Discoverer Integration

How can discoverer application and workbooks be integrated with Portal? Currently designing for Data Warehouse project with webbased front end.

Try posting this in the Discoverer forum. You may be able to get information about APIs that will enable this.
The PDK does not currently include built-in integration with Discoverer (that is not to say it not possible using the JPDK in conjunction with Discoverer APIs).
If Discoverer has Java APIs to access content, then it should be relatively straightforward to use those APIs with the JPDK to publish Discoverer content.

We're trying to integrate Discoverer with Portal unsuccessfully.
We made many things in accordance with oracle's documentation until add discoverer portlets (worksheet and list of workbooks) in a test page.
In view mode, the worksheet portlet shows the error:
"The portlet has not been defined. The publisher must define the portlet by clicking on Edit Defaults for the portlet on the edit mode of this page. Please contact the publisher of this page."
We think we have to edit properties before. Is this? Anyway edit worksheet portlet crashes between step 1 and 2. The error is: "The listener returned the following Message: 500 Internal Server Error".
We have a public conection created in EM and a discoverer application which can be viewed using plus or viewer.

    Hi there,
Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
    1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
    2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
    3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
    Hope this helps

  • Discoverer integration with EBS R12 !!!

    Hello Sir,
I need help to install/integrate Discoverer with R12.
Actually, our clients are using Discoverer 4i in current EBS 11.5.10.2 in production. We have just upgraded EBS in TEST environment from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.3.
I had suggested client that Discoverer 4i is actually de-supported and they need to upgrade Discoverer version to minimum 10.1.2.3 or higher to integrate it with R12.1.3.
Now, client also have requirement for Discoverer to be certified with MS Excel 2010 format. So I have suggested to upgrade Discoverer version to minimum 11.1.1.4.
Latest certified Discoverer version is 11.1.1.7.0 as per note Using Discoverer 11.1.1 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Doc ID 1074326.1)
    1) Can you please provide your opinion and any documentation which I can follow to install/integrate Discoverer with R12 ?
    2) Do I need to first install separate 10gAS for installing Discoverer 10.1.2.3 or Fusion middleware home for installing Discoverer 11g ? If yes, where can I find doc for this installation ?
    3) Since 10g support has ended July 2013, where can I get media for installing 10gAS ?
    4) Is there any additional licences required for using either Discoverer 10g or Discoverer 11g ?

    1) Can you please provide your opinion and any documentation which I can follow to install/integrate Discoverer with R12 ?

  • Discoverer Integration with BI Publisher now available

Key benefits of integration of BI Publisher with Discoverer:
    - Create highly formatted reports based on your Discoverer worksheets (Relational and OLAP)
    - Schedule and Distribute these reports in a variety of formats (e.g. HTML, PDF) via email
On the BI Publisher side, this integration requires BI EE 10.1.3.3 or BI Publisher standalone 10.1.3.3:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101320bi.html
There is documentation about this integration in the New Features guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/discointeg.htm#BABIDJBC
On the Discoverer side, you will also need to request a Discoverer one-off patch (password protected) from Oracle Support that adds the web services component to your Discoverer system – the patch is number 9334029. You will need to install this on top of a 10.1.2.2 Discoverer install that has been configured to use Oracle Internet Directory. Detailed configuration instructions are available in the one-off patch documentation.

Did anyone install this patch and make the integration with BIP work?
I installed the patch (on linux) using opatch apply as indicated in the patch README and opatch says that patch applied successfully. Now if I try to test the web service using http://host:port/discoverer/wsi as mentioned on page 11-2 of OBI New Features guide 10.1.3.3, I get a bunch of java errors like

  • Discoverer integration and bursting

    Hi all,
I've installed various patch for discoverer/publisher integration, now i can create report from publisher with discoverer worksheet, the question is:
can i use bursting features when i use Oracle Discoverer for a dataset?
If i go in Bursting section i can check "enable bursting" and i can choose the split e delivery parameter but i don't know how create query for bursting.
    Thank you

I've open a tar and the oracle response is
"Unfortunately it is not possible burst data using a web repository such as disco"

  • Customozing Oracle Discoverer Security

    Hi,
Please help me in following scenario. I am having security service as web service which maintain all tokens about users. When any user from a system try to connect to disoverer it should use this token id and send to discoverer. And the Discoverer should talk to this security service using this token id. After authenticating with security service it should allow that user to view reports.
Could you please let me know how this is possible? Can I make some customization in Discoverer so that it should talk to security web service?

    Hi,
I am not aware of any complete document covering eBS security. You can look at John Abel's book Oracle E-Busines Suite Security which covers many aspects including some on Discoverer.
Discoverer integration with eBS menus is covered in the Metalink notes 471303.1 and 278095.1. Connection security is covered in the Discoverer documentation (http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13918_03/apps.htm#i1006413).
Different apps modules use different mechanism for data security. These are covered in various metalink notes, for example note 290291.1 covers GL security.

  • Re-scheduling workbooks from Discoverer Admin

    Hi All,
We have Discoverer integrated with Oracle Applications.
When logging into Discoverer Admin as EUL owner, it is possible to re-schedule workbooks scheduled by other users by navigating to 'Tools->Manage Scheduled Workbooks...' and clicking on the 'Edit' button for a workbook. It allows to change date/time of when the report should be executed and successfully updates the Discoverer meta-data tables in the EUL. However, the dbms job associated with the workbook is not re-scheduled, so the report is executed at the original time.
I am not very familiar with the Discoverer, but my feeling is that it is not properly configured in our installation. Any advise on how to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Denis

    Hi,
You can move the workbooks by using a Discoverer export/import from Administrator.

  • Transfer data from Express to Discoverer 3.1

OLAP Forum is selected due to pg 464 of http://docs.oracle.com/pdf/A59962_01.pdf
Information Description: pg 436 of http://docs.oracle.com/pdf/A59962_01.pdf
    Appendix D New Features
    Import from Discoverer Files
    Overview
You can now import data that has been exported from a Discoverer session.
This feature, used in conjunction with the Discoverer integration provided
in Oracle Express Objects 2.2, allows you to transfer data between Express
and Discoverer, in either direction. This feature is only available with
    Discoverer 3.1.
If the manual provides ",allows you to transfer data between Express and Discoverer, in either direction." then it implies that you can export data both ways (i.e. "in either direction")
    Does anyone have old and applicable references to material that shows how to transfer data from Express to Discoverer 3.1;
instead of already known procedures on how to Export Data from Discoverer to Express Analyzer ?

    HI Anka,
You would need to do the following steps:
    1. Create a transfer profile, specifying the key figure which contains the forecast to be released to R/3.
    2. Specify the R/3 version and the active version in the transfer profile
    3. Create an activity and attach the transfer profile in that activity
    3. Product/Location combinations have to be CIFed to APO to enable demand release to R/3
    4. In addtion, you need to maintain a distribution definition at the location for which you are releasing the forecast. In distribution definition specify "planned independent requirements" for that particular location
    5. Create a background job using the defined activity.
Let me know if you need any additional information.
    Regards,
    Kedar

  • Is there any other way to  limit the data a user can see

    We are using Discoverer 10.2.xxx
We are running it against an Oracle applications database but we do not have Discoverer integrated with the apps. I have created database users for discoverer and granted access to the data at the db level.
We have about 40 salesreps and we only want each rep to see their own data. We have a high turn over with the reps
For now, I have created the row level security in that folder in my eul. If the username = XXXX then Salesrep = XXXXX
    OR
If username = YYYY then DSM = YYYY
etc.. This goes on for about 40 users We have 3 levels of "users" - Salesrep, DSM or RSM (District or Region sales manager)
These users are setup in my apps and I can write a database procedure to select their salesrep name based on their username.
Is there any other way to limit the data that the salesreps can see ?
Possibly with a stored procedure some way?
    Thanks
    Angie

At a previous client's, I had created a system not too unlike what you're describing.
Basically, I created an Oracle table that stored information concerning the salesperson as in Oracle Apps the data was not reliable for what they were doing (ie: with adding Apps modules, sometimes salesperson data was there, but with say, CRM, it was in another place, etc.).
So, since this table was going to be used for driving everything about a salesperson (commissions, who they report to, when they started, territory, when / if they moved territories and/or manager, etc, etc.) I put lots of good stuff in it that would make life easier for them.
The end user in charge of all this had was given a Form to add, edit, delete all this good stuff and they were happy.
When it came time for security, it worked like a charm in that I used the concept of the BIS views where a user has an apps id associated to them and all data was filtered by that id. All I really had to do was to create this view that simply filtered data to that user's id. Then whenever I had a Discoverer report for salespeople, managers, etc. I just made sure the folder used had a join to this filtering view and I chose an item from the filtering view and all worked fine. All Discoverer reports only returned row level information for the salesperson who ran it.
Likewise, the same Oracle table was queried by another security view that only brought back the same IDs for the salespeople associated to each manager. When this simple view was joined to any sales Discoverer folder (and used in Disco), it limited all data to the salespeople the manager was responsible for.
Obviously this is just an overview and would take pages to explain, but essentially, if you can associate some kind of unique ID to each salesperson (I used the one returned in BIS views when someone logs into Apps, but you could just assign a different in your case), then you can create a view that filters to that id. Then when that view is brought into the EUL and joined to any other folder in the sales area (and you choose a column from the security view), you'll have what you're referring to - row level security for all salespeople and managers.
When it works - it sure does look impressive.

  • Availability of 10.1.3.2 for Solaris?

Hi, does anyone have an idea of when BI EE 10.1.3.2 will be released on Solaris? It feel like the Windows / Linux versions have been out for over a month or so.
    Thx,
    Scott

Sure! Some that come to mind are:
    1. Completely new Office Add-in for Excel and PowerPoint with a ton of new and franky, very, very cool features.
    2. BI Publisher and Discoverer integration that allows highly formatted reports to be created using BI Publisher that go against Discoverer worksheets, both relational and OLAP.
    3. Multi-select search in BI EE.
    4. Parameterized Dashboard URLs.
    5. Improved template builder in BI Publisher.
    6. Export to PowerPoint support in BI Publisher as well as BI EE Dashboards.
    7. New Flash template support.
    8. Support for some new data sources in the BI Server.
    9. And some more that escape my mind at this point...

  • Custom Logo in Plus 10.1.2 Worksheet Title

We can add a custom logo to a worksheet title using Discoverer Desktop.
However, this logo is NOT visible in Plus and there is no option to add a new logo to a workbook title.
Anyone know how we can add a custom logo to the workbook title in Plus???
    Thanks

I believe you need to modify the UIX templates to add the logo. There are a few downsides to this, though. The logo will appear on the screen, but will not get printed. Modifications to the templates will show up on all reports, so if marketing wanted one logo, and sales wanted another, they would have to settle on one template.
One thing worth looking into would be BI Publisher. It will allow logos to be printed, and is now integrated with disco. Check this link for more info:
