Disassembling an ultra sound DICOM clip.

Hello everyone,
Recently some peers and I have begun a project which required the acquisition and manipulation of DICOM images from a 2D ultrasound. Our goal is to efficiently break up and sort the various clips received from the ultrasound module into distinct images. Then, save them onto proper median for further processing.
Within our group we have moderate LabVIEW experience but only have a very vague idea of how to complete this project. I’ve done some reading on the DICOM medical image standard but not entirely sure what the best way to implement a functioning system within the LabVIEW developing environment. I am aware LabVIEW has no native support for DICOM images, and this seems to be the biggest obstacle. Does anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to handle these images within the LabVIEW environment.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Zhijun Gu,
Thanks for the information. The link provided me with a lot of insight on biomedical systems. Unfortunately I don't believe it relates to my project.
I'm sorry. I believe you misunderstood my question, probably my fault I was a bit vague. Fortunately though, I have manage to get the resources to acquired the ultrasound clips onto a SD card in a DICOM video format. The problem is how would a system programmatically dissect this video into still frames. My project required that I somehow save these independent DICOM frames to another median for further processing. If anyone has any experience in this field any suggestions would be of great value.
Thanks,

  • How do I relink audio and sound mxf clips brought into Premiere CC. (works fine in CS5.5)

    How do I relink audio and sound mxf clips brought into Premiere CC.  Didn't have this problem in CS5.5 so unsure why they unlink in CC.

    I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • How do i extend a sound-effect clip???

    Just wanted to find out how can i extend the durarion of a sound-effect clip that i imported into F.C.P. The clip can't extend past 10 sec, so I thought the best way to do it is to loop it but i don't know how.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks.

    I have already done that. I put several duplicates of the same clip in a row, but there's a clear break between each clip. For example, the sound-effect clip is rain; so if i copy, paste it and put it after the original you can hear the break between the clips.
    There's a way to fix that, i know, by putting audio cross fades between each clip, which works, but as you can tell is a hassle.
    I just thought there's was a much easier and faster way of looping the short clip so that you can constantly hear it (without any breaks) for a longer period of time.

  • Layering sounds = volume clips. A simple way to normalize the sounds?

    I am wondering if there is some way to "normalize" the sounds automatically if I am layering a sound. For example:
    Patch 1: a single piano (0db)
    Patch 2: a single piano layered with strings(+3db)
    Patch 3: a single piano layered with strings and pad(+6db)
    The problem is that the second or third patch is way louder than the first. I'm playing live in a band and it is very annoying to correct the main-output volume every time we play the second or third patch.
    If I layer more sounds to it it obviously gets even more saturated and finally the audio even clips. Do you have to change the volumes(gain?) every time on each channel strip (by fader) if you layer (add) more channelstrips to it or do you change the output of the AU-instrument itself on the second or third channelstrip?

    Jilles wrote:
    Thanks! Yes indeed the sounds that I add or layer with the first sound each has its own channel-strip.
    Q1: So is it the best to leave each fader of each channelstrip at 0db? (Is this the gain?)
    Each fader is a volume, or gain, control. Adjust these faders to get the correct balance between the channel strips. Once this has been done, you should not need to adjust this again.
    Q2: Do you ever change the volume settings of the AU-instruments itself?
    It depends on the type of music I am performing. If I am playing electronic music, I make adjustments all the time. I use my MIDI controller or the MIDI volume control from my guitar to change volumes. Also, I use my MIDI controller to change various settings on my synths; anything from wave shape to resonance, cut-off, ASDR etc.
    Q3: The main volume of the mac, do you put it at 100%?
    I start with the output volume set to silence and raise the volume to suit the venue. This could be anything between -18dB & +3dB. Usually, my out volume is set between -10dB & 0dB.
    Remember, if you add extra instruments to your initial keyboard sound, you will increase the overall volume of that patch. If you wish to maintain the same output level for all the patches, you will have to lower the volumes of all the instruments in the patch by a small amount, probably 1.5 - 2.0 dB on each channel strip.
    Once this has been done, you should not need to change any volumes when you change patches. You will have to spend some time getting the balance right. It will help the sound if each channel strip is panned to one side or the other. e.g. keyboard 0; strings -10; pad +10. The audience will hear each instrument more clearly that way, thus making them sound louder in the mix.
    There are many solutions to your problem. I have given you a few that I have used successfully in the past.
    Good luck.

  • Sound on clips gets deleted after quiting FCP X, why?

    Sound on some clips I imported from my GoPro gets deleted after I have quit the program and go back to it.  However, in the FCP X events folder, the original media still has the sound in the clip.  I do not understand why this is happening.
    Does anybody have any advice?

    One slight point about Patrick's info.
    Since version 10.0.3, FCP X has been able to edit multicam and most people agree that it does so in a far superior and easy way.
    I would also suggest that as a beginner you completely ignore the "Help" menu as it can be very confusing.
    Instead download these 2 hours of FREE video tutorials and you will see and learn exactly how to use FCP X in no time at all:-
    http://www.izzyvideo.com/final-cut-pro-x-tutorial/
    Finally do not spend a penny on FCP X until you are sure it is right for you.
    You can achieve this by downloading the FREE 30 DAY TRIAL:-
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/trial/
    So within 30 minutes of reading this post you could have FCP X sitting on your desktop and be starting to edit with it  .  .  .  and all without spending a penny!
    P.S. If you already have FCP 7 & and it does what you want, you should stick with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • No sound in clip

    Hello everyone,
    Im having a problem with my imovie 11.  Ive been trying to import movies from my camera, after I import the video and check it there is no sound from the clip.  Can someone pleae help me with this issue?

    Hi
    There are a zillion of different Video-Codecs out there. You are probably using one iMovie can not use as is.
    In need of conversion first.
    .m4v, .mp4, avi, .mov, .wmv etc are no Codecs - they are Containers and can hold about anything - good or bad. So using QuickTime to see the codec is one way that works.
    • Open Your clip with QuickTime
    • then open Inspector [cmd+I]
    read
    Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnnnn - and -
    Frame Rates (fps) : yyyyyyy
    What does it say ?

  • Sound ok clip too short

    I am capturing from my Sony Z1 component to DVCPRO HD. The problem is that I set the capture for 01:15:00:02 and when I view the clip it only has 01:12:18:00 (don't remember exact numbers). The sound seems to be ok but the clip is slightly short. Can you tell me which setting to change? This may be a Final Cut Pro question rather than an AJA.
    I am capturing using AJA DVCPRO HD 1080i 29.97. Is this the right setting?
    Should I capture as drop frame or non drop frame?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Best practices for using javax.sound.sampled.Clip?

    I've got a very simple Swing-based puzzle game. When the user performs certain actions, I want to play a trivial little sound. So far, I'm using the Java Sound API (javax.sound.sampled). When the actionPerformed method is called, my model is updated, which triggers an event in the same thread, and one of the listeners, plays a sound like this:
    this.clip.setFramePosition(0);
    this.clip.start()The clip had been previously initialized like this:
              InputStream in = null;
              AudioInputStream ain = null;
              Clip tempClip = null;
              try {
                   in = BubblePopSound.class.getResourceAsStream("pop2.wav");
                   ain = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(in);
                   try {
                        DataLine.Info info = new DataLine.Info(Clip.class, ain
                                  .getFormat());
                        tempClip = (Clip) AudioSystem.getLine(info);
                        tempClip.open(ain);
                   finally {
                        ain.close();
              catch(UnsupportedAudioFileException uafe) {
                   // TODO Log that sound own't be played
              catch(LineUnavailableException lue) {
                   // TODO Log that sound own't be played
              catch(IOException ioe) {
                   throw new RuntimeException("IOException reading sound clip", ioe);
              finally {
                   if(ain != null) try {
                        ain.close();
                   catch(IOException ioe) {}
                   if(in != null) try {
                        in.close();
                   catch(IOException ioe) {}
              this.clip = tempClip;So my goal was to load the clip once, and be able to trigger the playing of it repeatedly. Hoever, it only works intermittently. Reading through the http://www.jsresources.org site, the Java Sound homepage, forums, etc. I feel like I don't truly understand the best way to play simple audio clips like this. These questions are still lingering:
    - When I call clip.start(), does it play in the current thread, or am I triggering something to start the playing independent of the thread?
    - Do I need to call stop explicitly?
    - What if the user triggers the sound again before it has finished playing?
    - Do I need to close the clip with the playing has stopped, or is it ok to keep it "open" so its ready to play again and again?
    - If I can keep it open, do I need to worry about cleaning it up later?

    If your sound file is < 1 second long and you are using the JDK/JRE 1.5.0 (pre _02 update I think) then the sound code is bugged and is likely the cause of the sound problem. Try updating your JRE/JDK to 1.5.0_03 and try the sound again. If that's not it I can't help.
    - When I call clip.start(), does it play in the current thread, or am I triggering something to start the playing independent of the thread?Not quite sure, but it doesn't seem to be interrupted when I start playing a sound and sleep the thread. It might buffer the sound data in the sound card or it might use a different thread. (Interesting to know if someone has that knowledge...)
    - Do I need to call stop explicitly?No.
    - What if the user triggers the sound again before it has finished playing?It should play the new sound as well (but when many are going some might be cut off. It functions adequately for my game (check out Javoids on sourceforge -- need latest JRE or JDK).
    - Do I need to close the clip with the playing has stopped, or is it ok to keep it "open" so its ready to play again and again?Don't bother. Use this instead "clip.setFramePosition(0);"
    - If I can keep it open, do I need to worry about cleaning it up later?Java is garbage collected so you rarely have to be worried about that. No.

  • Sound in clip is gone. Why?

    I made my demo reel and all of a sudden in one of the clips you can barely hear the sound. All of the other clips are fine except this one. When I try to import the same clip from my dv camera into a new imovie project you cant hear the dialogue. But you can hear the dialogue on the camera. What can I do?

    This code was written (rather belatedly) in response to a question in [Example: Code to generate audio tone|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5243872]. Due to it's age, it has been locked.
    The replier wanted to know how to use JavaSound for a Morse code key. Actually now I think about it, the sound loops nicely, but it still demonstrates a slight click at start and stop. I tried using Clip.loop(0) to stop the sound, but that did not avoid the 'click'! I suppose you would need to do as the person was musing, and adjust the GAIN of the Clip up and down.
    In any case - questions.
    - Can anyone make this work for key presses? The first thing you'd need to do is a find on "TODO" and comment out the line that ensures the Code Key is not focusable (and then add a KeyListener(1)). The problem I encountered was that the KeyEvents were getting fired continuously, which caused the sound to 'stutter'. A Timer to ignore quickly repeated keys might work (though I could not make it work for me), but then that would introduce a lag between when whe key was released, and when the sound stopped. It would need to be a very short delay, to use it much in the way the mouse click currently works.
    - Any ideas on improvements to the basic code? (1) (I will be adding the ability to configure the parameters of the applet - more code lines. Possibly also converting the GAIN control from the mostly useless logarithmic ..whatever scale it uses, to linear.)
    1) Note that I had to use single spaces to indent - everything else blew the posting limit(2).
    2) Hence also, questions on 2nd post. ;)
    To compile and run as an applet/application (in a recent SDK).
