Discoverer Plus for OLAP

Hi....
Our company had installed Oracle Application Server 10g and using Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.48.18) and also creating the EUL as the data storage/mapping for our workbooks/reports.
Our company has a plan to use Discoverer Plus for OLAP and already installed the discoverer catalog.
How to create a connection using option "Connect To" OracleBI Discoverer for OLAP ?
What is the diffrence between Discoverer Catalog and Analytic Workspace?
What tools that we must use to create data for OLAP (to create some dimensions, measures etc)?
Any Help will be appreciated
Thanks,
Handoko

Hi Handoko,
You can establish a connection from Discoverer Plus for OLAP, by specifying the database connect information in the form of HOST:PORT:SID (e.g MyServer.com:1521:orcl10g).
The Discoverer OLAP catalog is used to store end-user reports and is installed and maintained using Application Server Control console. It allows you to install the catalog and authorize users to store reports in the catalog. The Analytic Workspace Manager is used to define your multi-dimensional model and load the data from source tables.
Mark Rittman provides some indepth documentation, have a look at the link below :

  • Has Discoverer Plus for OLAP any future?

    Has Discoverer Plus for OLAP any future?
    It only one desktop product for Oracle OLAP, but no evolution last time and require more functionality.
    anybody tell about?

    The patch number for 10.1.2.3 is 5983622.
    Currently it is available only for Win32 and Solaris. I'm told that it will be available on other ports sometime in April.
    Also a word of warning - 10.1.2.3 does not contain the fixes released for 10.1.2.2 in CP4, CP5 and CP6. There will be a one-off patch released shortly for 10.1.2.3 containing these fixes.

  • Use short label in disco PLUS for OLAP report

    Hi All,
    I've noticed in the spreadsheet add-in you can decide under "query options" whether to use the Long or Short Description when displaying a dimension member. How do you do the same in discoverer PLUS for OLAP ? I cant find it anwhere.
    Cheers,

    Hi Brandonm,
    You currently do not have this option in Plus to have use the Short, Long labels.
    I think this is planned for a future version, maybe in 11 we will have this.

  • Installing BI Discoverer Plus for multidimensional OLAP ?

    Hi there,
    it seems I really need to ask for help after getting lost in the forest that Oracle Software is. I hope my question is not too bothersome to people on this forum. So here's the situation:
    I have an Oracle 11g database on a CentoOS server, with OLAP option. I have created a simple star schema from my data and an analytical worksheet (although not without pain, there's another thread about that). Now I wish to access the OLAP data through a tool on my Windows XP workstation and be able to manipulate the data to create reports. My goal is to create a small demo to help convincing our client that OLAP reports is the way to go to play with their data, create custom reports, etc. In fact what I'd like to do is to play with the OLAP model like I used to a few years ago when I was using Business Objects as as client, I think they called it Universe Management or something. The thing is you get your model elements (measures, levels, attributes, etc) as icons in a palette and you can drag&drop them on a worksheet to dynamically create reports, crosstabs, etc. That was very nice and accessible to almost any user.
    Now my question: what piece of Oracle software should I install on each machine to be able to do that ? I tried with Oracle Client BI Tools on XP but this seems to only include Discoverer "classic" or whatever, that only manipulates relational data. I think I need Discoverer "plus", but where is it located ? This is what I found on the website: "OracleBI Discoverer can be installed from the Oracle Business Intelligence CD". Well ok, but which CD ? There seems to be several of them, like Oracle BI EE, Oracle BI SE, Oracle BI SE One, Oracle BI Tools, etc. Additionaly do I really need to install a full-blown Application Server on the CentOS system to access Discoverer Plus ? This frightens me a bit, you know, I'm aiming for a small demo with two or three tables, I'd be thankful not to have to spend a whole week installing a web infrastrucutre for that.
    Well this all looks somewhat confusing, so I thought I'd be better off asking those who know, hence my post. Again I hope this doesn't sound to bothersome.
    Thanks for your help!
    Christian

    Hi Gareth and all,
    in fact I have installed the "Oracle BI Tools" for windows (as_windows_x86_bi_tools_101202.zip) which give me access to
    - Oracle Discoverer Administrator
    - Oracle Discoverer Desktop
    However according to the [Discoverer documentation|http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13917_03/1intro.htm] these are not the tools I'm looking for; as it says : "if you want to create new worksheets and analyze data from both relational and multi-dimensional data sources across the Web, you will use Discoverer Plus". As it seems, Discoverer Desktop only accesses relational data through an EUL, I really would like to play with my OLAP cube, because I'm intending to create a demo of what will eventually be a much larger OLAP system.
    So I'm still desperately looking for Discoverer "Plus". From the page you indicate I had already installed not the full AS but the "Business Intelligence" CD, which is supposed to include Discoverer (as indicated in the 'Included" list). I did a "complete" install, however I'm still unable to locate anything ressembling Discoverer. I have Publisher, Dashboard, Delivers, Marketing, Disconnected Analytics... There's Answers that might be similar to Discoverer, but it looks like a whole different beast and much more demanding (like I'm not even able to figure out how to define a new data source). Well I was hoping to be able to view my tiny cube in a few clicks and "Discoverer Plus OLAP" looked like the right tool for that.
    So the next step might be to install the full AS, however it'll take the whole week-end to merely download the 4 CDs. And will it include Discoverer PLus in the end, or am I getting to come back empty-handed again ? Well this is all getting a bit discouraging, please if anyone here knows a convenient way to end up graphically manipulating an OLAP cube and creating simple reports from it please advise ! :-)
    Anyway thanks all for your support,
    Chris

  • Customising Discover plus for olap UI

    Hi all,
    I'm using Discover Plus with an OLAP data source and would like to customise the interface such that:
    - The Query Pane window is switched on by default
    - When creating a new report the "crosstab" radio button is highlighted by default (usually it's the crosstab and graph)
    I realise that these are easy to change in the user interface itself, but I'd like to set their initial status when Discoverer starts - we're going to be rolling this out to around 500 users soon and these small changes will make life easier for everyone.
    I suspect the answer lies in modifying one of the middle tier files, but having looked in pref.txt I can find nothing which relates to my requirements.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark...

    Look for it in:
    http://acidweb.ts.infn.it/oradoc/ias902/bi.902/a95458/conf_fil.htm#635592
    There's a list of Discoverer configuration files. Hope this helps.

  • Discoverer BI for OLAP "read-only" privilege problem

    Hello!
    I set the user privilege to "read-only" but still it allows me to save and edit the report within the user. I'm expecting to read only the report and not to modify it.
    Please let me do know if you have a solution for this.
    Grace

    I think Shared is only for viewing. Try giving full control on main folder( folder which has old reports) in users to the new user.

  • Discoverer Plus desktop

    I want to download Discoverer Plus to work with Oracle 10g but I can not find it on the Oracle website - what is the url to download Oracle Discoverer PLus client.
    Ive built cubes and they work fine with AWM ( i can see the data etc ) but do not work with 10iAS Discoverer Plus so hopign they work with Discoverer PLus client.

    Which 10g AS version is this? Discoverer Plus is not downloadable in that sense. You install and run Plus as an applet from Oracle AS instance (accessed via url e.g. http://server:port/discoverer/plus).
    Maybe you are looking for Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer (Plus) for OLAP, which is part of the AS 10.1.2 suite. (do you have an older "10g" version?)
    DS 10.1.2 downloads has a BI Tools CD, including Discoverer Desktop Edition (this is what the "thick" client is called). dont know if it handles cubes. Desktop also comes in a standalone install, if you dont need the whole dev tools suite.

    Trying to make it readable... Didn't retain line breaks. Now it does.<br><br>

    Discoverer for OLAP should see all measures and dimensions that you have access to. You never need to explicitly attach an AW.
    You are correct in thinking that the AW did get attached if you get to a point in the Workbook Wizard where data is displayed. The error messages are not meaningful to mean. I would guess that it is the result of some sort of metadata error. You might see if AW 'A' is causing any sort of confict by revoking SELECT on AW$A (you'll need to do this as a different user than the owner of the AW) an then attempting to view AW 'B'.

  • How to open a defult workbook from Discoverer Plus

    Hi all,
    Is it possible in Discoverer Plus for a user to open a pre defined worksheet in a workbook when he logs in without having to select the workbook and then select the worksheet?
    Please advise how to achive this.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you all.
    Yjk

    Hi Yjk
    This is possible but you will have to alter the URL call to do it and add the workbook name to the end of the URL.
    You can use either the names of workbooks and worksheet or unique IDs of workbooks and worksheets. Using unique IDs is easier and helps avoid encoding problems with long names. Unique IDs are language independent. The following are the URL parameters to use while working with workbooks and worksheets.
    Discoverer Plus Relational:
    Workbooks:
    opendbid=<workbook ID>
    opendbname=<workbook name>
    Worksheets:
    sheetid=<worksheet ID>
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer Viewer:
    Workbook:
    wbk=<workbook ID>
    wb=<workbook name>
    Worksheet:
    wsk=<worksheet ID>
    ws=<worksheet name>
    Discoverer OLAP:
    Workbooks:
    workbookname=<workbookname>
    Worksheets:
    sheet=<worksheet name>
    Note: Discoverer Plus OLAP uses only workbook and worksheet names.
    Examples below:
    How to Find the Unique IDs of Workbooks and Worksheets
    To find the unique ID of a workbook, use thie workflow:
    1. Launch the Open Workbook from Database wizard
    2. Right-click the workbook name
    3. Select Properties.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the workbook.
    Alternatively, when the workbook is open, select File | Workbook Properties.
    To find the unique ID of a worksheet, use this workflow:
    1. With the worksheet open, select Edit | Worksheet Properties
    2. The Worksheet Properties dialog box opens.
    3. Click the General tab.
    The value of the Identifier field indicates the unique ID of the worksheet.
    The following URL starts Discoverer Viewer and opens a worksheet with the unique ID "156", which is present in the workbook whose unique ID is "MONTHLY_SALES". The connection ID used is "cf_a101".
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/viewer?cn=cf_a101&wbk=MONTHLY_SALES&wsk=156
    If the connection that is used here is a private connection, the user will be prompted for the password.
    In Plus, the same command is:
    http://<machine.domain>:<port>/discoverer/plus?cn=cf_a101&opendbname=MONTHLY_SALES&sheet=156
    Does this help?
    Regards
    Michael

  • Discoverer report - Output from Discoverer plus is not the same as Discoverer desktop

    As a part of Upgrade project we are migrating the discoverer reports from 11i (11.5.10.2) to R12 (12.1.3) .After migrating to R12, for a custom discoverer report the output given by discoverer desktop is correct (24 rows for a scenario). But the report output from Discoverer plus does not show the credit transactions (2 rows). The output from Discoverer plus shows only 22 rows (24 - 2), which is incorrect. The query is the same in Discoverer desktop and Discoverer plus.
    Please let me know why these transactions that are appearing when the report is run from discoverer desktop are not appearing in discoverer plus. Is there any setup in discoverer plus for this?
    Regards,
    Brajesh

    Pretty hard to answer a question like this.  Best bet would be to copy the existing discoverer plus book and start removing conditions, fields, etc until those two rows from desktop show up and see if you can work it out.

  • Discoverer Plus 10gR2 not show data when the script of view have package

    Hi my friends.
    I have a problem with discoverer plus, I don't know is a problem or I'm doing something wrong.
    I have a four views, the views containg in the SELECT stament and WHERE clause packages, example:
    SELECT d.price,
    d.total,
    d.min,
    d.mx,
    TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'q') quarter,
    d.fid,
    k_xdcd_qry.f_xdc_obt_price (d.prod, d.id) --> package
    k_xpxpd_qry.f_xpeds_salary_ca_u (
    d.prod,
    d.id) xp --> package
    FROM px_prices_proc c,
    xp_sla_max d,
    xmp_sla_puc b
    WHERE a.prod = b.prod
    AND a.id = b.id
    AND a.prod = k_xps_tools.f_obt_prod --> package
    When I used the views on discoverer plus for construct the report, when execute the query not show data.
    Appreciate it if you could help or tell me I'm doing wrong or does not support Discoverer Plus package execution.

    Hi Tux,
    This appears to be a grant issue. Apparently, you have granted execute with respect to this package to the EUL owner or the view would not have compiled. If you have not given EUL owner the grant option, I would recommend doing this as well.
    This appears to be an Oracle APPS EUL (tell me if I am wrong). If this is the case, it goes without saying that APPS will need to be granted the execute privilege.
    Also, by default, a stored package executes with the privileges of its owner. If your custom package was designed this way, are the objects which it references received the appropriate grant? I assume you tested this, but I am concerned that the line, a.prod = k_xps_tools.f_obt_prod, in the where clause could be resulting in the Null set being returned.

  • Minimizing Discoverer Plus causes it to lock up

    We have a user who complains that when he minimizes Discoverer Plus for a long period of time and then tried to maximize it, it locks up and he has to do a ctl-alt_del. Has anyone ever encountered this before?

    Hi puppethead
    That sounds feasible to me. I'll try it on my own machine and post the results shortly.
    Best wishes
    Michael
    I completed my test and it was inconclusive as Discoverer did not lock up. I correctly got the message saying that Discoverer was about to time out, although I ignored it as if I wasn't there. About a minute later I got the message that Discoverer had timed out and that message remained in the browser window no matter how long I ignored it. As soon as I clicked on the minimized browser Discoverer told me it had timed out and asked me to click the OK button.
    Therefore, I'm not convinced that the timeout is the cause of Discoverer locking up. At least not for 10.1.2.2 anyhow which is what I'm using.
    Best wishes
