Disabling slow windows and between apps. animations

I know this topic was discussed already but I think there's no clear point yet -
I’m using Mac Book Pro for software development and quite often need to maximise windows and switch between maximised applications. The delays of maximising and sliding animation is really annoying - has anyone actually tried to disabled it on Maverick?
I’ve tried to use different terminal scripts but they all don’t seem to help. TotalSpaces can disable switching between apps but not maximise and its not free - any ideas?

I agree. Finder is all wacky in Mavericks "House of Bugs" - , 3 solutions i know of depending on earth - moon alignment - weather - and what ever mood your mac is in.
1- use onyx to clean out cache, saved application etc and so on. it helps
2- if your boot drive has lots of folders and files within folders ... deep, try slimming it down, .. avoid going 4-5-6 levels deep with lots of files. That was confirmed by an ex-apple engineer using new 2013 mac pro .
3- delete Flash and re install it.
Oh, maybe peek into System Preferences and turn off items in "Accessibility" - not sure on this, but i know it can cause issues.

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

How do I remove/disable the Windows 8 Mail App

How can I remove the Windows 8 Mail App from my computer? I am unable to select another mail provider and I absolutely do not want to get my Passport aka Windows Live ID involved with my mail under any conditions whatsoever.
I have a vbs script that installed another mail provider in IE9 but it doesn't seem to work with Windows 8/IE 11. I want this mail application off my machine entirely.
How do I accomplish that?

iPhone apps don't work on Macs and Mac apps don't run on iOS devices like an iPhone. If you sync an iPhone to a Mac, the apps from the iPhone are stored in the Mac's iTunes app's media library as a backup.
The App Store app on a Mac is not the same as the App Store app on the iPhone. The Mac version is the Mac App Store, apps for Macs. The iPhone version is the iTunes App Store, apps for iOS devices.

The report shows you don't have enough RAM required to run all of the apps you run at the same time. Yosemite takes way more RAM than what OS X used to take.
To solve the problem do either one of these:
restart your mac from time to time (every night for ex).
Use less apps at the same time.
upgrade to 8GB of RAM if your Mac allows it

Windows 8.1 settings window and other apps automatically minimize/cannot be selected.

Whenever I try and change my settings by going through the usual charms menu-> Change PC Settings, the instant the settings window comes up it disappears. I try bringing it up from the taskbar and the same thing happens: it seems to maximize then just disappears. I can't switch to it, only close it. This applies to any app in Windows including Sports, News, etc.

This is the command you should try to enter

$EnvystemRoot\ImmersiveControlPanel\AppxManifest.xm
The restore point was safety precaution, so it something when wrong you would have a good restore point to return to. As you have one that was before the issue started, I would keep and use that one.
Here is a link to a Window.microsoft.com answer to assist you. Cannot use Windows 8 apps or get to PC Settings!
If the issue remains, I would do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8). This will reinstall the original OS.
Now try doing your update again.

Miniatured Window and Screen app

You know the "Expose Show All Windows" command, where it zooms out and displays all the windows in miniature?? Is there an app (likely 3rd party) that allows you to keep that and actually do work in each of those windows while they're miniaturized??
i have a problem with multiple windows stacked on top of each other because they're "too big" LOL.
Note: I've already experienced with Spaces and screen resolutions, and those don't help. thanks!!
Just a luxury not actual problem. work would be easier with smaller windows.

There are some window management utilities around. Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. I don't know if you will find exactly what you want, but you can check them out.

Slow scrolling and some other animations in Gnome 3 using Nvidia

Hello, arch community! I have one annoying problem: In gnome 3 (3.12.1) I have a intermittent animations of trivially actions, especially scrolling web pages in firefox (looks like it have 15-20 fps) and moving windows on screen. In Openbox, for example, this problem is absent (And in Windows 7 too xD). The most strange is that the appearance of this effect looks randomly - when I start browser, all are going normal for few minutes, for example. I think my hardware is too powerfull to use gnome 3: Intel Core i5 3.4Ghz, 8Gb RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTX660Ti (proprietary driver 337.25). CPU and RAM usage doesn't seems to be very large. Could you help me to unserstand and solve this problem? And sorry for my English if I made many mistakes - It isn't my native language. Thank you for your advices!

This looks like the well-known repaint bug with nVidia 334.x drivers (and later) on GNOME.

I downloaded Yahoo toolbar and only thing that shows up in the browser is a Search window and Mail app (no Settings button so can't add apps to the toolb)--why?

I have uninstalled and re-installed toolbar and restarted browser AND pc & still have the problem. I also used my CCleaner and Registry Cleaner between uninstalling and re-installation. This problem happened after I upgraded to Firefox 36.0 Beta.

The idea that users don't need to access their Library folder is preposterous if they own the computer. When trying fix an issue, for example fully remove Firefox, or any number of things, why add a step? This is tantamount to if Apple had hidden the Extensions Manager (not saying they DID, but if they HAD). Why hide the Library? Why hide /etc? The more people learn about their systems, the less problems in the long run. Not that I'm trying to put myself out of work, bless their lazy, black little hearts, users keep me on the gravy train, however the number of issues avoided would out weigh the potential issues.
Regardless, my apologies to the original poster for the threadjack, the image above is useless. Chmod as linked seems to work just fine, though it won't get rid of that idiotic "do you want to open everything again on reboot" check box.

I did run across in my searching another way to disable by creating a txt file (userChrome.ccs) with this code, minus the first sentence: (Open the file on any text editor. Copy and paste the following lines after @namespace

I need to try it on my mac before I implement it on other macs and the pcs. The directory placement area was a little vag so I tried it here.
I placed the file in: HD/Users/{me}/Library/Application Support/Firefox/chrome
restarted firefox. Did not work.
Does any one know if the above into is correct and if I placed it in the correct area on the mac?

How Do I Change the Language of Start Menu and Modern Apps After I Installed Windows? Applying Language Pack only Localizes Traditional Applications?

I installed Windows 10 Technical Preview with original language settings for the US region.
No that I need my Windows localized to Espanol - Spanish.
I type "language' in Cortana, select Add language to this device and click Add a language on the Region & language.
Then I select added language and click Set as primary.
After the restart I see that while Windows Explorer is displayed in Spanish, Start menu is displayed in English (including app sections such as Explore Windows), as well as Modern apps that have retained their English names (such as Mail).
I even set the location to Spain in regional settings (although I didn't like the idea, as I want to browse the US market). To no avail.
How do I change the language of the Start menu and modern apps?

Okay, I ran the in-place upgrade and it worked!
What I did:
1. Downloaded and attached Espanol edition of Windows Setup ISO.
2. Started setup.exe from that ISO.
TIP: If need be, you can downgrade your installation of Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview to Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview by changing two registry values, EditionID and ProductName. You may use the following registry file on Windows 10 Enterprise
Technical Preview:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Cinnamon - slow windows snapping

I've been using cinnamon on Arch for a long time, but yesterday I decided to install Mint on another partition. What I found out is that on Mint windows move smoothly when aproaching the edge of the screen but on Arch they extremely slow down and the edge animation is laggy. I've noticed it before but I thought that's my hardware fault (it's old). Can anyone tell what is the reason for this behavior?
Right now I'm using the newest cinnamon version on Arch (don't know what version is on Mint, but the problem occured on arch even with older versions) and nouveau drivers on both systems.

I have installed the latest driver for my network interface (in beta phase since 2009, but hey...), scanned my system and updated my firewall to the latest version. I even unplugged the freaking patchcord, but none of these steps helped.
Gonna try to disconnect router from Internet later when it's not in use.
UPDATE: Disconnecting router from the Internet did not help. I'm going to try and plug my PC to the modem directly later and see what happens.
UPDATE: It seems I'm on the right track. After connecting PC directly to the ISP modem the shutdown speed remained unaffected, but just for the first time. Every other shutdown and reboot have been executed three times faster! I think there might be a problem
with default gateway's MAC address, since that's one of the things that changes when switching networks. I'm going to change my router's MAC add. as soon as I get a green light from my ISP.
UPDATE: This is weird. After plugging the PC directly to my ISP modem Windows doesn't ask me whether it's a private or public network; it thinks it's my brother's network. How is this possible? We use different ISPs in different parts of the country.
FIXED. I removed a bunch of programs I haven't used for a while to free some space on C: Ventrilo and Teamspeak clients, CCleaner, Echolink, WOL Magic Packet Sender, Cobian Backup and a few others I can't remember. The problem went away.
I'm not sure which one of these applications was causing the problem but I think it might has been this old version of Cobian Backup.
PC turns itself off within 14 seconds now.

Disable command-tab and/or kill dock

Hello,
Is there a clever terminal command or a simple hack that will disable command-tab switching between apps? If not, can I kill the dock completely to regain the ability to use command-tab in QuarkXPress?
This keyboard shortcut conflict is driving me nuts trying to stay productive in Quark. The PullTab haxie is not Leo-friendly yet, so I need a solution ASAP.
