I have a tabnavigator with 2 NavigatorContents as below

Now my requirement is, when I click on tab1button, it should change
the focus to tab2 navigatorcontent and vice versa, i.e clicking on
tab2button should change the focus to tab1 naigatorcontent.
If I place the buttons directly instead of include components, it
works using main.selectedIndex=1 on button click action, but my real-
time project has a much bigger code which I can't place.
I am new to flex and would be thankful if anyone can help me here.

Update:<br>Extension did not work for me, and the reason is the same as someone previously reported in [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/compatibility/reporter/[email protected] Compatibility Reporter]. -- "you can move a tab to a new window, but not move a tab into a already opened window as before"
Was hoping it would work once Firefox 4.0 updated to 5.0 (via Help > About Firefox) , but no such luck, and "Moving a Tab to a New Window" is builtin so the extension does absolutely nothing.

Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event. Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want. However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to.

How can I create a second sheet within a tab?

How can I create a second sheet within a tab? I have tried to add another table but it shows up on top of the existing table. I want to have two sheets or tables within one tab so I can further sort and categorize within a section. Is this possible? Thanks for all the help!

You can insert a new table on the View Responses Tab with
Insert > Table
You can also insert a new sheet with a new table with
Insert > Sheet
You can drag and drop the table if it does overlap with another table. Just select the table you want to move and drag the top-left corner of the table to move it.

Spry Panels: How to link to a tab within a tab?

hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.
I can set up a link to a main tab on a page of my website by just replacing '/index.html' with '/?tab=x' (with x being a number).
Now within those tabs there are another set of tabs that I would also like to be able to link to, does anyone have any information on this?

Tab canvas within a tab canvas? Can it be done?

I am working in forms 10g. A customer has given me a mock up that contains a tab canvas within a tab on another tab canvas. Is this even possible? If so, can you outline the steps to do so please?

It is possible, but you cannot create tab-canvas 2 on top of tab canvas 1. Create both tab-canvases on top of the content canvas, the at runtime use SHOW_VIEW and HIDE_VIEW to show or hide the second tab-canvas as needed.

Dispatching an event from a PDF to AIR?

I would like to put a button in a PDF using Acrobat, that,
when clicked, dispatches an event that can be picked up by my
displaying AIR application. The PDF is being displayed in AIR using
HTMLLoader in an HTML object.

This is how you would do this in a class and it should work
just as well if coded directly onto a frame. However, to make this
more versatile I would place it in a class with a public function,
for example, name throwEvent(). This public method would then
execute the above code and could be called from any frame. You
could even add another item to the evt object that would contain
the frame the executed the event.

Are sub events within events possible?

I briefly searched and did not find anyone asking the exact same question.
I am wondering if there is a way to make sub-events within events. I am not a fan of using the folders very much, and it seems like this should be possible in events, it fits the whole concept of "events"
For example:
Main Event: California Trip
SubEvent: Disneyland
SubEvent: Beach
SubEvent: Winery
Basically, I love using events, but I don't want an event with 500 pictures in it covering a whole week trip. On the other hand, things get extremely cluttered if you have 7 individual events on your main event page for one trip. I have 300 events, and lots of those are trips broken into 5-10 events.
If this is not possible, I sure hope someone in software development is thinking about it... : )

Yes it is possible to make folders within other folders. Select a Folder then go File -> New Folder or drag a folder to another one.

I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 25k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
Keywording takes time to set up, there's no doubt about it. I use Keyword Manager as it's much more powerful than the inbuilt system, and adds the possibility of nested keywords. So, for instance, if I add John to a photo it also adds 'Family'. Now I can add many keywords to a pic quickly.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

Dispatching an event from a command

Hi,
In one for my commands in the Cairngorm based application I'm working on I need to dispatch a event to amend the view. In my command I'm amending some value objects in a ArrayCollection, which is the data source for a List component in my view. Once I completed my changes to these value objects I'd like to dispatch a event to resort the ArrayCollection and update my view to the new order.
What is the best approach for dispatching an event in the command?

Great question - I'm currently sorting out how to do this myself. I'm new to Cairngorm but have a decent amount of experience with Flex. Here are my thoughts:
Cairngorm promotes decoupling of the data model and front controller/commands from the view - which is appropriate for an MVC framework. Data binding supports this seperation (to an extent) and keeps the view up to date with the model in 'real time'. Data binding does not however provide an intuitive mechanism for reacting to cairngorm event results. So here a few solutions I've been tossing around:
1. Rely on Built in Flex events such as the datagrid's dataChange event to trigger a reaction.
2. Create view state variables in the model that, when changed through the front controller / commands, dispatch custom events from within their VO's / setters / ect.
3. Dispatch custom events directly from front controller / commands.
4. Create custom (or override existing) item renderers that self-transition / tween when changed as a result of data binding.
I'm sure there are other ways to do what we want, but I'm out of ideas. Which approach to take very well depends on how strongly you'd like to adhere to the MVC concept. Commands that dispatch generic events as their messages may or may not be acceptable to you - but they provide a straitforward way to trigger view related reactions without relying on data binding events. I'd be interested to know if Cairngorm 3 will address this challenge...

event from a Movieclip?, I tried to dispatch an event from a class
and all ran ok. But now, if I have a Movieclip on my scenario and I
want that when it arrive to "x" frame it dispatch an event that

Dispatch an Event at HeaderRenderer

Hi all!
I have a HeaderRenderer which has a checkbox and a button. The checkbox it is replaced by an image when teh updatedisplaylist event is dispatched, so far this work fine. Even though when I add a couple of headerrenderers to a couple of datagrid columns. These new headerrenderers have a combobox and a label, the column with the 1st headerrenderer stops refreshing itself... but whe you click or move the sidescroll bar of the datagrid the header refresh itself and shows the image. What am I doing wrong with the other headerrenderers or how can I listen and fire an event within a headerrenderer to update the display?. Thanks in advance.

I've created a custom class that posts to a web page to authorize a user. How can I listen for an event within the custom class?
This is my code within my main class.

You can fire an event using the dispatchEvent() function.
In your main class you assign a listener for the event the CustomClass dispatches after it exists.

Dispatching Custom Event

Hello everybody,
Task: I want to enter a message in input text field and
write it in the dynamic using a custom event dispatching.
Solution: I have 2 textfields on the stage.
One textfield is an input text field the other is a dynamic
text field which will server just to display text.

Problem: Somehow it doesn't work. I actually made it work by
making a listener the same object that dispatches the event. But I
want to understand why it doesn't works the way I showed above. I
browsed a lot of forums and found that all the people use to listen
by the same object that is dispatching. I think it's like talking
with yourself isn't it?

your event is dispatched within UserInput scope and MsgBoard
is not within UserInput scope so it's not going to receive that
event. ie, a UserInput instance is not accessible to MsgBoard.
you may have a basic misunderstanding: events that are
dispatched are not like radio signals that are transmitted and
anyone with a listener (radio) can hear them.
when you dispatch an event using actionscript, it is
dispatched by an object (or sometimes by a class) and that event
can only be detected by the dispatching object (or class).

Dispatching Custom Events Help

Hello Everyone,
I am just learning how to handle custom events, and after spending couple of days tring to understand the process, I am unable to get it going. What I am trying to do is to write a Two Button (component/swf). So when I need to utilize this component in other projects, I can simply load the the swf and be able to fire the buttons.
I have two button objects on the stage, and I would like these two button object to fire custom events when the parent component is loaded as swf in other projects. Perhaps, I am going all wrong about what I am tring to accomplish here, I would highly appreciate your help.
After some research, I concluded that I will need to employ Custom Event(s) going for my component. I spent hours on google and have not been able to get it working.

I appreciate your help. Do I have this right? So I can build a navigation component with two links:
LINK1 | LINK2
then I load this navigation component/swf into another project and when I click on either of the links, it will dispatch a CUSTOM EVENT and when the event is dispatched, lets say I have a function (sayHello) listening for that particular event and when the CUSTOM EVENT is dispatched when one of the navigation component's link is clicked the (sayHello()) function would fire itself.
Can this be done? Am I on the right track?
I have been at it for couple of days now, I am able to dispatch the event but don't know how to have a function listen for the events. I would highly appreciate it if you can have look at my code.

Can you move events from one drive to another easily?

I've just bought an external firewire drive to dedicate to my Sony HD camcorder material.
I've only imported 30 mins or so of stuff onto the Mac's internal drive with iMovie '08, and would like to know if anyone's managed to easily copy 'events' from one drive to another to merge/split content.
Is it just a case of copying event folders from the iMovie Events folder to the external drive, but if so do you have to specify a particular path?
Similarly, can you just move the individual 'Projects' or archive to DVD etc as they will invariably take up lots of space for longer footage? Does the projects file just hold references to the assembled clips, in which case moving events would scupper things as I seem to have several movie files in there already though these may just be things I uploaded to .Mac to test out.
This may all be a bit of trial and error. Hopefully clips are only references unlike the pretty huge but self-contained iMovie 6 HD project packages. This also raises issues about how to easily backup all your 'events'.

Observation:
Just imported 15mins of video from the Sony.
When you click import you are asked which drive to save to.
As well as the Mac's internal drive, all my attached USB drives which are formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled) appear as targets to save to as well as teh Firewire drive.
I selected the Firewire drive and don't recall an option to create a sub-folder. After import a new top level folder of iMovie Events was created, but no others.
Presumably iMovie Projects/Shared folders only exist on the boot drive.
I'm assuming that this structure will allow you to share movie Events between Macs using external drives.
Again, an assumption but I suspect iMovie scans all available suitable hard drives and checks what content is available in top level iMovie Events folders for non-boot drives as well as this folder in the user's Movies folder.
Rambling observations over for now.
