Disconnect Application Module Upon Release and LOV NPE

Environment
Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4.0
Jheadstart Release 11.1.1.4.26
There seems to be some sort of incompatibility with some LOVs when I enable Disconnect Application Module Upon Release.
I have an LOV based on an updatable VO with a bind parameter.
When I first log on the application an try to use the LOV I get a NPE when I select the row from the LOV popup and press OK.
If I navigate to another page and return the LOV starts working correctly
The NPE occurs in line
keyList.add(getIterBinding().getCurrentRow().getKey());
of LovItemBean
getIterBinding().getCurrentRow() is null it this case.
Do you have any hints?
public void copyReturnValues(Map selectedRowData, Row baseRow, boolean copyToUI, boolean commaSeparated)
// first clear any dependent items, if they exist
if (getTableBean() != null)
List keyList = new ArrayList();
keyList.add(getIterBinding().getCurrentRow().getKey());
getTableBean().getTable().setRowKey(keyList);

I was using Disconnect Application Module Upon Release to overcome an issue I had with multiple duplicated rows being generated in a table under certain circumstances.
What I had is a button which reads the rows of a table and creates new rows in another table (other viewobject) which have a foreign key to the rows of the first table.
If I issue multiple requests on the first table (5rows) by clicking different rows very fast and at the same time I press the button to create new rows to the second table the results are undefined. Instead of getting 5 new rows I get 10 or even 15 or 20. I don't know if this is a bug or if I am doing something wrong but I managed to overcome this by using the Entity RowSet instead of the ViewObject RowSet.
so now I am not using Disconnect Application Module Upon Release any more.

  • Disconnect Application Module Upon Release app module configuration.

    Hi,
    I read in one article that using that "*Disconnect Application Module Upon Release*" in App module configuration is strongly not recommended (http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2010/02/optimizing-oracle-adf-application-pool.html).
    Can anyone pls let me know if there are any other problems apart from this (https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9873898#9873898) LOV issue.

  • (IMP)application module and DB connection issue

    Hi,
    In my BC4J application, Application module is not releasing DB connection after the execution of the JSP page. It usually takes approx 3500-4000sec. to release it. On what parameters this time is dependent??
    I am using data-source to connect to DB. Application Module configurations parameters are set with default values.
    If i select "Disconnect Application Module Upon Release" from the configuration of Application module, it releases DBconnection at the end of http Request. Is it a proper solution to the issue ? any performance related issues with it?
    My JSP code's basic structure is
    try
    <jbo:ApplicationModule id="<AM ID>" definition="<Fully qualified AM classname>" releasemode="Stateless/stateFul" />
    // application code
    catch(Exception e)
    // Code to take necessary action if exception occurs
    finally
    <jbo:ReleasePageResources appid="<AM ID>" releasemode="Stateless/StateFul"/>
    Please guide me on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Devang

    Hi john,
    Thanks for your reply... in other way can i restrict the number of connections created for the application module By selecting the Disconnect Application Module Upon Release in application module configuration.
    If i select that check box in Appmodule-->configurations->Edit->Pooling and Scalability means, while loading my screen number of connections are increased after completion of loading a screen immediatly connections also got reduced. if i select this check box whether it will give any other problems.
    Here am using the uishell dynamic tab after opening more number of tabs am getting connection pool error.not allways.. thats why am trying to restrict the no.of connections opening.
    please can you provide some info regarding this

  • BUG?  Application Module State Management

    I have 2 read-only view objects VO1 & VO2 with a View Link that links them by a primary key field. VO1 (master) is on the first .jspx page and VO2 (detail) is on the 2nd .jspx page. VO1 has a SQL query, but is populated programmatically in an App Module Service method that sets the where clause parameters. VO2 is on a separate .jspx page. VO2 has one bind variable in its SQL query that is populated when the user clicks a commandLink on a row within VO1 - this takes the user to the 2nd .jspx page to view VO2 table results.
    The issue is that when the user navigates back to the first .jspx page containing VO1, a duplicate row is added to the end the data table (or as the first record on the second page of results if there are multiple pages.) If I re-query VO1, re-sort the data using the column headings, or passivate the data (see below), the duplicate row goes away. Note I have tried using the same iterator on both pages and this same issue occurs.
    Ok - after 5 days of troubleshooting, here is the potential bug. If Application Pooling is enabled on the Application Module, I experience the issue above. If I don't enale Application Pooling, and Passivate state for the App Module, this issue does not occur (see below):
    Application Module Settings - Error Occurs if Pooling is enabled
    (unchecked) Failover Transaction State Upon Managed Release
    (unchecked) Disconnect Application Module Upon Release
    (checked) Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials
    (checked) Reset Non-Transcational State Upon Unmanaged Release
    (checked) Enable Application Module Pooing
    If I un-check Enable Application Module Pooling the error does NOT occur. Note I've experimented with many combinations, and its only the Application Module Pooling that affects the behavior.
    Note both view objects are set to Passivate state (but not for transient values, though tested passivating those as well and there was no difference.)
    Can someone please advise? This is a showstopper for implementing our application to production. See the threads below for more information. Finally note that I have not yet been able to replicate this in a simple test case, but there is some specific characteristics about my current application causing this behavior (and it appears others have experienced as well.)
    Duplicate rows displayed in list
    Need help  - Duplicate Rows being added to View Object?
    Thanks.
    Here is the code on the AM service method to populate the rows for VO1 (no insert or create rows - only executing the query):
    ViewObject vo1 = findViewObject("VO1");
    vo1.setMaxFetchSize(250); // set max fetch size 250
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(0, x0);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(1, x1);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(2, x2);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(3, x3);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(4, x4);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(5, x5);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(6, x6);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(7, x7);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(8, x8);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(9, x9);
    vo1.setWhereClauseParam(10, x10);
    vo1.executeQuery();

    More information on this issue:
    After further testing, I discovered that the 'Disconnect Application Module Upon Release' also plays a factor with this issue.
    If 'Enable Application Module Pooling' is unchecked the issue does not occur because the view object is passivated.
    If 'Enable Application Module Pooling' is checked (jbo.ampool.doampooling=true), then the issue occurs UNLESS I also set 'Disconnect Application Module Upon Release' (jbo.doconnnectionpooling=true). If I set the latter to true, then I do not experience the duplicate row issue. I would rather not have to enable jbo.doconnectionpooling=true because of the performance impacts as recommended in the dev guide. Any Suggestions?
    -- updated on 10/1/06 ----
    Setting jbo.doconnectionpooling=true only fixes this issue when I use a ViewLink as the mechanism to pass the row Id from VO1 (master on .jspx page #1) to VO2 (detail on page #2.) If I use an actionListener to pass the value from page #1 to page #2, setting jbo.doconnectionpooling=true does not fix the issue.
    <af:commandLink actionListener="#{bindings.setCurrentRowWithKey.execute}"
    action="page2" text="#{row.Name}">
    <af:setActionListener from="#{row.Id}" to="#{backing_bean_page2.rowid}"/>
    </af:commandLink>

  • Database sessions, Application Modules and Pools

    Hi,
    I have an ADF 10.1.3 application (ADF Faces on ADF BC) that uses JAAS to authenticate it's users. After the user has logged in I would like my session_user_info managed bean to query the database and retrieve all the user's details, for access throughout the user's session. Initially I wrote the following code to achieve this:
          ApplicationModule am = Configuration.createRootApplicationModule(applicationModuleName, applicationConfigName);
          ViewObject vo = am.findViewObject("CurrentUserView1") ;
          vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("v_userName",userName);
          vo.executeQuery();
          if(vo.getRowCount() <= 0)
            user = null ;
          else
            user = (CurrentUserViewRowImpl) vo.first();
          Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule(am, true); This works fine BUT because it's creating a new root ApplicationModule each time I end up with an excessive number of database connections after a very short space of time (the call to Configuration.releaseRootApplicationModule does not seem to be releasing the database connection, even though the application module is released). I also don't like this as it feels like I'm "breaking" the framework by making a direct call to the model layer.
    So the next thing I wanted to try was creating a DataControl (by dragging my CurrentUserView1 on to a jspx page, then deleting it to preserve the bindings) and make a call to that using something like this:
            /**** TODO GET BINDING TO CurrentUserView1 ******/
            OperationBinding operationBinding =
                bindings.getOperationBinding("ExecuteWithParams");
            JUCtrlAttrsBinding vUsername =
                (JUCtrlAttrsBinding)bindings.findNamedObject("v_userName");
            statusCode.setAttribute("v_userName", username);
            Object result = operationBinding.execute();
            if (operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
               /***** TODO Cast this result object in to something useful *****/
                setUser(result)
            }But as you can see I still don't completely understand what I have to do here (and yes I have trawled the various guides and documentation - but I can't work out exactly what applies to me as this isn't a backing bean).
    If any of you Aces out there can give me some pointers it would be MUCH appreciated as I've beat my head against this for a week now!!

    John,
    It's been 2 months since I asked this question and in that time I have tried innumerable ways of getting my application and database pools to behave in such a way that doesn't end up filling my database with unclosed sessions. The situation I'd ideally like to achieve is this:
    Application Modules
    A pool of application modules minimum 5 maximum 150 with a "working set" of about 25 (the jbo.recyclethreshold setting)
    For application modules to timeout if they are inactive for > 120 seconds (so if somebody has left their browser open in the background I don't want them hogging my AMs)
    Database Connections +(I am using a JDBC data source to allow multiple applications to reuse my connection pool settings)+
    A pool of database connections minimum 5 maximum 150
    If a connection is inactive for > 300 seconds for that connection to be closed (i.e. if an AM has been returned to the pool, but is not re-used within 5 minutes then I'd like the connection closed)
    Obviously, for the purposes of testing, I don't want to try and manage 150 browser sessions to see if this setup works, so I have been trying to create a scaled-down version of my requirements:
    Application Modules
    A pool of application modules minimum 1 maximum 5 with a "working set" of 1 (the jbo.recyclethreshold setting)
    For application modules to timeout if they are inactive for > 30 seconds
    Database Connections
    A pool of database connections minimum 1 maximum 5
    If a connection is inactive for > 60 seconds for that connection to be closed
    My problem is that, despite all the API's, the ADF for 4GL guide, forum entries and Steve Muench's guide to AM Pooling I still can't get this relatively simple example to work.
    My bc4j.xcfg file looks like (assume all other settings are as default):
             <jbo.recyclethreshold>1</jbo.recyclethreshold>
             <jbo.ampool.maxavailablesize>5</jbo.ampool.maxavailablesize>
             <jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage>30000</jbo.ampool.maxinactiveage>
             <jbo.ampool.minavailablesize>1</jbo.ampool.minavailablesize>
             <ApplicationName>gpl.model.PreUserLoginModule</ApplicationName>
             <jbo.ampool.monitorsleepinterval>30000</jbo.ampool.monitorsleepinterval>My data-sources.xml file has the following entries for the connection used by that application module (assume all other settings are as default):
      <connection-pool name="jdev-connection-pool-gslportal_at_ppmsdb"
                       disable-server-connection-pooling="false"
                       validate-connection="false" inactivity-timeout="60"
                       max-connections="5" min-connections="1"
                       property-check-interval="30"
                       used-connection-wait-timeout="30">With this configuration I can open a maximum of 5 browsers and each one connects successfully. On opening the 6th I get an exception because no more connections are available (as expected). My problem is that if I wait for 5 minutes I'd expect that
    a) 4 of the inactive application modules should be released (with one left available as per the min setting)
    b) The database connections of the 4 inactive application modules should be released as per the "inactivity" and "used-connection-wait" timeouts on the data-source
    c) I'd now expect the 6th browser to be able to connect because of the "freed up" resources
    From what I can make out none of these things happens. Even if I close the original 5 browsers, the 6th still cannot connect.
    I have noticed that if I set the "time-to-live-timeout" for the datasource then this will close the connection after the given period of time, but regardless of whether or not the connection was in use and in doing so renders the application module held in the pool as useless. (So if any of my original 5 sessions attempt to re-use the application module with the closed database connection, a "Closed Connection" SQLException is raised).
    I do appreciate this topic has been given LOTS of forum discussion already - but I really have done my research and am still none the wiser. Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Dave

  • Calling stored procedures from entity object and application module

    Hello
    I've put in place an EntiyImpl base class containg helper methods to call stored procedures.
    I now need to call stored procedures from the application module.
    Apart from creating an application module base class and duplicating the helper method code is there a way
    to share the helper methods for calling stored procedures between the entity impl and application module impl ?
    Regards
    Paul

    Does the helper code depend on features of a particular entity object instance, beyond its database transaction?
    If so, I'm not sure I see how it could be used from an application module class.
    If not, here's what you do:
    Step 1:
    Parametrize the database transaction--you might even want to. So instead of
    protected myHelperMethod(Object someParam) {
    DBTransaction trans = getDBTransaction();
    change this to
    protected myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    Step 2: make the method public and static--once you parameterize the DBTransaction, you should be able to do this.
    public static myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    Step 3: Remove the method from your EntityImpl base class into a utility class:
    public abstract class PlSqlUtils {
    private PlSqlUtils() {}
    public static myHelperMethod(DBTransaction trans, Object someParam) {
    When you want to call the method from an application module, entity object, or even view object class, call
    PlSqlUtils.myHelperMethod(getDBTransaction(), paramValue);
    Unlike Transaction.executeCommand(), this lets you provide functionality like setting procedure parameter values, retrieving OUT parameter values, etc.
    Hope this helps,
    Avrom

  • Databse connection when an application module is checked out

    Hi,
    I have an application module pool and database connection pool,
    Documentations suggest that, when an application module is released in stateless mode irrespective of the jbo.doconnectionpooling property the connection aquired by the app module will be released.But this is not happening.What could be the reason.Is this a BUG in BC4J!!!!!!!!.
    Also whenever i check out an app module, 2 database connections are getting opened instead of one. What is the strange problem!!!!!!!.
    Can anybody guide me.
    Thanks,
    Dutt..

    BD - I have a hunch that it has more to do with cvs in a multi-user environment ... but cannot test that out right now since the multi-user component of this problem happens to be out of the office until Monday ;-) I'm thinking it's possible that, since we have slightly different paths to the residents in our workspace, we're fighting over configurations upon committing and updating.
    I'll be sure to post steps in recreating this problem very early next week.

  • Sharing application modules

    Hi,
    I have an application (ADF) running on Oracle AS. Lets call it Application A. This application comprises of about 10 projects (modules).
    I am creating a new webservice that uses some of the application modules, view objects and entity objects of Application A. I will be deploying this webservice as a separate application on the same Oracle AS.
    Is there someway for my webservice to use Application A's app modules, view objects and entity objects without physically including them in the webservice ear/war. This will help me keep my code in-sync.
    Thanks.

    Hi Frank,
    We (colleague of Nilesh) unfortunately can't wait for 11g esp. because you can't give a release date.
    The problem we are facing is that we see the same queries hitting the database over and over again. So caching these queries for a 'longer' period of time would save us a lot of round trips to the database.
    The data we want to cache is releasable stable, the data we select is separated from the data we insert. So we can store the data over a longer period of time.
    But as I understand it, there is no solution that would solve such a usecase? (Other then using a different framework/ building a custom solution)

  • Root Application Module

    i understand that we can't extend and substitute the root application module for a page. However, I am not sure how to tell if the AM I am working with is a root AM, actually I am not sure what a root AM is either. I tried extending PsrAM which is under oracle.apps.ap.payments.psr.server. It is the AM that is referred to from PsrPG.xml.
    So how do I tell if this is the root AM?
    Thanks for any help you can give!
    Dennis

    Dennis
    In addition to what chandra mentioned. Your saying that root AM cant be extended is not 100% correct
    i understand that we can't extend and substitute the root application module for a pageWe can extend root AM as well provided that page doesnot have any LOV in it.
    However as a workaround you can create a custom Application Module in Jdev and add it to page with the help of StackLayout Region.
    Thanks

  • Exception while exposing Application Module Methods as Web Service

    Hello Everyone,
    I am working on Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 version and tried to expose one method of application module as web service. To do this, i used "Service Interface" tab of Application module within Jdeveloper and Jdeveloper had generated all interfaces, stubs, code for the Session bean required for web service. I am now trying to "Test Web Service" from the implementation class generated then i am getting this error in Weblogic deployment. Any help/pointers would be highly appreciated.
    I used another installation of Jdeveloper same version at my collegues desktop but getting the same error. Not sure, if this version of Jdeveloper is having issue in exposing application module as web service. I think that database related exception can be ignored as no database call is being made by the application.

  • Programmatically created ViewDefImpl and application module releasing

    Hello!
    What will happen with a programmatically created ViewDefImpl instance after module releasing (for Stateful release mode, I mean if module will do passivation)? How I see it gone away.
    As workaround I'm using a distinct module with Reserved relese mode, but it's no good.

  • TP4 Lov and application module procedure

    Hi!
    I have a little problem. I have a page with a LOV and a Task Flow.
    In the Task Flow i have a table, wich depending the value that users select in the LOV present some data. (Whith where clause and a bind variable).
    This works ok. But when I add to the task Flow a button that invoke a procedure implemented in the application module. The result, is that the LOV doesn´t work. i mean not appear the data to select.
    Any idea?
    Thanks
    Rowan

    Ok my english....
    First what a want to do:
    I´m doing a create,update,insert,remove page, using adf rc. But for doing those, I need to use PL/SQL procedures, not the create, remove.. procedures that jdev gives us in the data control. And as the table has a lot of records i ´ve put in the page a LOV to search the rows that the user want to modify.
    Now how i do that (in short):
    First i "programmed" the LOV. I´ve created a ViewObject for the lov and another view object for the table the second VO has a bind variable and a where clause.
    "Where tabla.cod = :LovParam"
    For passing the value from the LOV to the table i have defined a Task Flow View with input parametre, with a panel collection and inside the table VO. have defined an executeWithParams binding and invokeAction executable.
    I´ve drop the task flow to the .jspx.
    In the .jspx I´ve inserted a LOV component and create a variable executable a inside of this a variable. And then i´ve bind the LOV with the variable.
    Probably here is missing a step, but how i say up this is in short what i have done.
    Finally all this works fine.
    The second step is to add the command button that calls the PL/SQL, for doing this:
    I´ve programmed in the application_module_implementation a function which calls the PL/SQL, I´ve followed the steps that are explained in the adf guide, in chapter 25.5.2 Invoking Stored Procedure with Only IN Arguments.
    And then i´ve dropped the function from data control to statusbar facet of the Data Collection.
    The result is that when the button is on panel collection, the LOV does´t work. And if remove the button the LOV works. This haven´t any sense for me.
    I have made more test and, if instead of the panel collection I use a form layout the LOV works but the button gives me the next error "Not supported function".
    I know that this is another think. and now i´m trying to solve this one.
    I hope now you have material to work with. I think that it´s strange what happens with the collection panel. And about the function sure that i´m doing something wrong.
    Thanks, for you interest
