addChangeListener(this);
      public void stateChanged(ChangeEvent evt)
        if (highlight != null)
          comp.getHighlighter().removeHighlight(highlight);
          highlight = null;
        int pos = comp.getCaretPosition();
        Element elem = Utilities.getParagraphElement(comp, pos);
        int start = elem.getStartOffset();
        int end = elem.getEndOffset();
        try
          highlight = comp.getHighlighter().addHighlight(start, end, painter);
        catch (BadLocationException ex)
          ex.printStackTrace();
    }
